This is when they got their own studio in Los Angeles. A decade earlier, their studio was the set for the tv sitcom, BARNEY MILLER. They kept the same rooms, and jail cells and just put their equipment into the offices.
I am so proud of you! I want to start a channel, but I just usually moderate. One man pays me(shhhh!) Because I've been with him for 6 years, I was the first mod, and was until he got to 200K, then he had me interview people to moderate! Idk if you have ever heard of Overlord DVD (Doomcock), he does pop-culture and sci-fi content. I also mod for a woman about dating issues and some of the OF girls on! Eek! 304's! Lol! 😂 When you listen tmeo TOOL, A Perfect Circle, or Puscifer, I just melt... The way you enjoy them like I do, but since I was in 10th grade!!! You will love all the bands you listened!! I feel blessed to have an honest, sweetie, guy! ❤🙏🏻🌹
Yea it's hard to say they have a 'best album', but that's their best album, at least till I listen to a song from a different one, then that's the best album 😊
This album was way ahead of its time. They used a lot of samples and citied them all in the liner notes of their albums. What makes them special is they would play their own instruments on some tracks and they sampled themselves
I _love_ the visual metaphors in this video; right at the start, we see a surfer guy. He's catching a cool wave, nothing too crazy. Then the camera goes underwater for a second, and then it cuts to the Beastie Boys themselves doing their rhymes; and the footage of the Boys has a pronounced *RED* filter. A _blood-red_ filter, when in the last scene we were going underwater. Almost like there's blood in the water. And then there's the skateboarding guys. At first, the footage is just them doing their tricks, nothing overly menacing. Then it cuts to a cat running away from a camera. Which is a pretty funny scene, but they actually kept a circular lens-thing (I don't know the actual terminology, I'm sorry) over the footage, evoking the barrel of a gun. And when the cat looks at the camera, it's almost like it's _looking down the barrel._ After the initial cat scene, whenever we see the skateboarders, there's occasionally that same circular lens. The footage itself is pretty chill, but the mock gun barrel adds an underlying sense of menace to it all. I mean, we've all seen movies and TV and the like, where there's some guy just going about his business, doing his thing; then we see a sniper or other such assassin staring him down. He's in mortal danger, but remains blissfully unaware. Just like the skateboarders who are chilling and doing some tricks. Not to mention the footage of the low-income areas, complete with graffiti and an angry, barking guard dog. Lastly, the first time they drop the "Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun" title, we see the surfer guy again. Only this time, the wave is cresting, and at certain angles, it looks like a long tube - or, a long _barrel._ And just like the first time, shortly after the camera goes underwater, we see the blood-red filter.
This album might be one of the most innovative albums of all time, absolutely out of this world. Paul’s boutique is a must listen from beginning to end.
Dude…. If you want to see actually how talented the Beastie Boys were, you should react to them live from Glasgow. It’s a long video. But it’s so so good! They do a little from every decade they are around. From punk to hip hop to funk, they do it all. They will forever be my favorite group. I saw them in every decade they existed and never one let me down. Never once rapped over their own tracks. Always live. Always the best. Nobody compares. They are a true original. ✌🏻
Pauls Boutique is to the Beastie Boys as Pet Sounds is to the Beach Boys. A vhast departure to something new. Showcasing raw talent in an entirely new direction ahead of its time.
This is one of those tunes from my late teen years. Just testing out my independence and venturing out on weekend roadtrips. Every time I hear it I can smell that old Chevy running down the highway blasting music through a pair of Jensen 6X9s. Tribe Called Quest, left my wallet in El Segundo is a great on for that too. They tell a story that you want to listen to and accent it with a great rhythmic cadence.
Beasties’ greatest strength was variety: 1st 5 albums ALL MASTERPIECES & ALL DIFFERENT. It’s a disservice to any of them (especially Paul’s Boutique!) to listen to just one track. I can’t even imagine hearing this one without context of Egg Man, Sounds Of Science, etc Strongly suggest listen to Paul’s start to finish, true work of art, landmark of sampling & psychedelia & lyrical lunacy, there is nothing like it! And knowing your love of rock, Check Your Head will rock you, they play their own instruments on that one Love your channel ✌️
Polo, man I’ve been a subscriber of yours for a while now and all I can say is that you deserve all of the success you’ve achieved. Keep on doing what you do!
