Thank you guys so much for watching! This was meant more for entertainment, rather than educational purposes. I sure hope this gives your a giggle as I struggle testing out a new to me technique. We all struggle guys! 😆🙈 Now is a great time to test out new application methods as we aren’t out and about as much. 🤗🤗🤗
You are so incredibly relatable! Thank you for always being real- struggles and all. You're like my Haur Bible, as we have similar hair! 😍😍😍 NEVER STOP!
Ooooh she sassy taday! Lol this was definitely funny to watch! Sorry it was such a struggle, but now I know what to expect when I try finger coiling for my first time. I will probably be a hot mess too! 😂 Mel makes it look so easy. How does she do that?! 🤷♀️ Anyways, thank you for showing us! Btw, Did you like the serum that you used? Would you reccomend it or would something else be better, like gel? Also, there were definitely pieces that looked more coiled than normal! ❤😊
I have reaaalllllyyyy mixed results with finger coiling ... but try it with thivker sections. Basically each coil would be one curl clump. Its waaaayyyy different for us wavies than for the curlies
So funny. I started the video thinking, “I bet this is going to be interesting!” 😂 I’m so glad this lengthy technique didn’t work awesomely for you because otherwise I’d want to try it and it looks way too intense of a process!
I didnt finger coil my whole head but since today is my wash day i decoded to just do one finger coil and the first half is 2b and the second half is a 3a but it will take forever to do my whole head since my hair is up to my belly button😭
Exactly, that definitely helps! You're supposed to pick up sections based on the diameter of your curl, so if you have loose waves you can take big sections. Manes by Mel also did a recent video with her cousins that have wavy hair, and she finger coils giant sections on their heads. Plus it goes way faster this way!
This video was so "real" because this is how we all go about trying new techniques! I have a similar curl pattern to you, but not as thick hair. Finger coiling makes my hair flat and look stringy. I have much better results with other techniques (denman brush)BUT... sometimes I will finger coil my "bangs" (like just today!) and other pieces around my face - which looks to me, is where you had the best results. Manes by Mel is awesome! I watch others, but you two are my staple videos I watch and subscribe to. ❤️
I tried it and had the same struggas you! It was great to see a video where the person didn't just magically know what to do and it worked instantly etc. I've never been a natural at doing my hair and this gave me a bit of a boost that I wasn't the only one baffled by finger coiling. I will definitely try it again on the odd out of place straight bits. Thank you!
smaller sections work great for finger coiling tighter curls, I've got your curl type with a couple of big ringlets and I finger coil with pretty big sections. it really makes a difference if the sections are too small it won't do anything. I separate the big clumps after and make smaller ringlets out of them. hope this helps :)
I feel your pain. I only finger coil the parts that tend to go the straight...a couple underneath maybe a couple in the front. Then I pin them in place to dry. I heard it encourages curl overtime.
Hi Courtney! I have been finger coiling now for a couple of months. I have 2C/3A curls. It definitely takes a lot of time, a lot of effort and a lot of patience! However, I am positive now that it is paying off - but you have to keep doing it. I do it on the weekend (when I have an hour of downtime). I can tell my curls are getting curlier. You did really good for your 2nd time! It took me a while to really figure it out! And you're right, the most difficult part is trying to figure out which way your hair wants to curl - mine mostly wants to curl forward also which I did not realize until I started finger coiling and I think that is a big part of why my hair is now curlier - I'm finally curling them the way they want to go. Keep it up and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised! Much love! 🤗
I found the finger coiling just pulls out all the curl, but wrapping around my finger works better (although I only have a few pieces that I need to use that technique on). I have 2b -2c hair (mostly).
