  • DISCLAIMERS:
    (1) Presented results do not happen overnight. It takes months to see effects of kalkwasser on your system, so be patient!
    (2) HTA does not recommend running a 8.5 average on Ph. We highly recommend trying on run a 8.3 average. 8.1 - 8.2 is totally fine as well and your corals will thank you!
    (3) Keep an eye on. your CALCIUM, it will slowly rise through kalkwasser dosing. When it gets too high, take kalkwasser dosing offline for a few days, until your Calcium falls back to natural levels. Substitute with a two-part alkalinity buffer to keep your alkalinity stable during that period.

    Seeing this tank in person inspired me to start dosing kalkwasser on my system! Thank you for doing a video on how you do this.

    One safety tip to add on to Kenny's great explanation, you can add the kalk powder to the full water amount to prevent breathing caustic dust and splashing it into your eyes.
    Kalk is cheap and so much more reliable now with dosing pumps. Having one single additive helps both newer and experienced reefers alike reduce the complexity of the hobby!

    High tide I also tried to achieve your method in my own methodology but my alkalinity always jumps up to 12 dkh before I have to stop the process, I run a calcium reactor and adjusting the reactor in conjunction to doseing the kale proves difficult because a reactor is basically a set and foreget piece of equipment so I’m open to suggestions on the ph issue as well, two part might be a bit more fore giving In adjustments but I’m still trying to figure it out. Great video by the way 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼

      Yes it’s a balancing act that takes time to dial in. Unfortunately there is no “recipe” as every system is different.

    Would you dose kalkwasser alongside an all in one product like tropic Marin all for reef?
    Also, if my BRS kalkwasser bag hasn’t been sealed properly for months, is the contents now junk?

    • @hightideaquaticsoak
      @hightideaquaticsoak  5 місяців тому +1

      Ya can dose both, just need to test to figure out proper dosage, just be careful. I dose kalk and alkalinity but I test often. I dose based on alk consumption but you need to keep an eye on calcium as it will rise. Months of an open bag of kalk powder will definitely loose potency. Also be careful with brands of kalk that have the potential for impurities. That’s why I dose with Captive8, zero impurities.

    Hello sir, just bought the aquavitro doser as well. How were you able to figure out that it doses every 7mins? I would like to figure that out as well. I’m going to dose at night over a 12 hour period dosing only 200ml . How do I figure out when it doses?

    • @hightideaquaticsoak
      @hightideaquaticsoak  2 місяці тому

      You can set it to dose 25 times, 50 times, all the way up to 200 times a night!

    Hi can you help I want to dose 3.5 lites per 12 hrs .( evaporation 3-5 to 4 ) I was thinking of dosing 6ml per minute . 6 x 60sec =360 p/hr x 12hr =4320ml x 7 days = 30,240 ( just over 30 ltes ) can you see this being a problem 🤷🏻‍♂️as I haven’t got ph controller.👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿😀

    How often do you remove the slurry buildup

      When your bin runs empty you can actually just add RO and stir in the leftover sediment. It will dissolve and then just keep adding more and stirring until you reach max saturation of 12.5ph

    Thinking of switching from all for reef to kalkwasser in a mainly lps and softie tank. Can i still use my ato and dose only a small amounts at night only?

    • @hightideaquaticsoak
      @hightideaquaticsoak  5 місяців тому

      Your ato will kick on whenever it wants due to evap. So you can’t control it like a dosing pump. You will also need to clean your pump out more often from the kalk. Dosers are best if you want precise control.

    Do I need kalkwasser on a 13 gallon soft coral tank?

    • @hightideaquaticsoak
      @hightideaquaticsoak  8 місяців тому +1

      It’s not necessary at all, the ph benefit could help the corals, but your probably fine without it, just keep up on water changes, 10% on a 13 gallon tank once a week is quick and easy. You can dose trace elements for them, I use captive8 Isol8-mt. We have it at the store. Works great for my softie tank at home.

  • @joshp3779

    I currently started using kalkwasser ph now stays between 8.0-8.3. But my alkalinity is constantly going down.
