Sabbath is widely recognized as the 1st Heavy Metal Band. That is the "Cadence" you are hearing, the Driving, Racing Heartbeat that draws you into the feeling. It can be very emotional.
I agree that Sabbath added a new darkness to hard rock with the heavier bass riffs and Iommi's distorted tones. That sound is the foundation that created modern heavy metal, but I really think you should consider Deep Purple as the first major label band to get into harder rock leading to what we now refer to as heavy metal. Ritchie Blackmore's guitar work and speed is probably the first venture into harder rock. Not to take away anything from Sabbath, they were truly groundbreaking, but Ritchie Blackmore's style lead to this.
@@jamescunningham1775 It is true that Deep Purple came first chronologically, and they are certainly among the earliest Heavy Metal Bands. The argument for Black Sabbath comes from them becoming truly Famous earlier due to their first Albums success, while Deep Purple's first 3 Albums were relatively unknown.
Fairies wear Boots, The Wizard, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Snow Blind, N.I.B., Children of the Grave and so many more. The changes in the music is crazy good. First metal band ever... IMO.

I was born in 1964, grew up with the Best of the Best in music, but I hereby confess that it was Ren and The Big Push's cover of War Pigs that made me a Black Sabbath fan!! I LOVED Ozzy's Crazy Train album, but avoided Black Sabbath because I thought they were "evil". I truly am blown away by Ren and his ability to introduce "new" music to me in all genres! And I TRULY LOVE your reaction channel and your reactions!! Sooner or later I'll catch up on all if them.
Black Sabbath are considered one of the forerunners of heavy metal music. An interesting fact is that the lead guitarist, Tony Iommi, lost the tips of a few of his fret hand fingers on his last day at his old job after Black Sabbath got their first record contract. This led to him tuning his guitar down so that the strings weren't as tight and thus easier for him to play, which resulted in the unique sound that inspired the heavy metal genre's sound.
he actually made glass prosthetics for his fingers so that he could continue playing guitar, which caused him to press down harder, helping create his unique sound.
Always pay attention when working with machinery. zoning out is one of the most dangerous things to do in manufacturing. At a plastic mold injection plant I was working at someone wasn't paying attention as the molds were losing and his arm/hand turned into a waffle as two 50lbs+ molds slammed back together... then the 500 degree plastic came along. Also always use a sharp knife. I sliced my knuckle because a dull knife jumped and got me
You wouldve had to lived in 1970 to understand how badly this music totally freaked out the older generations. As teenagers, we loved that effect as much as the music!
I have much respect for anyone that has an open mind and is not afraid to venture into new things !!! I have always thought it strange how fear of being different stops so many from finding something that they could relate to!!
Yes, Yes, Yes! Keep exploring the Black Sabbath catalog. They are the original metal band, and the best, as far as I'm concerned! Songs like War Pigs, Fairies Wear Boots, Sweet Leaf, Planet Caravan. Their catalog is deep. I esp love their drummer, Bill Ward. He is a beast on the drums.
The song is simple, dynamic, energetic but actually sad and depressing in itself. One of the anthems of heavy metal. The quality wasn't best back then but it's a milestone in metal history.
The bassist Geezer Butler was the lyricist on most all of the early Sabbath records. Ozzy did an excellent job at coming up with the melodies for the music.
Yeah, like you I’ve struggled with depression, in my case, most of my life… but Black Sabbath, and metal music in general has saved, not only my mind, but my life…
The progression of this band through their first six albums is nothing short of amazing. They blew away everyone on tour in those early years. A bunch of lunatics laying down crunchy , loud rock. They also launched a million bands and had influence on rock music to this day.
He was thrown a bat from the audience. He thought it was rubber til he bit it. He was As shocked as we were. I love their song "snowblind," Great sleeping music. War pigs are so true.
I was born and bred in Birmingham, England NOT Alabama.....and when I was a kid back in the late 60's ,we we almost considered outcasts and demonised for having long hair and basically rocking out....Black Sabbath actually changed the music scene massively and paved the way for a whole generation of future bands.....your reaction was fantastic.....it reminded me of my reaction 50 odd years ago. You have to check out Snowblind.
Original founders of Heavy Metal. I love the song Planet Caravan because it shows they can do a slower song with a mellow sound and make it musically intriguing. It is nice to know the young men today are enjoying the music of the past.
Father's of metal . One of the first albums I bought with my own hard earned money from a paper route . Paranoid ! Even the neighbors learned to like Sabbath.✌️