Yes this! I'm transitioning and I have short (like not quite chin length hair, growing out a pixie cut) and I have 2a-2b and twisting the sections pulled out all the curl, but wrapping them around my finger has been a gamechanger and has been super helpful for trying to train the top layer of my hair which had the most heat from my hair dryer over the years :)
I don’t even know what my hair pattern is. Some of it is in tight ringlets that look almost fake, some of it is 2a waves. And yeah I find finger coiling overrated. It stretches out the natural curls too much
Sparks Fly thats how my hair is too, 3a curls on top, 2c curls/waves in the middle, small 2b layer, 2a on the very bottom. My hair is very confused lol
Sydney Bodenstein That’s pretty much my hair atm. It’s so annoying! Other people have it curlier on the bottom layer, but mine’s straightest there and goes all the way up to 3b edging on 3c corkscrew curls/ringlets on top. Like bruh. How do you take care of your hair? What products do you use? Atm I just us shampoo, conditioner and (don’t be mad) mens hair gel lol
Truly appreciate this video and that you posted it despite your struggles. I really wanted to see what finger coiling would do for someone with wavy hair. It's kind of nice to see someone with such great hair to also appear to not know what they're doing, which is how I feel every wash day. Lol. I appreciate your videos.
Oh my goodness, I would never have the patience for this!!! I loved that you left in the parts where this was a struggle. Sometimes UA-camrs make everything look so easy!
My hair is a lot like yours. When I finger coil, I use larger sections - about the size of your curl clumps. I also put clips in the top next to the root to give some lift. I really like how it looks.
Finger coiling is such a struggle. It takes too long and I always end up with neck and shoulder pain (because of an old shoulder injury). It makes my hair end up with spirals that have no separation so it looks like one super elongated twist. I wanted to try doing it again... but seeing you struggle made me remember how frustrating and time consuming it is. It's a pass for me. Basically all of my hair curls towards my face lol. I think it made some of your hair look more elongated, but in other areas it made it look more piece-y but voluminous, so I liked it. It gave me a "beachy" vibe.
It looks beautiful! 😍 There are definitely sections that are more defined than normal. I finger coil quite often/ use my denman to define curls. I have a tighter curl pattern than you, but finger cooking really helped train my curls when I first started my journey last September!
Thank you so much for leaving the hangups in the video and addressing them - not just editing them out. It's so helpful to see the issues that others are having as well, especially when they have similar hair to mine. I think there's more definition to your curls doing this method, but not SO much that it would be worth 45 minutes every time. I wonder if the more you do it, the better the results? I've not tried it myself yet, no time...but maybe with the whole "don't leave the house" we're in, I might have some time to try it out.
Thanks for trying! I've been using cgm for @ 4 months and tried finger coiling once. For @ 1 hour of hard work I was rewarded with stretched frizzy curls! Denman brush didn't work either. On the bright side I lost my temper a lot, too!😅 Maybe I'll try again...someday. 💝
Bravo on your great content! Your regular routine comes out so nicely that I wouldn’t say the extra effort is really worth it. But thank you for taking that long ride on the struggle bus for your loyal fans!
I just started my curly journey and on the days that my hair just doesn't want to curl right, finger coiling has SAVED me. It helps the straighter parts curl and holds every piece of frizz into a curl clump!! I have 2b(in the back of my head)-3a hair(behind my ears and in the front) and maybe it just came natural to me but I didnt struggle with it. I also dont do my whole head though. I grab the spots that arent as curly, grab a curl clump (whatever size that may be) and twist it.
I would love to see you use a Denman brush on your hair. Using it to train curls and using it to train your hair by twisting the brush and putting ringlets in your hair.
Love the fact that you had trouble and we got to see. Makes it a little bit easier to think about trying something new and know that it isn’t always easy! I have put off trying coiling but now I might try. I really like your own curl pattern for the effort
Finger coiling took me a WHILE to master. It took patience and practice. Now I love to what I call “spot finger coil” as needed AKA finger coil curls that are already clumped/gelled and still wet but continue to look wonky when I’m about to plop my hair. My curls look very wonky if they aren’t twisting in the right direction so I can easily spot where I could use some coiling. I also have a tighter 3a-b pattern. If you haven’t watched Mels video where she finger coils her sisters hair, I’d highly recommend that. ❤️
The way you edited this video is perfection. I'm glad you didn't leave any of the struggles out. Your patience has inspired to try this. Also, your face at the beginning when you said you weren't impressed so far and then carried on 😂 you poor thing, I really felt for you to have to spend that much time doing this for us, your viewers. You truly are kind hearted with a lot of inner strength.
