Your mind has been expanded to their level of talent. The Album 'Check Your Head' (1992) is where they brought their hip-hop and live instrument skills together in what I think is their most solid and consistent record ever.
They started out as a punk band and when hip hop turned their heads, they fell in love and never turned back. Their punk roots show hard in this gem. So yeah, they play their own instruments and have a strong musical background. A strong core and knowing the basics will help you in any genre. Also, check out their live set at Glasgow if you ever get the chance. For yourself, not even for your channel. You'll see them at their best playing a full set without a break.

They come from punk music, so at least 2 of them have played instruments. And there are about 20 years in between. On 'Paul's Boutique' their love of experimenting with instruments was already pretty obvious, and on the album 'Check your Head' you can't miss it anymore, as there are a lot of instrumental parts and they don't claim to be perfect, it's obvious that they played a lot of the instruments themselves and assembled them beautifully into tracks. I graduated in 94....I remember this performance. Amazing job
This was the peak year when the mainstream was at its least predictable. So much great music came out in ‘94.
I was 22 when this came out. Love the Beasties! RIP Adam.
Finally, thank you for this. Found this at 40 and finally became a fan. I just didn't get them, unitl I realized they play the instruments. Hip hop jam band!
This is the REAL DEAL HOLYFIELD 🔥🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘🤘 Chills
I remember seeing this when it aired....the 90s, good times.
I was born in 1973......I grew up right along side hip hop.....IMHO the Beastie Boys are the OG's and GOATS 🐐 of hip hop.
Live music, played life, authentically, is like an athletic performance.
Such an amazing tune. And this live performance is truly incredible.
