Why have I not met a girl like this? Classic bands are so distinctive and Rush is among the greats. I started with 2112 and have gone backwards and forwards since then. The guitar that you speak of is a double neck and the drummer that you thought was so great I ounce watched play while his whole platform was tipped upward 90 degrees. Rush has an incredible play list but, the 1st side of 2112 is genius. The whole 1st side of the album is a story about a guitar that is found in the future and how it is viewed by the ruling priests of the temples of Syrinx. A little buzz adds to the experience.
Neil (Drummer and Lyricist) perfectly encapsulates the feeling of growing up in suburbia at that time. much of his lyrics manage stand the test of time to this day. RIP Professor
Neil Peart was a voracious reader. Any time that he was not touring, riding his BMW motorcycle, or spending time with his family, you'd find him reading anything and everything. And this gave him the inate ability to write such amazing and profound lyrics. Neil and RUSH are sorely missed. RIP Neil
You are absolutely right. How do you know that ? Were you close to him ? If if not it's totally cool but you're one of the few people that actually know that
@mikewoods8565 First of all, I'm definitely a fan of RUSH. Secondly, as much as I wish that I knew Neil Alex and Geddy personally, I don't. I learned much about Neil by reading his book "Ghost Rider." It's a story about an unimaginable tragedy in his life where he lost his daughter and his wife in a very short period. And even though the pain would never go away, the book DID have a happy ending.
Rush the worlds smallest orchestra, three musical geniuses. Over forty years of music, check out La Villa Strangiato an instrumental ride that in a time signature masterpiece. I’ve been a fan of this band since I was fourteen,I’m now sixty-two and love watching young people like you discover them.☮️❤️🇨🇦
Rush is simply more than only music, I guess to all Rush fans. Every damn song they all play different things in odd rhythms, BUT it flows so well. You can basically pick any Rush song and never be disappointed. And the lyrics from Neil are just outstanding (RIP Professor - you will be missed forever!). Greets from Germany. Enjoy!
This is one of my favorite Rush songs, and it was a true joy to watch your incredibly enthusiastic reactions to it. I was initially disappointed you weren't watching the video of this song, with it's sprawling suburbs, malls, and kids in high school and cruising and having to conform to the norms, but you were so into the lyrics, you totally "got it", and the pictures you created in your own mind were perfect. There are many, but this is one of the most fun reactions you've ever done. Thank you!
Neil was both a lyrical genius and possibly the most accomplished percussionist ever, able to craft a solo that in itself was a standalone piece of music. The world stopped the day he died.
Damn Britt, your analysis was spot on. This album came out in my Sophomore year of high school and got to see them on tour promoting this album. Being in that demographic in 1982, this song spoke volumes to me because I felt all those lyrics in real time. It still speaks to me today. R. I. P. Neil Peart, master drummer and master lyricist and poet.
Same here, got the album when it came out in Germany. I was in 10th grade as well. Saw this concert in Sporthalle (Heidelberg, Germany). Excellent show.
Dude, I was a senior in 1983, my sentiments exactly. Would love to relive my 1st experience with Rush in surround sound in my friends living room with a great buzz. The Priests of the Temples of Syrinx and Twilight Zone made me an instant fan.
@@dgminnerNeil put lyrics on a page Geddy vocalized them Alex along with GL and NP added the background for us to interpret as part of our lives. Masters
It's great that you shouted out Neal Peart on drums because much of this song is in sevens and then of course it switches to straight 8 at times to give extra Focus. But he is so good at making these oddball time signatures work and make them appealing to the average listener. I loved the way your innate sense of Rhythm took over and you were easily able to physically move to it, a lot of people just get frustrated by the uneven nature of that kind of time signature. John Bonham of Led Zeppelin was also fantastic at this, but it just seems like Neil took it to a whole other level. Rest in peace to both of them. Two of my all-time favorite drummers.
Rush is always "The Music!!" Thank you for a great reaction! Way to read and appreciate those lyrics! After their first album, in 1974, they got a new drummer and lyricist (same guy) and their songs started to blow up, not only percussively but lyrically! Great band of over 40 years!