This track definitely combines the Beasties’ history of punk and hip hop. The video is secondary to the song so it’s cool to let that fall to the side. I can’t say I’ve ever even watched their video for this.
They music-the beat the key-so evocative of the actual feeling of looking down the barrel of a real gun-it’s off a bit and freaky (and yeah, I’ve been there). I know the song isn’t exactly about that, but it’s obvious they got that feeling. Love the Beasties!!
This experience was like meeting someone new you were unsure about until a song came on and you saw the same spark in their eye that you feel in your heart! The shared love of music crosses all boundaries!!!
My favorite Beastie Boys track. That 2 seconds of "Mississippi Queen" tho... I found the commentary about the current state of hip-hop always using samples as opposed to that era being fresh and original a bit ironic; Paul's Boutique is frequently credited with ushering in the sample-heavy style that still persists today, though they were themselves building from the times where your success as a musician DJ depended largely on how good a record collection your parents/grandparents had.
Love Beasties! And I think you would absolutely love tracks like: Jimmy James, Shake Your Rump, Pass the Mic, Get It Together, The New Style, Hey Ladies. Just to name a few!! it's rabbit hole time Polo!! lol
Dude hell yeah! My favorite Beastie Boys song!!! "Three on the tree in the middle of the niiiigghht! Got this this steak on my head cause I got into a fist fight!"
Congrats on 200k! I've seen so many reactors reach those numbers and then start getting a little to full of themselves. That's when I bail. Stay humble and you'll keep growing for sure!
Proud to see you grow this channel into something this big. Bigger things to come because you have a good mindset. Visualize it and it will materialize. Hard work helps too and you have that on lock. Haven't even made it to the music yet bro, just happy to see you happy.
Also, a big thanks to the patreon and supporters to this channel from me for sending him several songs I would have asked him to review. My broke ass sent Polo $10 randomly a year ago for a video review, and my broke ass didn't realize I needed a few more bucks😂. Money is right now, I will send a request your way soon sir🫡
So proud of you Polo! I’ve seen the investment that you have put into the chan & into yourself. As a fan of your channel, I definitely see you reaching you goal. Keep up the great work! ❤🌀
I saw an interview with them where they said that Ad- Rock did a guitar solo for this song but they couldn't remember why it was never included in this song.
You gotta get on Paul's Botique. My favorite is Shake Your Rump. Dope video too! Oh and it will bump the hardest in the 4Runner, absolute window rattler...
Just curious if you've heard any "Atmosphere"? If not, I highly recommend it.👍 Good live song to check out is "Not another day". There are a lot of great songs!
Not many people would react to this song I'm curious what you think. This was one of my favorites for a long time. Last line is dope. "Racism is schism on a serious tip." I glad you were feeling this one. Maybe "Car Thief" it's funky
I’ve never been a big fan of sampling , but this song uses it to the next level. Absolute perfection and very compelling aggression in their delivery. As I said, perfection……
other key tracks: sure shot, paul revere, get it together, shadrach, hold it now, root down, intergalactic, whatcha want, brass monkey, open letter to nyc, the whole 1999 live glasgow video, etc., etc.
I know Paul's Boutique like the back of my hand and so glad you reacted to this cut. You'll hear it in the comments but the album is a sample smorgasbord courtesy of the Dust Brothers. 10 out of 10.
