Another great video Liz😀. As I've said before I'm a DIY'r and learned via UA-cam. Since I've been watching your whole fundamentals series my nails have never looked so good; from prep to hard gel, filing and gel polish applications. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge in a way that everyone can understand and apply. 😊
Hey Liz, video came at an opportune time. I've been practicing my gel application and was just sitting down to paint the nails! Followed your tutorial and they painted upsmooth and evenly. I just love your educational videos. Thank you.
This is exactly the video I was looking for because I was worried about the gel polish chipping if I filed the free edge afterwards. Thank you so much.
Wow game changer on the polish technique. That Estemio polish goes on beautifully and super pigmented. Would love to see color swatches of some kind on the site though, super hard to tell the colors. Another great video Liz, you're the best! Thank you for all you do.
Hi. I am just wondering about if I finished my hard gel nail. And I want to put gel polish color. Should i put base gel first?? Or should i put the top coat on my hard gel first then put my polish color z...?
Hi Liz, thank you for sharing your insight. Quick question.. Is it okay to apply a base coat to finished hard builder gel prior to applying the color? I have experienced lifting when going straight into the color.
Yes you absolutely can. Gel bonders that air dry also work. Usually if gel color is peeling or chipping over the hard gel nail it is because the hard gel was too smooth of a surface. Keep it more textured after finish filing and usually the color will adhere well but if that’s an issue base coat or bonder will work.
I also usually push back the cuticle slightly before each coat. So you can push product further and when the cuticle come down, it looks like the polish is under the cuticle. So when client comes after 3 weeks, there is barely any regrowth. 😊 Love your videos ❤️
I always use your videos for advice!❤️ I’ve been having trouble with gel polish chipping off of my hard gel overlays on my clients. I use Akzentz adhere for my base, IBD for the hard gel overlay, finish file, then use DND for the polish color, and IBD non wipe as the top coat, and I always cap the tip. Is it because I’m mixing too many different product lines together? Any advice would be so appreciated 🥺 I feel like pulling my hair out whenever a client tells me her nails chipped.
honestly mixing product lines has been worrying me so much. i wish i knew before i started nails now I feel like i’ll have to restart my whole inventory 🤦🏾♀️
Liz, I love how informative your videos are. Can you do a videos showing the differences between the 3 different Estemo builder gels for DIYers you have listed on the Nailhub site.
Gorgeous set!!! I love a gorgeous pink! I tried gel polish for the first time and it’s been a week- my only complaint about it is when my growth starts to come in it gets caught on my hair when I run my fingers through it or when I’m washing it?! My dip powder never does that and I go 3 weeks... is there a way to stop this? Does polygel do that? Thanks in advance ❤️ have a good day! 💕
Another nice video Liz! As you were explaining I kept hearing my nail instructor from 1988, Miss Julia. She would say “We paint fences. We polish nails” 😂💅🏻
Awesome!!💜💖💜💖💜 People thought I was weird doing my tips first!!! So I was trying to do "other way" now I can say: "Liz from The Nail Hub says this is the proper way"!!! Hehe😊
I hope to see videos using hard gel color instead of gel polish as I always do base then hard gel color then build up the nail and finish file then top coat which seems backwards compared to these past few videos. I have never used gel polish with hard gel as I didn't know soak off could be combined with hard gel.
Hello.🙂 I love the idea of re-filing the edge of gel polish over acrylic or hard gel enhancements. I was doing this when I used a HARD GEL TOPCOAT because it didnt break the seal. So with an everyday Topcoat, can I always be filing the edge of my ACRYLIC and BUILDER gel enhancements? Just feel abit nervous about it....Should I be? Thankyou kindly.🙂🌹🌹🌹
Theres no seal to break since the whole tip is all artificial and theres not real nail exposed. Feel free to use any top coat you like and yes you can file the edge.
Hi ! I adore your videos and admire the volume of information that you put up there ! I sadly developed an allergy to gel lac and hard gel ☹️ Could It be just from one brand and not the other ? I only used one brand . Thank you so much for everything !❤️🙌🏻
Hi, I also have an allergy. I can only use 2 brands and have to be very careful about what brand and type of primer and topcoat I use. With this 2 brands I have not had an allergic reaction. Good luck finding a brand that works for you.
It is most likely the ingredients in the gel you use. Unfortunately a lot of brands don't take care with this. Prevention is the first step by not touching uncured gel and second step is try and stay away from brands that contain a high percentage of HEMA. Usually people become allergic to the monomers and cheaply made brands usually have a high monomer content. We only sell gels that we know are hypoallergenic and also brands that the manufacturers actually make their own gel in an effort to avoid this issue. It's a big problem that's growing. Hopefully other manufacturers will wake up.
Just wondering if you break the seal when u finish file the end where u want a crisp straight tip would it be ok to do so when it’s just overlay and not an extension? Thanks!
Im having a hard time with an annoying bump near the cuticle after top coating, how can i prevent this, it looks like too much top coat to me so i try to use less but still end up with it half the time. I hope this makes sense..
hey liz✨i have a qwestion if i have gel nails on and i did a french gel polish on top do i need to encapsulate that with a thin layer of clear builder gel for smoother finish or the top coat will do what do u suggest(ps:my favourite nail channel easily💖💖💅🏻)
I've worn both ways. Just your preference I'd think. I've had gel polish easily last until it grew out. But I only do it for me right now. Why not give the lesser % a try on yourself and see? I have 99% been using the mix a few months before her video and definitely a nail life changer!!! Definitely worth a try!! 💜💖💜
Hello! I am brand new to trying to do my own nails. My nails have always fallen off; or chip the SAME day. So, now i'm want to do my own nails. I just purchased my first kit. Can the uv color gel be used to extend the natural nail; or is it just used to paint the nail?
Thanks Liz. It takes me a very long time to do builder gel over tips (5-6 hours). But after filing although the nail looks and feel smooth, I always seem to get tiny bumps after applying color gel polish. How can I help eliminate this issue?
Hi Liz, I have a question about gel application. Often after shaping and applying gel polish it seems like the shape is lost or too bulky. Has this ever happened to you?
If you use gel polish over hard gel, do you need to use a gel polish top coat? Can you use a hard gel top coat? Thank you for all these videos by the way! Life changing!
Lately I’ve noticed there are always tiny bubbles in my gels during application. Some of them didn’t have this issue before, any idea what could be causing it? Also my new black and dark blue polishes won’t cure fully anymore, is this likely an issue with my lamp?
You have probably over mixed your gel in the pot and that creates bubbles, also it could be your application if you are pushing it with the brush rather than guiding it to self level bubbles can form.
I want start overlaying hard gel infer my natural nails and use gel polish on top. I usually soak off gel polish in pure carton for 10 minutes after I file some off with hand file. Will this break down hard gel ?
Do I understand correctly that capping is only necessary when the free edge involves the natural nail? If the free edge is purely artificial nail then no capping is necessary?
I’ve just switched from embedding and I can’t get gel polish down and it’s driving me crazy 😣 they never taught us colour on artificial nails AT ALL in school.
Thinning of the nail doesn't happen because of the product. It happens when filing during prep or it happens during removal. If you don't over file or peel off your nails your real nails shouldn't change underneath...
Hi liz my gel polish seems to peel off on a fake nail and i don't no how to fixs it and all my products are the same brand please can you help me with this.
Some get that on real nails too..once I wasn't wiping my fakes with nail cleaner other time it was my lamp got weak/ worn out. ...I never would have realized the teeny tiny flicker until a "high end gel " peeled up after curing (and setting overnight). Swapped lamps problem solved!💜💖💜yay!
I had that problem over acrylics if I didn’t use a protein bond coat before applying. Now I only do hard gel and just like this video, no bonder, no base. So great!
Don't buff the surface smooth. You need to leave it about 180 grit texture. If it's gooey underneath then it could be your lamp or the thickness of your coats.
Your bulldoze technique changed my gel polish application for the better!
This series has been a godsend for me. My nails are healthier, and it shows. I'm also getting braver about trying new things. Thank you so much!