It's great to see even seasoned curlies have struggles some times. Makes me feel less like a failure. You motivate me to try new stuff, and when I struggle, I think to myself, Courtney also had problems at this point, it's not me failing, keep at it, you can do this! Whenever my motivation is low, I turn to your videos for inspiration and encouragement.
I'm definitely having one of those days. I tried finger coiling for the first time and my hair barely looked any different than what it normally does when I just scrunch. I'm very sad because it took me over an hour to do my whole head.
Cathi Smith After I shower and pat my hair down with towel, I add gel and curl cream (I use Not your mother’s curl talk gel and cantu curl activator cream) and I take bigger chunks of hair and finger coil. I plop with a cotton Tshirt for about 15 minutes, then I use the diffuser on the lowest setting till it’s about 90% dry. Then I let my hair air dry. When it’s completely dry, I grab a bit of rosemary oil (just a dab) and take the coils apart and scrunch the crunch out carefully so I don’t get frizz. Hope I explained everything to where it’s understandable lol. Hope this helps 🤗
This was a cute style! Though not Really a better look than a regular awesome hair day. I would be interested in seeing you do a wet set (magnetic rollers, pin curls, etc) with mousse. Great video!
Your hair looks beautiful. I'm going to try this because my hair is probably a 2c-3A and quite a bit more wavy than yours without doing anything to it, so this should work for me too. Thanks for showing me how to do it! Don't fret the mess ups. That's going to be me too.
My hair is 2C/3A and I only finger coil for wedding and special occasions. It takes AGES, but my hair looks AMAZING afterward, so I do love the results and they do stay for about 3/4 days
I recently started the CG-method. I tried everything to eliminate frizz!! I found that finger coiling is THE answer for me to train my wavy/curly hair. I’m soooooo happy!!!🥰😍
Your hair is gorgeous! I watched her video and she doesn't coil to the end of her hair length, if you watch close when she does a close up, she has the hair strand folded in half, and starts twisting then let's go. Don't know if that could help 🤷🏻♀️. I don't have the patience to try it lol, so I give you major kudos for going for it! I love how authentic your video is!
I use my Denman brush and let the hair "ribbons" it creates fall wherever they appear. Then, I take small sections from where my hair is almost straight (top layer, above my ears) and I wrap them (rather than twist and coil them) around my index. I carefully, very gently scrunch all my hair one final time, and don't touch it again until it's dry. This works pretty well for me! My hair is 2b with a few 2c waves. Thank you for experimenting with so many products and techniques and sharing your results with us!
You really took one for the team, the curly team! You saved me 45 minutes! I love you! I’ll use you scrunch method or finger rolling. I believe even Mel said wavies often do better with with finger rolling. I’ll try that maybe, unless scrunching can work for me too.
Thank you for showing your struggles with something new. It helps to know no one has it ALL figured out and even experienced wavy/curly girls are always trying new things. Also, not having tight curls that stand up or stay together on their own is its own struggle that only we wavies truly know. I appreciate you!
Thank you for posting this!! I was looking at your channel for this! I too have wavy hair and it just wasn’t working!! I tried it another way, I applied my products like I normally do and when I finish plopping I section my hair and the clumps are my guide to finger coil and I do that and then squish like crazy! I find it worked for my hair!! I hope it helps!
