The new grounds situation was basically that Pelo made a story time animator parody that made fun of people like the Odd1sOut, all of the parodied youtubers were fine with it but Arin had a pissy fit and said it was mean-spirited. He said he remembered being made fun of on new grounds and not wanting a similar thing happen to others, but oneyng called him out publicly for that because Arin was always respected on new grounds and abandoning the platform that gave him his career. He essentially summarised the entire newgrounds community as toxic assholes when it was very clear to the actual users that was not the case. Since then oney cut ties with him because he realised how much of an asshole Arin was. Arin considers his current career path and personality WAY more developed than say a decade ago, but if anything he got worse. TL;DR, said the n word a bunch of times to a black guy, got offended at something that wasn’t even targeting him while calling out the creator for being an asshole, then called his starting point a toxic community despite it being more developed since it’s starting years and being coddled while he was within said community.

I feel like the writers really didn't understand who Dan and Arin would naturally be good acting like. They are both pretty light hearted guys with a lot of optimism, and Arin isn't actually an angry guy irl, so forcing him to be "grumpy" isn't actually true to his personality and strengths. Dan could be directed so much better, cause he tends to overact and pretty much do his NSP music video type of acting. He just needs better direction, and a lot more training

What I remember most about this show is how Arin and Dan constantly talked about the acting lessons they were taking, and how great they were getting at acting, and how proud they were of their acting in it. Needless to say, Danny acts more convincingly in his NSP music videos from like a decade ago.
Well, one of their greatest strengths is improv humor. That’s why people love their let’s plays so much, bc while they know what their playing, that’s just it. They don’t have a script or a storyboard for what’s going to happen in each episode. They just decide on a game to do a series on, play that game, and come up with jokes and talk about stuff like normal people, and I think that’s what people enjoy. The fact that it’s just two dudes cracking jokes and just having a good time. Which is why as soon as you you give them a script, they freak out a little, because they are just regular people. They know how to make a joke when the time is just right, or relate to the audience, but it’s hard to tell a story because they don’t tell stories, they improvise. Fml why did I just waist a bunch of my time typing this rant lol. Have a good day

He's only listed as a Executive Producer (alongside like 8 other people), which is industry lingo for "literally did nothing besides paying the bills". The actual writers seemed to be Jesse Cox and Michele Morrow, both of which afaict have only been involved with podcasts and youtuber vanity projects. The director, Danny Jelinek, is pretty much the only one with real, professional experience, and his most impressive prior work is being one of Jimmy Kimmel Live!'s several directors.

He can carry a tune alright but most of the stuff he does is generic synth driven pop music. The only thing carrying NSP is the gimmick. The name Good Game was already taken by an actual good show from ABC Australia. They even used the same font as that show! If this came out in 2017, it would explain why that show dropped the Good Game name during that year and cancelled the original series.

Oney plays feels so corporate, and I know game grumps pushes merch frequently as well but not every single video, and game grumps don’t do nearly as much community post ads either. Idk the backlash for his first game grump video was deserved. Although made some good and valid points, he was so hateful and made some bastardized claims and assumptions
I really liked this show when I was younger. It felt more like a proof of concept than an actual show, and I think that kind of thing appeals to a lot of aspiring creative types because it gets the gears turning on changes you'd want to see. I find myself drawn to a lot of uninspired or unfinished feeling media because it feels more productive to create a good show while watching a mediocre one than it does to enjoy a show that's already good. It's unintentionally interactive, or more cynically and conspiratorially, shows are now being released raw because fans reworking the materials given to them into something actually decent and complete drives engagement. If you can't make something good enough to garner an organic fanbase, make something so egregiously mediocre that creatives ruminate over your shortcomings in video essays, create fanworks that flesh out your halfbaked ideas, and ultimately drive more traffic to you, much like when youtubers intentionally put typos in their thumbnails to get comments correcting the typo in order to drive up engagement to the detriment of the quality of the overall product/video.
I like this a lot! I see your perspective. especially with the ‘drawn to uninspired/unfinished things’. I’m kinda like that too, honestly. Inspired by things that are uninspiring or are just... out there, or something. It’s that emptiness that makes you, a creator, want to fulfill. Don't get me wrong, I really like the Grumps, I think they're funny for the most part. But this series wasn't...good, at all. I'm surprised on how bad the Grumps acting is, since they can be naturally funny and bounce off each other pretty well. This just felt like it was a cool idea with bad execution

