Nvidia RTX 2080 Super Review: Is The Top-End Super Fast Enough?

- Опубліковано 23 лип 2019
- The final product in Nvidia's trio of 'Super' RTX graphics upgrades has arrived - and it's safe to say that it's more of a replacement to the existing RTX 2080 as opposed to the more interesting price/perf boosts found in RTX 2060 Super and 2070 Super. Still, it is the second fastest GeForce on the market - and can it be OCed to get close to 2080 Ti? Find out here.

"Proper review". LOL.
@@nossy232323 i would say this is most professional channel because of their testing background compared to IT troubleshooting boys youtuber man-childs following the hate trend...
This is the only professional review of the 2080 SUPER. All the other so-called reviewers just mocked Nvidia and this GPU just for the sake of it or because it's supposed to be funny or something. Even GamersNexus who usually don't fall for that sort of thing dropped the ball with this one. Thanks for the proper professional review, no matter how pointless it feels.
It`s not that weak after heavy OC TWEAK :D yup agree, I have gifted 2080super overclocked it beyond standard overclock, now close to 13k gpu score in 3d mark time spy, quite close to stock 2080ti ;)))
In Australia they’re releasing the new cards at a premium price instead of keeping the price of the non super cards. We get ripped off big time over here.
@Growing 3D Perspective lol
Similiar in Poland
"We get ripped off big time" with Nvidia that´s almost always the case.
Patryk Lebiecki as if the Poles haven’t had enough to deal with over the decades.
NVIDIA is a scam business in plain sight.
It is extraordinary at being completely unremarkable.
The small increase in performance over the 2070S isn't worth $200.
Yup. And I'm pretty sure you can just overclock a 2080 to 2ghz to get better performance than a stock 2080s.
It is at 4K. That small boost might mean the difference of dropping down to 56 fps and staying locked 60 fps.
@@madfinntech LOL, 4 FPS is worth $200 to you. Thanks for the laugh.
@@madfinntech If you can't hit 60 then drop some settings like a normal person. There are no prizes for running everything maxed out.
Don't justify Nvidia's atrocious pricing.
@@Ninja_Champagne =b people do realize there is more to Nvidia cards then just it's power dedicated to gaming performance and Ray Tracing. But it's additional features are pointless to does who either don't play at 4k or have use to upscale the resolution to 1440p or 4k while playing at 1080p or 1440p or stream/record from a single computer. Once applying these processes on top of playing the average fps gap increases. o3o it's why they should make a 1180 and 1180ti for those who don't care for those features, that way they can sell similar performance cards for even cheaper.
This whole market is depressing.
I'm still halfway convinced there's some conspiracy to make the PC GPU market become progressively worse just before the new consoles launch so that Sony and Microsoft can say "Our $500 console is as good as a $1,000 GPU!"
Of course Nvidia wouldn't directly benefit from making consoles look good, but maybe they just don't care when they get to sell a $1,000 GPU as a standard consumer product.
@@budthecyborg4575 I seem to be in a purgatory of waiting for the "the next big thing" that should be just around the corner...
Yeah is pretty bad. Really tempting to switch back to consoles tbh.
@@budthecyborg4575I'm expecting AMD to hold back on their high end GPU until console specs are confirmed. They're in a really great position with both consoles using Navi.
@@budthecyborg4575 It's not Nvidias fault you idiots keep buying their products.
I'm gonna wait for the Super-Duper cards.
Remember when the 1080 launched at $500, and the 1080 Ti instead was $700? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
The sad part is that the 1080 Ti overclocked can meet the results of the 2080 Super. It's just a RTX series placeholder, nothing more.
and even 1080ti was considered a bad deal back then
jenesuispasbavard Actually it was only shortly before the 1080 Ti launch that the 1080 dropped to $500. The 1080 at its launch was (at least for the FE card) $700 US, though I think AIB blower cards launched at $600, with the dual fan designs being close to the FE card and triple fan, large heatsink designs being slightly more expensive than the FE card.
@@zgoaty9235 People always have short term memory of GPU prices.
I was ready for RTX. Say what you say but ray tracing is brilliant and the QoL improvements on the card are great but as I have a 1080ti, the only big jump would be the 2080ti and I'm struggling to justify it. I'll hold out until next year.
NVIDIA is the new INTEL: 10% more performance for 200 bucks more.
I prefer AMD's 10% more performance for 200 bucks less. still using a 8700k for now though
It's cheaper than the outgoing card!
@@kraenk12 : yes, the RTX 2080 was very expensive and the super is only expensive :D
What about the RX 5700 XT 50th AE? 1% more performance for 50 bucks more, hey but it's limited edition!
@@DizzyKrissi You still wrong as it's actually 10% more fore 100 buck less and if you compared to the 2070 Super, well, this kind of product segmentation is common in the industry and AMD isn't stranger to this with the last example being anniversary editions and non X (like Ryzen 1700X to 1700) CPUs

