I do believe my doctor diagnosed me correctly with SIBO. After treatment, I felt better than I had in over fifteen years and my stomach protruding like I was 9 months went away in one week as did most of my diarrhea and joint pains and severe rectal itching. I don’t care what one might call it, I am just glad to be better!😅. I had been diagnosed with celiac about five years prior to this issue so gluten was not an issue because I avoid it like poison.

I did a low FODMAP myself, which the doctor had not mentioned but I noticed some foods were triggering, such as lettuce. I ate one ingredient items like a meat or cooked vegetable. The Xifaxan was taken for one week, two tablets a day twelve hours apart. The probiotics tablet was taken every day for three months and now every other day for one month, then every three days for…guess to be determined at next appointment.
Yeah antibiotics commonly cause these issues and many others. Antibiotics wipe out EVERYTHING and it isn't good for someone who's already super sick. Definitely not long term, but none of these synthetic drugs are safe long term.

Dr Gundry, I respectfully disagree with you on some points. I was given IBS (or sibo, nobody knows) from excessive (typical) antibiotics that can be absorbed into the blood, and the only thing that has helped my pain (besides heat, peppermint capsules, and low fodmap) was Rifaxamin. Rifaxamin is an atypical antibiotic and it really has helped my pain. It has been tested by some of the top researchers in this area like Mark Pimentel. I’m not saying it works for everyone, but it worked really well for me.
There's no doubt that in certain situations antibiotics are needed to help with this condition as it can lead to malabsorbsion which over time really screws you over. Follow your doctors advice first then if antibiotics don't resolve the issue seek alternative treatments....

Please keep in mind that it still makes many people *afraid* when they hear that they have bacteria in their belly and that it is a good thing 😊. About 100 years ago the existence of bacteria was still very new and mostly famous for causing disease! About 1930 antibiotics became famous by the first publications. Wonderful discovery. But unfortunately antibiotics kill many bacteria, unlike our immune system, which has the ability to adapt, learn and specialize! To sum it up: Identify lectin rich foods in our diet and other toxins. Help the gut wall regenerate. Eat foods which create a better gut microbiome. Correct the immune system and repair the damage. Talking like a person who never had sibo. when I get bloated, I wake up depressed, brain fog with cravings and waking up several times per night. I have no idea how it feels to be an alcoholic but this feels very similar.

Cruciferous veggies can cause lots of bloating. I didn't want to cut them out, so I eat a third of a serving at each meal, rather than a whole serving at one meal. Also chewing very slowly and thouroughly and walking after meals helps.
I love Dr. Gundry. However, anecdotally-speaking, I had an overgrowth of gram-negative bacteria migrate in high numbers up into my small intestine & as a result of translocation & dysbiosis, the methane & hydrogen sulfide gas blew a hole thru the lining of my gut. We confirmed this thru low secratory IgA, blood zonulin levels elevated, my toll-like receptors activated 24/7 due to the inflammatory response, as well as having endotoxemia as a result of the gut barrier being permeable. What I’m hoping Dr. Gundry is insinuating is that the microbiome needs to be in balance. And the good bugs that produce short-chain fatty acids like Butyrate, acetate, & propionate need to be in the large intestine in the right ratios so that digestion is optimized & leaky gut/metabolic endotoxemia is prevented. Gasses produced by microbes in the gut in the wrong areas can be & is problematic.
What's most important is that we are eating for two. Yourself and your gut microbiome. It is a symbiotic and host relationship. The more you eat things that help your gut buddies thrive the more in tune and receptive your body will be to maintain its proper functions. So bon appetit everyone.

@@eastcoastsnow The first thing I had to deal with urgently was an increasing asthmatic response to histamine that got so bad that _anything_ I ate triggered an asthma response because histamine is involved in the production of stomach acid. To heal that I started fasting (for obvious reasons) and in about 5-6 months I healed my gut enough to heal that auto-immune disorder. Of course, along with the fasting I ate really clean (omnivorously but without lectins). Then I was dealing with constant bloating that was like I was about to give birth (not the normal bloating everyone experiences). I dealt successfully with that by learning and incorporating Ayurvedic principles which are too in-depth to cover here. The main things that helped were "Ayurvedic food combining" because it urges you to eat only foods that digest at the _same rate_ at the same time. And, eating for my specific digestive constitution (there are a million "dosha" tests online).

Tried strict carnivore for like 4-5month, tried the low fod map, tried a few antibiotics, but still have not had a single day of relief. I beat my bloat. Low formal only worked while I was on it, carnivore only worked while I was on it (only did it for a month, scared to do it longer), gradually building up the fibre foods slowly after carnivore didn't work. Megasporbiotic worked. Probiotics regulated things and eased some of the pain, but the megasporbiotic took the bloat away. After trying every diet.

