Getting sober is the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. It's one of the greatest gifts I've ever been given. 10-11-11 I had my moment of clarity. An every day I wake up and remind myself who I am. An alcoholic and drug addict. Much love and respect to the Nine Club for bringing awareness to the disease of alcoholism and drug addiction. An of course to Julian congrats on 5 years brother. Glad to be trudging the road of happy destiny with ya fam.

I’ve done almost every drug out there, I’ve had my fun, but I’ve never been addicted, it’s a choice to keep fucking doing it every day and spending your every dollar doing it, it’s not a fucking disease it’s your choice to keep doing it, as someone who has done it all and has family members keep making excuses as to why they are doing it I’m fucking tired of this ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT disease excuse, your a fucking adult not a god damn child, and to have to have people tell you what your doing is wrong blah blah blah, you might as well be a fucking kid, I’m tired of seeing people get praised for stop being a piece of shit garbage human and grow up your not in high school bro how fucking hard is it to be a god damn adult!?!?!?

It takes balls to quit... got there aged 40, now 65... no shame in seeking help. AA may not ideal for all but it sure worked for me. Sending love to anyone newly in recovery. Keep it up and you'll get back all you lost, most especially your self respect.

It's great to see this talked about. I wish more young skaters would get sober. Even drinking slows you down and ages you faster. Skaters already burn out young with perfect health. Stay healthy and skate until your body can't, but don't accelerate that process!!

3 years sober, 3 years fog free, 3 years in the trenches, 3 years of relearning, 3 years married to the most amazing woman, 3 years I can remember… build up a life you can’t afford to give up, there’s not a drink out there worth it.

I’m a recovering addict and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made for myself. Off oxy for 11 months now and Xanax for 4 months. Unfortunately it took a two day black out where I lost a lot of friends because of my actions (who are now proud friends of mine again). For anyone struggling with addiction just know you’re not alone in this game. Stay safe and much love everyone.

I first saw Julien Davidson back in the Am days. I was like, damn, he's my new favourite skaters. Gnarly tricks and styles. Now, I see being sober kinda puts the excitement back if he have a new part. To anyone who's struggling with whatever it is, you can make it. Stronger and better than before. Keep on skating.

I’m a skateboarder. And a recovering heroin addict. Since December 13th 2016. I don’t think people realize how similar skateboarding and recovery is.
Literature. Thrasher and Skate videos are our version of the big book and basic text
You learn from people who have been doing it forever and know what they’re talking about
You fall on your face in front of everyone and learn to get back up and built yourself up
Park sessions are like a meeting, street skating is like book work
I can go on and on. These things aren’t replaceable to each other, I’m just stating the similarities I see in my life

I love hearing about pros skaters addictions and sobriety. As a former skater and former addict its inspiring to hear from these guys. Btw..... fucking wild how rampant addiction is in the skateboarding community. By the time i was 15 i could pretty much find anything (besides the worst 3 crack, meth, heroin). I could get whatever else, and we were all trying everything. Booze was harder to get.

I'm a year and a month sober from alcohol. 6 months into my sobriety I decided to pick up a board again. If sobriety saved my life, skating gave me a sense identity and reason to keep pushing in life. I've been skating as much as I can for 7 months now and although I'm not good by any means I am so unbelievably passionate about it. I thought I would never stop drinking, nor did I ever want to. Fast forward to today and I would never go back to that lifestyle. I'm a sober (from alcohol, I still get high a few times a week) skateboarder now and I am so fucking proud of it.

You are heard, I am listening man. I don’t know you, but know you have a purpose. I have struggled with sobriety for a very long time brother. A qtr of my lifetime. Allow yourself to see the other side of things. You are trying, and as long as you continue to do so change will follow. It might not be tomorrow, or the next day, but it will happen. The moment you throw in the towel and completely give up, that’s the moment where you put yourself in a position to not get better. You got this man, truly. Thing is it doesn't just hurt your liver. If youre an athlete you will notice faster that it hurts your heart, and hurts your soft connecting tissues. If you dont rip tendons and ligaments you will notice they are much less flexible resilient even painful from drinking. It obviously hurts the brain pancreas and kidneys too. Genetics will determine which starts to fail or die first. Some end up diabetic some with ruined kidneys some with low functioning brains. I was hitting it pretty hard daily for about six years before i got up the balls to ask for help. At one point the labs showed abnormal kidney function and i kept drinking another 3 years because i was in denial...
For normies alcohol is one thing for high performing individuals drinking alcoholicly will rob your joy for what you love. Think seriously about asking for help. I couldnt do it alone. Attending AA was the best thing that ever happened to me.r