16:45 "To do so may effectively make the 2080S too powerful for it's price point"
The 2080Ti should cost $800, even then it would only be in the middle of the pack for value. The 2080 Super could have made some ground in returning sanity to the high end Nvidia stack but instead the 2080S is just a dud (especially at $700, they need to cut at least $50 off).
Only benchmarks for the 2080 Super outperforms the 1080 Ti in benchmarks, has the inclusion of RTX cores and costs less than the 1080 Ti does....
@Kronixio Right, the 2080Ti should have launched at $699.
1080ti released march 2017 for $699 is still competitive with $500+ cards 2 and a half years later. What a shame.
Why do you think? AMD has nothing. 1080 Ti beats everything AMD has to offer when it comes to gaming.
@UHD Gaming PC You do understand tho that they don't have a navi based gpu against the 2080? And you do understand that right now the 5700 and 5700 xt are amazing value against the 2060s and 2070s which they are running against? Because if you don't, you must be blind. And also, Dogsbark wasn't talking about amd at all, he just said that the progress nvidia has made in performance to price ratio has been kinda bad, which indeed is a fact. Amd isn't competing against the 2080/1080ti/2080s directly either, and you sound like a fanboy immediately which honestly is making the market suffer. Why am I waisting time, have a good day.
I will never buy another Nvidia product, and it certainly helps that I'm almost wholly opposed to the adoption of Ray Tracing on this generation of products.
I would have forked out a ton of money for a GTX2080Ti, instead I'm sitting on Vega 64 and waiting for Big Navi.
I might get two of those just for lols.
@UHD Gaming PC You make me laugh, believe me I have watched benchmarks. Maybe watch hardware unboxed good quality video about the 5700 series cards? The title might scare you tho :(
And also just so you know, I've owned several products from nvidia, and amd too. Now I'm looking for an new build and I haven't decided between the 5700xt, 2070s and 2080s watercooled. Although I'm not looking fro advice from you, you'd say probably that the 2080s is amazing value and a gift from the gods :)
Yeah. 1080ti owners have very little wiggle room for an upgrade path. I hope that changes in the next generation.
That what happens if AMD is no competition. If AMD had something to compete against the 2080 (Ti) Nvidia would be forced to do better.
i blame AMD for their own shortcomings
thats what happens when you all buy nvidia or whoever it is that has 90% marketshare
AMD had to dump all their R&D budget into Ryzen just to stay alive. Now that they're actually making money they can actually fund GPU development. Navi 20 coming early next year might be pretty good since it's supposed to be fully rdna, rather than the sort of half step between gcn and rdna that Navi 10 is.
That's what we all are waiting for!
@@Lead_Foot navi is great already. They pretty much just need to release a "bigger" version to rival the 2080.
5700xt only uses 40CU if i'm not mistaken. Imagine a version wit 56CU
Imagine if they'd just sold the RTX cards at the RRP they advertised instead of massively overpricing with $100 markup on their own store that caused all 3rd party to markup another $100 over that
J Martin I still find it amazing that the $1100-1200 2080ti can’t manage 60fps at 1080p In the modded quake 2. Cards are way overpriced. By at least $200 at nearly each level.
@@josephhooks1292 Yeah I want to upgrade from my Asus RoG GTX 1080 but it's like I don't wanna go broke just to still not be able to do great 4K.

