- Recently Electrified my Trek Marlin 5, after breaking and losing lights in the past I decided to fit Electric lights run from the Ebike battery. Searching for a set was like dipping you toe in the ocean as there are lots on offer but little info, I was apprehensive at first as there is little info on wiring them and how they work and I hope my video will ease anyone's anxiety as they are an easy fit.
Check out this link below for simplified wiring diagram.

Your video is very helpful as I am deciding if I want to tackle this job. You made it look fairly simple. Appreciate the way you explained everything also. Thank you!
I'm building a mongoose cx24v450 and swapped the motor for a 48v 2500w motor, controller and battery set up and wanted to add lights and horn for safety and thanks to this vid it was a breeze. Thank you!
Thanks for the feedback, pleased it helped 👍
I just purchased this kit as a plug and play for a Bafang BBSHD. I bought the kit off eBay and installed it 4 days ago. For the bafang kit, there is 1 plug that plugs into the main wire harness and that’s it. It does not use the bafang headlight 5v. So it’s really nice with the exception of the useless turn signals. The headlight is bright, the horn is loud, and best of all, the brake light is bright. The brake light works even when the headlights is off ( as it should).
I am super happy I bought this kit.
Good Video
Super cheap and easy to fit - still happy with mine :)
Its been a few months since i used this video to hook mine up and just wanted to say thanks for the help. I made a video myself rewiring the harness to bypass a controller to plug in brake wires directly 🤙 black to one side of the brake switch and grounded the other side of the brake switch to the light kits main ground off the power plug. Been working great for months now 🙌
Thanks for that, still never got round to doing my lights - awaiting an operation so no biking this year yet :(
@@Makemrule1973 i hope for a smooth operation and speedy recovery for you so you can get back on a bike soon 😀
@@EmxBrandon Thank you :)
Dude you rock! I was just looking at this kit but wasn't sure if I was gonna buy. Well I'm buying it! Great video. I hope to see an update with the brake light jumpers.
Brilliant video. Much much appreciated!
Ive recently bought this kit, the electrics were simple enough to figure out but what i cant figure out is how youavtually fit the front light to the bike?
Thank you for your video. I have a question. I think I can connect brake lever with the wires. Then, where can i connect controller brake wire to?
The Male plug from the rear lamp unit (blue/white wires) connects to the Female (red/x2 black) with the link wires going to your brake levers.
question! does that wire work on a 72v system? idk if my controller's light cable out put is 12v but the build itself is for 72v system im just wondering if i can use that wire to hook up my 72v lights
Checking back on the advert it states the front LED with built in horn is 12 - 72 volt but the rear is 36 - 60 volts, hope that answers that for you 👍
Can I easily add this to my ebike controller? My ebike only has one power source for the battery, do I simply just buy a 2 way splitter cable so I can hook one to my controller and one to these lights?
That's what I would do TBF, if you do - put an inline fuse in just in case you have a problem. My controller has a power out for this but if it didn't that is what I would have done myself.
Does the horn work when the light is off mode
I have only every used it with the lights on, I will have to check and get back to you.
Just ordered mine, but my little concern is the turn signal seems weak
They are not the brightest in the world but also not the most expensive, being mainly off road I have yet to use them anyway but will be effective in lower light levels and not bright sun. Worth it IMO just for the headlamp alone which is super bright.
I’m very confused, my controller doesn’t have a female white piece
There should be a live output, if not you could tap off your battery but use an inline fuse for safety.
Hello. I bought an Yume M11 electric scooter. The scooter came with the rear light broken (the red diffuser ) and because was mounted on the rear fender after a while broke completely. Yume sent me a replacement but now I have no brake light. I changed the connectors between them and the led's are working either 2 either 3 from 5 total which 3 I presume should be for the brake light. I understood that the controller has a low and a high brake wire. Is the high 12V? I will mount a separate brake light but I see other connectors with only 1 wire. It means the wire is only +? If yes which one. And the ground is common with other ground wire? Please help me. [Smile]
The wiring for the lights I have is 12 to 48v so will work all between, the three plugs (3:20mins) from the rear lamp are x2 black and one yellow - the yellow one is for indicators each wire a different direction. The red and black wires into one of the plugs is earth (black) and red (live)for the tail lamp power and the other black plug has white (earth) and the blue (live) to light the brake lamp.
