I witnessed a a stock type R handle a EcoBoost Mustang easily at a local drag strip about 6 months ago. Honda has the fastest 4 cylinder engine Ive ever seen in a car stock
Many of the people making comments here apparently have no idea what this car is all about. It’s about handling, not straight line drag speed. One guy sad it handles like crap, is over weight, and is a pig in the corners. He obviously has not been in the car or watched any vids about the car. It weighs 200-300 lbs. less than the other cars in it’s class and handles like a go-kart. It’s the fastest FWD car in the world. That’s on the Nurburgring, the ultimate test of a cars overall performance and handling on a road course. It’s also faster than many rear and AWD cars on the Ring. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_N%C3%BCrburgring_Nordschleife_lap_times. It beats the Focus RS by 23 Seconds on the Ring!!! The Focus smokes the Type R in quarter mile. It beats some of the 7-10 year older Super Cars. (i.e, 2010 Nissan GT-R, 2009 Audi R8, 2010 Mercedes SLS AMG, 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo) and the Camaro SS by 36 Seconds (2010) and Mustang GT Performance Pack (2015) by 23 Seconds, and it’s a daily driver 2-Liter SEDAN! So have fun in all of those cars in your perfect little straight line. I’ll watch you pull away and then smoke you in the turns. I raced a Mustang GT into a high speed corner and looked up in my mirror as we entered the corner to see it all sideways and piss dripping from the undercarriage on the driver’s side. Ok, I can’t confirm it was piss but I’m pretty sure it was. It costs $5K less than it’s direct competition and is a better quality car. I paid $35K for mine. All the competition is over $40K. Watch some of the vids and see how flat it corners versus other cars, many which cost $50K MORE than the Type R. See ua-cam.com/video/6bhdev8vs7c/v-deo.html It rides much better than anything in it’s class. I’m sure someone will say that it’s ride is not as good as their Cadillac. I don't hate on any particular cars, but Apples to Apples and Oranges to Oranges guys. A phenomenal car at a great price.

unfortunately the majority of people commenting are literally kids or online mechanics who have never turned a wrench in their life and would be standing there watching a h.e.l.p. truck change their tire on the side of the highway. Engine and performance physics will go right over their heads..
this is true. these tiny turbos just get more unstable/reliable the higher the boost pressure. hence why larger turbos = less boost more reliability/engine safety for same amount of gains usually with more lag. you can only blow a pinwheel so fast with the same size breath of air until your head explodes or pass out..get a bigger deeper breath and the pinwheel can go even faster with eventually less breaths and no deaths.. same concept
@@jak3est sort of true, it's easy to push a small turbo out of it's efficiency range, but conversely a larger turbo isn't going too have the response of a small turbo. This is why one really has to plan out a build before starting.
also with all the small turbos, peak PSI is at 2k-4k and dies from 4k to redline. so you got peak tq of 300 at 4k and some retarded 150ftlb s at 6.5Krpm
handicapped so they will last forever. No idea how much the engine will last when going from 18 to 25 PSI. I know it's a honda engine (i drive a honda too) but still.
I drive my Type R now a year in Germany. I realize very clearly: this car needs no engine tuning because it is well equipped with 320 hp. At this I am not at all sure if it really is not synonymous more horsepower, because this wonderful part has an incredible boom. At driven 17000 kilometers I am max. 5x been overtaken on our highways, because the moments do not forget man. Really, well done Honda.
Honda tuned the car very conservatively out of the factory. Not sure if you finished watching the video, but the amount of HP and Torque that was additionally pulled out that engine with only ECU flashing/tuning is incredible !
@@andreyka64 I did see it all. I thought that's what you meant from left over power. I guess I'm just gun shy cause I've heard stories of folks messing up the internals with tunes already. That may be from folks trying to get too much out of the engine though.
well, considering the transmission is already having problems with stock power I'd guess thats why they decided not to push out all of the power this engine has to offer