choatus it can’t max the game out which is what I meant at 60fps. Sure if you lower the settings it can. How about use your brain and understand what people mean. Also it’s a more than 20 year old game with path tracing. A $1200 card can’t run a 20 year old game with path tracing at a decent framerate, high settings and a higher than 1080p resolution. For the amd team I would indicate today the RX Vega 56 and RX 5700 XT, for the Nvidia team would indicate the 1660Ti and the RTX 2070 Super. This is my opinion on the best cost per frame I've found on both sides.
wrichard back at it again... As always very well made and detailed video.
Another excellent video - thx. Leaves me in a tough spot with wanting to upgrade my 1080gtx though. Can’t bring myself to spend $1200 on a video card and I’m seeing prices of $739-$760 for 2080S card.
Thank you for your hard work
If the whole line was shifted down a step 2080 ti was the 2080, the 2080 was the 2070. Then this generation would have been far more competitive than its current line up.
They were almost seems going for that with the 2060s and 2070s. BUT nvidia decided not to do so with the 2080s which makes it the weakest link of the super line :V
@@Deliveredmean42 The 2080S is simply a replacement for the 2080, whereas the others are designed to fit in-between the existing GPUs on the market.
Fantastic review guys!
Bunk product. Either spend $200 less and get a 2070 Super, or spend $300 less and get a 5700 XT.
A big diappointment. I somehow truly expected more VRAM - my biggest complain about the original 2080.
Instead we get again a major boost in TDP. How's that even possible? 35W for just over 100 more CUDA cores, a 100Mhz boost and a little bit more bandwith?
Someone told me that today's graphics solutions don't need as much power anymore. Dealing with today's cards for the past two years, the opposite seems the case.
Power increase isn't linear. What may be a small increase in clock speed can mean huge power increases.
Because these are the reference cards, dummy. Just wait for manufactures to start pushing out the real performance increase
Super expensive 😮
scam business in plain sight.
How so? It's much cheaper than the regular cards at a slightly more performance increase and puts the pricing on par with AMD, but absolutely shits on the AMD cards. So better price for performance. It's super cheap (though considering the 20-series cards are super expensive).
But not ti expensive
In six months time there will probably be an NVidia RTXti 2080ti Super Duper Founders Edition
There won't be a 2080ti Super. Nvidia has already said so.

Yep
Ray tracing is a massive meme. I got a 1660 ti and that will easily tide me over until 3000 or even 4000 depending on how next gen consoles come into play.
I'm very happy with mine. I upgraded from a GTX 970 and it feel like a night and day difference.
@@webbie7503 That's the problem. Nvidia really have no competition from AMD. Especially in the enthusiast GPU market. Nvidia knows this and it's why they are pricing shit the way they price it and it's a slimmer margin it seems each time in terms of performance from one gen to the next gen of GPUs from Nvidia. I went from the GTX 1080 to the RTX 2080 but I got a decent deal on mine.
2060 S is much better value.
Thanks for all your wonderful content! I was considering upgrading to the 2080 Super mainly due to getting a 4k monitor. I really liked the framerates you were getting with the 2080 super overclocked. I never overclocked a video card before due to me worrying that it would potentially break the card. Do you feel this card can be comfortably overclocked to the settings that you did without it breaking from 1-4 hours of use per gaming session? If so how would I learn more about overclocking the card while still being as safe as possible with it? Thanks for taking the time to discuss this =)
So do you overclocked you card? I'm interrested
Any chance you’ll start including widescreen 1440p benchmarks in the future? 3440x1440 is becoming more common and it’s difficult to translate 16:9 results to real world 21:9 performance. Other than that, another excellent overview!
What happened to the dragonquest builders 2 video? And now where did the wolfenstein video go now?
Just a question why do you use the game strange brigade for a few of these graphical power demos?
I did an upgrade from 1070 to 2080S... it cost literally the same as 2080 I was looking at so I took S version.
I went from gtx 1060 to rtx 2080 super its amazing.
I will be getting this card 2020 summer once ive saved up enough to build my pc all at once. Idc what any of the trolls say because they already have a 2080 or 1080ti when it first came out. For me this should last me 5-6 years before i feel need to change out. Plus its same price as the 2080.
🤔 the 2080 super was such a disappointment
Yeah, it was a "super" disappointment.

