Keep up there great work with the videos they're all brilliant.
Thankyou through your review i purchased one and i am very impressed with the sprayer, for a one handed disabled person it was easy to use and setup thankyou
I just put mine one in the bin after one use. Great for a spatter effect, regardless of how little or much I diluted the paint, but useless for anything else. I used the splatter and roll technique. I suspect you need to be a pro to use of these machines - I’ll stick to the day job!! Thanks for the video, it did help - a bit.
Thanks very much for your video about the energer HVLP sprayer, £35 from Screwfix, I love it. Got my best results by spraying Zinser BIN neat, pine lacquered doors (Orange) to white in 2 coats, great finish.

Just ordered the Energer after watching your video. Being someone with arthritis of the hands I’m really looking forward to using it to do the rest of our large shed. Would you recommend it for pebble dash? ✌️👍
Looking to buy this gun to spray the pebbledash on my house. What paint would be best to buy for this or would another gun be better for that job? Thanks.
Have at look at the other one I reviewed. It's on offer at screw fix too now. That would have more power. You'd need to thin your masonry paint enough so it sprays well. Or look at airless sprayers where you need less thinning
I Started out on fence panels as the finish wasn't critical. At first the thinning wasn't enough. I mixed about 2:1 and it started working well. After some adjustment, I was flying through em. Two coats in next to no time and very happy indeed. I'm planning to try spraying upvc window frames, gutters, soffits and then kitchen cabinet doors. That will be a proper test for the sprayer and a bigger test for me. Thanks again Phil👍Was going to buy something more expensive and I'm pretty confident this will do the job.
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Hi again Phil, hope that you have been keeping well mate. Just a quick message to let you know I have successfully painted my bungalow! Including the window frames, soffits and gutters. It looks amazing on the whole but there are a few runs here and there when you look closely ;-) All with a £40 spray gun. It was a bit tricky taking the extension reel and gun at the top of the ladder (to get to the top of my apex), but once I got a method in place it wasn't too bad. I discovered it didn't work so well with masonry paint on a rough cast render, because I kept emptying the pot too quickly and it was a pain to keep filling it up. So , I used a roller for that. Wanted to say a big thank you for uploading the video and recommending this gun. The finish on the plastic looks like it's come straight from the factory!
@Carlos A-Chelton Hi Carlos, I'm looking at buying one of these to do similar jobs that you have been doing... do you have any tips? Sounds great! Yes. This one or the other I've tried out recently would be fine. Thinning paint.. depends on which paint. Inadd a little bit at a time till I feel it mix nicely and it runs off the mixing stick ... Not to thickly and not too thin!! Remember... These units have two spray caps... Both are quite large compared to what I'd be using with my £1k Hvlp. So you will be able to spray the paint thinker. Best try it out in some card before you do your project, so you get a feel for it and see its not leaving the spray paint finish uneven cus its too thick. If it's running... It's too thin... Or your too close and not moving the gun quick enough. Trial and error :)
Thanks loads Phil for taking time to reply Ile do what you said it's common sense, nice bloke Ile look forward to watching your other videos thanks again
Yes I do, I mention it on a hvlp video.. the one about the best paint combo.. have you seen it? the principle is about the same how you get a mix ready to spray. ua-cam.com/video/CjmsvQtI1wg/v-deo.html
phil I know this is an old video but could i get a decent finish with this or something similar to paint my upvc doors and windows using kolorbond aquatek
thanks for commenting.... the more power the better, you'll spray ok.. but the other more powerful one would be better.. but still not the best for it. It would be more suited to AllCoat of Bedec MSP, which willalos go on uPVC
Great demonstration Phil - will buy one of these, initially to spray inside our Garage with White masonry paint to brighten up the Garage, hopefully white masonry paint should be ok?
Give it a go for £40. You may need to thin the paint quite a lot though. Is it already painted out or new? You can get away with normal contract paint.. a lot cheaper to buy... It's good enough for a garage. Did you see my video of painting breeze blocks?
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Thanks Phil - just bought today from Screwfix and also will take your note about thinning the Sandtex Paint for spraying on a new build Garage wall/s. Any other tips greatly received
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator I have watched it mate thanks good vid. Just debating wether or not to do it with roller and brush I’ll only ever be doing it once so probably not worth getting a sprayer 😂
What’s the cheapest one you would recommend for woodwork on new build? Just got two airless sprayers so can’t afford an expensive one atm, but the airless have a bit less control
Hi Phil, thanks for the great video! I have this but have been hours trying to set it up. Followed all instructions, paint diluted, it powers up, air flows, but when I press the lever no paint comes out. No luck adjusting the various spray settings. Can I ask does your white nozzle needle have a hole in it? Mine is sealed at the tip and I’m wondering if this is the problem! Thank you! 😊
Hi Phil white emulsion paint how much do I thin?? So that white tub if I was pour that in to how much paint as I’m looking to do my whole house too to bottom. Cheers mate
Have you seen the bit bigger 'cheap' sprayer which is 800w? They will spray varnish, I'd say keep to water based. The spray cap ideally needs to be smaller than the one that comes with these sprayers, but if you turn down the paint flow on the trigger, you'll be able to reduce how much paint comes out the gun, giving you some control.
I use an Apollo 1500 pro , but when I Skirts (main issue) any ideas why it always looks washed out? Really crap finish so ending up brushing it after! Which sort of destroys why I’m spraying plus causing more work…. Any advice that you may think of may be helpful…. 👌
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator dulux trade quick dry gloss / satin and Johnstones aqua .. weird as doing rads , sills etc all good.. but the finish albeit excellent the colour is nothing like when brushed .. very annoying 🙄
You may struggle getting enough paint on. Have you seen the other cheap Erbauer sprayer I tested.. that may be ok having a bit more power. Ideally you'd want airless sprayer that can put paint on quicker, thicker. But that's another learning curve to understand how to use it.
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Cheers Phil, that makes sense. Yes I've just watched the other review and will give that one a try. What airless would you recommend at a reasonable price point?
I've dropped back to this vid phil, it's been over ten years since I've used a sprayer, at the time I was spraying through a titan airless to do a lot of new builds (it was a good one back then), which sprayer do u reckon is a good all-rounder, maybe spray the occasional ceiling but mostly to do window frames and woodwork or would I need a hvlp and an airless for the ceilings
Ideal world... Both. Depending what you want to spend. HVLP (I've the qt5) has a lot of control. My Gxff good for a few ceilings and also woodwork when needed. My 495st Max² FF.. does the same as the Gxff at nearly double the price... But offers a future proof set up. .... See my video on spraying staircase.. HVLP and Airless. I've. Titan 440xt as well... Mainly used for banging out larger areas... Also masonry. But it's not as powerful as the 495. Horses for courses. Need to work out your budget and how often you'll want to use it. Once you get into it... You'll use it more.. whatever set up you go for.
I was looking at the gxff with hopper, but I think I'll use it more for woodwork so might get a hvlp then, I also looked at the handheld graco but I've read mixed reviews, be safer to invest in a decent hvlp, cheers for the reply 😁👍
@@jamesfairclough6340 a hand held they say wil last 100 gallon, that includes the water you wash it out with! hvlp won't do ceilings... the gxff would be ideal for those.