Yes, I did herbal antibiotics and can now only eat 5 foods, not tolerating smells, parfume, creams, toothpaste, etc anymore. Had some upper abdomen pain before but nothing like this. Ate lot of fiber and lived my life fine. Wished I had seen this before.
I totally know what you're going through. They tell me I have SIBO but when I did the breath test the numbers stayed relatively the same but yet they want me to take xifaxan to treat it. I can only eat about 5 foods also and none are good for you except hard boiled eggs. Can't do dairy. I have such debilitating abdominal pain and nausea. Endoscopy and colonoscopy came back good. I don't know what to think of the medical system anymore. Don't have much faith or trust in them. I think they'd rather see people dead than have to deal with them. You take care of yourself. Sorry but no, low acid doesn't work as an excuse for everyone. Certain D lactic acid strains prefer acid environments which is why we are seeing D lactic acidosis in sibo, small bowel, and even in cases with none of the typical explanations. People are getting sibo that won't test positive on breath tests but when physicians are ordering d lactate and ammonia tests these patients absolutely have sibo. Humans don't make D lactic acid by the way (only bacteria in the gut) so its a tell tale sign but its rarely tested and only one lab in the entire country tests for this so even educated specialists have to send it off. Then there are cases where Bactrim and Doxycycline are causing this dysbiosis to happen in the first place. Thats just 2 antibiotics we know of. Oh and don't forget the patients actually getting this from OTC probiotics. Those lacto strains are overpopulating their gut and again, flooding the patient with D lactate.
Interesting perspective. I have no ileocaecal valve, no ascending colon, & no terminal ileum (secondary to a late diagnosed intussusception). For years post surgery I had severe diarrhoea for a few days every 2-3 wks, which gradually turned into chronic constipation, which has been my norm for years now. I have been offered antibiotics, but refused them. My feeling is they might help for an extremely short time, but given there is no trap door separating my large & small bowel, the effect would be very short lived. Plus I'd mess up the microbiome of the large bowel in the process, which would probably cause other unwanted issues.

I think you need a bit of everything if you come from a dark place. H. Pylori was detected in 1982 already. SIBO findings are definitely an advance. Ask people who added bacteria products to their diet and found their symptoms got worse. You may rather ask: What took them so long?
I was told i have H Pylori after the breath test. I have boating issues and stomach-aches after each meal. My first round of antibiotics failed. I don't want to continue taking level 2 (4 different antibiotics )cos its got side affects. But the doc said H pylori will cause CANCER if left untreated. PLEASE HELP🙏
Carnivore most likely does not heal the problem. If anything, it simply alleviates the symptoms. Speaking anecdotally here. A Paleo diet helped keep symptoms at bay but the issue still remains until it is directly addressed.
hmmmm something doesn't add up here. I became sick as a dog 5 months a go. Lost 12lb. couldn't eat, threw up all the time. Ate like a bird, because my portions couldn't be bigger than that. And after tons of testing the last desperate test was SIBO test, and it was positive. I was skeptical since we had false positives before, including a scary Volvulus (turned stomach) where they wanted to slice me up to fix it. The antibiotic phase for SIBO was a bitch. I will admit it. I just got off of it, but Lord hold and behold... I CAN EAT! (I can still only eat about 1/2 an adult portion but better then the size of 1 cup of food a day...divided into 5 tiny portions. I dont feel like someone is kicking me in the stomach. I still do have the nightly "throw up" feelings but Im told it will eventually go away. Since it is gone from "perpetually" to evenings only. Soooo Dr. Gundry is full of useful general information, but is way off when it comes to clinical application. I believe that there are people who truly have SIBO, and people who are misdiagnosed Im sure. But to just throw everyone into one bag just because he has a theory he wishes to prove is not right. He is putting peoples lives at stake here. I would not wish on anyone, what I have endured for 5.5 months before they figured how to fix me. Any kind of diet (a specially the anti-inflammatory fodmap diet he recommends) would be useless for someone who practically doesn't eat ANYTHING at all. If, and that is a big if I could eat 1/2 4,5oz yogurt for brunch and 1/2 chicken wing with 3tbs of rice it was a good day. And then possibly throw up most of it. (Or not on a good day). Where do you insert the diet? And he wants to fix me with a diet? It got so bad that I would rather not eat so I could avoid the torture of it all. I would stare at my food for an hour trying to force my self to eat 1 more bite. It got to a point where I would cry at dinner time. It just about did my husband in. And Dr. Gundry wants to fix all this with food? He is in TOTAL denial. He has no idea the HELL SIBO truly is. If you have it, you need to see a GI a Gastro specialist and get antibiotics before you get to my point. Or have the specialist figure out what is wrong with you. I have a great respect for Dr Gundry but before you can get someone on a diet you need to first address the immediate problems with antibiotics. Then you need to look for underlying issues and start treating people with dietary changes. ******* Update To answer questions I have been tested positive for both hydrogen & methane bacteria. It has been 4 weeks and my symptoms are back. Not yet bad enough to have been as terrible as before, but bad enough. Even though I have incorporated prebiotic foods. Dr Williams Davis Yogurt, kefir, kimchi and a lot of fiber. I try to do FOODMAP too but it’s new to me yet. And still it’s with all these precautions this “thing” is back driving me crazy.
He also truly believes (11:15) that there are people with Sibo. Which type were you diagnosed with? Antibiotics will take the edge off of really bad symptoms but will never cure true Sibo and could possibly make things worse after you stop taking them.
I tested really high for both hydrogen and methane but was told it’s SIBO. I was treated with 10 days antibiotics. Felt better after for 3weeks. Now I’m slowly getting my symptoms back. @@sabasalih5514 Please remember that the reason for the overgrowth is slowed gut motility that can be caused by many things (beginning stage of Parkinson's disease, autoimmune response to food poisoning bacteria). Adding prebiotics and probiotics makes this condition worse. Eat low fodmap foods. Your focus must be on increasing gut motility anyway you can (magnesium,prokinetics, laxatives, herbs) and not on killing anything. You can't eat because you are probably so backed up from lack of gut motility. After some weeks of daily bowel movements you could start trying to add the other vegetables one at a time to see how they affect you. Hope this helps.
@@BringItOn31124This sounds like it may potentially work. If the motility complex isn't working right, then the bacteria will end up repopulating the small intestine regardless. Also, though, something that may have helped would have been to wait before adding the prebiotics since they most likely are simply feeding the remnant bad bacteria in the small intestine which results in symptoms returning.
Since the small intestine is where food is supposed to be absorbed into our body, it stands to reason we don't want bacteria competing for the available nutrients. THerefore, I fail to see why there would be evolutionary selection for that which makes me think SIBO is a real disease. I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one, Dr. Gundry.

