New T-55 From Tamiya Gets A Rebar Cage Armor Upgrade! (1/48 Scale)

- My friends, tonight we'll build the new 1/48 armor kit from Tamiya - the famous T-55. A kit that not only lends itself to some simple improvements but also countless interesting, often field-made modifications such as a rebar cage around the turret filled with sandbags and bricks acting as spaced armor!

"I didn't want to go over the top with detailing on this model" - Adds custom made rebar, a cage from the rebar, hand made sandbags, 3D printed bricks, missing bolts, etc, etc, etc.
That's still in the boundaries of "quick, fun build" 😁
@@NightShiftScaleModels If you say so. Even still, your work incorporates the most minuscule details and you make it look so easy. But then, that's the hallmark of a true master of their craft. The time-lapse bit with the road wheel prep really helped to put things into perspective.
Minor modifications be like:
@@discotrucker9740 that minor means hours of work
It all depends on your own definition of "over the top". Someone with real talent and skills can do whatever they like and call it simple for themselves. I was watching with a friend, and the moment that the turret was turned over, we both just went 😲😲😲 wow!!!
12:46 "after all, my intention was to keep it fun and simple" yes very simple
Well the intention was there, it was just poorly executed
The straight copper wire trick is like... doing th hard way for 10 years, while the easy way was 10cm away
I sad there and was all 'Oh... that was faster'
Learned that trick from an aircraft modeller 👍
@@NightShiftScaleModels Also, you made me change my mind. instead of a 1:35 abrams, i will literally buy this T-55, mostly cause i had a T-62 and it turned out...just bad, and i want to give the early MBTs another try
I always like the T-55's aesthetics. The rounded turret, the fuel drums on the tank bed and the IR spotlight so cool.
And the super sleek front hull, makes it look like a sports car 😁
I've always preferred a T-72. Just looks Soviet
Projects like these are the reason I don't skip ads... :)
IT'S FRIDAY AGAIN! Time for uncle Nightshift!
Great video mate, as always!
It’s all connected……… bum bum bum Bem Bem bum
Cheers bruh!
as always uncle did a good job.
This channel deserves more subscriptions
I’ve been modeling for 50 years and still learn new techniques from clever people like you. Thanks for your video!
I am just now starting to paint my 1/48 scale ez 8, with concrete armor. Love your work, keep on making amazing models.
Best thing to come to after finishing my classes is, "ma friends"
Every friday. I'm 30 years old and I'm not ashamed to say I look forward to "mah frens". IT'S SO ENTERTAINING! KEEP IT UP, MAN!
@@AntonSatyria seeing the post notification pop up always brightens my mood
@@AntonSatyria don't say "30 years old" like it's actually old!!
Same! I just don't wanna review my calculus final when I hear "ma friends"
Fridays are normally some of my better days, but it still amuses me how happy these new videos make me!
I was just trying to find a good video on the T55! great timing
the "ma friends" always gets me going hell yeah
Love the 1/48 scale as well. Tamiya makes the best detailed models there is. Pricey models but u always get what u pay for. I havent been disappointed yet. 29yrs doing models so yes there the best.
The cage is lovely unbelivable
The fact that u can make such cool models with modifications and so many extra things and still making it cool looking while I am very careful and I still mess it up sometimes makes me irrationally angry lmao
Oh wow that looks awesome
This is fantastic. The T-55 a is one of the best modeling subjects due to the almost infinite customizations and variants that are out there. Some still in service TODAY!
I am so happy that you did this because I wanted to do the exact same thing to a Tamiya T-72 M1. Heavy field modification and stuff because I have this idea of a Warhammer 40k army using "ancient relics" in their salvaged army.
A 38,000 year old tank....very 40k I like the idea. Hope it turned out well
Idea, build the Finnish stug from Tamiya.
love from Greece!
I support this
@@natman242 me too!
Just started a field moddified t72 from syria this week, so this videos comes perfectly handy for me, thanks a lot!