Brake levers don't work :/ the light is on for no reason and the brake light is always on
Sorry I never did get around to installing Brake levers so mine have never been connected on the bike, I did try them off the bike and found my headlamp would turn off when pressed ? Being off road I never needed them and have never got around to sorting this out.
The same problem! I tried today and i don't know where is the fault.
Have you solved the problem @DyLemma ? 🙏
Ouuu thank you very much!!!! 😬
what make of lights are they?
Tbh I do think they are a generic China unbranded set that some add their own branding to.
how about the tail light or brake light how to properly connect the wires to controller thanks
Unfortunately the supplier shipped cable brake levers instead of hydraulic sensors, they promised they would ship them but I have yet to receive them, there are 2 small black connectors leftover for brake connectors and I will at some point put them on when I have them. 👍
My Brake sensors did arrive and I have only just had time to fit them, simple enough job to do and connect up, the sensors working shows as brake applied on my info screen but unfortunately connecting to the rear lamp would cause the Headlamp to go off and shut the power off. I tried multiple ways of connecting to no avail (there is only one way really) so I have no working brake lamp. I will at some point if I have time have a look deeper into this to see why but TBH I'm mainly off road so it doesn't worry me.
Any tips on which wires source the power?
Power is supplied through the white male plug that has x2 black negative wires into one side and x2 red positive wires into the other, depending on your type of controller mine had an output that plugged straight in but others will have to be either remove pins or cut them to connect your pos and neg supply. Shown in the video @ 8.0mins.
@@Makemrule1973 thank you, I'll check it out!
hola en español gracias
Gracias.
how do you mount the rear light on a normal bike?
I have not seen a mounting bracket for this kit, mine is mounted to my rear pannier rack that had hole already to take a lamp and fitted great, you could make one if you have the skills or have one 3D printed.
You may be able to adapt a mounting bracket like the one in the link that fastens to the underside of your seat = www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0832LRC69/ref=sspa_dk_detail_1?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B0832LRC69&pd_rd_w=U0w32&pf_rd_p=a8d38b47-cfdf-4208-95a0-1af779cb6e7d&pd_rd_wg=4dHzs&pf_rd_r=B8PJDFHP12HBB6VC9PM3&pd_rd_r=ad64300a-f7cd-41ab-aa8a-a0ba654b2ab6&smid=A2I6PGRJX78USW&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyWllSR0czQUZVTTkyJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwOTkxNDA0VjNYT1NURVFZTUpRJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA4NjI5NzAxNUVBRFJIT0ZEQk8md2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9kZXRhaWxfdGhlbWF0aWMmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl
Is there a fuse for the headlight? My headlights won't turn off I'm wondering if it's a short or blown fuse
No there is no fuse, you could simply unplug it until you can find the source of constant power ie:-switch !
@@Makemrule1973 the switch don't work to turn off the light I'm wondering if that's the problem..but for now I'll take your advice and disconnect it from the controller..
How is it connected to the ebike battery?
There is an output from the controller for powering lights etc and your documentation for whatever controller you have will show this.
@@Makemrule1973 what if my controller doesn't have that output? Can I split it with another one? Thank you
@@enygma19 I'm no electrician but if it was me with no 12v from the controller I would tap off from the battery itself using an inline switch so you can isolate it and an inline fuse just in case :)
Will this work with a 12V battery?
Roy I would message one of the sellers, my bike is 48v.The kit as advertised states 12-72v front lamp with built in horn - then states 36-60v rear tail lamp with brake and turn function ! Sort of contradicts the first statement, my advise would contact a seller before you buy then at least you have them telling you it will be ok.
Its a bit steep at £50 for the set!