Hey I've seen a couple of your Beastie Boys reactions and they seemed honest, reflective and carefully considered. You mentioned in this one about perhaps the best times of music are behind us. So, I have a couple suggestions for you. Especially because you mentioned not having any patience for the Beasties growing up cuz you were into Gangsta rap. These suggestions are well loved & respected by the OGs. Dre, Snoop, Ice Cube, Eazy E, Ice-T, Kendrick KRSone, DMC, ChuckieD & Flav, JayZ etc have all paid homage to the Atomic Dog, the Legendary George Clinton, the genius producer with multiple record contracts with multiple studio/companies simultaneously, for the same group of musicians. Ha! See Parliament were the singers who had a backup band and Funkadelic was a rock band (a REAL, OG, influential rock band in the 70's, no wannabes!) who had backup singers. They just happened to be the same people across both groups hence Parliament-Funkadelic or P-Funk. They were super talented musicians with a lineage back to jazz days & had members from James Brown's band, the JBs: Bootsy & Catfish Collins, including the entire horn section: Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker & the Horny Horns. They had Bernie Worrell who was a classically trained prodigy on keyboards who later was in the Talking Heads (weird!) & is in the concert movie Stop Making Sense. Sly Stone was part of the collective, the singer from The Spinners (Rubberband man! nuff said), Junie from the Ohio Players, and Roger Trautman: Zapp & Roger. His story is fkn wild in & of itself. Legendary drummers, bass players & guitarists across the years, not to mention excellent singers way back to the Doo-wop days when Clinton started the Parliaments. I'm thinking it was 1959. Nineteen fucking Fifty-Nine! The year of the Holy Grail Gibson Les Paul Burst guitars that sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars & have examples in museums now, to put it in perspective. This is history you should know! This post is too damn long so I'm gonna leave a couple song suggestions in the next one immediately to follow.
Good song, great album, I prefer CAR THEIF, SHADRACH, and a couple more of the B-boy bouliabase (soup with mixed ingredients) songs. Check Your head was my favo Beastie album.
yo, bro! I'm happy for you. There is definitely something different about you to other reactors out there. Maybe it's your demeanor, I think it's your authenticity too - there's just something enjoyable about chill about you. Keep it up. I do hope you get to that million subscriber goal one day, and I hope you are still able to keep it real just as you are at this point. peace.
Any hip hop heads know if the rif was sampled or them on their own instruments for this one? I don't recall from the liner notes on the cd. Anyways, Polo, this was one of my favorite tracks off Paul's Boutique. Its like a rap/metal hybrid song but I think they dj'd it vs. with live instruments. I love the bars in it too. Off this particular album, if you want some additional tracks to check out, I'd recommend: High Plains Drifter, 3-Minute Rule, Car Theif, Shadrach. If you want a more pop sounding party song kind of vibe then you have Hey Ladies and Shake Your Rump.

if you have a chance let the whole album (Paul's Boutique) run...I literally wore out a tape in my car back in the day just letting it run

Man.. the whole Paul's Boutique album is absolute 🔥🔥🔥
I listen to that album almost every day on the drive home. Shadrach is sick.
My favourite Beastie's album! Perfection! 💯
Absolutely!
Yea it's hard to say they have a 'best album', but that's their best album, at least till I listen to a song from a different one, then that's the best album 😊
The fireiest!
This album was way ahead of its time. They used a lot of samples and citied them all in the liner notes of their albums. What makes them special is they would play their own instruments on some tracks and they sampled themselves
These dudes sampled themselves! Legendary.

This album might be one of the most innovative albums of all time, absolutely out of this world. Paul’s boutique is a must listen from beginning to end.
I played in metal bands for years, and I was always trying to convince one of them that we should have covered this song.
I love Anthrax's cover of it.
Anthrax did one. They didn't spin it, it was just a straight up cover.
Paul’s Boutique, Check Your Head and Ill Communication were the soundtrack’s to my formative years.
R.I.P. Nathanial Hörnblowér 🎧✊🏼
These three PUNK ROCKERS forever changed HIP HOP! ✌️
Yes indeed! Most don't know what they played prior to breaking out in the hip-hop scene.
They are multi-talented Legends.
Dude…. If you want to see actually how talented the Beastie Boys were, you should react to them live from Glasgow. It’s a long video. But it’s so so good! I agree 💯
Great performance. It’s really hard to get into a full live performance on UA-cam but I made it through the whole thing easy.