Hi, I come from Poland. I'm your big fan. I love seeing your work, and how nice a commentator. Warm regards, Tomasz Ps. great job
Why did you put my boy t-55 in a cage 😔😔 he did nothing wrong
Poor -55
For his own protection against RPGs :))
@@NightShiftScaleModels I see...
will be a good tutorial for those who like to glue everything after painting, great work.
Men i started to watch your videos a few weeks ago, and since then i couldnt stop, your content and high quality stuff is amazing, plus i always learn a lot of things of modelism, thanks a lot for the effort!
THANKS FOR THE TANKS FROM SCOTLAND CHEERS .
That rebar cage! 😳
Outstanding detailing on this kit. 😎 Friday's are always something to look forward to, thanks to Uncle Night Shift.
My week isnt complete with out a uncle night shift video! but my god you are a master of this hobby!!! cant wait to see more of this series!
I just finished watching the beast and wanted to build a t55, and then this vid came out, and it gave me some ideas for my build, thanks!
Super detailed job!
My oh my, a few weeks ago I bought this kit and when I saw it on your bench in the previous video I was hoping that would be the next build. Who would have guessed!
Your eyesight is sharp as an eagle! It was visible in only one short scene 😁
Amazing building as usual.
I love it, sadly I’m not very good at modelling, and I also love your channel, maybe someday you could make a full blown tutorial of painting kits/figures?
That’s what these videos are
Sweet! Love the cage.
I got my first model today surprisingly it was the T-55 Lindenburge line I got everything from your beginners video 😁 hopefully it turns great and also I watched your weathering tips and tricks vid and I learned so much 😉
The tank look's awesome. I love tamya kits.
Just wow! Can’t wait for next friday. 👏
Why am I even here? I've never been into modelling.
Watched till the end, tho)))
Your modelling skills are just out of this world by far, never cease to amaze. Looking forward to seeing how you're going to tackle those bricks and sandbags :D
COOL VIDEO, also you got me into modeling congrats.
I don't make models but, I love watching your show.
Bad neighbor hood treatment.....luv ya
Awesome. I was wonder how to do the cage for the kit that I got and you came out with a tutorial.
You know it’s Friday when you hear “My friends”
UHHHn-Kule Nightsift shows us again!
again high quality work and like your humor! keep it up please :)
Tamiya kits are so good, just put a bottle of glue in the box, shake it and the model is ready for painting!
Wow looks amazing
I built this kit, but as a serbian tank from the Yugoslav wars. One shitty thing I noticed after checking out a ton of reference pictures is that the cupolas on the turret are actually from a T-54 or very early T-55, which I mean... Is quite bad. Either way, its a good kit, and your build looks simply amazing. Cant wait for the next part.
Let's goooooooooooooo
Thank you
You should try a 1/16 or even a 1/4 model, those things are massive
That is simply amazing.
I would love to see you painting vehicles from star wars legion :)
Výborná videa, sleduji občasně už nějaký ten čas a jsem si vědom přízvuku, ale měděný drát odhalil původ autora :D Zlaté české ručičky v akci, moc hezký youtube kanál. Těším se na další skvělá videa :)
Those printed light guards are great!
Edit: and my condolences on the loss of the rebar caged T72. 😭
"I didn't want to go over the top on detailing" 😂😂😂😂
You should try paper panzer, look it up sometime :)
Scratch building an entire tank would be amazing. I don't have the skills but I'm sure uncle NightShift could lol
Finally Friday and finally nightshift 🖤. Btw, I got today these dried see balls mud and splashes paints from ammo, gravel and sand fixer, a lot of 1/72 figures from Zwesda AND: besolde my first alpine figure! Let’s see how this goes 🙈 also I try get my hands on VMS products.
its always a good day when Uncle Night Shift uploads
Dude, that T-55 tank look amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the armor and cast texture on it.
I am so curious concerning the painting =)
One of my favorite tanks? Is it my birthday? Very epic mr night shift
Always fun watching you vids! Will there be a video on you 3d printing process?