@@killermoon635 - $100 cheaper if you're comparing Founder's Editions.
I mean what do you expect? Nvidia have these dies and they just chop them up how they please and box them into their segments based on whatever they can get away with. They're not going to put TU102 OR 100 in their xx80 card. Any faster than this and they'll cannibalise their Ti sales.
If the competition cards were competitive you'd still get something we already have anyway and the 2080 Ti would probably be sold as the 2080.
It's all just marketing. The full Turing die is the performance ceiling and you'll get a % of that at whatever price according to the market conditions at the time.

Super enough to save the extra cost of the TI and settle with it. If its overclocked. 1200 is a lot for a card. I know I am a picky person too. I would constantly be tweaking settings to get that sweat spot in resolution and quality (Rtx aside). I would only settle cause of the price, but would only really be truly happy with a TI.
5:26 I didn’t know the Witcher was also Battlefield 5
Well, at least now that this card is released you guys can finally get a much needed (and well deserved) break!
Why do you keep the cpu at 3400MHZ? Especially , like you mentioned, the frame rate limits on some of the benchmarks are CPU bound. The 8700K is capable of 4700MHZ easily and can even get 5GHZ. Is there something I’m missing?
This is why i wont upgrade my PC anymore. You have for full HD fair prices but when you go to 4k the prices are just out of control. I will buy a ps5 and wont upgrade my PC anymore. The PC Hardware manufacturer are killing the market by themselfs.

I'm not a PC gamer. But honestly, do you really _need_ the newest GPU? I doubt it. Isn't it enough with the second newest GPU since when the newest one comes out, previous ones will go down in price and you still get nearly the same performance, right?
Depends on what your monitor is. If you play at 4K or want 1440p at high framerate, you need a great GPU for new and upcoming games. 1080p at high frames is much more palatable
You don't need the highest end GPU at all, dude. I play on a 1070 and can still max games out at over 100fps, close to 144fps most of the time. There is absolutely no need for me to move anywhere above 1080p gaming (just maybe 2k) and no reason to upgrade my MSI 1080 ti. And I can enjoy an 80 fps average on all games.
Upgrading from generation to generation has always been a waste of money for any technology, it's best to skip a generation or two before upgrading.

ti > S
Many of our customers erroneously believe 1080ti is faster than a 2080s because 2080s sounds cut down. 2080ti would make more sense. They end up opting for 5700 or 5700XT anyway. We OC them as part of the build cost just like their second gen 2600/2700 chips.
Once we show them how comparable 2600 OC is to 8700k and 5700XT OC is to 2080 the decision is easy.
The reality is you cant spend that money based on one or two games you may or may not play that it might performe 5-10% more in.

~20-50fps depending on the game and resolution, but it is a fair amount better well worth the upgrade for sure.

No, the 2070, 2070S, 2080, 2080S, and 2080ti are the only cards that are made for gaming at 1440p and higher res. The next cards to have better performance than the 2080ti will be the next-gen nvidia cards next year.