You’re talking about a “ Keytar “ This is my fav. Band hands down. Just 3 guys and all 3 are complete masters of their craft. Jamel or Jamal reactions discovered Rush and is his fav. Band. He has been at it for years and has covered tons of bands. Huge catalog of music. The Drummer Neil Peart in most people’s eyes was the greatest drummer ever to grace this planet. And is always in conversation among the greatest. Their early stuff is their best stuff.
FINALLY! A reaction video that gives proper attention to the lyrics. So much is missed when attention is solely on the drums and voice. And you read them so lyrically well, too. Thank you.
This song is perfection both musically and lyrically. The call and response of the guitar and keyboards, the syncopation, the bass runs, the relentless use of the swish symbol at the end…. Just an absolute masterpiece.
The word "subdivisions" can also apply to the subdivisions of social groups or "cliques" of people. We are subdivided based on how cool you are or what your sport is or how pretty/good looking, etc.
If anyone asks me, Rush is my favorite band. Their music has solid deeper meaning. I am 60 and was in the military in the 80s. We were seriously feeling like we were going to fight 'the end of world' war, and were hellbent. Being philosophical had a knife edge to it.
Now we are fighting The Enemy Within(see what I did there?) called the Republican Party. It's surreal that one of America's 2 major parties turned anti-Democratic. Can't believe we are actually living this.
This is One My most favorite Bands of All time. Starting listening to them since 5th grade. Blessed to have seen them countless times in My lifetime. Even more blessed when My Son and I were able to make long lasting memories attending their shows together.
Three of the greatest musicians to have ever lived...with one also being the *single* greatest lyricist...hands down...came together to create the greatest band, period.
Neil Peart (Drummer/ Lyricist) was a poet philosopher and arguably one of the top three greatest drummers of all time. R.I.P professor Good reaction and review
I'm so pleased that you're enjoying this music - AND Neil Peart's very personal, philosophical lyrics - both of which were so meaningful to me when I was younger. This was a very personally meaningful album, and was my entry point for my life-long appreciation for these three great musicians, composers and performers.
I enjoyed this reaction SO MUCH! I love Rush and it's great that you appreciate them too, even at your young age 🤣 Such a huge loss that Neil passed away - as percussionist and lyricist, I can't imagine anyone will ever top his talent!
I saw Rush at the Boston Garden during the signals tour. Geddy was still using the mini moog and lots of oberheim synths. You can hear the rickenbacker bass cutting through.
I watch a ton of your reactions but this is one of my favorites now. I have been a Rush fan for 45 years and your reaction to it mirrors the way I felt hearing it for the first time and the way I still feel hearing the awesomeness of their music today. Live Xanadu is epic but anything would be good to me.
AWESOME song to experience live...First saw Rush in 1979, then seven more times over the next few decades. "Snakes n Arrows" was my last show. RIP Neal...always keep good thoughts for Alex n Geddy.
To fully appreciate these three men as musicians is to watch them play in a live setting as a cohesive unit. Masters of the instruments they play, and friends that fully get each other on a human level. Geddy Lee, singer, bass guitarist, and keyboards, juggling all three on some songs and making it look easy. Neil Peart, The Professor, a walking metronome of percussive precision whose drumming is aspirational for most would-be drummers, with a poet's soul crafting lyrics of depth, honesty, and integrity. Alex Lifeson, guitarist extraordinaire, is stealthy in his abilities compared to other shredding ax wielders, but at the same time, he is so underappreciated. Watch their induction by Dave Grohl and the late Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, the band's acceptance speeches, and the three-song set they play...and the real RUSH is there in all of their glory. Wacky, brilliant, gifted, and amazing. One of Canada's greatest gifts to the world was this band!
Rush is at the elite level of musical talent. Neil Peart (drums) is arguably the greatest percussionist in rock. There is a live drum solo in Frankford that you should check out. Geddy Lee's (vocals, bass, keyboards) voice is so unique in range and sound that, sings, plays bass, and pedal keyboards all at the same time. Alex Lifeson, (guitar, keyboards, backup vocals) to me he was the weak link in the band until I saw them live, dude blew me away.