Please can you advise how to spray a ceiling, given the nozzle is perpendicular to the paint holder? The paint stops spraying as the level drops due to the angle. Is there a different technique to ceilings?
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Here’s one for you Phil. So I have some in the interior panel doors that are already painted. Problem number one is that they have a grain effect on them and I found that when I sand them down to repaint this affect diminishes. But more importantly despite using a simple 120 grit sanding sponge (A worn down one too) The sanding scratches are showing through several coats of aqua guard (Tinted black).. I haven’t bothered undercoating most as of course I’m only sanding down only to previously painted coat and not Bear wood. Any suggestions to assist with either of these issues? Thanks. Love the content
@@antb3334 with WB you need to v careful not to scratch the surface as the paint don't have enough guts to it to loose the scratches. Try using a Mirka gold flex 150 and 240grade sanding Pads. There's some in my Amazon shop You'll be surprised how they cut the surface without scratching it.
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator so Phil, i had some 220 grit sanding blocks from feestool lying around so to lower the grit even further I wet sanded in small circles lightly across the whole panel door (sanding just the surface of they previous coat) and then re-painted with the black tinted aqua Guard over the top and STILL I can see all the scratches under the surface caused by the 220. Makes no sense? Maybe the black is the issue :/. I’ve got some undercoat on order so maybe try that before and be scared to even sand that lightly lol
hi, does the trigger pull all the way back..... is the black 'spring' in the black pipe.. which is next to the white pick up pipe? Have you too much paint/water in it?
@Phil Beckwith The Professional Painter & Decorator hi thank you. Yes the trigger goes all the way, black pipe is in and I'm just using water atm don't want to add paint until I know it works incase It's faulty. It seems the white nozzle in it doesn't have a hole if that makes a difference? The air is coming through just nothing else?
How are you getting it to lay paint on so thick I’ve just got one and paint just seems thin and watery on the wall not sure if I thinner it to much ? Also it spraying paint out before I press trigger when i turn it on
Hi Amanda. This sprayer has quite a large hole that the paint goes through. 2.0and 2.2 hole size. I I were to spray varnish or gloss I'd want smaller.. 1.3 or 1.5 hole size. I'm not saying you can't, but you may find it puts too much paint on when you turn the fan pattern to a narrower spray size... you can also turn the nob on the handle to reduce down the flow of paint. Were you thinking water based varnish and water based gloss? If so, you may find it does spray.. with a bit of practice on some cardboard before you do the actual 'doors' etc I've a video using this scheduled in the next week or so.. it's already edited and set to go live... using it with Barn Paint.. with is a semi gloss finish... the results are worth watching. Subscribed? Press the bell so not to miss it.
Hi. I can't see why not. It's not as complicated or should I say advanced as using a QT5, there's not the power or the full control .. but as you see on the videos I've used it on, it does spray... You may need to check the thickness of paint so you get it flowing out. I do have some scruffX to demo... Shall I give it a go with it as well?
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Hi Phil, thank you for your reply, the scuffx demo video would be great, at a guess what percentage of water to paint would you suggest would be good?
Hi all, please help! My paint is not coming out like in the video... I am using crown trade fastflow quick dry gloss. The paint already has a good texture - if I put a wood stick inside and lift above it flows perfectly, no slow dripping. How should I use the viscosity cup? Is not clear to me the 50s and 100s - do I put the the 2mm and 2.5mm inside the cup or how do I know the difference? How much should I dilue? By adding water the paint just disappear after is dried out...
I have think you'll struggle with that paint to be honest. Can you get water to spray through it.. start there. You may need to thin the paint more. The air cap needle.. look at the hole.. one is bigger than the other.
@@KraszkoAlmos27 YOu'd go for the larger 'HOLE' air cap. You may find the machine struggles with spraying emulsion..... it'll need thinning to help it spray better. For emulsion you'd normally use an AirLess sprayer.
Hi, not really, it will take a while and not give the finish you really want. For walls and ceilings you're better looking at an Airless sprayer.. but that's next level if you've not done spraying before. Have you seen my videos yet on airless spraying?

