Subdivisions is not a song that most people "get" on the first listen. It's an acquired taste, with the constantly moving bass line, the synthesizers over the top, the lyrics, but most importantly, Peart's drumming. The brain just can't grasp how intricate, interesting and phenomenal Peart's drumming is without multiple listens.
If you like rush check out mid eighties era killing joke.. similar guitar tone .. Great drummer and big analog synths .... songs like eighties ... twilight of the the mortal .....kings and queens ... nighttime ... love like blood ...
This is, honestly, one of the Rush songs that REALLY speaks to me. I do find it fascinating that there were no stops, no comments, nothing during your reactions. You seemed to be completely entranced by the song, paying close attention to what was being said. I salute that.
This album was released at the beginning of my sophomore year of high school and summed up the way the groups or cliques were back then, even today. If you remember the movie The Breakfast Club it fits that period perfectly.
Glad to see a positive review on this one. I recall you panning Rush on another review in the past, so was not sure if you would return to this well. Something to realize is that being around for 40 years, Rush went thru a lot of eras/styles so some might appeal to you more than others. Of course, most hard core fans love them all!
Subdivisions - one of my favorite Rush songs. I love Geddy's "talk-singing" in this; he has such an interesting voice. When I first saw a picture of him on the back cover of 2112, the heard him sing, I thought "if anyone is an alien walking amongst us, he's got to be one of them"! Anyway, Subdivisions is a phenomenal intelligent teen angst song. IMO if Rush stayed on this trajectory instead of the lighter, ?poppier? things that happened in the latter half of the eighties. They would have been an even more formidable force even than they we're. Maybe not Led Zepplin Huge, but not too far behind. Love that this has menace and melody.
This is one of those songs you hear grunge bands cover and you go, "Yeah, I get why you're doing that." Lyrically, this feels like a grunge song a decade early.
@Sebastian yeah I'm so sick of the lame black metal stuff. The most interesting thing about black metal is not even the music it's just the one band that burned churches and even that story got old.
No more eating during reactions lol felt like u weren't taken it serious especially when it's a deep song but either way love the reactions just a thought
I dunno if guys remember doing Allegaeon, but they did a pretty cool cover of this. So, if you're curious about what Rush would sound like with 8 strings & double bass, check that out lmao.
@@tonygallo2361 When they had to wait years after people like Madonna, U2, and Green Day got in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before they finally made it
please do a reaction to Pangaea - Survivors Guilt. You will not be disappointed. absolutely fantastic work of art. i wanna see your reactions to how that track ebbs and flows through different styles and emotions. this band is one of the most technical, young bands out there. this song will blow your mind and hopefully have you craving more from them
Great Band!! Iconic musicians.. this was on the peek of their synth phase, we know geddy loves his keys, i prefer their older prog stuff... and their stuff from the 90s and on... though i also respect their 80s material. I would suggest cygnus x1 book 2.. hemispheres is a masterpiece... or ghostrider from vapor trails.
With all due respect they have yet to pick some of their heaviest hitters IMO, but I like them all Most impressive in this tune is the drumwork. Niel slays it
So you want to make RUSH a joke like haha this is not smart the fans will restoreal u I like u but u don't know what u are talking about it's funny u have to go deep in to the RUSH
you dang teenagers with your Twizzler smoking and foul language .....get a job.......you dont want adults seeing this kind of behavior do you ? and turn off that confounded rock roll noise !!! LOL
I'm so old that I still consider this new Rush!
i think most Rush fans consider this new-ish atleast.
I call mid mid-life! LOL!
I remember when the Buzzard in Cleveland played Working Man. Damn I'm old.
They should react to Faithless.
Rest In Peace, Professor 💔
Chris Charrette Amen
you realy have to do Xanadu on exit stage left !!
Anybody who ever lived in a subdivision as a teen gets this song.

no I got it on the 1st listen for sure
That sounds like a self-congratulatory "you have to have an above average IQ to get it" kinda comment..
@@michaelwoods9005
Nothing to do with IQ, it's just too complex of a song to fully appreciate on one listen only.
Actually, I got it first listen. Nothing acquired about my tastes here.
Try "The Pass"
Greatest song ever about teenage alienation. Timeless

You two make a nice couple.

Finally....finally they play a song worth listening to!!
There is hope after all..miracles do happen!!!
you guys got the munchies or what lmfao
God, I love Rush. This is one of my favorites from them. So groovy.
Rush immediately brings me home, a true Canadian gem next to The Tragically Hip.
My favorite song by a tremendously underrated band.
Since when is Rush underrated! Are you kidding?
Underrated in the genre would be Camel, Van Der Graaf Generator, Gentle Giant, ELP, etc.
@@blackfyre6721 agreed!!
rush is not underrated at all. everyone knows and appreciates rush
im 56 years old, he was my hero at 12

RIP to my 1st and greatest music hero Neil Peart, The Professor. Greatest drummer of my lifetime.
As a 12 year old, Signals was the first Rush album I bought right after it was released and I still love it today.
RIP Neil Peart :(
Im still in shock.
I ❤ Rush!

The Spirit of Radio

Vin and Sori, you need to check out Rush's song called "The Spirit Of Radio" . That song will give you a good idea how Rush became so popular!

It's all about the cymbal playing for me on this one. One of the best grooves in classic rock.
@@caseybv74 true that!

Yes!! One of my all time favorite bands! Since you’re a fan of prog, check out their older stuff. Like 2112 or Fairwell to Kings.
always in top 10 rush for me
i still remember when sori said Rush sounded like 'childrens music'.
Finally something that's not just noise with a shock value band name and song title.
@Sebastian yeah I'm so sick of the lame black metal stuff. The most interesting thing about black metal is not even the music it's just the one band that burned churches and even that story got old.
You guys need to do "Spirit of the Radio". One of their best.

You guys would enjoy black Veil Brides. Their whole discography is just awesome. The legacy and walk away are two of my favorite songs by them.
I dunno if guys remember doing Allegaeon, but they did a pretty cool cover of this.
So, if you're curious about what Rush would sound like with 8 strings & double bass, check that out lmao.
