Honestly? no. Eclipse is better than Atom for writing Java, just for the IDE functionality.
The best Java editor is, without question, IntelliJ Idea. Beyond that, Eclipse. And beyond Eclipse, probably Emacs with meghanada

This is how programming should be taught, in a fun and entertaining way.
The programming classes at my high school absolutely sucked. I literally learnt nothing all year because we spent weeks upon end, writing out one small chunk of boring code that did next to nothing.
If they had been how Boris is teaching, where you tackle a few functions in the one, actually functional program, I would actually know stuff about coding.

@@TheFatDemon brainfuck is not that difficult compared to most other esolangs (despite its name). In honesty, it is similar to a barebones assembly language. subleq and mov are both turing complete and 1 command. I know a lot of people that use brainfuck as a temporary backend for compilers in development. Some people can write brainfuck just as well as assembly. I know a person who has been using brainfuck for fun for >25 years. esolangs that use non-determinism or encryption like malbolge are much more difficult than brainfuck. brainfuck is essentially just a turing machine. It even came from a research paper on how to build a turing machine as a minimal programming language.
brainfuck's really just a puzzle. looks fucked up but not really. Haskell on the other hand is like crafting an automated assembly line that will make a new set of jigsaw puzzle pieces for you every single time.
I've got a permanent head injury because of haskell. The name itself makes me cringe.

I've learned more Java in this video than an entire year of college.
For anyone wondering if this is an exaggeration: Unfortunately, No.
Formal programming courses in schools are shit. It's not uncommon for 1 weekend at home to teach you more then about 1 year in school.
Going for the lowest common denominator approach just makes you slower then teaching one after another. No matter the classroom size.
Because you can still just teach 1 or 2 at a time but just slow down everyone else.

Brainfuck: Let me introduce myself
BF is indeed simpler than java given it only has 8 instructions (moving through the tape, add/ subtract values from current position in tape, reading/printing the value in the cell, and loop control). Obviously, understandable doesn't mean simpler, but if you can think like a machine and trace the steps in BF, you'll realize it's a waste of time because there are better ways to get to the same point in other languages. There is an optimizing BF compiler written in rust if you're interested (bfc IIRC).
