Jerry himself wasn't treating himself too well either during this time. He had a nasty cocaine and alcohol problem. So, in a way Jerry could relate to Layne. It wasn't as severe as Layne's heroin addiction but he still loved him.

But i guess it s the drug s fascination, which really enslaves your soul and carries you to jump off the ravine
The BEST unplugged of all, by far...
I never go back to watch any other unplugged, but always come to see this one over and over again.
I prefer Sludge Factory, but this one is also gold
@@jean-sebastienbelisle3714 I was talking about the whole AIC's unplugged. Cheers!
It’s hard to believe that the first time I saw these guys was at lake compounds in Connecticut supporting their first album, they were the opening act and we’re actually booed throughout the whole set. It shows what little we knew at the time
true story? what year
Interesting
always admired laynes picking hand it was so stiff and beginner looking but he still plays well
If you think that's stiff, go look at Willie Adler's right hand.
Exactly my thoughts
Definitely plays stiffly but all cant denied he wrote the hypnotic riffý and lyrics to one of the many iconic songs in the rock .. from either hendricks to page when they were a beginer level could ever do that of what layne achieved thru this song
@@johnathonklinedinst5889 Willie's playing technique is painful to look at
@@terryfauzifan9459 Hendrix*, beginner*
One of the best unplugged performances ever to date. Rest in peace Layne.
and RIP Mike Starr
That guitar solo is one of my favorites of all time, it's too badass.
I worked with Layne back in the 80’s in an Italian restaurant in lynnwood WA..he was pretty funny..quite the character
This is incredible!!! Were you two friends in the 80's? Did Layne spit on pizzas if he had a bad day? Please feel free to share your amazing story. Big hugs Xx
Please PL:EASE share more details
Sure you did.
Fake
miss Tembo why would he spit on pizza if he had a bad day? He wasn’t a total prick who took his anger out on people who did nothing to him. It’s sad thats the first thing you thought to ask like that would have been cool
best grunge band to come out of Seattle by far
they both kick ass. good voices complimenting each other. it takes them all to make music like this. That's why they are musicians, pros.
Jerry really felt the “stomach hurts and I don’t care” line in this performance
The way Layne stares at Jerry while he plays his little skit for some reason always cracks me up! ❤
jerry looking at layne while he’s playing the opening riff is seriously sad to look at. imagine being jerry at that time period man must’ve been hard to see your best friend at a very bad state
Jerry himself wasn't treating himself too well either during this time. He had a nasty cocaine and alcohol problem. So, in a way Jerry could relate to Layne. It wasn't as severe as Layne's heroin addiction but he still loved him.
0:13 sometime in the beginning someone is the crowd is saying something about lanye smoking . Layne laughs it off. listen carefully. he adds sarcasm. love that part.
Gerald Collins someone said something like ‘u can’t smoke in here’ Layne replied smth like ‘can’t get hurt’ then person is like ‘im just saying’. Smth like that :D
@@vvmew766said it earlier. that's gotta be BS; the entire band smoked during the concert
Angry Chair with a sprinkle of Hee-Haw. Fitting. 🎶🎵 😂
Still, this is the top of Unplugged performanses ever! The guitars, the vocals, the drummer! Everething is at top level!
I love the look layne gives jerry when he starts playing hes like really bro
Layne playing the guitar is so cute and the harmonies with Jerry were and are everything.
What makes this performance that much more amazing and special than what it already was, is that regardless of what Layne was going through in life and what he needed to do to prepare and get through this set, he was still able to perform at such a high level. Can't teach that kind of perseverance. I feel that this performance emanated directly from his heart, soul and his talents were without a doubt, God-Given. R.I.P Layne...You and the many gifts you gave/left behind in this world will forever be cherished, missed and celebrated!
This is the absolute best Mtv Unplugged ever. Period.
Rest in Peace Layne, it's now 2019, 17 years later and I will forever play your body of work.
Me too. I hope he’s found peace.
I love the way Jerry looks at Layne in the beginning of this song
Anyone else notice Jerry playing "Battery" to Metallica who is sitting in the front? 0:05
Awesome catch
yeah, was thinking the same!!!!
I can’t hear it
Tu tu.... Tu.... Tu.. tu tu...
Battery.. lol
Yeah its just a couple seconds but I recognized it right away
Crazy how they turned one of the scariest songs into something so soothing. Literally fell asleep to this masterpiece.
definitely. maybe it's the softer instrumentation, but idk
this sound is the sound that noone can create except AIC
it's like wind blowing to my ears
Kuko flat out the best example of dissonant harmony Ive ever heard.
AIC is my favorite. Heroin and pain make great songs, just doesn't usually end well. RIP Layne and Mike.
A few are close, but not the same. Never will be.
Layne, had a voice that was simply amazing..
It's always sad when someone with that kind of talent passes away to soon.. leave us wondering how much more they could have accomplished if they were still around..
R.I.P. Layne and Mike
This is one of the greatest music performances ever by MTV Unplugged! I have watched/listened to it at least 200 times. Thank You!
The whole unplugged session is out of this world... but man this fucking song is brutal
You can clearly see the bond between Layne and Jerry here at around 1:16. Jerry stares at Layne so that both of them will start singing at the right time. That's true love and friendship.
This show is so fucking good I'm so jealous of everyone who was around in the 90s. Goes double for anyone who ever saw them alive. I'm 18, but I'm gonna be forever pissed that I missed the grunge movement by 30 years. Some of my favorite musicians died before I could ever get a chance to see them in person 💔
Jerrys voice is so underrated even until this days - deserves alot more credit
I can't even begin to describe how beautifully their voices sound together. They seem like one voice, it's mesmerizing...
Their songs are so good, that even when you take away the heavy sound you still get a hard-core raw emotionally charges song. Wish I was able to see them live.
The way their voices combine is something very very special! Rip layne wish you were still making music here!!! Jerry I love u
0:36 It makes me happy to see Layne smiling here
When Jerry said “Randy! Get on that tuning shit man! Get with it.” I died 😂
Every time I’m in a dark place, I come right back to my constant... Layne. He just gives me all the feels!
Layne was such a doll💚🥲
BEUTIFUL MAN he was!!!
This unplugged session gets into every cell of your being so deep, from the very first listen. Spine chilling and brilliant in equal measure. Incredible talents.
The harmony is out of this world!
These guys can really do whatever they want to music
Battery at the very beginning?
Gert Jørgensen for like two seconds
Heard that too
Jerry's guitar work is sooo point on with the same emotion Layne's voice puts out there . I think that is the magic of these guys.
One of the most underrated songs, especially the accostic version ever
Layne on guitar = EPIC
Layne on Bass = *EPICCO*
Layne in any occasion= EPICCC
When you see documentaries he played like piano guitar bass and i think drums too
@Dustin Void Im pretty sure he wrote the whole song to!
I think he looks adorable playing guitar idk
Now THIS, is a Rock Band!!
This song is gold.
No man Diamant!
@@stevenb1099 lol you definitely need help from Jesus if you think this is trash
@@stevenb1099 Your taste of music is TOTAL SHIT
No this song is platinum.
Gives me goosebumps listening to this song how Layne could have faced withdrawal all can be seen in the lyrics
Layne, the voice, which was never ever reached of anyone
My favorite AIC tune...forever
written entirely by Layne
