I have this stream bookmarked for nostalgic reasons...and, I still use my EVGA XC Ultra 2080 ti to this day, going strong for almost 5 years, and still able to run any game at high FPS at 1440p. Video editing and encoding is effortless as well. Will try 4K when I get a hold of a 4k monitor.
what are idle and load temps on stock clocks 100% fan? Mine runs super warm. In 75F ambient at stock fan curve, idle I'm getting 55c @ 15% fan. At 100% manual fan (75F ambient), I get 42c idle, and much hotter than I would like while gaming. Curious as to what you're getting under similar scenarios.
#rippaul I fucking love that janky fan setup you did at like 1 hour 2 mins ish. reminds me of when I was a kid in 98 and my family 400mhz pentium computer, which had been hardware overclocked to 440mhz with a pencil mod or some bullshit I don't remember, had overheated on a hot 35C day. I shout out "help the PC's starting to put X's all over every window" (win 95 did that sometimes) and my bro ran in so fast with a big room fan, busted the case door off and slammed that fan right on there. I was half way through saying "that's not gonna do anything" when the X's started disappearing again and all the windows came back to normal again
I just now got a notification for this. Fortunately I knew there was going to be a stream and was keeping an eye out for it to start. Really enjoyed this one.
Please pitch the OC (PC) Master Race competition idea to Linus he could make it happen if he thought it was profitable in one way or another and get sponsors to cover it. They had just started using two 8 pins at this point in time and 5 years later were using 4 of them. CPU clocks have increased by about 1GHz and power draw is up a couple hundred percent. I think we're definitely slowing down and are going to need to make a major breakthrough in the manufacturing of processors. I can't even begin to imagine what that might be as I'm not an electrical engineering genius night-lighting as a fortune teller.

You can tell that Steve's hair is rendered with RTX on. That is what they should have shown on the conference. People would have pre-ordered it like it was half price for performance compared to the 10 series.
I sealed the socket around the die on my 3090FE and applied conductonaut to the die. It runs 5° cooler than it did on kryonaut, temp delta between the gpu and hot spot is down 5° to a 10° deltaT, it's slower to build heat, and faster to cool down. I haven't seen more than 60° since I did it, and I broke 14,600 in port royal and 22,000 in timespy without hard modding the card. I'll shunt mod it when I put my waterblock on
Actually the EVGA does not have a higher Power Limit than the FE. 130% just looks more than 123%, but the EVGA has a Stock PL of 250W and the FE has 260W. The result is pretty much the same thing (well.. ok.. 325W vs. 320W).
as far as sound goes, i have to turn off my 5.1 surround to hear him at all. then he's only center channel.. anyone else having that issue? i've checked other videos and they seem fine, so i dont think its my speakers/setup?
Wish you had tried the same granularity in frequency for the FE card and also ran the final tests on that card in fullscreen. Have a feeling they would have been about identical when you consider the jump in result you got when running the benchmark in fullscreen on the EVGA card. (Edit: FE card should also have been tested with the extra fan on the side)
to me, it sounded like he (Nvidia rep steve interviewed) was saying that the voltage controller didnt give you 10% more overall voltage but allowed the change in regular operating voltage to be 10% higher. so if it was running at an easy to calculate 1.000v - 1.100v it would gain 0.01v at 10% on the voltage slider. i easily could have misunderstood him though something i think should be kept in mind when comparing 2080ti performance is it was claimed in the marketing that it had 16 tflops compute, compare that to the 11 of the 1080ti and the benchmarks are around where i expected, 10-30% better. it looked like it was going to be slightly better than the titan v but not double digit percentages better as soon as they showed the compute performance and from what ive seen it has done that. im pretty disappointing that they went the RTX route and are wasting silicon on what i think a lot of people see as useless cores. Nvidia should have cut the tensor cores and the rtx cores out and made cheaper gpu's. they could put tensor cores and RTX cores on titan cards and sell them for production costs but why waste so much money on something that forces customers to purchase parts they dont want. its like cable companies with their pointless packages. this seems like a filler product line until they manage to get the smaller architecture into production.
They have set a shareholder expected value for GPUs due to the inflated Miners hike. Shareholders know that users will pay $$$+$ for a GPU and will not accept anything less than a $1000 GPU with massive margins under 2080. Bar set.
Aparently preorder shipping is delayed. From 2 weeks to 12 weeks. Stores here have a 12 week delay until the cards are in store except the Gainward 2080.
to get a few extra points run at 720P screen resolution instead of 1080p. might get 100 more points as it has less memory bandwidth rendering the image on the smaller display.
Good job Steve. I feel like people are being a little too critical of the 2 series. Sure the marketing was over the top and in many cases to the point of being misleading, and they deserve to be called out for that. But at the same time, having new hardware that's ahead of the developer curve is all part of progress. We saw the same thing when 4K TVs were released and it took 4-5 years to actually get content to make use of it. I'm looking forward to seeing where things go with Ray Tracing.
