#Skateboarding #Clips #TheNineClub - Розваги
Anyone else remember when having a 8” board was considered insane? I had that Baker/Budweiser board in the early 2000s that was 7.75 and thought that was enormous and was freaking out about loosing my flip tricks. Now I ride an 8.5. My my how things change.
I used to ride 8.5 and everyone thought it was huge now i ride a 9.0. A mad world we live in
Yeah I remember getting an 8.25 in like 2001 when I first was getting into skating and all my friends were like dude that thing is HUGE get something smaller. I ended up on 7.75 for a few years and then 8 for many years. Now I see kids half my size skating an 8 or bigger
Flip tricks still M.I.A.?
7.75 was the shit between 05'-'010, then everybody started getting 8's from then on, I personally still like skating 8.125's and I have a size 10 feet. I just like it cuz it's between the bigger boards and skinnier boards. And I also have to pop off the nose when I do fakie tricks.
The 90s.yup.small boards.wheels.and big pants.i kinda miss it.I rode a 7.5 or 7.75.an 8 was unthinkable
when Kelly talked about not getting water until he landed his trick... so damn true! But when you land that trick, that water is liquid gold.
My madness started reaching new heights when I started watching Ben Degros' videos... All of a sudden, my entire set-up, from board-size and shape, wheel-size, -shape and -hardness, to truck width and height turned into an exact science! 👨🔬
Watching Ben will do that to you! I don’t think I’d honestly ever heard anyone mention wheelbase before him, now I’m all paranoid trying to make sure the trucks I’m using coincide with the proper wheelbase.
SAME now I’m so particular only ride deluxe boards or I have to look up the dimensions or bring a tape measure to the skate shop now I only like curtains trucks wheels and stuff like that Ben changed me
Ben inspired me. I like trying other setups that I haven’t tried. It’s so fun
Same here! Got me a 8.75. Up from a 8.25 but I have pretty big feet so I love it.
Yep me too
Every board I write in capitals “ON” usually on tail so when it’s backwards it says “NO” and that’s how I know which way my bored goes
confused me just reading it
Haha grammar was needed, sorry
I just want to say, Eldy's point about Reynold's madness was really insightful!
When I was a kid I didn’t care about my setup and as I’ve gotten older and older I’ve become more and more neurotic lol. Funny how when I was a kid I was riding the same board for everything and now I have a whole setup dedicated to just slappies 😂
Shiit my first few years I didn’t even know that there was board sizes. I would was just throw a board on the ground feel it with my feet and then grip it if felt good.
neurotic?
@@DiegoJ1023 thanks my bad smh 😂
What’s ur slap setup?
@@meltingspot1064 For right now, Anti hero classic eagle 9 inch, Indy 169s, spitfires that I think are 53mm and conical shaped with Bronson Raws
The Paul Schmitt episode got me checking that the baseplates are on my board straight every 30 seconds.
The Schmitt episode created a few more madnesses to my previously existing ones.
Now i think about truck/deck size ratio, wheelbase, and even wheel shape for scoop tricks smh.
Just use new bolts with every new set up and check the tightness once before riding and you'll be fine.
yep thats me.
Up until a few years ago, I just bought a specific size and didn't care about my setup. Wheels, trucks, bearings didn't matter. It was when I discovered Ben Degros that mine started. Now I have 3 specific setups all surrounded by my truck selection 😂 which are Tensor Mag lights 5.75 for big but still tech with STF V3 Slims, Silver M-Class 5.5 for my all-rounder with Spitfire Lock-Ins and Indy 149s for my gnarly weird boards like Hockey, with Classic Bones. All Bones Ceramics in each
Ben is the man
@@nofxdude89 definitely! He's very good with explaining the mechanics of specific setups, wood and all the stuff that we kinda wonder about, but never talked about with our peers. I'll skate any deck, as long as the wood doesn't feel cheap.