Pauls Boutique is to the Beastie Boys as Pet Sounds is to the Beach Boys. A vhast departure to something new. Showcasing raw talent in an entirely new direction ahead of its time.

Love your channel ✌️
You got about 20 more legendary tracks to get too. Congrats man been here since low low numbers.. awesome reactions you deserve it
The skating in this video is what had drew me to it in the 90's. Then I started to appreciate the Beasties.
I was a D.C. Hardcore Punk kid back in the '80's but we all grew up on this album as well. 'Sounds of Science' is one of my fav's. Worth a Reaction.
And they played most of the instruments themselves. Paul's Boutique is a masterpiece!
Polo, man I’ve been a subscriber of yours for a while now and all I can say is that you deserve all of the success you’ve achieved. Keep on doing what you do!
The guitar note and drum beat id from Mississippi Queen by Mountain!
This track definitely combines the Beasties’ history of punk and hip hop. The video is secondary to the song so it’s cool to let that fall to the side. I can’t say I’ve ever even watched their video for this.

My favorite Beastie’s cut. Love the Dust Brothers production and how they use the Pink Floyd sample
Mountain
You will have more than a million! I am just one but your energy and vibe is smooth and love to watch your appreciation of all genres!
My buddy had this video on VHS. Played the crap out of it. They released a VHS tape of videos for this album.
Congrats on the 200K!!! I requested this! So cool to see the reaction. Now, for more Zeppelin....
This experience was like meeting someone new you were unsure about until a song came on and you saw the same spark in their eye that you feel in your heart! The shared love of music crosses all boundaries!!!
I love listening to you. First person I have ever watched on video.
My favorite Beastie Boys track. That 2 seconds of "Mississippi Queen" tho... So for the 1989 Paul's Boutique album, the Beastie Boys wrote a gangsta rap song before gangsta rap went mainstream. How cool is that?
Congratulations Polo 🎉🎉 for reaching another goal. Love watching you react to music.
Love Beasties! And I think you would absolutely love tracks like: Jimmy James, Shake Your Rump, Pass the Mic, Get It Together, The New Style, Hey Ladies. Just to name a few!! it's rabbit hole time Polo!! lol
one of my favs by them.. Mississippi Queen riff by Mountain is used
Loving the Beastie Boys reactions! They are legends! Its all about fun with them, and are a encyclopedia of great music that they sample.
My absolute favorite song by them and no one else i know remembers this song lol. I can't believe you're reacting to it.
Dude hell yeah! My favorite Beastie Boys song!!!
"Three on the tree in the middle of the niiiigghht! Got this this steak on my head cause I got into a fist fight!"
When I first heard the song, I thought the lyrics were "stains on my hand", as in he fought so much his hands got bloody
Nice tune to celebrate 200k! Congrats on your milestone!
U the man Polo. I found u from HMack but ive rocked all your reactions. The Tool and other Classic Rock bands you react to is great to watch.
Congrats on 200k! I've seen so many reactors reach those numbers and then start getting a little to full of themselves. That's when I bail. Stay humble and you'll keep growing for sure!
Congratulations! Love your videos so much.
Proud to see you grow this channel into something this big. Bigger things to come because you have a good mindset. Visualize it and it will materialize. Hard work helps too and you have that on lock. Haven't even made it to the music yet bro, just happy to see you happy.

You really need to do "The New Style". That's fire. Decades of hip hop influence in that track alone.
1989! Insane! It became popular after Check Your head dropped in 1992 Paul’s Boutique or Check. Always a classic debate about which is better.
Congratulations!! I know your subscriber numbers are going to continue to grow! I love love love the beastie boys!
So proud of you Polo!
I’ve seen the investment that you have put into the chan & into yourself. As a fan of your channel, I definitely see you reaching you goal. Keep up the great work!
❤🌀
You the man!!!!! Great content.
I saw an interview with them where they said that Ad- Rock did a guitar solo for this song but they couldn't remember why it was never included in this song.
