      I always said that the drums in this song made the song.bill is soo underrated. Jon bonam always wanted to do a song wth black sabbath. led zep& black sabbath. the songs he said he wanted to do I think we're supernaught& symptoms of the universe.

    Realize how fresh this song was for this performance. It was literally still in the formative stage before the album had been released (hence, different lyrics) so yeah, they were all completely into it because it was brand new to them as well as the audience. Wish I could go back to listen to some of these songs for the first time again

    • @LJA46

      Exactly! So much talent that they could write two completely different versions had they chose to do so! Saw them in '78 after they perfected a lot of songs!

      I still LOVE “People running like they’re sheep in fields. People blowing out their minds.” Such gut punching line. Kinda wish they kept it.

    • @SylviusTheMad
      @SylviusTheMad 3 місяці тому

      @@realscience948 Several reasons. First, yes, it was new. It was in fact very new, because the song originally had completely different lyrics (it was called Walpurgis, about the festival of witchcraft still celebrated in Germany as Walpurgisnacht), so Ozzy actually drifts into those lyrics for a bit. But thirdly, Ozzy was just terrible at remembering lyrics, which is why he started using a teleprompter on stage by 1978.

    this song was originally written as a dark song about witches at Walpurgis Night "night of 30 april to first of may" but do to the fact that the Vietnam war had become very real in the UK do to US troops staying in Britian for recreation etc. the guys in sabbath "and most young men in the UK" feared a draft coming so they changed the song into a anti war song turning the politicians and millitary leaders into the witches and satans servants. In this early live version Ozzy actually mixes booth versions lyrics as it was so freshly rewritten : D
    The song Hand of doom on the same album "paranoid" was directly inspired by them meeting young US vietnam veterans who had been totally destroyed by the war and addicted to Heroin to cope

That guy had an endless skill for writing songs on the fly.

    Black Sabbath (the original band) was a powerhouse and even Led Zeppelin could not match their intensity in the 70's... Black Sabbath's (unofficial) live album "Live at last" ... is one of the greatest live records and it was not overdubbed or altered in the studio, w/ some rare tracks like "Tomorrow's dream" ... "Cornucopia"... 🤘🤘🔥🔥 The album was re-released as a double live CD 'Past Lives'... w/ another live gig from 1975.
    Sabbath did release a live DVD filmed in 1978 titled "Never say die live" ... but the band members were messed up on drugs and alcohol and the performance was somewhat over-the-top.
    The Black Sabbath reunion tour was captured in the concert video 'The Last Supper' in 1999 w/ interviews of Ozzy, Tony, Geezer and Bill.