The biggest problem with the early adoption is that by the time those new technologies have content available--in this example, by the time ray tracing has common practical applications--there will be a newer version and you can just pick it up then. Trying to convince me to shell out a hefty amount of extra cash for a GPU based on the sell that in a few years it will have an amazing feature is ignoring the fact that an amazing new gpu will be available at that time, too. That being said, there definitely is still a reason to buy a gtx 2 series; it's performance will likely be the next best step forward for gpus. The problem was that's not how they were being sold, so people are annoyed because buying it for ray tracing is a stupid decision with mediocre reasons for the AVERAGE consumer (those who already have applications in mind are not average).
+Boosted Media Try not to let other peoples negativity and criticism effect your excitement for these products. You are right, they used to say the same thing about 4K. But I was an early adopter in 2013, and it has meant I got to experience far more titles in a resolution that the industry now thinks is great. The point is, it was always great. People hate any new technology as it is usually expensive. And it is easier to say "Pfft I have millions in the bank, but I would never buy a garbage RTX card" than it is to say "it looks great but I can't afford one, I don't mind waiting". The 2080 Ti is pushing 37% more FPS at 4K than the 1080Ti and its 1% and 0.1% lows are incredible, they are actually higher than the 1080Ti's averages. The fact it has close to a thousand more cores, means its overclocking will scale better too. As an early adopter of the 1080Ti, I got to use it for well over 18 months, it cost me £699 and I sold it last week for £524. Because I don't listen to the mentality of youtube comments, it only cost me another £575 for the 2080Ti. And because I preordered the 2080Ti before the reviews dropped as nVidia has done nothing to lose my trust ever, I managed to get it before they hiked the prices, once the reviews did drop.
+JustForTheTunes I respectfully disagree. I think Ray Tracing has been hijacked as a reason to not buy the card, by all the people that couldn't afford one in the first place. I haven't seen or spoken to a single commentor or youtube content creator that has considered buying the new cards for anything other than its performance boost. Not one example of someone saying they want this card for 1080p gaming with RT on. The main issue with this card has been the handling of the cards name. It has been labelled a XX80Ti card, where in reality its performance, release schedule and price all show it is clearly a titan card. There is always a TONNE of hate towards people who bought Titan cards. But the reality is, there are no Titan owners that ever cared about that hate. We are just different audiences to the "Bang for Buck" gamers. I think one thing that people have a good reason to be frustrated at, is the fact that when the Titan cards dropped, it wouldn't be long before a trimmed down version would release at much lower price point, and they marketed it as an XX80Ti card. I think it is safe to assume that card may never come. So 1080Ti owners are forced to bite the bullet or wait a new gen. I agree with a lot in your second paragraph, except for the implication that anyone buying an enthusiast level nVidia card will ever fall for marketing things like PhysX, Hairworks or RTX. It doesn't matter what nVidia market, we are not sheep who buy anything that Apple shits out. I like to think most people will do a fair amount of research before a purchase.
+Jacob Smith The basic reason people are upset is that the rtx series from limited benchmarks available appears to deliver the same generational performance increase, but is more expensive as it is being marketed and literally named for a feature whose practical application is currently and in the forseeable future nonexistent. The differences between the 980 and 1080 currently appear to be roughly equivalent as between the 1080 and 2080, and yet while the 980 and 1080 both were released at an MSRP of $549, the rtx2080 is releasing at an msrp of $699 (The Founders Edition Price Hike is roughly equivalent between the three, though iirc the 1080 had a more expensive founders edition price hike). In other words NVIDIA is increasing the MSRP of this new generation by almost 30% for the 80 versions of cards, and this increases to over 40% for the ti variants, who increase from $699 MSRP to $999 MSRP. The reason NVIDIA give for this price hike IS real time ray tracing, a feature which is functionally non-practical or even available in most games as of now and the foreseeable future. So if people ignore the R in RTX, as you suggest, and look at these as values based purely on increased gaming performance, they are receiving what currently appears to be the same generational gpu increase in performance for 30-40% more for the sake of an unusable feature. These cards still have value for their increased performance, absolutely. But the question of their RELATIVE value compared to prior generational increases is dubious at best. When I snagged a 10 series card, I was getting more performance for the same amount of money as those who snagged a 9-series. If you snag a 20-series, you are getting more performance for MORE money. The value of these 20-series cards may not have decreased, but their RELATIVE value absolutely has. EDITED for clarity/grammar
Ok, I didn't wanna watch the whole video for the answer. So how much more fps will the EVGA RTX 2080 Ti XC ULTRA deliver over the RTX 2080 TI Founders Edition version? Because that EVGA is THICK and I'm worried it won't fit in my case! I need to make sure it's worth it.