Untouchable... Ozzy and the guys brought me out of a dark place! I was born in 74, and all my family was into country music! I love country, rap, and all kinds but metal it is for me... thank You, Sir!
BAM! How wild you just dropped my favorite Sabbath song which was really hard for me to even finally realize myself, and on too of that it’s super obscure as I rarely ever see anyone even suggest it! Kudos on such a great call! 😎👍
One of the most amazing things about this song is that it was only intended to be a 'filler' to finish the last 3 minutes or so on the album. So Tony iommi, the guitarist, came up with the riff almost instantly, Ozzy hummed out a melody, and geezer Butler, the bassist, wrote the lyrics. They did all this in a span of an hour, laid down the track, RIGHT THERE IN THE STUDIO. It turned out to be their most popular song and the only single to chart. So to potential songwriters: don't overthink everything, just play. Another group that did a similar thing was Led Zeppelin, they created the song 'rock and roll' exactly the same way, but with Bonham initiating the drum beat
@@bikeman1x11 Hippie Crap? I definitely don't like all of their songs, but man... I mean Bikeman: May you be tied to a chair, and forced to listen to NEVER SAY DIE (song) at 120 db!
Ozzy came from the hard side of Birmingham ,England and a very poor family in a old industrial town and took it's toll on his mental outlook I can assume as well as the rest of the band who grew up there . .. I recommend NEVER SAY DIE ,it was Ozzy's last year with Black Sabbath in 1979 and it is about hanging on when you don't want to . The title says it all and the whole album same title is great as well .
Black Sabbath were formed in the England during the late 60s, they came from the industrial midlands of England of Britains second largest city of Birmingham .They were the credited with the birth of heavy metal.
Black Sabbath is an extremely deep well filled with joy and ecstasy and truth and rhythmic and lyrical supremacy. War Pigs. Hand of Doom. Fairies wear boots. N.I.B. I could go on. Just enjoy the ride. ❤️
Love your in-depth comments, even when rendered semi-speechless. Gotta love Sabbath! It's amazing how they rocked so hard while backing one another the whole time. Hearing Geezer's bass riffing along with the drums is pure bliss! Please react to "Into the Void," early Sabbath's showcase adrenalin crusher. You won't regret it. @poloreacts
black Sabbath literally invented heavy metal!! that sound for 1970 was like a breakthrough for hard rock / heavy metal ! tony iommis guitar playing was incredible so so heavy for its time
Re the Bat Biting incident. It was real. At a show a fan threw a real dead bat onto the stage. Ozzy thought is was a rubber prop bat, so he bit it's head off in true Rock and Roll fashion. Then he found out it was real. He wound up having to get a full series of rabies shots, and he was not very happy about it. But he lived. Bassist Geezer Butler wrote most of Black Sabbath's lyrics, and riff master Guitarist Tony Iommi and Drummer Bill Ward helped him figure out the rest of the songs. One of the true legendary band in Rock history.
The Grandfather of Metal! Ozzy, & Black Sabbath, brought us a whole new & exciting genre of hard rock/heavy metal Masterpieces!! 🙃 Enjoy the ride, it's fantastic in every way! Outstanding lyrics & vocals, unforgettable amazing drums & bass lines, & unmistakable timeless guitar riffs!! 🎉❤ I'm so blessed, to have grown up with the best music everrrr!! 😁
They've also done some excellent songs about drugs. 'Sweet Leaf' is about weed and damn near a ringing endorsement that everyone should try it. And then there's 'Hand of Doom' about heroin. Just check the lyrics out to see what their stance is on it. And the music is just fantastic.
I know this is from 3 weeks ago but what I have noticed as I age and go through my music Journey and alsp beiing a person open to try music is that as I go through life music makes sense to me in different ways. Maybe year's ago you could have heard this song and didn't like it. When I was a teen I loved Nirvana and I still like the songs but they don't hit like they did when I was 16.
This song makes me think of my son who is on the spectrum and also battles depression. I’m so happy he’s doing better, but I’ll never stop worrying about him
Heard in quite a few docs that bands did NOT want to follow Black Sabbath on stage. The crowd were blown away and their performances were hard to top. Ozzy had such great rapport with the crowd too.
I saw this band live at the British National Jazz and Blues Festival in 1970. It was just so different, awesomely different, even in a line up of bands that included Deep Purple and Taste, along with many others from pop, rock and even folk music. Still remember that performance today, 53 years on!
I’m glad to see younger people enjoy groups of the sixties and seventies! These people were true artists-no computers to help voices or instruments sound better or different. It’s great that you listen to the lyrics closely to hear what they are saying! Amazing!
Black Sabbath has been my favorite band since I was a little kid in the late 80s. I've seen Ozzy 6 times, 4 of them with Black Sabbath, and they were always amazing. Check out Solitude to continue down the mental health and depression route, but also check out Children of the Grave... that one is my personal favorite. Really, you can't go wrong with any Sabbath, but especially the stuff with Ozzy ;)
I would love to see you react to Black Sabbath’s “ Iron Man ‘ with Ozzy singing. 1 absolutely loved your reaction to this song !! When you started to move your head to the music I was saying “ you got it !” You we’re almost head banging lol
A lot of fantastic lyrics from Black Sabbath. Their bassist Geezer Butler wrote most of them till Ronnie James Dio joined the band, though I think Ozzy penned this one. Best anti war song ever is 'War Pigs' and I strongly recommend the 1970 Live In Paris version. Incidentally, 'Hand Of Doom' from the same concert has to be about the greatest anti drugs song ever written........up there with 'Master Of Puppets' which I think you've reacted to. I hope you keep going with this type of music. Cheers
I would recommend the studio versions of both as well. Mostly because the studio version of War Pigs is a finished song. The 1970 live version has a lot of different and missing lyrics.
@@brianphillips8228 If it's the one I saw, it is because the song was originally called Walpurgis. Same melody, totally different lyrics. Doesn't matter...both versions are excellent.
@@brianphillips8228 Yeah, you're right, should definitely do them both. The live version has Ozzy mixing up the lyrics a bit but the power of the song still comes across. Be good if he compared both.
I saw Sabbath at the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington, London , just up the road from where I was born and spent most of my life. They were superb and Ozzy was drop dead gorgeous ❤
I think the depression side of the song is interesting. I've always thought it was closer to schizophrenia, but I love seeing and hearing other people's point of view. Music is beautiful in that way, where we all turn the song into something relatable and beautiful
That was a common perception of the song. I wonder if it's because schizophrenia was more recognized in society sooner than a fuller understanding of depression was.
Ozzy is so darn amazing for a vocal performances!! This is why the song is so important. We’re all aware that Ozzy has suffered greatly in past & admits to everyone. I’m sorry you have not been able to enjoy the music of Black Sabbath & Ozzy on his own with his own band!!! I love Ozzy and I always will!!! Even now when he’s unable to tour he’s still churning great music & songs only he can sing w his unique 1 of a kind Voice!!!❤❤❤❤❤

