  • My friends, when your goal is to present a model in gloomy, wet, muddy autumn conditions, heavy mud is to be expected. But you can use some interesting natural materials to enhance the look even further!

    At the end where you said you were conflicted over making it a diorama due to the long gun barrel, I have a suggestion: do an alleyway or “long but skinny” base dimension. Yes, an alleyway would be complex and involve lots of building facades; however, I think the large AMX 50 needs something to further emphasize it’s sheer size. Just imagine, the huge French autoloader beast rolling down a narrow alleyway. Or, if an alleyway is too complex, maybe driving between some fences? Love the project and can’t wait to see where it goes!

      I second this. Another option is to do a large book nook.

    Dear Martin, your production value has been increased, slowly and steadly. Its amazing what one person can do! But you keep the main focus still on content, content, content. Thats even more amazing! There is NO OTHER modeller who talks SO MUCH yet has so MUCH TO SAY!

    As usual I am fascinated from start to finish. I wish I had got into modeling in the twelve years I spent on the Abrams series of tanks as I could have had a ton of reference material. Oh well .. "c'est la vie"

    It's around 6 pm and I had a little nap in the afternoon to prepare for a long night of playing World of Tanks... So what's better than starting the 'night' with a video of the best tank modeler on YT.

    I think an interesting project could be a small tank kit in which you completely mask off one side to leave it just assembled and the other side do the whole painting and weathering process. This could show the huge contrast and of what the raw model and a fully developed one could look like and could be similar to those cut in half military vehicles in museums. Like the the aircraft museums where the jet engines are cut in half and you can see the whole engine internals.

    School ended an hour early so now I get some mud texture an hour earlier! I love the damp texture and sheen, the debris looks great! I’m excited to see the base if you decide to make one, I can never get enough mud!
    For a base, you could try doing something simple, like a long, thin dirt road. This would accommodate the long barrel and help to explain the mud.

    Nice result. I often use a model that I have a lesser attitude toward as a test bed for something I care about more. I figure if I don't like the result it's not too big of a deal. Recently, I have ground potting soil in a derelict coffee grinder to a very fine powder. Then, mixed it with various AMMO/Mig weathering products. Some of the results were actually pretty good. See you next week.

    For the model base, if the turret isn't already fixed in place. The tank could be lurking over a wall, bushes, or other obstecals, with the gun reaching over it.
    If the turret is fixed, maybe a maintenence scene, or the tank was driven in an pit and aming at something.
    Etherway, I'm looking forward to what you will come up with.

    Fantastic advice and techniques. Most remodelers have a tendency to over weather their models. I think its important to look at pictures from the time frame you are trying to capture. Doing a bit of research doesn't hurt. There is a fine line between weathered and going over board but hey it's just modeling not rocket science so to each his own. The weathering on this was superb I have to say. Unbelievable talent that takes a long time to perfect.

    Hi, long time viewer first time commenter!
    Find your stuff both entertaining and inspiring, both as an artist and a fan of history. I try to copy some of the things you do and bring them over into my paintings. I recently started experimenting with wet-blending on the canvas and mixed my paint with some dirt from my garden, after some disasters i ended upp with great results! :)
    You explorations into the world of dioramas have been probably the most inspiring of all! It's a joy to see all the different techniques and methods you try out :) I'd love to see how you'd takle something like earthworks, something like trenches or maybe some gun emplacement. I'm very fascinated with WW1 so that might be where that's coming from haha ;)
    Creative work can be pretty tough sometimes. I hope that I, through writing this, can give you some motivation and inspiration in return. I'm very grateful for all the ideas and motivations your videos have given me :) Thanks!

    Hey hey! I hope your leg is doing OK. These videos are a highlight of my Friday. I have a quick question. I want to break into armour modeling at this scale, what would be a great kit to start with, maybe something with some photo etch, or interesting parts or additions. You see, I paint and model wargames figures and armour for sci-fi, ww2, and fantasy wargaming. It's been 30 years or so since I have put together a model other than 28mm or 1/56th scale. I use many of the same techniques as you, but your stuff can be so much more detailed because of the size of the models. Got any recommendations for a great starter model in a larger scale? Thanks again for the great videos!

    • @Ivanov_397
      @Ivanov_397 2 роки тому +3

      Probably start with a Tamiya kit as those always have good fit. I've heard that M41 Walker Bulldog is good but I haven't built it myself. It's only like 20 USD on Amazon.

    • @james.black981
      @james.black981 2 роки тому +3

      Tamiya should be a good start point. Maybe Academy/ Takom. Dragon are a mid point, more confidence needed kit. Miniart tank kits are high parts count, high detail and somewhat demanding on attention to detail and time consuming. But give great results. Good luck.

    I have to say: Personaly, i actually really like when party of a model prodrudes over the edge of the base or diorama. It's kind of like the border is there and isn't at the same time (Schrödingers gunbarrel? ;D). A fourth wall break, in a way.
