    I am also from Trinidad and have been making this for decades. We always put a few tablespoons of olive oil in it, the amount depends on the amount of salfish, otherwise it would be dry but with this recipe I would put at least one tablespoon. Many years ago, we used something that we called sweet oil which was a brand of olive oil. Never heard of making it without a bit of olive oil. The traditional buljol never had cilantro and celery. I don't think that is necessary and will surely change the taste. Must be her modern version. If you like red sweet pepper you can put about half of a diced (very small) one in it, but it is not necessay. Thanks for doing the video.

    Rinsing the saltfish a few times and leaving it to soak in water overnight gets rid of all the salt for me😊 recipe looks very appetizing👍❤

    This is one of those rare dishes whose taste and texture reach far beyond the simplicity of the ingredients. This fabulous dish, cooked for me by your mum, was one of the best things I tasted during my recent visit - and I tasted many amazing dishes!

    I'm from Trinidad but I live in Tobago where most of the time the saltfish sautéed with vegetables. My mom who's from Brazil village never sautéed it. All ingredients were fresh and raw and she added olive oil aka sweet oil

    This is an authentic saltfish buljol recipe, just like my mum used to make. I have seen recipes where people stew it and call it buljol…. That’s stewed satfish not buljol. Thank you for sharing.

    this recipe is the real trini style Buljol, most of these new recipes cook up every thing together nah not the Original trini way. Boil the salt fish get most of the salt out, then put the ingredients together no more cooking!

    Hello, I am not being funny but scallions are green onion not chive. Chive are smaller and thin there is a different. FYI

    • @TasteofTrini
      @TasteofTrini  8 років тому +12

      Hi, yes I know that. However, in Trinidad we call green onions or scallions, Chive(pronounced sive). I know Chive is totally different.

      This is traditional Trini buljol. Minus the scallions/ chive! You can chunkay some garlic in oil and put in it. Great flavor
