Yes, Sam is correct the song is about accepting death when it comes, all things end, something people rarely think about until later in life. Buck Dharma - lead guitarist, wrote most the lyric as a teenager, his grandmother (who he was very close to) passed away. His father told him she's not suffering anymore and she's with grandpa now.
I was 12 when this was released and I believe I grew up in the best period of modern music. My parents were rocking the legends of 50's and 60's along with the rise and fall of disco while I was listening to groups like this and floyd, zeppelin etc. Thanks for the reaction. Godzilla!

No it's not, its just there only other big radio hit. Great song but there 80's crossover. Godzilla & Cities on Flame 🔥 are essential before Burning For You.
This is the theme song to the 4 part mini series adapted from Stephen King's "The Stand". It's about a "virus" that gets loose from a military base & kills the majority of the world's population & the "adventures" of varied Americans that survived. It was the first King novel i ever read & still my favorite. When i read it the first time in the 70's i found the subject matter somewhat disturbing but now it seems like it was prophetic. This song fits it perfectly.
I cannot even tell you how many times I have watched that series. LOL. It's my all time favorite!! I never bothered with the new version. I'm all about the 1994 version. The cast. the music, and the storyline is eerily familiar to recent events. wink wink. It feels like it was way ahead of its time as far as story telling. Love Love Love it!!
Every time I hear this song it makes me think of Stephen King's "THE STAND" (1994) Mini Series. It was an INCREDIBLE movie with a Huge Cast!! I think everybody should see it!! It's my all time favorite!!
I've had the pleasure of seeing them live twice. My favorite BOC song and always will be. The beginning of Stephen King's "The Stand" (1994 and best version) features this as the opening track. Some folks back when this was on the radio every day thought it was encouraging suicide but deep down it's a love song. "The love of two is one". Another band with this kind of vibe and depth you need to check out if you haven't already is Kansas. Fun fact: Before they were Blue Oyster Cult, they were The Great White Underbelly.
Ah, such good memories. I'm glad to see you guys introduced to an often forgotten legendary band. Whether it was Buck Dharma or Eric Bloom on vocals you'd always get your money's worth. If you guys want to hear a really interesting song you should checkout Veterans of the Psychic Wars. It was written by Eric Bloom and Michael Moorcock, the author of The legendary Elric fantasy novel series, and it's a definite banger. They had quite a few good songs, Godzilla, Burning for You, Don't Fear The Reaper, Fire of Unknown Origin, The Revenge of Vera Gemini, Heavy Metal: The Black and Silver and Harvest Moon are all great tunes and the sort of music you'll never forget after hearing them just once.
This is one of three huge radio hits for BOC ("Godzilla" and "Burnin' for You" being the other two--although they had quite a few other singles), but they have a ton of songs even better. I'll cast votes for "Deadline," "I Love the Night," and "The Golden Age of Leather"!
I find this song oddly comforting, along with being a good Halloween song and not many songs can say that. My favorite Twilight Zone episode Nothing in the Dark has the same theme so no wonder I like this song.
Classic! Lots of ways to think about this and that is the beauty of it. This song was so engaging to so many people that were inyo so many different genres of music. This was their biggest hit but Godzilla is really amazing.
BOC is still touring. I just saw them this last summer. I first saw them in 1977. Overall seen them about 3 or 4 times in concert. Amazing show every time! Cities On Flame, 7 Screaming Dizbusters, and ETI are really great songs. Get the Live Album "On Your Feet or On Your Knees". Everything on that album is excellent. A must though is "Then Came the Last Days of May".
Yes! And some of their new music is really awesome. And one of the players also is in The Band Geeks and playing with Jon Anderson recreating Yes music and doing new music with him on his new album.
Saw them live in Glasgow in 2018 (I think) with my wife. She has a thing for Robin Zander of Cheap Trick who we also saw in Glasgow they were both brilliant.
Need to check out Take Me Away, Fire Of Unknown Origin, Burning For You, Veteran Of The Psychic Wars, Joan Crawford. Have to say the reaction on your faces during the change in the guitar solo at the bridge was priceless. Didn't expect that change up. Back in the 70's they weren't played on mainstream radio, they were on the album oriented rock stations that were more free form style where the DJ picked the music not a list from management.
Thank you for finally reacting to BOC (Soft White Underbelly) their name when they would play at small club venues at the height of their popularity. Of course, I recommend all the songs that other people have suggested in this segment, but my absolute favorite is "I Love the Night" I think it really represents them. You will not me disappointed.