Ben is the best and having multiple setups is something way more skaters need to do. I have a few myself depending on what tricks I'm trying to accomplish. Also I highly recommend one with soft wheels to use as a cruiser
Get ben degros on for a stop and chat
lol “ceramics in each”
I think of the Reynolds thing like how a basketball player has a specific free throw routine that they rarely ever change , and it usually starts when they first start playing . It's something to get your mind to relax and get into a rhythm
I think as a skater no matter what someone tells you; they have some board/setup madness lol
Always listen when I’m at work and makes some so hyped up to skate once I’m off
Rob Dyrdek, in the eary 2000s is a great example for 'Tony Hawk's American Wasteland's Freak out' mode.
When I was younger I was a maniac as I got older I’m just glad to 50-50
14 wheelbase , notice the Roberts twin 8.25 and 8.5 have this , now we just need the 8.0 w/ a 14 , c’mon chocolate complete the series
I’m addicted to the POP SOUND… That “CRACK-POP” sound… I will have my back foot on the tail and crack-pop it 10x before I try a trick
To me everything has to match like size 8 board with size 8 Venture lows, and 52 formula fours with that round tailand nose the G008 shape
Always skate the board back to front when skating switch
chris roberts looks like he would report his skateboard to the police.
8:35 Kelly talks about how Reynolds would paint their shoes. I used to get kicks from kelly at Memo and the pink park in Laguna. He would sharpie the pastel color Koston 1's with black and I would like those the most just because of the way they wore out. Thanks again Kelly if you read this.
The vibe in this podcast is so dope. Insta sub.
My bottom left truck bolt has to be a different color than the rest. When I switch decks my trucks MUST stay front and back I can’t forget which was which or I’ll just get new trucks. If I’m not landing anything I exhale into my hand and “wipe” my grip tape off with the air to expel the bad energy.
Love the Crob twin tail 🤘🏼my favorite as of late
Having fresh kicks to look down and see when ur skating is the best feeling ever
Was it Jose Rojo that rode Louis’ 7.5” board? And he’s like 6’6 tall or somethin? Crazy I stood on an old Hookups 7.75 few days ago and it literally felt like I was standing on a lil 2x4 !! Haha
My mom wasn’t a fan of my hookups boards at all, granted I was a teenager living at home so I had to keep them on the DL. 🤣
My late twenties madness is with bushings and truck weight. I've gone through like 5 sets of trucks and countless duro/shape/brand bushings over the two years. I was stoked when Oski released his Lurpivs cos now I've fully committed to those and the weight and feel of them was seemingly what I was looking for. Still change out the Bushings a bit cos I'm always trying to find that balance of soft enough to tighten them past rattling washers and to never feel restricted skating transition + some stability for everything else.
I absolutely never cared about bushings for like 15 years. I thought I just had to loosen or tighten accordingly. Then recently I had brand new everything, including bushings, but instead of setting up a complete I decided to replace everything one by one just to see how it would affect things. So I replaced the bushings and suddenly my razor tailed board felt brand new and stiff. It felt absolutely great but then next thing you know I was on the hunt for the “best” bushings and have a whole bag of em. Ended up deciding it doesn’t matter, the best bushings are just ones that aren’t cracked and chipping. Same solution for boards and everything else. Shape of board affects me a lot less than soggy razortailed boards. So I just get boards my size on sale no matter the shape and I’m good
Don’t really have a board madness I can’t really just be like I don’t like this board and go get a new one but i definitely have a truck and wheel madness for trucks i’m always thinking about what could make my skating better what truck brand’s grind, turn, wheelbase difference, kingpin clearance and the baseplate thing (specifically thunders) my wheel madness is it has to be a smaller wheel and it can’t be a round wheel like a spitfire classic my one exception is 54mm Powell dragons
When I started I bought a blank complete from local shop because it was cheap and good enough to get started. Then I found a few friends to skate with and just tried out their boards. It was pretty easy to figure out from just riding everybody's boards what kind of setup I liked then stuck with it ever since.
I used to ride boards backwards back in the day too. I just thought that was the way because my first board was an old powell and my first popsicle deck I just naturally assumed the smaller one was the nose. But I learned in my break from skateboarding after a knee injury that I was doing it wrong, and once I got back on the board it all made sense riding it the correct way.
