Kitchen Painting with Farrow & Ball paints - conclusion
Переглядів 2,3 тис.21 день тому
In this third and final part of our series, I'll conclude our kitchen painting project using Farrow and Ball paints. Throughout the process, I encountered some questions regarding opacity and the mixing of the paint, which shed light on why many professional painters hesitate to use F&B. Opacity can vary depending on the colour and application, requiring additional coats for full coverage in so...

Can this be used on UPVC windows and doors Phil or just wooden frames?
on the glass?
the other videos are hidden phil
which ones?
"Minefield"
it blows your MIND
Going up stairs 😂
Hi Phil. Can you advise me the best way to use a knife when wallpapering, every time I try and use a straight edge with a new blade , the paper always pulls and rips the wallpaper. When I watch people do it like yourself , you make it look so easy. Keep up the great work Phil. 👍 Regards Glen.
Hi, what blade/Knife have you got?
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator I have a Stanley fatmax , the blades that you snap off. Thanks for the quick response Phil 👍
@@glenwilkins8587 swap over to an Ofla blade.. check my amazon link out. The Black blades. Main thing is, don't try to cut wet dish cloth paper.. Lining apper and some cheap wallpapers will snag up. Use shears for those papers.
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Many thanks Phil. I will check it out 👍
Used this a few times with good outcomes.
Good to see some budget paints that are up to being a good adhesion primer.
You can get it online from Topdec or The Paint Shed. Alternatively Brewers have it on their system so can get it in for you.
can i use for decking floor & the rails?
i can't see why not, but if walking on it you'll wear it off. there may be better decking paints out there to use.
I do, been using the floetrol one but heard this ones better so will give it a go
Yes mate, Xim unfortunately Decorating Direct have stop selling it😢😢😢 Best paint conditioner, I have used since 2013. Benjamin Moore one is not to bad
Love that ❤ Stephen and Phil fair play ❤ from Ireland 🇮🇪
1:11 did you drop your guts …..🤢
Nice one, thanks phil...
Interesting. Cheers Phil
Not used it yet 👍
Sorry Phil, only just got around to watching/leaving a comment. ‘Cracking’ video, as always! Are you at the Midlands show in Mansfield on Friday? Come and find me if so - I’ve got something for you to try!
See you Friday :) dead excited now lol
Bit late now. But, have you tried the repaircare one?
The TimbaCare from TimbaBuild I've used.
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 1/4 the price😁 I use timbabuild rather than repaicare but didn't know they did a glazing putty/sealant
@@mattcable6379 sorry, it's called TimbaGlaze
Did you ask your dyslexic six year old son to write the title on this video? 😂😂😂
It's all spelt perfect
Can I just apply to my external wall, or will it spread to my internal walls. I've currently got plaster that will jot dry on my chimney breast
I know you don't believe in mixing brands but my go to bow is Crown fastflow undercoat as opacity is incredible and bedec aqua advanced over top... Not had a problem in a year now
Bedec Aqua Advance UC/primer is very good. Quick drying and solid
The new formula Little Greene paints are now self priming self undercoating. 2 coats and it's done. Nice paint.
Like an All Coat or MSP?
Hey man, i live in america and PVA is a commonplace primer in new construction over drywall. You have to understand that we don't typically use plaster hardly at all in new construction anymore, at least on the west coast. I do think its used more on the east coast, though, in restorations and high end stuff, but plaster is a totally different beast from drywall, as far as i can tell, and likely requires a different primer. Also, i think the term "pva" is a bit confusing. There is polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl acrylic, polyvinyl alchohol, and PVA glue, whatever that is. Very confusing. Acetate and acrylic are what we use on new drywall. The alchohol is used on fiberglass boats, cars, and such. The glue is a glue and not even a primer! Im reading the comment section and people are so up in arms arguing either side, but i think its mostly misunderstanding. I am a painter in california, and i think what concerns me about a video like this is homeowners will see it and think they've uncovered some dirty secret we were hiding from them, when we were really just doing the job right. Dont worry about the haters. You obviously saw a problem with the substrait and took the long, painful, but necessary steps to fix it. UA-cam comments may hate you, but your client will probably love you. Just remember that the latter are actually paying you, lol
Thank you for reaching out from across the Pond. I'm in the UK, and this is a big problem with those with little knowledge in the UK. USA... yes you are correct, I think your PVA is toatlly different to what we use.. what we have is a GLUE.. its what kids use at school to stick pasta to a piece of card and paint it with a gold rattle can of paint lol 'our' PVA is not suitable for bare plaster... it reacts with the surface and it's good for painting over. thank you for replying :)
Thanks
No problem
I’m curious about the pump armor. Do you use it every time? And how much of it did you use? I love your sticker on your pot. Do you sell those? lol. Sometimes I spray…. Sometimes i brush… sometimes I roll.
Which sticker?
Phil, have you compared Flow & bond with Floetrol?
Nope. They'll be do the same I'd think.