Morgan Stanley says the gaming performance of Nvidia's latest graphics card is below its expectations. In August, Nvidia announced its new eighth-generation Turing graphics architecture. Technology media outlets published reviews on the company's first gaming cards based on the new chips Wednesday morning. "As review embargos broke for the new gaming products, performance improvements in older games is not the leap we had initially hoped for," Morgan Stanley analyst Joseph Moore said in a note to clients on Thursday. "Performance boost on older games that do not incorporate advanced features is somewhat below our initial expectations, and review recommendations are mixed given higher price points." Nvidia shares are down 2.6 percent Thursday. Moore noted that Nvidia's new RTX 2080 card performed only 3 percent better than the previous generation's 1080Ti card at 4K resolutions. "We are surprised that the 2080 is only slightly better than the 1080ti, which has been available for over a year and is slightly less expensive," he said. "With higher clock speeds, higher core count, and 40% higher memory bandwidth, we had expected a bigger boost." As a result he expects the adoption of Nvidia's new products to be "slower" and doesn't expect "much upside" from the company's gaming business in its next two financial quarters. Despite the disappointment, Moore reiterated his overweight rating and $273 price target for Nvidia shares due to the company's strong long-term technology position. Correction: The correct name of the new card is RTX 2080.
Kinda clear from their now actually shit [not hearsay shit] drivers; AMD has left the market to let us all twist in the wind under Nvidia's tyranny. A fate many of us kinda deserve. AMD could have been better, but that dirty word mindshare really creeps in when you look at buying habits of the pcposuerrace over the last decade.
AMD has been clearly focused on servers, then consoles, then desktop, then mobile... and put out a place maker in the GPU market. With the progress they made with their push on those fronts, they can regroup and try to focus on server, GPU, console, laptops... I don't think that is their plan, but maybe with nVidia screwing up so badly they might bump GPU up the priority list.
I'll never understand this "consumers deserve bad markets for not being more vigilant in buying inferior products to make a statement" mentality. These are performance products. People want and need the best. They should not be blamed for buying the faster race car instead of trying to prove a point with their money. They do not use their money to make statements, they have applications, jobs, and requirements to fulfill. If a competitor cannot offer a solid alternative, that's not the fault of the consumer. There's some irony in shaming consumers for not acting like a herd, but in a different way.
do you think there would be a big overclock potential gap between XC and XC ultra? is the XC version a binned version or not. pls, I preordered 2080ti XC, will I be dispointed with a non-A version?

Why don't they add a GPU temperature slider as well in EVGA Precision?
Ok, I didn't wanna watch the whole video for the answer. So how much more fps will the EVGA RTX 2080 Ti XC ULTRA deliver over the RTX 2080 TI Founders Edition version? Because that EVGA is THICK and I'm worried it won't fit in my case! I need to make sure it's worth it.
Look at low 0.1% there you see more diffrence. Then the fact that rog ally have vrr will make things look smother
Built 2 PCs while watching :D
At last 100% usage!
"Performance boost on older games that do not incorporate advanced features is somewhat below our initial expectations, and review recommendations are mixed given higher price points."
Nvidia shares are down 2.6 percent Thursday.
"With higher clock speeds, higher core count, and 40% higher memory bandwidth, we had expected a bigger boost."
As a result he expects the adoption of Nvidia's new products to be "slower" and doesn't expect "much upside" from the company's gaming business in its next two financial quarters.
Despite the disappointment, Moore reiterated his overweight rating and $273 price target for Nvidia shares due to the company's strong long-term technology position.
Correction: The correct name of the new card is RTX 2080.
The Overclocker This ended up being optimistic, since the crypto crash sunk share prices
I wonder if AMD will make an open source version of ray tracing tech.
Any plans to test the 3080?
Time Spy is such a lame benchmark
Plz don;t make unqualified nonsense remarks. LEARN or stfu
People really had no faith in RT ever going anywhere.
How these two cards for crypto mining? Maybe that could help explain the high msrp on these cards.

When is the EVGA RTX 2080 TI Hybrid available?
He said October at around 36 minute mark
Steve why you're showing core clocks? Can you do a MOD to block the GPU voltage limit?
I have a silly question does it support thunderbolt displays. Like the LG ultra fine display
Best bet is to email the NVIDIA support and ask them.
It cant be the division you said a failed rpg and that game is gonna have a 3rd iteration lol and has had a solid fanbase playing for ever
Lol nah there pretty dead
I'm waiting for memes of rtx on vs off where they are the same image, because nothing can run rtx yet.
RTX 2018 was 3 Aug 2018
RTX 2080 Will be 62 years from now. Rooster teeth should still Sue in advance.
and 2 years later the RTX begining to see the light :)
i would love to see a little more VR content.
You can buy silicon wafers? Where? A link please.
Just go on eBay and search silicon wafers
do you think there would be a big overclock potential gap between XC and XC ultra? is the XC version a binned version or not. pls, I preordered 2080ti XC, will I be dispointed with a non-A version?