I bought a microfiber body wrap towel at Target. It's supposed to Velcro around your chest, but sometimes I put it over my shoulders just like a hairdressers cape! Since it's microfiber I don't worry about my hair touching it, and it never falls off. Plus it helps to keep me warm!
a stylist tried to teach me in the chair about a decade ago. the manes by mell videos helped a lot. Highly recommend watching her do it on her seester Amanda's hair since her hair is more wavy-curly and also very long. Firstly, thank you for trying something new! You really put yourself out there. Vulnerability is a strength! If you are interested in feedback from a non-pro ... But if it causes you stress, pass over me, no worries. .. A couple of things I noticed in your technique, noting that we didn't see you do your whole head, is where you began your twist, smoothing the section, and direction of twist. Mell starts the twist close to the head. I find this improves my 2nd and 3rd day definition. Try smoothing the section between your fingers before beginning the twist. Some areas of my hair are fine and some are coarse so I use a denman brush to smooth some sections. This will help the hair lay together, defining the overall direction. Finding the direction of the twist: I love this part of your video. I know you felt like you stumbled but people NEED to see that part. Back to the denman brush. If I am having a hard time finding the direction, I brush the section with the denman brush one way and see which way it curls. If it's not looking like it's swirling, brush it the other way. This will smooth the section while helping me find the direction of the curl so I can coil it properly. I find that the finger coiling does help a lot with definition on 2nd 3rd and even 4th day hair. I have mostly fine hair so product can get to be too much. Mell uses a lot more product than I can without it looking greasy. I really like to start out with minimal amounts and add more when I refresh.
Glad to see that I'm not alone in my struggles of finger coiling. I can never decide which way my hair is supposed to curl!! Your hair definitely looks curlier imo but I'm not sure if it's feasible to put in 45 mins every time. Thanks for the video ❤
I think it looks good, but not better than your normal routine. Takes way to long to not be substantially better. I do love your curls. I might try it just in the sections where my hair doesn’t curl as much. Thanks for the demo!!!!
You call it a hot mess video. I call it relatable. I finger curl my hair almost every wash day now, but it felt like it took me months to learn. Thanks for posting this.
I have wavy/curly hair. I find that finger coiling works best for my hair for refreshes, not as much on wash days when my hair is way more wet. I also think wrapping my hair around my finger works better than Mel's twisting. I think because my hair is much looser.
I noticed that with my looser curl pattern if you finger coil your clumps to help them go the right direction to fix any wonky bits or to help some stray hairs join a clump is the best, but doing it for the whole head never works, it just makes them flat. Usually, I do it after I've added my cream or leave-in and scrunch my hair to get my pattern to appear. Then go through and fix the parts that need help and scrunch out the excess water. Then add my gel to lock everything in and diffuse.
I think they reason Mel took tiny sections is that her hair coils tighter, I think you could take a bit bigger sections since yours are a bigger coil? I have tried bigger.
There is someone with more of a similar hair type to yours and she has a video on finger coiling as well. Her name is luisa louis and she has fine wavy to curly hair. I think your hair looked more defined but maybe a little toooo much product (I personally have fine hair that hates too much product and weighs down easily. Your hair loves lots of product though so its just personal preference) It still looks really good and I hope that you do keep trying and maybe you can do an update video on it in the future. :)
I don't think your attempt is a hot mess BECAUSE you're showing exactly what I've gone through and probably alot of other people! Your hair's natural wave/curl pattern is already awesome! Here's what I think.....that was alot of work for you. I vote you skip the finger coiling because your curls already have it down pat on their own! :-)
There are definitely more peices with more of a curl. I have about a 3a curl type and finger coiling works amazing. On days where I have extra time and I'm going out I finger coil. I do it when I'm still in the shower to prevent water going everywhere. I use some product when I'm doing it but then I also apply more afterwards. My curl usually give me a hint in which way they want to turn because they begin to form a ringlet wet. I also think doing it often sort of "curl trained" when I was transitioning. 😽
I'm a 2c/3a curl pattern, but the bits at the front (which are also now white!!) are straight!! My hair is also medium and coarse. It does form ringlets in the shower, but as I have my head forward and I bend over, I can't really tell with these bits. I also can't work out exactly how to do the coils - do you wrap them around your finger and then keep twisting it tight?? I'd love your insight - I'm still transitioning I think, along with a really bad cut!!