Rush is also considered the band other musicians were fans of as well as the millions of regular fans world wide, if were to talk to many musicians and as thei favorite Drummer, favorite Bassist, & Guitarist it would be three together & individually... Neil Peart, the drummer wrote almost ALL of their lyrics. RIP Neil (The Professor)
Interesting hearing reactions to music I started listening to in my teen years. Neil's lyrics are profound. My first concert was this tour in 82 at 14. One of my top bands along with Yes, Floyd, Zep, etc.
the genius of RUSH is how they construct their songs and making odd time sound like common groove time - this intro opens in 7/8 odd time then shifts seamless into 4/4 common time but drums adds after beat within to the groove of backbeat 2 n 4 Alex's guitar has ska influence here then band accent hits which is 4:3 creates a time against time sounds. Of course the subject matter is genius how everyone can relate to this song life experiences - great job on breaking down a legendary musician's band
Its wonderfull to see a sister enjoy Rush. Neil , the drummer wrote they'er lyrics for more than 40 years. You found your band. Hun. 😊 take a look at R40 live tour cut and see they 'er. Mastery in action. It will blow your mind. Peace baby Britt girl❤
Saw them Live and they were even better live! Neil was always reading and writing the lyrics...that's why between the music & cool lyrics, they were an amazingly talented band....with staying power.
I saw them live and I have so much fun watching them have fun , the actually enjoyed themselves while playing their music and you can't say that for almost any other band.
I was a senior in HS when this song came out. I lived in a suburb of Dallas, TX. Garland, TX to be exact. We had 4 HS in Garland, and many "Subdivisions" of homes around those HS. Neil Peart, the drummer and lyricist for the band, summed up HS so perfectly then. In our school, their was 5 cliques: The Socials (richer students who were considered the elite), The Jocks (self explained, Football, Basketball players, etc.), The Geeks (the brains of the school, the thespians, and outsiders, we didn't have the term Goth yet), The Freaks (heavy metal listeners, dope smokers, and mischief makers), and the Ropers (the skoal dipping, cowboy boot and wrangler jean wearing guys and girls-the girls didn't dip). If you weren't a social or jock, those 2 groups could intermingle, you were a cast out. Later in the 80's, John Hughes summed it up with the classic "The Breakfast Club".
I grew up in a rural town where, let's just say,I didn't belong. A popular target for faraway laughter and jock bullying. I literally hated my life in that place. Only two things got me through it; my dreams of someday being a rock star on tour opening for Van Halen or AC/DC,and this particular song. I remember all of a sudden feeling like somebody was speaking to me when I heard this song. It was powerful. Drummer Neil Peart also writes most all the lyrics. He was a deep thinker and a huge reader. His vocabulary had no limit. In some ways this song gave me strength when I needed it most. Rush is a very intelligent band that just rocks like no other, and there's only 3 guys making it happen! And losing Neil was a hard blow to the world of music. Another great example of his lyrical genius is "Limelight". That's all I'm going to say about it. But I do hope to one day see your reaction for it
Great reaction to an amazing band and song. In case you didn't know Rush is just a trio. Neil Peart, the drummer and lyricist, Geedy Lee, The singer, bass player and keyboard player , and Alex Liefson on guitar. These guys are amazing and have a ton of music to react to.
@@jorgegonzalezobrgegon4193 It is a take on the phrase "the rat race" - which equates humans to rats attempting to earn a reward such as cheese (money), in vain - the competitive struggle to get ahead financially. Working and working an exhausting, repetitive lifestyle that leaves no time for relaxation or enjoyment. The ticking traps line that follows is a reference to punching a time clock at a job.
I will be honest with you Britt, I don't like most of your reactions but every now and then you listen to a song or a band and we can see you 'connect', you instantly get it!!!!!!! I just love that and it is so much fun to watch along with you when this happens! I look forward to the next time!
Yes, the lyrics and awesome drumming/percussion provided by the genius poet Neil Peart. And you spoke about it sounding "futuristic" from the '80's, and your mention of what they thought 2023 might be like, musically, is interesting. And that means you now have to listen to "2112". As always, RIP to "The Professor".
Hey Britt, loved it how you "went off" to this particular song. - Nice to see, that people of your age can appreciate and enjoy "real" music. Keep on going with your reactions, love them.
Rush lyrics are all about life ,y the drummer besides being one of the great drummers ever is also a very deep lyrical writer, This is an extremely deep rabbit hole of songs get ready to expect the unexpected with this band
Thanks Britt. Neil Pert ,RIP, the Greatest Drummer ever, Geddy did the vocals, bass, and keyboards. A 3 man band. Out of Canada, the song is about the lib fantasy land they lived which sadly has bled into America. That is why this old tune is sooooo real!