With Mississippi Queen and the Pink Floyd, Time sample.... Fire 🔥 bro
You gotta get on Paul's Botique. My favorite is Shake Your Rump. Dope video too! Oh and it will bump the hardest in the 4Runner, absolute window rattler...
Polo, you deserve to be at 1M subscribers...excellent production value...excellent reviews...
This...this is the groove.
Congratulations. Truly, Polo.
We appreciate you too Polo!
Congratulations on reaching 200K😊
Congrats on 200K
Just curious if you've heard any "Atmosphere"? If not, I highly recommend it.👍 Good live song to check out is "Not another day". There are a lot of great songs!
Check out high plains drifter 🔥💯
Back in the 90's. Skateboarding videos was a big thing. And Beastie Boys was all over it.
"Gratitude" should be your next.
My Brother in Buddha, ya gotta do Shadrach!
Possibly a little biased here, but Shadrach might be the Beastie Boys best song ever. Sampling, lyrics, intro and outro.
All Perfect
Not many people would react to this song I'm curious what you think. This was one of my favorites for a long time. Last line is dope. "Racism is schism on a serious tip." I glad you were feeling this one. Maybe "Car Thief" it's funky
Congratulations dude!!
202K TODAY! All my best, sir.
I’ve never been a big fan of sampling , but this song uses it to the next level. Absolute perfection and very compelling aggression in their delivery. As I said, perfection……
Hadn’t heard that one before - need to listen to more Beastie Boys stat. Great track
Ohhh I've been waiting for this.
Congratulations Polo ! I'm so happy to see you succeeding.
Maybe my favorite Beastie Boys song !!
Your metronome is on point
High Plains Drifter is a great Beastie Boys song.
other key tracks: sure shot, paul revere, get it together, shadrach, hold it now, root down, intergalactic, whatcha want, brass monkey, open letter to nyc, the whole 1999 live glasgow video, etc., etc.
Check out Jimmy James. Has 2-3 Hendrix samples in it. One of my favorite Beastie tracks
Whole album is 🔥. Car Thief should be next.
Love the small sample of Mississippi queen at 3:48
80s and 90s is where it was at and it was good to be there when it all went down...
This deep cut is my favorite.
That sample is from "Mississippi Queen."
Good song, great album, I prefer CAR THEIF, SHADRACH, and a couple more of the B-boy bouliabase (soup with mixed ingredients) songs. Check Your head was my favo Beastie album.
Let's go family, I'm a pirate on cassette.. educate to elevate
4:02
Hey Bruce Willis, you have been getting “props” for decades.
Hang in there!
Helllllloooooooo Brooklyn !!!!!
Keep on going. You’ll get that Million

Beastie Boys have a top ten records sold of all time…all time, look it up, I ll communication
yo, bro! I'm happy for you. There is definitely something different about you to other reactors out there. Maybe it's your demeanor, I think it's your authenticity too - there's just something enjoyable about chill about you. Keep it up. I do hope you get to that million subscriber goal one day, and I hope you are still able to keep it real just as you are at this point. peace.
Here we go!
There’s a UA-cam video showing all the samples used on this album.
Next.....anything from the Paul's Boutique album!!!!
Root Down official video should be next please and thank you!!
Paul's boutique!!❤
Love beastie boys.I. Ever thought I would like anything new but Ren.I grew up with Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Grand Funk railroad
Check out Pass the Mic next! 🔥 😎
There’s something in that there riff by Pink Floyd. The track “Time” from Dark Side of the Moon.
I subbed and liked to help you achieve your goal, and I like your reactions!
You have to watch Paul Revere by Beastie Boys like now!!!
Definitely one of more powerhouse tracks on Paul's Boutique. Almost belongs on Check Your Head, IMO.
They sampled The Incredible Bongo Band for this one. Same record the hip hop break classic Apache sample is from
True Beastie fans know:
When Mike D’s in the house whatcha gonna do?
We like your sense of humor, comments and humility. Keep it coming!! And in this video they're using some music from Pink Floyd...hmmmm.