@@cathismith2624 Hi Cathi, little white friends can be a hassle. My mom has this same problem. Her hair texture began to change when the color changed. They often don't like to curl for her but she's learned to embrace it and it's still beautiful. Although once your fully transioned and have the proper cut it will improve. And yes I grab it and begin to twist and continue to twist, moving downward. I personally do it with a leave in to have more slip. Then once I'm done I add more gel. Finger coiling could help you with those peices your concerned about and make the transition a bit better. Hope I was helpful😊
Finger coiling is honestly the only way I get solid spiral clumps of curls to stay in my hair. I don't coil every single strand though. I usually combine a few strands and coil them together to make a thicker spiral. I always do the regular scrunching with my curl products on damp hair to get most of the curls going, but without coiling it's just kind of a mess. My hair is probably 2b/2c and very thin so it needs a lot of help to look full and volumized. If I comb my fingers through it when it's damp I'm guaranteed to not have lasting coils. I also scrunch as I'm coiling to keep it bouncy. But everybody's hair is different and responds to different things!
I've seen that Mel video too ;) I let my hair do its natural thing and then I finger coil the clumps that need some help and that is my every wash method, works well for me but I love your natural coiling techniques! Took awhile but it did turn out pretty, lots of definition, but not worth the time lol
Your hair looks so beautiful and shiny the way you usually do it I definitely wouldn’t bother! And I agree with the person who said she’s been having one of those days for like 3-4 months now . . .
It was fun finding this video! I have almost exact hair as you (2A) and I sometimes do my own "finger coiling technique". I had never heard about the technique that you just did before, by I got to do my own spontaneously. With it, I do not get curls (it is not at all my goal since I do not have curly hair, it is not my favourite hair type and it really doesn't look good on me). However, I do get to have straight hair on the top of my head and well defined XVIII century ringlets type at the ends (as I used to have when I was little without needing to induce them with my fingers). Such a pity I cannot post a picture here and show you all the results. I'm sure you could get them too.
I have very similar hair, this technique elongated my curls way too much. I think it is one better suited for tighter curls that need length like your type 4s
Holy moly. That’s a lot of work. My hair is past my waist, I’d be afraid my arms would quit on me. I have tried finger coiling the clumps in their natural pattern rather than separating and that does well for me on the curlier sections of my hair. The palaces where it’s wavy the coiling tends to stretch it straight once dry. If that makes sense. I think finger coiling definitely helps with tighter curls.
We have very similar hair and I’ve been considering trying this for days. Yours looks great. I also experience trying things like this that people on youtube make look beautiful and work perfectly but do nothing for my hair. I NEED something for the back and crown of my hair, that refuse to curl like the rest.
So after doing some research I decided to purchase the treluxe line with your 15% off coupon and wow my hair never looked better!!! My curls were actually defined and literally no frizz. I was shocked as someone who has struggled with frizz my whole life. I think what helped my frizz was the reflex serum, I've never tried a product similar. Definitely satisfied with my order!!
Thank you for sharing something you struggled with! We only see the good experiments as so many share the good results. But the struggle is real and we all have frustrations when we try something new. I have type 2 waves and finger coiling was a bust for me.
Hey Courtney! My hair is a lot like yours and I have been doing the curly girl method since January 2021. I straightened my hair my entire life so I’m having a lot of fun watching you and learning from you. I have been doing finger coiling for the past three or four weeks and honestly, for my loose waves it seems to be the best option for curl definition. However, I have not figured out how to refresh it so I literally spend one hour every single day doing my hair!! The other day I had my straightening iron in my hand and my round brush and I was tempted to go back to my old ways… I wish I could refresh instead of redo!😩 I often have to be at work at 5:30 AM that means I’m up at 3 AM just for my hair!!😭
I tried finger-coiling once before and didn't see much improvement for the amount of time it takes. I switched to CG to save time on my hair, i.e. no more curling iron to tame the frizz, so this is counter productive. I truly appreciate your effort, though!
