FK8 Honda Civic Type R Tuned with Bolt-ons! How Much Horsepower will it Make?! Dyno Test Explained

- The FK8 Honda Civic Type R has proven itself to be a beast, especially when it comes to doing performance upgrades. The 2.0L Turbocharged engine is rated stock at the crank with an impressive 320hp and 295tq. Throw in an ECU flash and you now have an additional +54 HP +87tq bringing the total crank horsepower to 374hp and 382tq! That's a huge gain in horsepower and torque! But what kind of gains can you expect when you combine ECU Tuning with bolt-on upgrades on the FK8 Honda Civic Type R?
We're going to answer that question using our Mustang AWD Dyno and flashing the VRTuned ECU Flash to a FK8 Honda Civic Type R with a Mishimoto Front Mount Intercooler, Mishimoto Air Intake and Full HKS Exhaust system!

Joe Friday fuel system is limited at 400 and reliability is gone after 400... 600 eh will need bigger turbo fuel and rods n pistons. The car also can’t rev any higher at stock

Ppl are obsessed with extracting extra power from a car, but it's the entire package working in unison that make the driving experience pleasant.

Just got my Sonic Grey 2019 Civic Type R #34184 about 2 weeks ago. Glad I don't live close to this shop(Louisiana). I doubt I could make it 6 months before I came by to swap something out or purchased a tune lol. I am impressed.

The 2.0 Accord has the same engine as the type r just smaller turbo and different headers. All you gotta do is get a stage 2 ktuner and it bumps it up from 252hp to a little over 300 and making 315 lb-ft torque

I sold my FK8 Type R after multiple mods, made 255 kw atw but sadly ruined the cars driving characteristics. In my opinion this car is amazing left alone. Once you start modifying them youll regret not having AWD. I am now waiting delivery of my AMG A45 S

So maby I should just do an intake and catback, this way my warranty is definitely ok. I feel the stock Type R is already fast enough to put me in jail or get my license suspended. 😂

@@j4559 Yes the extra torque was the killer. I have a friend with same mods as you mentioned but went to 18's with softer and wider 265 rubber and made a huge difference. Hope this answers your question

Not bad but on a dynojet they make only 295whp with full bolt ons. Full bolt on hondata tune makes 338whp. I custom tuned mine I made 394 whee torque and 374whp. That was all in the same dyno. I gained 80whp on 93 alone with full bolt ons. Still for an off the shelf map it’s a good tune so I salute you guys. Always loved your customer service. Jacob is an awesome guy.
We make it a point to maximize our tunes efficiency across the board so it will compliment any amount of modifications or even none at all. Custom tunes will maximize the potential of the particular modifications done which allows you to get so much more out of it, rather than a tune intended for all types of mods. What does an ECU flash and tune mean for the driving modes? Comfort, sport, and +R?
The driving modes will function the same as before just with more power. The sport and race modes will give you the best throttle response overall.

What was the temperature and humidity? Am I hearing you correct saying that this car has on first run more power to wheels than the stock claims it has at the crank? Is the dyno reading high?
All I know is that cars like this and mine can make real good power per weight ratio. I'll be taking my little 4 banger to Roebling Raceway in a couple months. I already did Barber Motorsports Park, learing how to put power down to FWD on track. 👍
It has aftermarket bolts on so thats why it has some extra hp

How do the mods affect warranties & extended reliability?
My last "hot" car was a Lotus Exige S-240----razor strap-on mods neccessary-Lotus is bulletproof -as I had ZERO issues for 16K miles-( except 3 sets of tires!!!!!)
The tunes don't lock to the VIN or anything allowing a stock tune to be flashed back on without a trace. Reliability is just the same as before, just have to stay up on maintenance for ultimate efficiency.

solid numbers. However I was expecting GTi or Golf R numbers. The GTi with it's "itty-bitty" is20 with FBO is within spitting distance to an FBO CTR. And we're not talking an FBO Golf R, nor an is38 GTi. Please folks, don't get me wrong i LOVE JDM, but it's not easy to get additional HP out of this K20 motor (pulling your ecu, shipping to vivid or hondata) vs the EA888s (cobb tuning AP, APR, IE, REVO, Unitronic, etc, etc,)