My board madness didn't really kick in until I was just getting into my 20s and I had been riding the same 7.75-7.875 sizes for a long time, then I got an 8" chocolate deck from a friend and started sizing up, sizing down, sized up to an 8.6 at one point, and was feeling off on my foot positioning and then I realized it had a 14.625" wheelbase and I did a lot of testing to find the board that flipped around the way I wanted it and realized that I liked shorter wheelbases, so now if the wheelbase is over 14.25 I just mentally can't do it. I also started to sand my grip down considerably when I grip my board. I don't like brand new grip, just throws my flicks off, Even jessup is too gritty for me fresh out of the box.
I'm even finding myself starting to get particular about the steepness of my kicks, I want a long roughly 7" standard popsicle nose, and a 6.5" or so pointier tail. I just grabbed a bunch of element decks off their site that were on sale and they're pretty close to the shape I want my boards to be. Ideally the nose would be a little longer, and the wheelbase a little shorter, at 14.307 it's a bit of an odd one, but I don't mind it so much because i'm riding aces right now and those don't really throw the wheelbase out the way the thunders I was riding before did.
It’s sad to think I’ve been skating for 15 years and I don’t have a go to set up I’m always switching things around smh
My board madness is I cant just have 1 indicator bolt on the front, I need one on the back too. They also have to be bottom right bolt. Super weird but if I dont have it then I cant concentrate
Green grip with the almost stencil
Gotta have a mellow concave, I can’t ride a boat it feels weird under my feet. I tighten my front truck a little more than the back, this is my madness.
9 club really comes thru when ur stuck at home with an injury
Really great conversation reminds me of Ben Degros he used to do a ton of "perfect settup" videos all the time until recently.
i totaly skated the nose for a long time for the SAME reason my first board was a nash that had a huge tail so i thought that the tail was saposed to be the big side
My board had to be flat with almost no concave like Scott Pazelt. And 7.75 is the size I had when I was at my best with technical skating. Usually I liked using primarily blank boards.
6:10 that's how I landed my first kickflip. Slipped out on one and told myself that I'm not going back inside until I do it. 4 hours later... first thing I did was go inside and chug water lol
Bottom left bolt is colored and cover it for kick flips, both bottom bolts covered for ollies. Helps me keep feet wide and makes tricks proper
Feel good, look good, perform good
I used to put my initials center of the board under the back truck, could only ride 1" hardware countersunk grip over the bolts and i'd only sand down the top left and bottom right of the board for kick flips, and nollie heels, hard flips i'd skate off the nose, back truck tighter than the front truck, all wheels had to have graphics in, and first trick had to be a kickflip, because if you can do a kick flip you can land any trick.
only with trucks really which I have switched back and forth from thunders and Indys for three years, depending I also can only ride spitfires and ride 8.3s/8.5s with FA/Quasi only
i need board madness just spend my money on WWEEDD
My main madness are my bushings/trucks.
Independent 92A Medium Hard bushings w/ the top washer removed.
I'm a heavier guy that can make tight trucks feel not tight, but i like a looser ride. So i got harder bushings so i didn't have to tighten my kingpin down so far, and it worked so well that my washer would clink around!
I absolutely hated that sound just as much as a flatspot, so i just got ride of the top washer, and now i have comfortable/familiar turn on all my trucks.
Took me years to get that formula right 🙄
I always check to make sure my hardware is flush with my griptape, trucks on tight and that my wheels spin for more than 10 seconds before I head out. Idk if that's madness or just being picky though lol
R7, Slick , Impact - shaped - big MADNESS it's gr8 , wheels it's gr8 Hazard!
Like the Hazards ?
i used to have it. now i am a recovering addict and attend meetings every week. 12 step helps.
I have to color one bolt in the back so I can get a quick visual on fry/back
also gotta land a clean kickflip last trick every sesh
rats live on no evil star
-dr. awkward
Nice palindrome you got there!
Now let's see an ambigram 😏
I've skated the same setup for a decade with the change of riding MOB over Black Magic. With shoes I've become more picky, board feel is important to me. I want to feel good on the board.
I have to spray paint a faded line on my heel side on the tail.
I jus found out at 30 years old that I’ve been riding my board backwards. The wide side isn’t the tail 😮
I can't have bubbles on my grip, hardware heads has to be flush with the grip, I have to keep my trucks on the same position when I switch decks, and yep, wheels graphics on the inside.