Hi! Excellent vid. We live in an old stone house with a brick front. The whole house was rendered with concrete in the 70s we think. We’re working on some drainage issues around the house which is causing the worst rising damp! Once the house has dried out fully in one or two summers (if we’ve sorted the drainage properly) I’m thinking we’ll do this, or it’s external insulation which will mean knocking off the exterior render and it’s expensive. Anyway, I’m going off on one - what I’d like to know is: as it’s an old house, the walls are well wonky! A feature I am fond of. Would the wall rock be easy to apply onto that or would it be a real b**ch? Would air gaps in the dips and troughs in the walls be an issue in terms of trapped condensation? Hope I’m making sense!
How bad are the walls, it may mold in. Or how about using the plaster multi finish and skim them out to improve them ready for hanging the damp stop? Check that video out.
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator it’s not too bad. We plastered the walls with traditional lime and we’re by no means professional and the walls bere uneven anyway, but now they’re a little on the bumpy and scrapy side 😂🤦♀️ I’ll take a look at that video but as o say, skimming is not something either of us are good at 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Hi, only just got round to watching your videos. Very interested in painting a upvc front door. I’m worried about having to shut the door at night and then getting an 8/10 mm mark all round the door because it’s been closed too soon. Is taking the door off it’s hinges the only solution? Ps great video on the painting the door panel.
have you watched my video on spraying a uPVC door yet?
have you seen this paint.. it can be brushed or rolled ua-cam.com/video/ZF84rgq6leU/v-deo.htmlsi=8S2v7Ub2r0GKikjO
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator thanks for a reply, not seen the spray vid yet.
Collage, I went there in 1987
for City & Guilds?
That comment reminds of Porridge. I read a book once. Green, it was.
You can paint it after 2-3 days its still linseed putty must have stuff added to it for ease of use
it dried off quicker in summer too
Nothing wrong with liquid mask yellow looks horrible .
phil I know this is an old video but could i get a decent finish with this or something similar to paint my upvc doors and windows using kolorbond aquatek
thanks for commenting.... the more power the better, you'll spray ok.. but the other more powerful one would be better.. but still not the best for it. It would be more suited to AllCoat of Bedec MSP, which willalos go on uPVC
Turn the crap music off
I can't reach your volume control from here
Thanks Phil, will this stop salt and algae coming through from underneath and affecting the finish masonry coats?
efflorescence will still come through if its there in the wall (damp + salt comes to the surface)
Why not the old std issue stabiliser?
27 years a decorator, had my own business. but contract to the government Ireland for past 13 years. Love the trade. Makes me Happy 😁 Dublin.
Disappointing video from a apparently professional painter and decorator you would think you would know how to use the brush before making a video on it
Please watch my other content, this was a light hearted tongue in cheek video.. hence only 6.5 mins long.... normally I'd be easy 35mins doing a full review lol
It’s all in the prep. Zinsser BIN Aqua is a great primer, in fact all their paints are good
I have a job coming up in the autumn where the room has no damp proof course. There is damp coming through the the woodchip. My plan is to use this product, 2 layers then Albany reinforced lining paper. Wish me luck
watch my other video on this product, it explains a bit more as well.
Yep CT1 its absolutely brilliant 👍
Hi mate, just stumbled across this whilst deciding what paint to paint my exterior trim with. What would you recommend? Looking for a satin finish. Thanks for the video.
Welcome. Use the correct matching primer/UC Look at Isomat Isolac satin Or Caparol PuSatin or puGloss (that's only a 65% sheen level) Bedec Aqua Advance Satin Easy Multi Surface Paints. Bedec MSP Zinsser AllCoat Sandtex also do a retail Multi Surface paint too.
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Thanks for your reply, that gives me a great start point to look at. Cheers again!
I have a tin of Peel Stop. Will it help seal in wallpaper glue residue like Gardz?
Gardz is the one you need to do that
Hi phil Thankyou for the video. Just asking would of it been better to put the paper around all the chimney breast rather than just the face just in case damp goes in other areas of chimney breast or was there a reason you didn’t 😊
it was only on the face side
What happens when you come to re-wallpaper😊
To strip off? I bet it will come off in sheets
I was looking for a cordless option so bought one with a portable extractor for 184 quid from Screwfix for climbing to high spots on ladders ect. Together they aren't bad, but not great indoors, the extractor is weak . Should i bother with the larger cordless Dewalt T stack one or would folks say a Mirka is best overall for true dustless? cheers.
as always, you get what you pay for
Thanks for this, I’ve got moisture patches slowly developing on the inside corner of one chimney breast then another small patch inside an upstairs bedroom wall. Its a 1950’s house with a new roof. There’s no mould developing, it just feels damp to the touch. A specialist damp company said the wall is absorbing moisture from the inside. They suggested they’d replaster over these areas at a cost of £3,000! Think I’ll give this a try as the areas are relatively small.
Follow my instructions. It'll save a few quid for now. Make sure you use the adhesive paste for the damp stop and wall rock fibre lining over it.
Thanks
thank you
Cracking tutorial phil, covered everything there and a great problem solver. So much choice nowadays. Thanks for posting
Thanks for watching
