Thanks for the breakdown. I’ve been playing WOD since first edition. By that I mean vampire, werewolf, mage, and more. To this day I’ve got second edition games going ( never felt the need to go beyond). Having said that I’ve bought 5th edition and everything else in between ( Completionist reasons). Many of the books I’ve used for ideas and to expand what Lore I already have. I only gave 5th edition a glance. Now I think I’ll give it a closer look . Thanks!

Really helpful video! I've been looking for more ttrpg games to play other than d&d and pathfinder that are more horror focused. Great breakdown on all the different aspects of the game

Ventrue is simply the best clan. I play Ventrue but my desire is to regain my lost humanity. That simple tweek drastically changes my characters relationship with the rest of the game world. As a devoted member of the Camarilla I am occasionally compelled to dissolve a traitor in a barrel but as someone with influence in the Camarilla I am able to assign a coterie the mission of rescuing someone that was kidnapped.
I am constantly trying to regain my humanity in a world that is constantly making that difficult.
I have been pretty successful so far but I am a Ventrue. These burdens fall upon me because I am a blue blood. I am able to handle it.
@@soldier4242 didn't get any of what you said. Trying to regain humanity with any clan changes how you see the world. And I can explain myself why they are boring.
They have nothing, generic usage of Presence combined with generic usage of dominate and fortitude, just to be sure they will not die in 3 seasons after demending too much for their own good. And on top of the cherry, all Ventrue are kind of the same guy, with different perks, they just want power.
Other clans compared to the "kings"
Brujah - The local rebel, may be rebaling against whatever you want and however you want. It may be a schooler, philosopher who uses his presence and knowedge to motivate others, or it can be a wild card who allowes the fists to do the talking. Just adding the "rebel" to the mix allows you to create such a huge diversity of characters with it.
Ravnos - Again they use presence, but they are wild as fuck. You can mix their presence in so many ways with animalism or obfuscate, creating character coming froma circus, abusing their powers to create illusions people never saw, to brutal assassin.
The ministry - totally wild clan. Do hallucionations, lock people in place by looking them in the eyes, a religous fanatic, a nichilistic atheist. So many ways to play with this clan, and all of them can do the do in the proper chronicle.
@@Grebeny You don't like or understand my character concept fine. It seems to me that you relate to the game through the use of disciplines. You don't like the clan disciplines of the Ventrue so you don't like the clan. I enjoy the politics.
I don't really create "powerful" characters. My main does have 5 does of resources and I am in an elevated position in the Camarilla so any attack on me is likely to land the attacker and their associates in hot water but outside of that my disciplines are 4 dots in dominate, 3 dots in fortitude and 2 dots in presence. I'm not much of a power gamer. I am sure your characters would be able to assassinate mine easily. I am hoping that if we were in a game together that you would enjoy having me at the table to so much you would just choose not to do that.
@@soldier4242 not only disciplines. I count, clan composure, bane, attitude, history and so on. And all of that combined with the lore of the clan is pretty much. "we want to rule, no matter what". Even when you check at Ventrue in anarch movement, they are pretty much the same, but without the fancy bloodline speaches.
What you explained for your character is a concept that can be played with almost every clan. I don't understand what "I want to regain humanity, but I am ventrue" have to do. "I want to regain humanity, but I am Brujah", "I want to regain humanity, but I am gangrel". Actually not only, but its main mechanic that all vampires want to regain or at least keep as much humanity as they can.

Vampire is more of a game for adults, as it's going to have a lot of mature themes. While you can certainly run a clean game, the lore has heavy themes of violence, seduction, and corruption.
I’d recommend playing a modified game of dread or D&D for younger players!
I'm confused, let's say your dice pool doesn't reach the level of difficulty. You are rolling with a dice pool of 5 but the difficulty is at a 8 how would that work since it won't be a success
You answered your own question. It won’t be a success. It’s an impossible task for most characters, and stupidly unlikely for a select few.
The storyteller wouldn’t set the difficulty that high if it were something your character could reasonably accomplish.
If 4 of the 5 dice rolled a 10, you’d have 8 successes. If the other die was also a success, you could have 9. Right?
In the case you mentioned, it is still theoretically possible, they would just need to get multiple crits.
In the case of likely failure, it would be good to talk about the degree to which they failed
Essentially it's basically an Auto-fail.

I've often wondered that myself. Just what the hell are you people doing in these games that requires consent and safety tools? That's a level of hardcore TTRPG I'm not familiar with.
@@Adam-M- VtM v5 has two sourcebooks on Cults. Vampire Cannibalism is a thing with mechanics, and there's literally a way to magically make someone your slave. Not to mention the Sexual themes that can show up, as the Bite bring Sexual Pleasure. Yeah shit can get dark.
the storyteller killed my vampire, because she was too badass for the plot. It ruined my 1 and only Masquerade experience.