I tried Mel's finger coiling method last night as well, but I don't see that it really helped me much. The top of my hair was really flat when I finished. My main goal in trying the finger coiling was to try and assign my short, frizzy hairs to a specific clump. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but it's possible my clumps or just thinner then yours. It seems like you have a much looser curl / wave pattern and mine is zig-zaggier. About your results, though, I don't necessarily think the finger coiling made too much of a difference on you either. But then, I'm seeing it through a screen and not in person. Your hair looks gorgeous regardless.
So funny to watch only because I know what a pain finger coiling is. I've watched Mels video many times, too. I just noticed how very good she is at handling her hair. I tried it once, in the shower like another yt'er, I got really good results but just don't have the patience. Thanks for the video but I think your usual routine works better for you.
I tried this yesterday (I have 2c/3a) I have done this before and results were about same, not much. I suppose if you did this every wash constantly you'll see the benefits. I mainly tried it again cause the back underside had stopped curling but this didn't work. I always put being wavy/curly as trial and error, not one size fits all ❤️
For anyone who cares I use to have curly hair, but I bleached it and flat ironed it for years and my curls have left, I only have a few left. I’ve started taking better care of my hair using healthier shampoo and conditioner, deep conditioning, and not using any heat or styling products besides maybe some anti frizz serum (but only a small bit for certain areas) and I figured if I could damage my hair enough to where it started going straight on it’s own, then maybe I could coax my curls back too, so I started finger curling my hair with leave in conditioner after I shower, (on damp hair) I apply the conditioner half way down my hair to the ends, and then finger curl and then pin each curl loosely with a small hair sectioning clip and then I just let my hair dry. It works good for me and takes me maybe like 20 minutes. You could probably use a heating cap to dry if you wanted to, but I’m trying to stay away from heat.
Thanks for being real. 😂 I love you. Finger coiling for me is always super arduous and exhausting. Knowing your process isn't glamorous either is inspiring me to keep at it.
I like it when you squish to condish better. Im a wavy too and i dont think it work for me when i tried too but when i did it it was fast because i didnt want to take small sections.
You represent me so much! At least, when you are trying something new, you go all ways down! Most times, I change course in the middle, like when I'm cooking! Also, try again with bigger sections! Your are great! Love you
Works best with a gel with some hold on looser curls. At least for me, without gel can’t get finger curling to work. My hair is fine, high porosity like yours, but perhaps just a slight more curl to it.
Oh my goodness. I tried finger coiling today. Second time I’ve tried and both times it’s a hot mess. I have wavy/curly hair. It made lots of straight pieces and the ends got funky. Also no volume. My hair likes it better with plop and diffuse. Glad I tried this when my husband was out of town 🤣
I think it is more defined and uniform in the back! :) I only finger coil one section of my hair occasionally because I have a deeper side part- with my heavy hair it makes my waves fall flat so doing that one section brings back my waves.
I have pretty fine hair that is (usually) supposed to be as wavy as yours and I don't feel like it worked for me. Kind of flattened out some of my curls. I'll maybe try this method later when my hair is in better shape.
I did this on a piece of my hair that always curls well, and it was insane!!! For some reason though my hair dries sooo fas the top of the hair it won’t work for because it dries way too fast. Maybe I need to dampen it with product or something, idk. Under layer works great then my top layer never gets as curly :(
I’ve tried finger coiling and it made my hair STRAIGHT. I really feel that for you, there’s not much of a difference between your normal routine and this routine. Finger coiling is just not worth the time and effort for the minimal results wavies get.
My hair used to be straight (and poofy + a crap ton of frizz) until I switched from hot water + blow-dried to cold water + air dry when washing my hair. 😂 Its now 2a in the front with slightly straighter pieces in the back! I love your content and it has inspired me to start treating my hair right ❤️
Thank you guys so much for watching!
So funny. I started the video thinking, “I bet this is going to be interesting!” 😂 I’m so glad this lengthy technique didn’t work awesomely for you because otherwise I’d want to try it and it looks way too intense of a process!
I tried this today before I even saw your video & it didn't turn out well for my waves! Thanks for sharing!
I'm a wavy, I take massive sections and it works really well for me.
If I take small sections it never works.