I hated the look of that civic even just 6 months ago but it's totally grown on me. Also mad respect to Honda for STILL knowing how to be unique and have fun. Civics are old school legends and this one seems a whole new level at stock
It is aging into looking modern instead of crazy. In ten years the RS and Golf and STI are going to start feeling dated, the CTR will still have some life in it.
@@StatusSymbol Just a pretty generic statement is all. Many difference, not the least of which is this engines turbo versus the old naturally aspirated mills. Very different types of 350.
I have stage 1vittune in my Si I'm making 241whp and 296wtrq (my clutch is still fine btw)... It's a monster, can't put the power down the tires spin all the way through 3rd
There is literally no down side, the tuned software is calibrated well within the OEM threshold of what the vehicle can handle and will not reduce the longevity of the engine.
And still lose. Shit I love my Hondas too but welcome to 2018. Even V8 guys are conceding that v6 turbos are better. You can still rev to 9k with a turbo but make way more than 300hp
Yeah, and you have to rev it to 9K+ rpm in order for it to be any competitive, low torque, I like naturally aspirated, but you’re going to make a lot more power and torque with forced induction, plus it will drive better on the street since it will make good low end torque thanks to the turbo. I notice it alone in my 18 Accord sport with the 1.5 turbo, compared to my last Accord with the famous K24, this 1.5 blows it away, more low end torque, I don’t have to rev it to 4K+ rpm just to pick up speed, at just 2.5-3K+ rpm, it does everything I need to pick up speed on the street and highway, the old 2.4 needed more revs to get anywhere, turbo makes a huge difference.
Regarding front wheel drive cars and as a GTI owner for many years, putting all that power to the front wheels only can only go so far. My 2013 GTI was APR stage 2, 93 octane and gave it 280 hp. It was fast but very difficult on regular roads to keep the tires from spinning. Don’t get me wrong, I love the CTR, but they should have given it the SH-AWD. Current have a 2018 WRX stage 2 MA performance tune, j-pipe and exhaust. I don’t think I can ever go back to a front wheel drive car now.
I never did understand why so many people care about HP. How many roads can we drive on where you can go the top speed of the car. It's all about the Torque, the time it takes to get 0-60-80-100. Torque is everything you need in everyday driving. The HP is what you need at the track, remove speed limiter and go as fast as you can. My 2 cents
PSI is manifold back pressure, new cars have stricter emissions that make the exhaust back up more. Wish they would give CFM numbers rather than PSI or at least both if they want to talk about PSI. For example, a 88 Turbo Supra i had was at ~16psi, then i opened up the exhaust and the PSI dropped to ~14psi but you could hear more air going through and definitely more power. PSI is a second hand metric, not a real number indicative of what is really going on unless you are talking about two exact same setups with the only difference being a tune.
What kind of reliability could be expect from these Type R's with that kinda tune? I'm leery of tuning mine mostly due to longevity/reliability issues. If these tunes are safe and not too stressful on the car I'd definitely consider it.
The engine may be able to handle all this power but I'm concerned about the transmission. It's no secret that the one in the new type r is pretty fragile
People, owning cars is like viewing art; beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Love it or hate it, you both are right. I love my Subaru Forester XT. It's ugly like all SUV's but it's fast and it gets me around in the Minnesota winters. I think the Type R is ugly too, but I bet it would be fun to drive. I wonder if a tune would squeeze more horsepower from my XT?
Well it got more gain because you have an induction kit and an upgraded exhaust fitted on. Most people in the comments just wanna tune the ecu without any mods so don’t expect to gain the same bhp as this one 🤣🤣
with the ctr engine and bosch ecu, boost tapers down to as much as 10 psi near redline because to properly tune you need to taper the boost down high up on the rpm range when the waste gate must stay open about 2 mm so there isn't excessive back pressure with such high air charge mixture causing cross cylinder contamination. if you're running 25 psi near redline you're going to get some bad results, knocking and detonation
They most likely come with a BOV stock, but that noise may have been compressor serge coming from the intake like your suggesting (basically the BOV didn't blow out enough air and causes the turbo to "jam up" pushing air back out of the intake).
you know the type r is detuned for the usdm market...they orginally make 360hp from factory. technically its still stock and retuned to its default power
Have you flashed the Accord 2.0T already? do you think it would make more torque and horsepower? Is it safe for engine and transmission on the 2.0t Accord after been flashed out?
If you're in AZ, you'll want the highest OCT possible and IC. Get a KTuner and use the higher boost for winters and the mid for Summer - unless you are tuning with alcohol fuels....
Nice work guys. What about jumping on a 2018 2.0T Accord? Curious what you can tune with that since the engines are so similar. Also curios if the Civic's front Brembo brakes will fit the new Accord?
tbrakohiapa I would like to know this also my 18 Accord def needs a brake upgrade with that 2.0 cause it has some serious fade issues after some “spirited driving “
Yea, but how much heavier is it than ur 95 civic? Id still much rather go early/mid nineties boosted k - swapped civic/crx/del-sol than this car, especially considering how much money I'd have left over for performance upgrades. Id be making way more than 350 more like 800+ lol. Im excited to see what can be done with these newer engines though
This should not be call stock civic type r.. Sounds like this car has supporting bolt ons like intake, downpipe and exhaust.. more like stock engine and turbo.
Can u guys do an ecoboost ford? Maybe the taurus or fusion. I work valet, and those "economical" turbos actually haul ass for a bit. Would be interesting to see them tuned.
Honda/Acura Legend Type II 6MT, nothing else. The NSX wasn't even a 6-Speed until the '97 model year. Definitely not an Integra. Also, he indicated the '95 Integra Type-R was a 1.6L when in fact all ITRs worldwide were 1.8L. the CTR was 1.6L. The guy definitely isn't sure what he's talking about in regards to the older cars, at all.

I remember back in the day i had a large'ish (for the time 2008) turbo on my integra... made ~400whp @ ~14psi....but everyone at the meets were like "HOW INTEGRA PULL EVO WHEN EVO AT 30PSI AND TEG AT 14? EVO SUCK...." smh.
unfortunately the majority of people commenting are literally kids or online mechanics who have never turned a wrench in their life and would be standing there watching a h.e.l.p. truck change their tire on the side of the highway.
@@jak3est that's a very good concept. I like that
also with all the small turbos, peak PSI is at 2k-4k and dies from 4k to redline. so you got peak tq of 300 at 4k and some retarded 150ftlb s at 6.5Krpm
Wow that's a mean machine! Sounds great and nice work on the tune!