Loved your reaction, and agree wholeheartedly. These three guys are(were) musical titans. Neil Peart(RIP) was and still is the prototype of the modern rock drummer and in my opinion the "yardstick" by which all rock drummers since are measured against.
Oh, and Dalmation Dogs 2 most media relations were "Fire Departments" and the Disney film "101 Dalmatians (the villain wanted 101 to make a fur coat ".
I think I mentioned this in another reaction, but the drummer, Neil, lost his family in the 90's and took a break from Rush to ride his motorcycle around the world to deal with his grief. He wrote all of their lyrics and has always been an introvert. Losing his family made him more so.
Rush’s lyrics are amazing - they alway are. But it’s so hard to accept that all this music comes from only three guys. Check out their live version of “Spirit of Radio” and watch how just three men produce such a full, rich sound.
Loved your reaction Britt , it's exactly how we reacted when it came out!
Glad you enjoyed it!!

Alex also provides vocals from time to time. They all have fasanating backgrounds/childhoods.
Another banger by the dynamic trio
I really would like to thank you for reacting to subdivisions.
It's my first time watching your channel and I just subscribed.
Thank you so very much
Britt, you are absolutely GORGEOUS and seeing you react to this music makes you look even beautifuller!!
So many memories thank you ❤
Please do more RUSH, youre enjoyment of lyrics and musicianship....they will not let you down!!!
From west coast Canada 🇨🇦, peace.
I'm a Rush fan from way back and there are a lot of good ones from them. This is my favorite.
Glad you enjoyed it!!
So many never comprehend the message sent..You do..❤
"Some will sell their dreams for small desires or lose the race to rats" is one of my favorite lyrics ever
It's a great lyric!
I don't understand the lose the race to rats
@@jorgegonzalezobrgegon4193 It is a take on the phrase "the rat race" - which equates humans to rats attempting to earn a reward such as cheese (money), in vain - the competitive struggle to get ahead financially. Working and working an exhausting, repetitive lifestyle that leaves no time for relaxation or enjoyment.
The ticking traps line that follows is a reference to punching a time clock at a job.
@@christophercattieThanks a million Chris I'm not born english speaker, Rush lyrics were my main teacher, kind regards
I have to watch this every once in awhile because I dig the song and your reaction is spicy icing! lol
I will be honest with you Britt, I don't like most of your reactions but every now and then you listen to a song or a band and we can see you 'connect', you instantly get it!!!!!!! I just love that and it is so much fun to watch along with you when this happens! I look forward to the next time!
Y'all pay attention Miss Britt nailed it "music is trash today". You need more Rush girl.
Love this song. Thanks for reacting to it Britt!
Glad you enjoyed it!!
You should do the video it's just shows their incredible talent that each of the members are capable of.
This song was my anthem as a young man in the early 80's. It really hit home for me.
Love Rush! Keep it coming!
Hey Britt, loved it how you "went off" to this particular song. - Nice to see, that people of your age can appreciate and enjoy "real" music.
Keep on going with your reactions, love them.
RUSH is definitely a rabbit hole you want to go down
Rush lyrics are all about life ,y the drummer besides being one of the great drummers ever is also a very deep lyrical writer, This is an extremely deep rabbit hole of songs get ready to expect the unexpected with this band
Definitely in my top 5 Rush songs! Great album, great concert! All 3 guys are geniuses! Rest in peace Neil Peart!
First time I heard this was at Junior Prom in High School. Yes, Dalmations are Unicorns. And some realities are perpetual.
I think I mentioned this in another reaction, but the drummer, Neil, lost his family in the 90's and took a break from Rush to ride his motorcycle around the world to deal with his grief. He wrote all of their lyrics and has always been an introvert. Losing his family made him more so.
I love this song so much! Geddy's voice fits perfect.
You have just been RUSH rabbit holes! It's an incredible journey!! Great reaction, keep the RUSH coming!
Rush’s lyrics are amazing - they alway are. But it’s so hard to accept that all this music comes from only three guys. Check out their live version of “Spirit of Radio” and watch how just three men produce such a full, rich sound.
A great song, Great reaction!!
thanks!