That's an interesting perspective as I have several patients receiving TPN mixtures on a 24 hour/ 7 days a week schedule because they have very little of their intestine left whether it be disease or a car accident etc. I have never had to address any gasses that they may have been missing (as of yet). I can't even find an article regarding the supplementation of hydrogen or any other gasses for my TPN patients (who don't eat).

What I’m hoping Dr. Gundry is insinuating is that the microbiome needs to be in balance. And the good bugs that produce short-chain fatty acids like Butyrate, acetate, & propionate need to be in the large intestine in the right ratios so that digestion is optimized & leaky gut/metabolic endotoxemia is prevented.
Gasses produced by microbes in the gut in the wrong areas can be & is problematic.

Which part of the video made that conclusion for you? I get it, that you found a solution for Your problems, I have no doubt that EM-F and -R are major disruptors. But you think that's the solution for everything? You can eat whatever, but be aware of the magnetic fields? Don't you think both can be true? How is suggesting a diet causes money hunger? I just don't get it.
Also, let's imagine that both helps (they do), what you think what would people choose first? In simple terms: Gundry telling them what to eat and what to avoid (food, not supplements), OR You telling them to buy a "box" for 2.000 dollars, and then they might be safe around that box for a few years? I know it's not that simple, and both helps, but I think you get my pont. It's like someone agrees with physics, but completely ignoring biologics or chemics.
I have been following Gundry for years. Yes, I use Alan Maher's tech for radiation conversion. I use Energy Bits. I stopped eating lectins (prepared correctly). Low sugar, Lucini Organic premium select Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a staple. Etc! And my rate of aging results are .68 per year. So, that is money!!! NO MEAT! Forgot to mention that. OMG, I'm so relieved. *_THANK YOU, DR. GUNDRY!_* I was _sure_ my bloating was due to SIBO with all the hype I fell for. In fact I'm 45 hours into a soft dry fast right now to try to heal my SIBO...which I don't have. Sigh. Oh, well, there are benefits anyway, but man this is extreme.
What are your symptoms and how did you cure yourself?
@@eastcoastsnow The first thing I had to deal with urgently was an increasing asthmatic response to histamine that got so bad that _anything_ I ate triggered an asthma response because histamine is involved in the production of stomach acid.
To heal that I started fasting (for obvious reasons) and in about 5-6 months I healed my gut enough to heal that auto-immune disorder. Of course, along with the fasting I ate really clean (omnivorously but without lectins).
Then I was dealing with constant bloating that was like I was about to give birth (not the normal bloating everyone experiences). I dealt successfully with that by learning and incorporating Ayurvedic principles which are too in-depth to cover here. The main things that helped were "Ayurvedic food combining" because it urges you to eat only foods that digest at the _same rate_ at the same time. And, eating for my specific digestive constitution (there are a million "dosha" tests online).