Our tuners use VR Tuned which is our own tuning brand. Correct, we are just using the dyno to show its abilities

Wow just by looking at this what would happen if I put the turbo of the type R in to a 2.0T accord 10 speed, I think it would be a lot faster because of the quick shifting 10 speed, is faster than a manual
Modern automatics will most definitely be faster than manuals. Putting a Type R turbo on the accord would be a wonderful choice for more power

Our tunes have never blown up an engine. They are efficient and make safe horsepower gains. When upgrades like a big turbo come into play is when the engine is at risk. Our tunes increase efficiency

I own a 2020 type r and have a takeda 3" stainless cutback thinking intercooler and cold air intake would lime a round about of whats on this vehicle I would like those numbers because it doesn't hurt the integrity of the handling.
Adding an intercooler and intake along with a tune will significantly increase the power. Would highly suggest it

It's totally personal preference but the Type R has more doors than a Mustang so from a family perspective but if you're wanting something from a sports car end the Type R can definitely hold its own as well and has a lot of aftermarket customization options!

With my fbo I was at 330. With stock fuel 92 and rampage fabrication in house rs-450 turbo upgrade hit 390whp 365tq. We ran out of fuel, I’ll have prl flex fuel and hondata fuel system by end of this May. This should get me to 450whp easy.
So tired of explaining this.... the dyno number means nothing. Not all dynos read the same. The Mustang Dyno reads the lowest REAL WORLD numbers. What matters is the gains. If your car baselines at 400 and with tune you dyno 430, we’ll you made 30hp. If your car baselines at 300 and with a tune you made 375, you made 75hp.

If I get the new 2020/2021 Type R will this kid good my warranty? I had my 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 tuned pretty much the same with even more kids and the warranty was kept.
3 years late to this comment. I also had a 2012 Mazdaspeed3 that i heavily modded and tuned by freaktune! Was an absolute beast! It unfortunately died a year ago and I replaced it with a 2020 Civic Type R! I miss my Speed3 however the Type R is a worthy replacement and an absolute joy to drive!

will the remap work only on +R mode and on comfort setting will have stock map so can pass vrt emission test ?
The tune is applied to all driving modes, but still retain the features of each mode. Comfort will still provide increased MPG and reduced throttle input, same as factory. If emissions is a concern, the MyGenius OBDII tool will store the factory map so you can flash back to stock at any time! How can u run those bolt ons without a tune? Wont it mess up the car since the stock ecu wasnt tuned for those mods??
Basic bolt ones like intake and exhaust are ok and the ecu adjusts.

We are running our testing in hot climate due to the Arizona heat. This is also whp, not bhp. Brake horse power is what the engine puts out at the crank. Our testing is measuring what was put to the pavement

Cool, now, what are you doing to prevent this car from overheating? CTR is notorious from cutting power due to the heat soak when driven on a track. And that is at STOCK power levels. You just added more power, so now it will overheat even faster. It is one thing to make power on a dyno, it is another to do it reliably in a real world test.
FMIC upgrade plus oil cooler installation.
Paolo Sy The intercooler is supposed to prevent heat soak on the turbo.
That is all CRANK power! I swear the whole of America get this WRONG! And what the hell are you using a Ktag in this day and age?! There are tools out there that are a load more advanced and also eliminates the need to open up the ECU. I am also going to say that this also a weak generic flash, I have achieved more then that out of these at stage 2, they are very capable :)

A car like this you want still enjoy the handling and drivability
600whp would be a chore to drive unless you had the whole road to yourself

What’s those wheel specs for the te37?
Be careful with the stock front lip. It may rip somehow when u reach 200ish km/h. My got it rip coup weeks ago. After the incident. I've to sort out on how to avoid it happen to my fk8. Then i decided to put an extra bolt on my lips frm underneath it. Cause the stock bolt and clip that hold the front lip may easily loose. When it loose it may pressure by down force. Just for sharing bro

There are many variables as to why the torque curve is much better compared to older generations. Cylinder head flow plays a major role in power increase. The specific design of the head can allow more torque to be generated throughout the power band. Compression and stroke is also another factor to take into consideration.
Can someone explaine how to have the front wheel turning on a lift at more then 40kmh without having the traction management breaking the wheel on an 2018 Accord?
I try to make wheel turn at about 80kph on a lift.