I can’t stop laughing that you said shower curtain instead of shower cap 😂😂 I just imagine a huge shower curtain on your head 😂
🤣🤣🤣
That would be pretty funny! 😆
If you haven't already, could you please try out the "rake and shake" method? I'd love to see how it turns out on your hair 😁
I tried it and had the same struggas you! It was great to see a video where the person didn't just magically know what to do and it worked instantly etc. I've never been a natural at doing my hair and this gave me a bit of a boost that I wasn't the only one baffled by finger coiling. smaller sections work great for finger coiling tighter curls, I've got your curl type with a couple of big ringlets and I finger coil with pretty big sections. it really makes a difference if the sections are too small it won't do anything.
Ohhh I'm going to try that one. Thanks!
@@morgangilders6500 you wrap it around your finger then release it? is there a video on this
@@morgangilders6500 same for me :) just curling a few top sections around my finger to help definition. And I am growing out a pixie cut. :)
I tried finger coiling, and it made my hair mostly flat. My hair's patterns are in the 2s as well. 🙂💕 Thanks for this video.
Sydney Bodenstein
That’s pretty much my hair atm.
I just tried it tonight and within an hour, totally straight. (2b/2c)
@@sydneybodenstein928 ok I am not helping but I habe like the same hair only that the 3a curls are in the bottom and the 2a waves are in top🙈
Yes the struggle is very real, and funny! So glad you enjoyed it!😃
Yes love the authenticity 💕
Alexandria Torres My finger coils don’t separate either! But I do find it better to coil in alternate directions as they don’t stick together so much.
It looks beautiful! 😍 There are definitely sections that are more defined than normal. I finger coil quite often/ use my denman to define curls. I have a tighter curl pattern than you, but finger cooking really helped train my curls when I first started my journey last September!
I loved that you used Mel's video, because I luv her and I luv u... it's like love squared! ❤²
You and Mell are the reasons I’ve had so much success in my curly journey thus far. ☺️
Awwee! You are so sweet! Thank you!
I found that it works really well with bigger sections.. also makes the whole application a lot quicker
I've tried finger coiling before and then plopped it and it worked amazingly for my hair!!! My curl pattern is similar to yours.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video, and my struggling, lol! 😆
I'm so glad these videos help you so much! Sometimes you just have to keep at it.❤
I mean... you shouldn't feel like a failure just because of hair, there are bigger problems in the world
@@lapinus we're talking about hair, not life 🤦🏻♀️
I'm definitely having one of those days. I tried finger coiling for the first time and my hair barely looked any different than what it normally does when I just scrunch. I'm very sad because it took me over an hour to do my whole head.
sad?u should be happy it turned out the same. u don't have to do it for an hour ever again !lol
@@emmagavars6385 that's true!
I have between 2c-3a hair and I finger coil bigger chunks of hair. After drying or diffusing, I carefully take them apart. Results are amazing!
Can you please explain exactly how you do it? And do you clip it while drying? I air dry because my hair has always dried out if I use a dryer.....
Awe, thank you! I am glad this helped!
My hair is 2C/3A and I only finger coil for wedding and special occasions. It takes AGES, but my hair looks AMAZING afterward, so I do love the results and they do stay for about 3/4 days
Thanks for the video. I started to train my curls with this method. The hardest thing is how to know the direction of the curl 🧐
I think it’s too much work! Your hair looks beautiful without all of that haha turned out pretty good though!
Your welcome, I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Yes, it can really be a struggle some times!
Ohh im gonna try this. At least that way you can see where your hair naturally clumps and try and keep that going throughout.
Manes by Mel is my other favorite youtuber for curly hair. I legit LOVEEE her. And, I have watched that video.
Glad to see that I'm not alone in my struggles of finger coiling. I can never decide which way my hair is supposed to curl!!
Your hair definitely looks curlier imo but I'm not sure if it's feasible to put in 45 mins every time. Thanks for the video ❤
Thank you, I''m so glad you enjoyed the video!