What do you mean with truck position a truck only has 1 position
@@I4k_au nose and tail
Really want to try Neen’s double nose board. I found the double tail board of Ishod’s the tails were too tiny. And yep same here bolts better go flush or it’s game over!! 😋
That’s not madness,
That’s common sense
@@memorysometimers3067 does it matter though? You mean how the bushings broke in or what i mean trucks shouldnt change
I use Bronze bolts and put the one gold one in the rear so it’s really easy to tell when my board gets turned around. I do also have one nollie trick that works better if I do it off of the tail. And lately I’ve been scraping the graphics off of wheels for that all white look, the print always gets messed up and looks bad quick enough anyways.
I've always put my wheels on inside out
We started in 99-2000 and I started skating 8s by 2005 I think when I was still in high school. Then 8.25 by mid 20s now 8.5 gotta have the same wheel base. 101a wheels for street and outdoor parks. 99a indoor parks
I always had a the fear of griding a curb if the wax was nearby... Couldn't skate if the wax was anywhere close to the obstacle.. Anyone else?
My Madness = One wheel graphic out (back left) and white wheels only.
i hate it when your graphic starts to wear off and it reveals red under
I was at 7.75 for a bit. But that transitional skating bug got me and I switched to 8.5 to 8.62-8.75+
Whwn gripping decks I put the grip flush with the edge of the deck so one side is already cut, learned that from Jeron shouts out
Bushing fuck with me, they don’t turn how I want them to, it’s like I wanna turn left but it turns right, literally makes me wanna quit.
I DO THE SAME SHIT JERON 😂 idk what it is but top right wheel always out 😂
I'm a way better pool player than skater and a pre shot routine is so important. making sure you do the same exact thing every time builds consistency.
probably undervalued in skateboarding
When I skate fakie and nollie I use the nose
gotta earn that water
El d nailed it 4:50 in.
I rode a board backwards for my first 5 or so years
i use double riser pads because i want my board to be higher. i use thunder high tho.
I always have to keep my back truck loose and front medium and then I always tap my board tail twice and after an attempt always spin all 4 wheels then stop them.
any trick where my board turns around i start out with my board backwards so i’ll land normal
Chris, would you create an 8.0" twin tip deck please?
As far as board madness, all I have is I must have the board faced the right way, and too tight or too loose trucks I can’t have
I do hardflips off the nose
Captain black bush is an epic name
I had to get used to riding my board with the nose the correct way, always assumed it was based off the old school boards that had a tail but no nose...
I use to ride my board backwards like Kelly too
Just started skating again at 33 after a 4 year break and now I’m going through a bit of madness finding a setup that feels right. Different size boards, different size and hardness wheels, the right feeling trucks. I can’t find something that feels right.
Maybe its you? 4yrs off the board is a while
@@darrentinonzii340 probably but doesn’t change me from wanting to try things to see what I like 👍
Captain Black Bush ?of the wk. Coming to the 9 club soon
I may have a certain preference for setups but I try to not blame my setup for my skating.
marking or color (I like purple for some reason) on grip to know which is tail/nose. Has to be 7.75. Also particular obsession recently with only skating Etnies. Also my trucks have to be independents, red. Why? Who knows.
Daewon's bushing situation is the realest board madness around. pretty much no one can take that mans board and do anything with it, ive only met maybe one guy my whole life skating who rode trucks like his and it was the jankiest shit I've ever stood on
i dont get how he manuals so easily with his trucks literally dangling
@@thlee3 He spent way more hours doing mannys than most people. When me and you got tired and went inside, he stayed out
i have extreme Board Madness, if my board feels even slightly too heavy, i cant ollie up shit although i know it really doesnt matter all that much, my trucks have to be exactly tight enough to where i dont get wheel locking wheelbite when i put all my weight into turning either way, but loose enough to where they will just barely touch the board and give me those tiny little wheelbite marks (idk why it helps me with specific tricks and overall stability) and it really sucks when putting on new wheels lol, lastly i cant ollie onto something if i roll over a crack right before it, or there is a crack directly parallel with the edge of a ledge/rail/etc i literally have to bondo that shit or else im dreaming if i think i can do anything XD
Wax those spots on the board under the wheels. Loose trucks are a must
When I fail a trick solely due to wheelbite I just laugh through the pain
Bro it sounds like your making excuses for lack of ability.
mans is nicknamed steezus, u rlly thought he had quirks?
