I also don't get why the actions and views of someone who died nearly 90 years ago is grounds to block and sanitize that persons creative work. I'm pretty sure people can understand separating the art from the artist.
Fear of the
I fail to see how themes of the fear of the unknown, fear of forbidden knowledge is dangerous to one’s sanctity, fear of one’s insignificance in an uncaring world, and fear of messing with forces beyond our understanding are inherently racist. Even the fear of having a monster in your bloodline isn’t necessarily racist either, though I will absolutely admit it probably did for lovecraft.
I’m happy to say that Lovecraft the man was racist even for the time, but it’s simply false to say all his work is irredeemably tied to his world view.

These types of people will never seem to understand: people generally dislike being told what to do, and will instead do the opposite of what they've been told just out of spite. That's how humans behave (when their lives aren't in mortal danger, that is).
It's completely useless too, because every group will do their own thing regardless. That's the nature and beauty of these games. You can have "progressives", Christians, Muslims, Nazis, communists, liberals, conservatives, etc etc playing their games with their own set of rules, without anybody ever knowing about it. If nobody knows or comes to your table, then they can never assert themselves as an authority no matter how hard people scream their opinion of it. As long as you have fun within the group itself, it's fine.
It seems the whole point of roleplay is lost on these people in games mostly about roleplay.

The place where you're supposed to escape from reality reminds them of real life because they live in a fairy tale. What do I mean by this? For the past 3-5 years they've entered a 'nazi panic' even though there's no evidence of a great fascist uprising starting anywhere, basically when you're playing as a nazi that triggers them because it reminds them of the nazi coup d'eta that only exists in their deluded minds.
RPGs are still part of real life, just one that significantly uses your imagination. I never considered it "escape". Just a fun thing to play with friends, yes.
Sometimes you need an escape. Sometimes life really does make you want to find the rabbit hole to Wonderland and never come out. The funny thing is, is the people on _that side_ that seek escapism just like us, *_are also the people who will try everything in their power to rip the fantasy from your wonderland and never let you escape from "current crisis of the day" to give you no escape._* Cultural fascism. The whole vampire 5th ed manual, starting from the art direction, is basically a glamourization and sanitization of the vampire concept, with many clans portrayed with art that would be right for fashion figures. Along with the push to play the kind of vampire the creators want you to play (the rebel fighting against the system) it basically says" I can be a violent monster and be cool, but not if I wrongthink". I wonder if that conclusion reflects the stance on political violence of the creators in any way....

@@RipOffProductionsLLC My man, I suggest you sail the high seas and take a look at the manual. They now look like cool dudes right off the "Derelict" show in Zoolander. I said "most" just because the toreador still exist and they are kind of acceptable as fashion victims (even if honestly it would be appropriate just for vampires that got embraced yesterday). The art direction in general I find horrible as it seems they tried to convey the felling of a fashion magazine like "Vogue" both in the images (a lot of photos) and the fonts and even the text layout. The old editions had a lot of black and white, some sick ink work and what was photographic was heavily filtered like the work of Shy. This feels extremely "meh" in comparison imho.

Been wanting to start a dnd channel the issue is every time I run dnd we deal with dark themes we had a group of kidnapped children kill themselves for a ritual which spawned a favorite quote among the group "Quickly kill the orphans!" Not to mention that one player was playing a hooker the entire game. I've been hesitant to do this becuase it seems like the internet only wants the story of the 'good guy's but after listening to your video I'm realizing its less a lack of interest an a lack of content. Gonna be getting to work on that channel soon just wanted to thank you for a surprising eye opener

i love how the npcs are putting in whole pages of "how" you should play a freeform rpg. i also find it grand that they think the book we get for the rpg isn't immune to a marker pen or a sticky note of a dickbutt to put over said "Don't be what we don't like" page. My example is when i was playing a Scion game awhile ago and they stated Guan Yu (My Scion's ancestor) is rethinking his toxic masculine ways. My GM tossed that out and made Guan Yu the manliest man to ever man as he should. Bet they changed that line with the Chinese release like the spinless cowards they are.

I love the categories on that checklist. You either enthusiastically consent, or you don't want it in the game without talking about it first. There's no "I'm not a fan, but it's okay to include it". Because god forbid you accomodate anyone. God forbid you tell them DM "Hey, I have pretty bad arachnophobia. I know it's unreasonable, and I don't want to ruin other peoples enjoyment, but if there's not a specific reason for there to be giant spiders or something, can we just replace them with something else? If we have a session involving the Drow, then sure, I'll suck it up, but just give the regular bad guys giant scorpions or something instead."

That's the fun thing about moral puritans. They can tell that going in a direction is moral, and so they go full speed ahead into it, completely unaware of moral considerations that might not be able to be accomodated (Like say, letting people have fun), or the practical costs of their 'purity'. All other values are subsumed in their fixated moral focus.

So, I created a new system for a western campaign for my group, someone decided to play as a black sherif to reference blazing saddles. I told my group up front that I would be using let's say 'era appropriate' language in the campaign towards this character. He Did get a perk of +20 to intimidation though lol.
Side note, the system i created is really fun to play, still really rough though, when I gloss up that roughness I'll probably post it or publish it somewhere

I solve one riddle. The "by night" thing is because older editions of VtM released a series of campaign books detailing the local supernatural elements in a city and surrounding area.
I'd have to check a full list but I think there was a Chicago, Montreal, LA, DC, New York, Mexico city, Berlin and a few others.

This was a soothing balm to the experience I just had on Lore by Night's discord.
One dude brought up the previous editions Nazi characters and everyone lost their minds. He was banned for being a 'fascist' and they released a new rule where LbN said he doesn't feel anyone should ever roleplay a fascist, protagonist or antagonist.
I had to leave the server after that level of stupid.
We just wanted to play tabletop roleplaying games...

for good reason tbh. fate is incredibly boring as a system. its taking the godawful 3e D&D idea of the "unified mechanic" and applying it to everything. completely bland and uninteresting.
@@ichisichify Fate Core rules are problematic. The risk of character death is pushed away, characters are cinematically special and must go on.
Also, every conceivable tactical advantage, big or small, expressed as Aspects or Stunts, is the same size: a +2 or re-roll. Heaven forbid you QUANTIFY things, because that might be like a Chaosium Inc. game in the Basic RolePlaying system where you have 60+ Skills and you might have to do (gasp!) two-digit math! This might expose the flaws of schools with Participation Prizes and Certificates of Attendance...