This album was released one week before I graduated from high school in 1976. Bought it immediately and played this song over and over. Still nothing like cruising around town as a teen late at night and hearing this played on the FM radio. Surreal.
I think I first heard this in the mid 80's and I had to run out and buy this album!! Of course the SHAZAM APP didn't exist back then (lol), I spent days asking people and calling Radio DJ's to find out who did this song. I was hooked the first time hearing Don't Fear the Reaper!! I Love this Song!!! Oh and as others have said, it's the appropriate song for Stephen King's "The Stand"!!
"Burning for You" is my second favorite from these guys. Great reaction, kiddos.
"Burning For You" is so cool!
It's your second favorite because that's there only other big radio hit. It's a great track no doubt but so many earlier gems.

But why did they name the producer “Bruce Dickinson”, when Bruce Dickinson is the singer for Iron Maiden?
Burning For You got me homesick when I was in the army.
A favorite of mine as well ever since I first read it at age 12.
But for me, The Gunslinger is my number 1.
Veteran Of The Psychic Wars live is a must!
Extra Terrestrial Intelligence! Great Buck Dharma performance!
Also, they released a Live album called Some Enchanted Evening. All bangers
So was ETL live, and On Your Feet
Love watching, keep it up!
the best kind of halloween song. huge, eerie power.
One Of My All Time Favorite Songs,Nice Reactions Everyone 😊
You will never go wrong with B.O.C.
#hangovergang forever 🤙🏽
I was a junior in high school when this song came out.
I’m older now.
Burnin for you is also outstanding.
One of the best songs ever! Supercool and fire! I LOVE BÖC!
Saw them live in Glasgow in 2018 (I think) with my wife. She has a thing for Robin Zander of Cheap Trick who we also saw in Glasgow they were both brilliant.
Godzilla and Burning For You are both great ones by them, and the SNL skit mentioned in the comments is amazing. Love the channel and the reaction.
Awesome! Thank you!
Yes the opening scene in the stand!
That's hilarious that your playlists are a lot different now than they once were. It cracks me up, but it also makes me feel good. ❤
E.T.I. is another great song from this album.
Great reaction guys but...your video needs more "Cowbell." 🐄🔔
Iykyk 😂
Need to check out Take Me Away, Fire Of Unknown Origin, Burning For You, Veteran Of The Psychic Wars, Joan Crawford.
Have to say the reaction on your faces during the change in the guitar solo at the bridge was priceless. Didn't expect that change up.
Back in the 70's they weren't played on mainstream radio, they were on the album oriented rock stations that were more free form style where the DJ picked the music not a list from management.
...Burning for you...its fire🔥
This is on a short list for me of obsessed from 1st listen. In 1976 I was 10 and it's the year I lost my dad.
This gets a little play in the original 1978 film Halloween with Jamie Lee Curtis. Great song
This song in the 1994 miniseries "The Stand" was totally creepy and set the mood perfectly.
Also at end of the Frighteners movie
Agents of Fortune rocks all the way through. Favorite song is Vera Gemini
Patti Smith lending a little help on that tune. So good!
Morning Final is very good.
i saw these guys live 20 years apart and they were both great!
BOC has a deep catalog of great songs. Besides those mentioned below I'd add, Astronomy, I Love the Night, Nosferatu, The Vigil, Subhuman, ...
Excellent choices!
One of my favorite songs of all time
This song is a classic, very good choice.
So many good rock songs back in the 70's
Always reminds me of The Stand.
One of the best 70's and 80's bands. Every time i've seen them, they were fantastic. ❤👍🤘
A masterpiece of musical composition as you found out!
A masterpiece of a song.
Shame that so many can only associate it with a TV sketch
Not only. I knew and loved this song way before I knew there was a SNL skit. That skit has breathed new life into this song.
I associate it with an episode of Six Feet Under
This album was released one week before I graduated from high school in 1976. Bought it immediately and played this song over and over. Still nothing like cruising around town as a teen late at night and hearing this played on the FM radio. Surreal.
If you've ever seen Stephen King's "The Stand" this song is in the beginning.
Always a favorite.
Dark, but very peaceful song. Iconic and was used in the original Halloween 1978 Movie.
blue oyster cult truly shines when you listen to them live, Last day of may is a amazing track that has one of the best live solos you will ever hear