Chris is slowly turning into the crobfather with these faces!!
For some reason I can only do front pops using my nose. Idk what it is.
Ive always rode my boards backwards i think at a point noses got huge and it just looked to be me. 28 been on a board over 25 years i got to be the worst skate for skating experience
I need to put on the griptape perfectly straight. It has to be black and no noisy grafic, and I put it on after I put the trucks on the deck. Another thing is that I absolutely despise square nose or tail, and it has to be mellow concave (don't like it when the edges of the board dig into my feet). With shoes: I really don't like skating in black shoes. I think it looks ugly. Lol
I like skateboarding the nose as the tail when I'm skating switch.
Lately I have been going insane trying to figure out the right trucks and bushings. I just started skateboarding again after like a 7 year break and I have been doing Alot of experimenting with my set-ups. When I was younger I always pretty much set up the same board with the brands for the overall setups just with different color variations and griptape.
I will never skate a red top ply ever since watching the video claiming the red top veneer is cursed.
Sometimes when fakie aswell. Just feels comfortable sometimes.
Where i live we have to use the same board until it's totally useless (probably for like 6 or 7 months, at least the local skatepark is smooth so boards can keep the nose and tail a little longer) boards are hard to afford.
My size is 8.25, i can skate a 8.5 but after two months i can't stand the size and i get over it
I can't skate straight black grip, i cut my grip in three pieces and paint the piece that goes on the center (i don't understand why people cut the griptape in half to have a cutted line from nose to tail)
Wheels: not 96 and not 101, left back wheel gtaphic goes inside, right back wheel graphic goes outside and left front wheel graphic goes outside and right front graphic goes inside 😂😂😂😂
I've always used the nose as the tail
Pink top only, white wheels only - graphics in, colored bolt bottom left towards the tail.... and only white laces on my shoes... I’m a damn psycho
What’s your skate madness reply below
Mine are
-Always white wheels
-Wheel graphics in except the back left wheel is graphic out
-Always lines on the grip or use squares when I can find them
-The line above the back truck holes I need a sticker collage been doing that the longest since I started skating back in 86 and still skating 🤙🏾
Mine are
-Wheels always have to be white side out, graphics facing inwards
- can never use coloured trucks, always has to be raw or silver
- when changing my board, every truck bolt has to be in the exact same hole as it was on the previous board
- always have to pop the shields on my bearings
I have the opposite of this, if the trucks roll, lets go 🤙
Ishod has the twin tail, Chris has the twin betweener
God I love the 9 club
Here’s an intriguing question that I’m sure others have wondered about … I always see pro’s kick down on their wheel before trying a real heavy trick, what’s up with that? I’ve seen Nyjah and others do it. Is that some sort of madness or are they straightening their trucks or something?
It's a way to check that your trucks are still functioning properly before trying the next trick.
U coulda been trying a big trick and the hardware loosened or the kingpin snapped, but u don't find out until too late.
A little kickdown on the truck is just to check that nothing is wrong w/ it.
I started doing this like 2 years ago lol. For me its because I feel like when my bushings start to crack they sometimes get set turning a certain way, kicking down on the right side (im goofy) makes them turn a little bit towards my toe side rather than my heels, probably bullshit idk. I also sometimes stand on my board with one foot and push the trucks into a toeside turn to get the bushings moving that way a little bit.
@@jphjphjph Yeah sometimes gotta do that especially in the cold.
Winter is Crooked Roll Season 😏
I always need “colored hardware” for my front truck.
Wormhole ❤️
Open one about goofy vs regular and being left vs right handed. Then see who vs who does better at fakie vs nollie. Needs to be a register of it somewhere online. Gets heavy
I’ve been 7.75 since 775’s came out. Now it’s an 8.25
There's a sick skater on foundation that skates board backwards cuz foundation decks are so flat