That cissing is exactly what happened to me when using thinned Bedec MSP on an empty property where I sprayed all the woodwork using my Wagner XVLP with the Finespray cap, it was on keyed up old gloss, thickened the paint and struggled to get it through, but subsequent coats went on much better anyway, good to see it's not just me it happened to though, good you get a viscosity cup with the set, didn't get that with my Wagner, their service desk just said to thin it by about 10 to 15% 🤷♂️
The more water added will ciss more, particularly on surfaces with a sheen or gloss. Thick paint didn't spray too well so it's playing with it to get a good consistently. Dropping to the small orifice made a world of difference though.
Quick question for you Kris. How does Dulux oil satin and gloss spray through the xvlp? I've never seen a vid on it or anyone talk about it before. I've got loads of site work coming up and I've always been tempted with the Wagner to take the strain off my old knees. It's gotta be twice as quick and half as hard as brush work and easy to clean etc so the 3500 is tempting to me. Any good and is it worth it? Another good vid by the way Phil 👍
@@badlefthook624 hi mate, well to be completely honest, I've always been a brush and roller painter, but as well as a decorator I'm also a landlord, so when some tenants gave notice recently, I had a two week gap to redecorate the whole 2 bed house, I think it took us 3 weeks in the end as we had a landscape gardener traipsing through the house relaying the patio, but the wagner 3500 xvlp was a life saver, especially on the stairs and spindles, I also fixed and resprayed the kitchen carcasses white which had faded, put new b&q doors and worktops on and it was like a new kitchen. Until then, I'd had the sprayer in its box for a year, after I got it in a Brewers deal, but didn't want to practice with it on a paying customers house! I think Dulux don't recommend spraying some of their solvent paints, but I'm sure plenty of guys do, I've only used Bedec MSP through it so far and that worked well, slightly thinned, but took a bit of adjusting to get it right. Most important to familiarise yourself with taking it apart and cleaning it, flushing through etc. I would've gone full HVLP, we used those at college when I did my level 2, but I couldn't justify spending a couple of grand on a set up at my stage. For less than £500 I think the Wagner 3500 is worth it, if only as a stepping stone to the Graco types. Bit heavy if holding all day though, worth bearing in mind because the turbine is built into the handset, so that, with a litre of paint on board might make your wrists ache after a while, my only other grumble is that mine came with a euro plug on it, so that's been replaced with a uk type.
@@krisholden8490 cheers for the reply mate. I'm still on the fence with it. I wouldn't run oil and water paints through the same airless machine and the cleaning out would be a hassle. I'm quick enough with a brush, but if you could slash that in half the time and save my knackered knees a bit, I'm half tempted. Like you say, the money on an hvlp is a bit much compared. Still not a lot of info on oil paints and the finish though. I dunno, I'll suss it out when I start and see. It's only £430 and could cut the time in half. Take it easy mate.

Depending what you want to spend.
HVLP (I've the qt5) has a lot of control.
My Gxff good for a few ceilings and also woodwork when needed.

If so, you may find it does spray.. with a bit of practice on some cardboard before you do the actual 'doors' etc

@@badlefthook624 I just finished this job a couple of weeks ago. XVLP3500 loaded with Dulux Quick Drying Satinwood, thinned about 10%, I think. Should have thinned it a tad more, but it worked. 90 minutes to coat the entire HSL, so 3 hours for 2 coats - but a whole day masking..