Super práce! Těším se na další video 👏
When I made a tarp, I used a different method, which is cheaper, I used the the used decal sheet, cut it to size, soaked it, crumpled it, let it dry, paint it, soak it, then form it on the model
Mô hình tác phẩm này đẹp quá.tôi rất thích
Лобовая броня катанная и почти идеально гладкая ! Я трогал .
Finally i have been waiting for this moment
It is very fine kit.unfortumately it lack the fuel lining.
I wish Tamiya or one of the other quality companies would come out with/reintroduce modern and historical Armor in 1/24 scale. I built & still have the old Tamiya British Centurion in 1/24 and it was designed to have removable panels for the turret, driver compartment, and engine. I was hit by a drunk driver several years ago and don't have the dexterity for anything under 1/35 or 1/32. I haven't built a kit in like a decade. I'm thinking about trying the Tamiya Vietnam War US Navy/CG PBR Patrol Boat in 1/35
Watching you straighten the coiled wire was in fact, magical, and that rebar cage is stellar! Fantastic start, Martin!
Night Shift: “…and a flat metal file to make the fender look like shee-“
Me: 🤭
Night Shift: “-eet metal.”
Me: 😅😅
Daaamn daniel!
Love the sub assembly with the wheels and tracks. Way easier to deal with.
...but a pain to paint.
@@fonesrphunny7242: true but still easier than having them attached to the model.
It makes the process really quick, you just need to be more careful when painting the rubber parts.
Awesome
Hell yeah! Been waiting for this one! Also, I'm really jealous that the smaller scale one has those tracks and the to-scale guide for assembling the tracks. The 1/35 I'm working on had rubber tracks which are fine, but I grabbed some aftermarket ones from Miniart that click together, and I tried gluing them all together at once and bending them around the wheels without much luck.
Now I'm going to try and go back and re-assemble them in smaller sections that I can then glue together.
Maybe you left the glue set for too long? 5-10 minutes is usually enough if you use quick setting cement, you can also try it by feel. If the track is flexible but it doesn't fall apart if you manipulate it, it's the best time to wrap it around the running gear.
@@NightShiftScaleModels Yeah, I think it was a combination of too much glue in parts, and too little in others. Turned it into a link of track that just broke apart in places, and wouldn't bend in others.
Awesome!!!, your ar insane!!!!
“one of my favorite pastimes activities is spooking at tamiya kits”
oh yes a pastime.
unlike me i can only get one every few months cuz my parents say it’s too expensive and i understand
Looks Nice, i made a kv2 recently on my Channel and when i make a tank i go to far and i added like 50tons of concrete and a lot of extra armor and a lot of damage and the bunker buster bekame a bunker 🙃
bunker bunker buster
@@britishneko3906 yeah
Your attention to details that tell a story on their own is still unchallenged in my opinion! Great video.
amazing work. I love syria modifications and when I am assembling a model of some Soviet tank I think: "Oh! I will probably make a Syrian tank!" and then I remember that i already made some syrian tank)
Maťo naprostá paráda. Marian
How are you planning to pain the bricks and sandbags behind the cage 😳😳
Does anyone know if Night Shift still uses Instagram or why he stopped posting?
He probably uses it to look at other modellers but doesnt post cuz he switched to patreon for posts
@@lordzombey1337 shame, I an moneyless
WOW!!!!
I need to have more confidence when putting these together
Always when you say thats it ma friends the end of the world comes 😭😥
New tank, new adventure!
I'm so happy to see this, the T-55 is my favorite tank!
Night shift: I want this tank to have damage
Also night shift: we have to be careful not to damage this tank
After seeing this video I feel like making a building model! Only my end result is not so good 😬 Great video 👍
Что то давно на канале не было 72 масштаба?)))
The "bad neighborhood" version?
Night shift my uncle i have a question what is a good Point to start patreon
Recently got into making models (by recently I mean 2 weeks ago) since then these videos have always interested me seeing how you customize models with your own resources
I guess buying Tamiya kits can be it’s own hobby! This looks terrific, I can’t wait to see all of the hardcore weathering in the coming weeks!
This is one of my favourite tank's!