Idk, Jon and Arin had kind of an awkward dynamic. There would often be weirdly heated arguments and uncomfortable silences in the older videos that are a stark contrast to the Dan videos. It seems like there was a lot of tension and behind-the-scenes stuff that made things awkward

@@SuperTeeter64 The thing about Arin, what I notice, is that he's the type of person who only wants gameplay to be akin to be Castlevania or Mega Man all the time. Having no text in a game makes sense in terms of keeping flow steady, especially in the NES days, but a major reason as to why text is not done too often was because that was what the instruction booklet was for. And with an NES/SNES controller, there aren't much buttons to work with that aren't already done better by the likes of Mario or Mega Man. Within 3D space, there's still the booklet, but now characters refer to actions by button combinations to demonstrate how those buttons work in-game. And when done right and not turned into a Gaebora Character, it can work well. That being said, more often than not we get Gaeboras and it can get annoying, but I think that characters talking about actions the player can do can work. It's mostly Arin thinking he can brute force the action in a similar way you can brute force Mega Man, which is the major problem at the end of the day. Because he's nostalgia blind, he believes himself that he can just force his way through the game without thinking about how to get past the section, whining when he fails because he can't just do what he wants to do and has to come up with something else to get past. Compare that to Danny, who tries to look at the situation to find the best possible solution to the problem. Sure, he may do something dumb, but don't we all do that every so often? Using a Breath of the Wild example for the allegory, Danny approaches Death Mountain, but notices he's on fire. He either goes back the way he came to buy Fireproof Elixirs (likely also grinding for Rupees to buy the elixirs) after either dying once or taking a few hearts of damage. He notices his preferred wooden weapons are burning up and may have lost a few weapons, so he equips metal weapons to mitigate the problem. Arin would just go in, game over, and try to get all the shrines so he can brute force the game through sheer hearts. He'd lose all his wooden weapons and lose a few hearts to some Fire Chuchus before finally trying to pull a metal weapon to fend it off. Still game over due to the Chuchus exploding into fire.

@@Mattmann97 I don't want to get too into it, the info is available if you search hard enough, but essentially; Dan has been sexting and hooking up with fans for years, and then proceeds to ghost them afterwards (with the fans often being 10 years younger than him). This usually happens on tours. That in itself isn't the worst (but its certainly not great). The BIG issue is that he was caught grooming a 17 year old until she was legal age, where he then began sexting her and eventually hooked up with, and ghosted her too. And, though not confirmed, it seems like there was some overlap of time where he dated both this younger girl and his current girlfriend. The hookups story has far too many instances to be untrue, but there is still some uncertainty to the 17 year old story. But, according the the people who compile all the game grumps controversies on UA-cam and Reddit, the accuser has provided them with text conversations that prove the dates and she's proven her age. The screenshots just arn't public, but I'm inclined to believe it considering Dan's sexual history with young 20 year olds. EDIT: Also thank you for taking the time to read this, very much appreciated.

He's only listed as a Executive Producer (alongside like 8 other people), which is industry lingo for "literally did nothing besides paying the bills".
The actual writers seemed to be Jesse Cox and Michele Morrow, both of which afaict have only been involved with podcasts and youtuber vanity projects. The director, Danny Jelinek, is pretty much the only one with real, professional experience, and his most impressive prior work is being one of Jimmy Kimmel Live!'s several directors.

He can carry a tune alright but most of the stuff he does is generic synth driven pop music. The only thing carrying NSP is the gimmick. I enjoyed Game Grumps talking about their journey on Good Game during their Breath of the Wild playthrough more than Good Game itself
The name Good Game was already taken by an actual good show from ABC Australia. They even used the same font as that show! If this came out in 2017, it would explain why that show dropped the Good Game name during that year and cancelled the original series.