Sabbath is widely recognized as the 1st Heavy Metal Band. That is the "Cadence" you are hearing, the Driving, Racing Heartbeat that draws you into the feeling. It can be very emotional.
Agreed
Except that no one used to call it "Metal". It was Heavy Rock. Not Hard Rock, but heavy . Black Sab was the start of something new.
@@chazwyman8951 Of course. We know what he meant though.
IMO.
This is a great list for anyone looking to get into Sabbath! Sweet Leaf is great too but speaker/headphones warning for the cough at the beginning.

Yeah man. Megalomania is great track off sabotage.

Speaking of Changes, that's a great ballad.
First of all, thank you for sharing that personal bit about the depression! Second, don’t apologize for stopping and commenting on the song. We have all heard it and remember our first time hearing songs like this. It is so awesome to watch someone for their first time and reflect on what’s awesome about the song. Third, your reactions are awesome and make me smile…keep it up 😊
I was born in 1964, grew up with the Best of the Best in music, but I hereby confess that it was Ren and The Big Push's cover of War Pigs that made me a Black Sabbath fan!!
No autotune, just talent !
Ozzy would have benefited from auto tune lol

I sliced my knuckle because a dull knife jumped and got me
BULL! He lost his whole arm and plays guitar with his toes.
You wouldve had to lived in 1970 to understand how badly this music totally freaked out the older generations. As teenagers, we loved that effect as much as the music!
I was 20's then. Some of the best drug music around.
Been a sabbath fan since 79. Tony and geezer write lyrics
Hang in there Polo you seem like a really chill dude. I love your channel you play oldies but goodies.
So iconic!! I am a 51 year old gma and have seen Ozzy in concert 7 times!! What an amazing singer and performer!! Great reaction!!🤘🤘🤘🤘
I love seeing Ozzy in concert. I was 12 the first time I snuck out to see him.
Black sabbath are great. My parents listened to them,I listened to them now my oldest son listens to them. Good music doesn’t outdated
A much deeper band than people gave them credit for.
The bassist Geezer Butler was the lyricist on most all of the early Sabbath records. Ozzy did an excellent job at coming up with the melodies for the music.
We need to bring back this music. Always a message in the lyrics. Good stuff!
You have to realize that back in the 70's there was little of the technology we have today. Artists had to have real musical talent.
I have two words for you, The Ramones.

I love their song "snowblind,"
Great sleeping music.
Bill ward is a legendary drummer, he's in the top 5
Mental health support for all of us teenagers in the 70's. We were tough enough to call that a blessing.
Father's of metal . One of the first albums I bought with my own hard earned money from a paper route . Paranoid ! Even the neighbors learned to like Sabbath.✌️

HaHa, close, first album I ever bought from paper round money was Sabbath bloody Sabbath. Still rate as one of the best albums of all time.

This band started the Heavy Metal sound. I was a senior in high school in 1970. So much awesomeness at that time!