because 1080ti is old and a 2070 can outperform it.
@@evolicious no it can't
@@evolicious 2070 Super can (in newer games)
In the UK the 5700xt is £380 and 2070S is £540 are able to play at 4k. Yet a 2080 is £600+
These cards never made sense in nvidias product stack in the first place. The gaps between 2060, 2070 and 2080 were just large enough to justify their pricing differences. the space between the 2070 and 2080 is so small you can OC a 2070 to 2080 stock performance in many cases.
20% of the card is Tensor and Ray Tracing but the 2080s still performs as well as a 1080ti for the same price. Turn on RTX and the 2080 super wins no contest.
The 2080 super is about 10-15% faster than a 1080ti. The 2070 super is on par with a 1080ti (mostly)
@@JZF629 awesome, do you have a 2080 super? do you play at 2k or 4k?
If these new 'Super' graphics cards struggle to run some games at 4K 60 fps then how in the hell are the PS5 and Xbox Two gonna run games at 4K 60 and be affordable systems?
Low level optmization. Like RDR2 is already running in 4K30 on underpowered Xbox One X.
If not what the other guy said, my guess would be by not cranking up settings all the way.
CAHAN they will use amd new sharpening tech on 1800p and it will look the same as 4k. So it will render 70% of 4k resolution. It will have updated cpu cores that were limiting the 60 fps on on the current consoles.
@@SimplexPL Yeah I suppose, 30 fps will probs still be the standard for open world and 'cinematic' games.
Remember how the 1080Ti has 11GB RAM and now only the 2080Ti at $1,000 can match that spec?
As usual Nvidia is strangling high end gaming performance on their lower tiers and reserving a proper 4K pipeline for only the top end card.
Sony and Microsoft have full control of the graphics architecture, AND on top of that they write the API.
Note how Xbox X can hit Native 4K in a decent number of games that only hit 1440p on PS4 Pro? Same deal.
With both the hardware and software designed for 4K output next gen consoles will make quick work of higher resolutions because of a lack of artificial bottlenecks.
the right thing to do after 2060s and 2070s would have been cut the price of 2080ti of a couple hundreds dollars and make it 2080s, with the regular ti being sold at the same price but with some more ram.they would have banged the market ad created so much customer trust and satisfaction instead of losing more and more ground to amd.
Who would have thought the amount of CUDA-cores would scale with performance. /s
I currently own a strix 1080ti oc and I bought a gygabite 2080 super aorus for 680€. Was it a good decision? Can I sell my 1080ti for around 600€ still?
No.
@Oleg Loca it was a special offer on amazon, it got sold very quick but I got the chance to get one.
I will game in 4k and I currently do it as well, sometimes on 1440p if it doesn't hit stable 60fps in shooters. I mean I think that in some games the difference in 4k is pretty high and in others not really so I think the decision was right. It's newer and I get a fresh guarantee etc
Would'nt you know.. The 2080 Super was the card I was interested in, hoping for a similar value boost as the 2060 and 2070 Supers. A detuned 2080Ti, finally at a fair price?... How foolish I was... Sure, it's still better than nothing, but a bit disappointing all the same... Guess I'll be sticking with my 1080Ti for now, maybe next year Nvidia or AMD can offer something compelling.
umm wait for the partner cards, you will get exactly what you were after!
Im pretty sure I know the answer to this, but you guys think its worth upgrading from a standard 1080 to a 2080 super?
for the right price yes. i have a 1080ti that still kicks ass so i'm sticking with it until the next batch of GPU upgrades.
I'm 11 minutes in and I have to ask: what is a power band? This doesn't sound like an industry standard term. It makes sense for combustion engines. There is no intuitive parallel here. Can you not use non-standard non-intuitive terms as an essential comparison point in every round of tests?
Nvidia is getting more ridiculius by the release
they're in panick mode, trying to get as many sales before the AMD invasion.
@@suibora Yeah I bet they are scared of the best AMD card trying to kiss 2080's feet
"ridiculius"
HOW DARE YOU TYPE ONE LETTER WRONG???
By offering a faster card for less? Please explain.
It should cost 600 dollars based on 2070s and 5700xt performance.
5700XT is not even 2070 levels in many games.
@@kraenk12 the 2070s is about 5% faster. 5700xt at a 20% lower cost is a no brainer.
The supers are just what the rtx series should of been when it released.. I thought the founders editions was supposed to be the better than the non founder reference ones? Remember that old trick from when was it the gtx10 series? Even with performance being decent in games its not really a good value they are over priced. Your getting like last gen performance at last gen pricing.. Usually its equal or slightly more for a bit less now its like cool even low end gpus are seeing up around what £399 £400? How long is it going to be until your paying 300+ for an x50 non ti graphics card?
im so sad i didn't get to relish in the 1080 ti era, i have a 980 ti and i've been happy.
But just this week i looked up the 1080 ti and man i was missing out. Such a huge increase for $700 msrp, which was only about $70 more than my msi 980 ti.
I knew to skip on the RTX card in 2018 and wait for 2019 cards, and boy this "super" shit is pissing me off
Never been so undecided in my life.
Was interested in 5700xt but i got a gsync monitor, and i need a definite 4k60fps card from them so i can play on my tv.
On the bright side, AMD is smacking intel this year and hopefully nvidia is rattled for 2020.
Hey, any update on your situation? Are you still holding on?
Upvoted purely for that beyond belief reference
What is not mentioned in those videos is the 2080 super is the only card using a new better Samsung underclocked memory.
sad how small the increase is :/
I find it kinda funny that these "super" high end cards are running Quake 2 at 44 FPS :) I know the technology involved but it is still rather funny :)