Oney plays feels so corporate, and I know game grumps pushes merch frequently as well but not every single video, and game grumps don’t do nearly as much community post ads either. I really liked this show when I was younger. It felt more like a proof of concept than an actual show, and I think that kind of thing appeals to a lot of aspiring creative types because it gets the gears turning on changes you'd want to see. I find myself drawn to a lot of uninspired or unfinished feeling media because it feels more productive to create a good show while watching a mediocre one than it does to enjoy a show that's already good.
It's unintentionally interactive, or more cynically and conspiratorially, shows are now being released raw because fans reworking the materials given to them into something actually decent and complete drives engagement. If you can't make something good enough to garner an organic fanbase, make something so egregiously mediocre that creatives ruminate over your shortcomings in video essays, create fanworks that flesh out your halfbaked ideas, and ultimately drive more traffic to you, much like when youtubers intentionally put typos in their thumbnails to get comments correcting the typo in order to drive up engagement to the detriment of the quality of the overall product/video.
I like this a lot! I see your perspective. especially with the ‘drawn to uninspired/unfinished things’. I’m kinda like that too, honestly. Inspired by things that are uninspiring or are just... out there, or something. It’s that emptiness that makes you, a creator, want to fulfill. Though I didn’t really feel inspired by this series, like.. at all.. (and I never heard of it either until now) in a way, it still matters. Like you can take this series’s concept and make something good and original out of it. Ya know? Or improve the existing thing and make it better.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the Grumps, I think they're funny for the most part. But this series wasn't...good, at all. I'm surprised on how bad the Grumps acting is, since they can be naturally funny and bounce off each other pretty well. This just felt like it was a cool idea with bad execution

Idk, Jon and Arin had kind of an awkward dynamic. There would often be weirdly heated arguments and uncomfortable silences in the older videos that are a stark contrast to the Dan videos. It seems like there was a lot of tension and behind-the-scenes stuff that made things awkward

@@SuperTeeter64 The thing about Arin, what I notice, is that he's the type of person who only wants gameplay to be akin to be Castlevania or Mega Man all the time. Having no text in a game makes sense in terms of keeping flow steady, especially in the NES days, but a major reason as to why text is not done too often was because that was what the instruction booklet was for. And with an NES/SNES controller, there aren't much buttons to work with that aren't already done better by the likes of Mario or Mega Man. Within 3D space, there's still the booklet, but now characters refer to actions by button combinations to demonstrate how those buttons work in-game. And when done right and not turned into a Gaebora Character, it can work well. That being said, more often than not we get Gaeboras and it can get annoying, but I think that characters talking about actions the player can do can work. It's mostly Arin thinking he can brute force the action in a similar way you can brute force Mega Man, which is the major problem at the end of the day. Because he's nostalgia blind, he believes himself that he can just force his way through the game without thinking about how to get past the section, whining when he fails because he can't just do what he wants to do and has to come up with something else to get past. Compare that to Danny, who tries to look at the situation to find the best possible solution to the problem. Sure, he may do something dumb, but don't we all do that every so often?
Using a Breath of the Wild example for the allegory, Danny approaches Death Mountain, but notices he's on fire. He either goes back the way he came to buy Fireproof Elixirs (likely also grinding for Rupees to buy the elixirs) after either dying once or taking a few hearts of damage. He notices his preferred wooden weapons are burning up and may have lost a few weapons, so he equips metal weapons to mitigate the problem. Arin would just go in, game over, and try to get all the shrines so he can brute force the game through sheer hearts. He'd lose all his wooden weapons and lose a few hearts to some Fire Chuchus before finally trying to pull a metal weapon to fend it off. Still game over due to the Chuchus exploding into fire.

@@Mattmann97 I don't want to get too into it, the info is available if you search hard enough, but essentially; Dan has been sexting and hooking up with fans for years, and then proceeds to ghost them afterwards (with the fans often being 10 years younger than him). This usually happens on tours. That in itself isn't the worst (but its certainly not great). The BIG issue is that he was caught grooming a 17 year old until she was legal age, where he then began sexting her and eventually hooked up with, and ghosted her too. And, though not confirmed, it seems like there was some overlap of time where he dated both this younger girl and his current girlfriend.
The hookups story has far too many instances to be untrue, but there is still some uncertainty to the 17 year old story. But, according the the people who compile all the game grumps controversies on UA-cam and Reddit, the accuser has provided them with text conversations that prove the dates and she's proven her age. The screenshots just arn't public, but I'm inclined to believe it considering Dan's sexual history with young 20 year olds.