Ozzy and the guys brought me out of a dark place! I was born in 74, and all my family was into country music! I love country, rap, and all kinds but metal it is for me... thank You, Sir!
A National Acrobat is a hugely underrated track from Sabbath. It's about conception and reincarnation, really cool song
BAM! How wild you just dropped my favorite Sabbath song which was really hard for me to even finally realize myself, and on too of that it’s super obscure as I rarely ever see anyone even suggest it!
Kudos on such a great call! 😎👍
National Acrobat has one of the sickest jam/groove parts in rock history.

I had every black sabbath album. My mom thought I was going to hell. I'm glad 😢to see the younger generation enjoying their great music
Black Sabbath is legendary! Always loved them.
Only song to chart in the UK. In the US Iron Man was the highest charter (and not top 40).

I loved it when he told his kids "No fookin cussing at the dinner table" on the tv show.
With black sabbath, it was the music and how hot Ozzy was back in the day. Sabbath went hard and that's all gen X lived for. 💪
Both singers are legends in there own right, i have seen both in concert, and they didn't disappoint.
They had more than 2 great singers, try the Tony Martin albums you might be surprised.
My dad bought this album for me when he came back from Viet Nam for the second time. He was a country western fan until he heard this
Black Sabbath were formed in the England during the late 60s, they came from the industrial midlands of England of Britains second largest city of Birmingham .They were the credited with the birth of heavy metal.
Black Sabbath is an extremely deep well filled with joy and ecstasy and truth and rhythmic and lyrical supremacy. War Pigs. Hand of Doom. Fairies wear boots. N.I.B. I could go on. Just enjoy the ride. ❤️
Hand of Doom is pure 🔥🔥🔥

Love your in-depth comments, even when rendered semi-speechless. Gotta love Sabbath! It's amazing how they rocked so hard while backing one another the whole time. Hearing Geezer's bass riffing along with the drums is pure bliss! Please react to "Into the Void," early Sabbath's showcase adrenalin crusher. You won't regret it. @poloreacts
black Sabbath literally invented heavy metal!! that sound for 1970 was like a breakthrough for hard rock / heavy metal ! tony iommis guitar playing was incredible so so heavy for its time
Sir Lord Baltimore of NY City
His wooden thumb is who we have to thank.
"Music that will help you get through something, if you're going through something "
Perfectly said.
So true

They've also done some excellent songs about drugs. 'Sweet Leaf' is about weed and damn near a ringing endorsement that everyone should try it.
And then there's 'Hand of Doom' about heroin. Just check the lyrics out to see what their stance is on it. And the music is just fantastic.
Without seeing your reactions yet, This song is also very relevant to todays world as it was back when he wrote it.
I know this is from 3 weeks ago but what I have noticed as I age and go through my music Journey and alsp beiing a person open to try music is that as I go through life music makes sense to me in different ways. The fathers of Metal, Ozzy, Tony, Geezer and Bill. Black Sabbath forever, because legends don't die!
Exactly what I say
I perform these tunes (paranoid, war pigs, and heaven and hell) often with a great singer and it's magical to me.
As an old man who has listened to Sabbath and Ozzie for a long time I have to say I appreciate you taking in the tunes that helped me survive the 70s.
This song makes me think of my son who is on the spectrum and also battles depression. I’m so happy he’s doing better, but I’ll never stop worrying about him
John Osborne “Ozzy” is The Godfather of Heavy metal. Nobody compares to this man’s talent
The tempo and guitar attack are relentless and punk before punk was a thing. Very unique for the time and awesome still!
Ahhh, the song that made me fall in love with the heavy rock (metal) genre back in 1970!
Sabbath and AC DC and daddy cool played at a festival here in Australia, back in the 70s, what an unforgettable day!!!!
These lyrics are very powerful and hit home for a lot of listeners.
Heard in quite a few docs that bands did NOT want to follow Black Sabbath on stage.
The crowd were blown away and their performances were hard to top. Ozzy had such great rapport with the crowd too.
It’s never too late to try out Black Sabbath, however the majority of the lyrics were written by geezer Butler the bass player
I saw this band live at the British National Jazz and Blues Festival in 1970. It was just so different, awesomely different, even in a line up of bands that included Deep Purple and Taste, along with many others from pop, rock and even folk music. Still remember that performance today, 53 years on!
The OG's of metal. The architects of heavy. The Godfathers of Metal.
Live version 1970 Paris greatest song you will hear studio version is not even close does't have the same passion or intensity.
@@brianphillips8228 If it's the one I saw, it is because the song was originally called Walpurgis. Same melody, totally different lyrics. Doesn't matter...both versions are excellent.

Not creepy, it was up against freaking Neil Sedaka and such.
Black Sabbath is one of the most underrated bands of all time. They are the godfathers of metal.
I saw Sabbath in 72 as a 12 year old kid in Miami. They were so different and that's why they caught on so big in the 70's