Agreed especially for the color swatches! I don't want to blindly choose colors! Lol!
Your tutorials are very helpful for me thank you for sharing them. 💖💅
Super nice way of applying gelpolish! I've never applied it to the tips first but do always push the colour towards the cuticle area with the brush ☺️
Hi. I am just wondering about if I finished my hard gel nail. And I want to put gel polish color. Should i put base gel first?? Or should i put the top coat on my hard gel first then put my polish color z...?
I’m trying to find this out too!
You don’t need a base cost or top coat on your hard gel, just go straight into color application 😊

Interesting! :)
Yes! That is a great technique. I love the "one last tuck" especially on clients with stubborn skin.
Pretty 😍 I guess if you are wanting to keep a coffin shape, you’ll need to go even more tapered so that it doesn’t go square with the polish...
Love your work!! Can you please tell us where to get that little mani brush with the dotting tool on one end? TIA
Thank you!! Will try your method, I always flood my cuticles.

Haha. Yeah I dont know why people get so hung up on paint vs polish. To me polishing is making something shiny...
The Nail Hub she was a great instructor, no one cares outside of beauty school. 👌🏻😁
Could I put regular nail polish on and put a layer of clear over and cure or will the curing affect the polish color?

Fab - U - lus thanks for a great nail with good idea's on how to apply the gel. Xv
Puuurrrfection!👌🏼💖
(I *love* that colour!!)
Is it mandatory to put 2 coats of color? Also, what do you do if you cured the color before being able to clean around the nail?

oh and i can find isopropyl alcohol anywhere near me will the 96% antiseptic pure alcohol work with the pure acetone as a cleanser combo😐

Usually I just put top coat and add one extra dot right at the smile line to blend the two. I will add this to my list of videos.

Hi Liz, I have a question about gel application. Often after shaping and applying gel polish it seems like the shape is lost or too bulky. Has this ever happened to you?
When I do this you can see the filing marks on the nails how do I fix this issue so that is is smooth?
Do you mean you can see scratches through your gel polish? Please elaborate a bit. I’m happy to help.
The Nail Hub Yes I see scratches through the gel polish especially if the policy is light.

Liz Combs I’ve used both. Gel Top Coat you can soak off and hard gel( 1-step) you efile off.

Yes correct. You can cap artificial product if you prefer that look but it is not necessary since theres no natural nail free edge exposure.
Nice Barbie pink!
so pretty!
I really liked it. Thanks.
I have an led/uv so would the cure time be 1 minute rather than 30 seconds ?
Hybrids follow same guideline as LED only lamps. 30s.

Do you apply gel polish differently over soft gel?

Sparkles xo it could be two things. Maybe you buffed the nail too smooth, or you undercured the gel polish

No base ???
Nope not needed as we are applying over filed gel. Only time I use base is when I need a smooth surface for painted on french.
Whenever these nail techs paint bright colors on my nails they always look streaky. It's never fully opaque 😔😔😔
They may be using a watery formula or they need to shake/stir the gel better. It's all in the gel you use...
Are you applying soft gel over hard gel?
❤️