Tried strict carnivore for like 4-5month, tried the low fod map, tried a few antibiotics, but still have not had a single day of relief. Breath tests say I got an overgrowth but now I’m just more confused as ever. I’ll look into what you said about bloating and see but it’s so unfortunate that no one can figure out the gut. I beat my bloat. Low formal only worked while I was on it, carnivore only worked while I was on it (only did it for a month, scared to do it longer), gradually building up the fibre foods slowly after carnivore didn't work. Megasporbiotic worked. Probiotics regulated things and eased some of the pain, but the megasporbiotic took the bloat away. After trying every diet.
So can you do more videos on this bc I have insane severe gas and bloating, makes me want to kms every single day, but you’re saying it’s normal. I need more explanation

Yes, I did herbal antibiotics and can now only eat 5 foods, not tolerating smells, parfume, creams, toothpaste, etc anymore. Had some upper abdomen pain before but nothing like this. Ate lot of fiber and lived my life fine. Wished I had seen this before.
I totally know what you're going through. They tell me I have SIBO but when I did the breath test the numbers stayed relatively the same but yet they want me to take xifaxan to treat it. I can only eat about 5 foods also and none are good for you except hard boiled eggs. Can't do dairy. I have such debilitating abdominal pain and nausea. Endoscopy and colonoscopy came back good. I don't know what to think of the medical system anymore. Don't have much faith or trust in them. I think they'd rather see people dead than have to deal with them. You take care of yourself. Th Bacteria might be essential, as you say. But is this the case in the small bowel as well? Also if you say, thy produce gases that can make people feel uncomfortable, isnt that something to consider not healthy?

Sorry but no, low acid doesn't work as an excuse for everyone. Certain D lactic acid strains prefer acid environments which is why we are seeing D lactic acidosis in sibo, small bowel, and even in cases with none of the typical explanations. People are getting sibo that won't test positive on breath tests but when physicians are ordering d lactate and ammonia tests these patients absolutely have sibo. Humans don't make D lactic acid by the way (only bacteria in the gut) so its a tell tale sign but its rarely tested and only one lab in the entire country tests for this so even educated specialists have to send it off. Then there are cases where Bactrim and Doxycycline are causing this dysbiosis to happen in the first place. Thats just 2 antibiotics we know of. Oh and don't forget the patients actually getting this from OTC probiotics. Those lacto strains are overpopulating their gut and again, flooding the patient with D lactate.
Interesting perspective. I have no ileocaecal valve, no ascending colon, & no terminal ileum (secondary to a late diagnosed intussusception). For years post surgery I had severe diarrhoea for a few days every 2-3 wks, which gradually turned into chronic constipation, which has been my norm for years now. I have been offered antibiotics, but refused them. My feeling is they might help for an extremely short time, but given there is no trap door separating my large & small bowel, the effect would be very short lived. Plus I'd mess up the microbiome of the large bowel in the process, which would probably cause other unwanted issues.

The best results I had when feeding the gut microbiome *more* of what they like (salad/veggies.) After I had antibiotics in a clinic a quality probiotic/mineral/vitamin AllInOne supplement mix seemed to fix the loose stool faster.
I think you need a bit of everything if you come from a dark place.
But later you could overdose certain substances by mixing different supplements like synthetic B6 Pyridoxin-HydroChloride for example.

SIBO findings are definitely an advance. Ask people who added bacteria products to their diet and found their symptoms got worse. You may rather ask: What took them so long?

I was told i have H Pylori after the breath test. I have boating issues and stomach-aches after each meal. My first round of antibiotics failed. I don't want to continue taking level 2 (4 different antibiotics )cos its got side affects. But the doc said H pylori will cause CANCER if left untreated. PLEASE HELP🙏
Antibiotics also failed me. Carnivore diet for five weeks solved all my issues.