These are really handicapped from factory, very nice gains with just a tune.
handicapped so they will last forever.
No idea how much the engine will last when going from 18 to 25 PSI.
I know it's a honda engine (i drive a honda too) but still.
I drive my Type R now a year in Germany. I realize very clearly: this car needs no engine tuning because it is well equipped with 320 hp. Left over power? What does that mean?
Honda tuned the car very conservatively out of the factory. Not sure if you finished watching the video, but the amount of HP and Torque that was additionally pulled out that engine with only ECU flashing/tuning is incredible !
@@andreyka64 I did see it all. I thought that's what you meant from left over power. I guess I'm just gun shy cause I've heard stories of folks messing up the internals with tunes already. That may be from folks trying to get too much out of the engine though.
well, considering the transmission is already having problems with stock power I'd guess thats why they decided not to push out all of the power this engine has to offer

There is literally no down side, the tuned software is calibrated well within the OEM threshold of what the vehicle can handle and will not reduce the longevity of the engine.

Yup and rev to 9K
And still lose. Shit I love my Hondas too but welcome to 2018. Even V8 guys are conceding that v6 turbos are better. You can still rev to 9k with a turbo but make way more than 300hp
@@DonTHEhandsome1 on the streets N/A 200-250 is plenty of power. Spinning ain't winning. I'm not talking at the drag strip where you need 400+ whp

Unless your pushing 400+ horse power everything looks slow on camera. In the car I'd imagine it feels faster obviously.
full boost through 2nd and 3rd and still hadn't passed the white commercial truck on his left. ?
Regarding front wheel drive cars and as a GTI owner for many years, putting all that power to the front wheels only can only go so far. My 2013 GTI was APR stage 2, 93 octane and gave it 280 hp. It was fast but very difficult on regular roads to keep the tires from spinning. Don’t get me wrong, I love the CTR, but they should have given it the SH-AWD. Current have a 2018 WRX stage 2 MA performance tune, j-pipe and exhaust. I don’t think I can ever go back to a front wheel drive car now.
0:04 FALSE * Dwight from the office voice* that commercial was from a 1997 type r hatch
My 2 cents
5:35 Hmm 6-Speed transmission in a 1.6L Integra?
that moment you realize the intergra came with a d series engine as well as B series.

Time for big turbo
PSI is manifold back pressure, new cars have stricter emissions that make the exhaust back up more. Wish they would give CFM numbers rather than PSI or at least both if they want to talk about PSI. For example, a 88 Turbo Supra i had was at ~16psi, then i opened up the exhaust and the PSI dropped to ~14psi but you could hear more air going through and definitely more power. PSI is a second hand metric, not a real number indicative of what is really going on unless you are talking about two exact same setups with the only difference being a tune.
That’s a bad ass subaru you got there!! 🤜🏼🤛🏽
That sounds really good!
What kind of reliability could be expect from these Type R's with that kinda tune? I'm leery of tuning mine mostly due to longevity/reliability issues. If these tunes are safe and not too stressful on the car I'd definitely consider it.
Very safe with afr and boost. This is not like adding a turbo to a NA car. ECU Tuning is a very common practice on turbo vehicles.
@@vivid_racing Does the tune automatically deal with any air fuel ratio issues or is that something I'd have to somehow do?
The engine may be able to handle all this power but I'm concerned about the transmission. It's no secret that the one in the new type r is pretty fragile
@@youtuber-h3g What have you heard?

It's ugly like all SUV's but it's fast and it gets me around in the Minnesota winters. I think the Type R is ugly too, but I bet it would be fun to drive. I wonder if a tune would squeeze more horsepower from my XT?
Tunes will always improve turbocharged vehicles as it is easy to squeeze more power out of them. Let us know if you are interested!
Well it got more gain because you have an induction kit and an upgraded exhaust fitted on. Most people in the comments just wanna tune the ecu without any mods so don’t expect to gain the same bhp as this one 🤣🤣

I love all the hot hatches.
For about 800$. This is not bad at all.
with the ctr engine and bosch ecu, boost tapers down to as much as 10 psi near redline because to properly tune you need to taper the boost down high up on the rpm range when the waste gate must stay open about 2 mm so there isn't excessive back pressure with such high air charge mixture causing cross cylinder contamination. if you're running 25 psi near redline you're going to get some bad results, knocking and detonation

The whistling sound at the end is from the Injen intake? I didn't see a blow off unit, so if it is, that sound definition is what I'd want off mine.
They most likely come with a BOV stock, but that noise may have been compressor serge coming from the intake like your suggesting (basically the BOV didn't blow out enough air and causes the turbo to "jam up" pushing air back out of the intake).
Stock BOV makes that noise. An aftermarket oem on these things aren’t suggested