My hair will curl different ways and then stay in a twist thing and I think it’s not worth it for me 😂
I think it looks good, but not better than your normal routine.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! 😃
I LOVE TRELUXE!!! Its almost the only thing I can use on my hair. It is HARD finding products with little to no glycerin!!!
I love Luisa Louis!!
I don’t see the advantage. The time commitment!!!!! Your hair is beautiful. Don’t mess with a good thing.
❤😃 You are soooo sweet!
i have wavy hair and have been wanting to finger coil my hair too! perfect timing and amazing video as per usual. LOVE U
I really appreciate that you showed how much of a struggle new techniques can be.
Yes, there is defiantly a learning curve! So glad you enjoyed it!😀
Finger coiling is honestly the only way I get solid spiral clumps of curls to stay in my hair.
I'd love to see you doing Mells method for long hair (she did it on Amanda's hair) love your realness in this video
I enjoy how personal your videos are, it feels like we're figuring our hair out together!
I can't do finger coiling at all. My hair ends up wrapping around my fingers tightly. LOL It's way too much work! Scrunching is the way to go for me!
I like how it turned out on your hair; it's more piecy and messy (which I like more), but isn't worth 45 minutes of headache.
Thank you for sharing something you struggled with! We only see the good experiments as so many share the good results. But the struggle is real and we all have frustrations when we try something new.
I have type 2 waves and finger coiling was a bust for me.
Finger coiling just seems to straighten my curls and it's so difficult to tell which way to coil. Never mind the time involved!
Hey Courtney, you need to do it for about 6 months consistently and you will see the difference.
Thank you. I was wondering about that.
So its like training your hair?!
I usually use a claw clip to hold the towel together anytime I’m messing with wet hair 😉 Just a tip.
The awkward pause and scratch at 1313 is so me when I’m editing 😂
I love you, you brighten my day!
Haha! Thank you soooo much! 😃
Oh good. I tried this and thought I was just stupid and couldn't figure it out. 🤣🤣🤣 You're a pro and still struggled. Hahaha
I always put being wavy/curly as trial and error, not one size fits all ❤️
Yep. Having one of those days because I'm congested and couldn't wash my hair upside-down... we'll see how it looks when I SOTC
I use finger coiling here and there after I've scrunched my product in.. I use it on the ones that aren't waving up enough
😀 So glad you liked it!
Love you
I admire you making an attempt at this. I would not have the patience.
Works best with a gel with some hold on looser curls. At least for me, without gel can’t get finger curling to work. My hair is fine, high porosity like yours, but perhaps just a slight more curl to it.
Also, Mel has a video with using a denman brush which works much quicker. Still the the gel for hold though.
My hat is off to you. I tried doing those tiny sections and gave up after about five "rolls".
I only finger coil one section of my hair occasionally because I have a deeper side part- with my heavy hair it makes my waves fall flat so doing that one section brings back my waves.
You, Mel & my stylist are my curly superheros!
😃 That makes me so happy! ❤
Under layer works great then my top layer never gets as curly :(
No no, I needed this. I needed to see struggle cause dang, when I do it and it didn’t always behave I felt so upset at my hair and self
I’ve tried finger coiling and it made my hair STRAIGHT. I really feel that for you, there’s not much of a difference between your normal routine and this routine. Finger coiling is just not worth the time and effort for the minimal results wavies get.
I just did finger coiling and it made mine straight too.
My guess is this may happen if we accidentally coil against the curl. Then we end up canceling out the curl loool
Thank you Courtney!! I've learned so much from you so please keep making amazing videos 😀 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
My hair used to be straight (and poofy + a crap ton of frizz) until I switched from hot water + blow-dried to cold water + air dry when washing my hair. 😂 Its now 2a in the front with slightly straighter pieces in the back! I love your content and it has inspired me to start treating my hair right ❤️
It’s still suuuuuper frizzy, so I don’t know where to go from here 🤷🏻♀️😕
From what I've seen in Mel's videos it's about definition and consistency not making your hair curlier, and I think it worked pretty well >=)