Carnivore most likely does not heal the problem. If anything, it simply alleviates the symptoms. Speaking anecdotally here. A Paleo diet helped keep symptoms at bay but the issue still remains until it is directly addressed.

hmmmm something doesn't add up here. I became sick as a dog 5 months a go. Lost 12lb. couldn't eat, threw up all the time. Ate like a bird, because my portions couldn't be bigger than that. And after tons of testing the last desperate test was SIBO test, and it was positive. I was skeptical since we had false positives before, including a scary Volvulus (turned stomach) where they wanted to slice me up to fix it. The antibiotic phase for SIBO was a bitch. I will admit it. I just got off of it, but Lord hold and behold... I CAN EAT! (I can still only eat about 1/2 an adult portion but better then the size of 1 cup of food a day...divided into 5 tiny portions. I dont feel like someone is kicking me in the stomach. I still do have the nightly "throw up" feelings but Im told it will eventually go away. Since it is gone from "perpetually" to evenings only.
Soooo Dr. Gundry is full of useful general information, but is way off when it comes to clinical application. I believe that there are people who truly have SIBO, and people who are misdiagnosed Im sure. But to just throw everyone into one bag just because he has a theory he wishes to prove is not right. He is putting peoples lives at stake here. I would not wish on anyone, what I have endured for 5.5 months before they figured how to fix me. Any kind of diet (a specially the anti-inflammatory fodmap diet he recommends) would be useless for someone who practically doesn't eat ANYTHING at all. If, and that is a big if I could eat 1/2 4,5oz yogurt for brunch and 1/2 chicken wing with 3tbs of rice it was a good day. And then possibly throw up most of it. (Or not on a good day). Where do you insert the diet? And he wants to fix me with a diet? It got so bad that I would rather not eat so I could avoid the torture of it all. I would stare at my food for an hour trying to force my self to eat 1 more bite. It got to a point where I would cry at dinner time. It just about did my husband in. And Dr. Gundry wants to fix all this with food? He is in TOTAL denial. He has no idea the HELL SIBO truly is. If you have it, you need to see a GI a Gastro specialist and get antibiotics before you get to my point. Or have the specialist figure out what is wrong with you. I have a great respect for Dr Gundry but before you can get someone on a diet you need to first address the immediate problems with antibiotics. Then you need to look for underlying issues and start treating people with dietary changes.

Update
To answer questions I have been tested positive for both hydrogen & methane bacteria.
It has been 4 weeks and my symptoms are back. Not yet bad enough to have been as terrible as before, but bad enough. Even though I have incorporated prebiotic foods. Dr Williams Davis Yogurt, kefir, kimchi and a lot of fiber. I try to do FOODMAP too but it’s new to me yet. And still it’s with all these precautions this “thing” is back driving me crazy.
He also truly believes (11:15) that there are people with Sibo. Which type were you diagnosed with? Antibiotics will take the edge off of really bad symptoms but will never cure true Sibo and could possibly make things worse after you stop taking them.
I tested really high for both hydrogen and methane but was told it’s SIBO. I was treated with 10 days antibiotics. Felt better after for 3weeks. Now I’m slowly getting my symptoms back. Really don’t know what to do about it. My provider is not easy to communicate with. Hasn’t spoken with me since the antibiotics.
Ps. I really don’t eat eggs or bread anymore… and very little meat, as they upset my stomach. So… I know he acknowledges SIBO exists but he treats it with diet. How do you treat someone who already doesn’t eat these foods… has symptoms. And actually has difficulty eating any food at all?
@@sabasalih5514 Please remember that the reason for the overgrowth is slowed gut motility that can be caused by many things (beginning stage of Parkinson's disease, autoimmune response to food poisoning bacteria). Adding prebiotics and probiotics makes this condition worse. Eat low fodmap foods. Your focus must be on increasing gut motility anyway you can (magnesium,prokinetics, laxatives, herbs) and not on killing anything. You can't eat because you are probably so backed up from lack of gut motility. After some weeks of daily bowel movements you could start trying to add the other vegetables one at a time to see how they affect you. Hope this helps.
@@BringItOn31124This sounds like it may potentially work. If the motility complex isn't working right, then the bacteria will end up repopulating the small intestine regardless.
Also, though, something that may have helped would have been to wait before adding the prebiotics since they most likely are simply feeding the remnant bad bacteria in the small intestine which results in symptoms returning.

Since the small intestine is where food is supposed to be absorbed into our body, it stands to reason we don't want bacteria competing for the available nutrients. THerefore, I fail to see why there would be evolutionary selection for that which makes me think SIBO is a real disease. I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one, Dr. Gundry.

That's an interesting perspective as I have several patients receiving TPN mixtures on a 24 hour/ 7 days a week schedule because they have very little of their intestine left whether it be disease or a car accident etc. I have never had to address any gasses that they may have been missing (as of yet). I can't even find an article regarding the supplementation of hydrogen or any other gasses for my TPN patients (who don't eat).
