  • This video is a reasonably quick tutorial on replicating mud, earth, and dust effects using a few AK Interactive and Mig Productions products. Hope you guys enjoy and have some happy holidays!
    And yes, I do know that the driver's side track is on backwards, what I don't know is how that happened....but I built this one a while ago.

    if you dont have pigments and you want a budget option for mud effects, id recommend mixing pva glue, sawdust, brown paint and a little water. you can also add dirt to this or if you dont have saw dust just use dirt instead. if you play around with the proportions you can achieve basically any consistency you want.

    Great video. I would not have thought of dry brushing with the color grey. I used your techniques while detailing the Hobby Boss M4 High Speed Tractor I just completed and I am very happy with the results. Keep up the great work.

    I've been trying out some mud effects recently. All I use is two colours of pigments and some PVA glue. I water down the glue and brush it on the model, then heap the pigments on dry. I get some pigment on a brush wet with the PVA mixture and sort of scrape it off on the model to look like wet clumps of earth (I use that technique on the tracks). I also use the slurry of pigment and glue mixture to simulate fresh mud. Finally I spash some of that mixture on using a toothbrush like you have demonstrated in previous videos. What I like about it is if I keep a variation of dry pigments and wet slurry it gives quite a realistic appearance of mud that has built up over time, some dry and fresher mud thats still wet. I find the trick to a realistic finish is achieving this balance. Sometimes I get it wrong and it looks too dry like I did recently on a Challenger.
    I also mix static grass and whatnot if the terrain calls for it and dab that on. I did a T-55 diorama on a grass mat that you showcased and I used a lot of the static grass that came off the mat to really blend the tank into the terrain. I'm quite pleased with it.
    Cheers and thanks for the vdeo.

    Hey, just came across your channel. Really nice work on your paint ! I was just wondering, have you ever tried mixing play-doh into a brownish color you would stick between the tracks so it would look like the Panzer rolled into mud because of forest fights. You could also cut string into thin pieces and stick it into the fake mud, so it would also look like you rolled into muddy fields in ye ole' Blitzkrieg method.

      I've got a box of 24 pastel chalks of all colours. I decide on the colour I want to mix and take bits of different chalks and grind them with a teaspoon. I mix the colours, add a little here and there until I'm satisfied. I use empty pill bottles to store them as dry as possible, so I can always go back and use them again.

    • @Panzermeister36

      I personally don't as I use Tamiya paints thinned with Tamiya's lacquer thinner, which makes a very solid paint coat. However, nothing bad will come from applying a varnish to protect your model.

    • @Panzermeister36

    Hey Panzer Meister merry Christmas and I got a question hopefully you can get to me as soon as possible with this you clear coat your models before applying the dust and dirt effects mud effects?

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36  3 роки тому +1

      I will often apply a satin varnish after the decals and brush-applied chipping are all done. This serves as a good surface for washes, filters, streaking, dirt, etc. and also protects the decals. I will not re-apply a varnish between each layer...I just let stuff dry for about 24 hrs and continue with the next effect.
      Usually my process is:
      1.painting camouflage
      2.decals
      3.chipping
      4.satin varnish
      5.filter (if required)
      6.wash
      7.dot filter
      8.enamel dirt effects on the upper areas
      9.matte varnish
      10.pigments and other mud effects on the lower hull
      I don't re-apply the matte at the very end because it will ruin pigments applied in step 10. Enamels applied with the pigments will act as pigment fixer.

    Everyone I have a question: gunna build a m3 Stuart diorama (1:35) with German paratroopers about to fire panzerfaust and panzershrecks at it. Do you think these were fired at m3 Stuart ever? Would they not cuz of how overkill and thin armor they were? Need historical accuracy! Thanks.

    • @HalidonDioramas
      @HalidonDioramas 8 років тому +1

      I think if I was a paratrooper and any sort of enemy vehicle was heading my way I would shoot whatever I had at it in order to stop it squashing me, I doubt the boys stopped to have a debate about armour thickness, penetration power and contemplating potential overkill aspects, shoot and duck, that's how you don't get squashed

    Hello again. I read that to apply waterslide decals you need to have a gloss surface
    I figured having a gloss surface on my military jet would not be the best look. Is there any other way i can apply my decals without the shimmering background effect you get when on matte paint

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36  8 років тому

      +ArtificialImPulse Well, I have never once applied a gloss coat to my model before decalling, so you don't need to. However, on an aircraft kit, the decals could be quite large and have big areas of clear around writing and stuff, so you might want to gloss it. I'm just used to crosses, stars, and numbers. A decal setting solution will really help make the decal stick flat to the surface; I always use Micro Sol

I was surprised with this particular product as there's quite a few vids out there with modelers using the above product. Perhaps a bad batch? Not sure. I did do a bit of research online and found a few modelers had the same problem. One modeler suggested that that particular batch might have accidently been mixed with acrylic binders in the manufacturing process - seems plausible. On the bright side, at least the turret, along with all the wheels are fine. Tried using thinner to clean it off but it just turned into a big mess.
