    As a guitarist I really never fully appreciated Larry until a drummer friend pointed it out. I never listened to U2 the same again. It’s made my love of that band even deeper.

    Larry is a underrated drummer, some of his beats, fills, dynamics are awesome!!!

      Find an original comment. UA-cam is full of people claiming some musician is “underrated”. The majority of musicians are not underrated. Musicians are rated right where they are for a reason.
      Personally, I think Larry Mullen Jr is a fantastic drummer. I’ve always enjoyed listening to his drumming.
      I believe that you’re a passionate fan of Mullen’s work. I also believe you have a reason for your comment and I’d love to know why it is that you feel Mullen is underrated. And you may actually be correct, but I have a hard time agreeing with your comment.
      I’m not a troll, I’m just an idiot with spare time and a cellphone.

      @@brokl26 My comment is original and the truth. If you look up "underrated drummers " Larry Mullen is rank 10th. That means he's in the top 10 of underrated drummers. Top 10 best drummers, top 10 drummers of today, top 10 drummers of all time, Larry's name is nowhere to be found. One would think that such a accomplished drummer with huge talent, several albums, been in the same band for almost 50 years should be in the top 10. "Musicians are rated right where they are for a reason ", so why is Larry ranked 10th on the underrated drummers list? I agree, terms underrated/overrated are thrown around loosely but in this case...its the truth. Larry Mullen deserves more recognition and sadly he doesn't get the recognition that is due.....

    • @brokl26
      @brokl26 5 місяців тому +1

      @@vistalite-ph4zw so, since he’s not in the top ten, why do you think that is? There are many drummers that are, in fact, better than Mullen. Even though any top ten list is subjective, Mullen is not there for a reason.
      If you believe Mullen deserves more recognition, that’s your opinion, and maybe you’re correct.
      Which drummer on the Top Ten list should not be on the list?
      Here’s a list off the top of my head that are more accomplished than Mullen
      Danny Carey
      Travis Barker
      Greg Bissonette
      Steve Gadd
      Mike Mancini
      Mike Portnoy
      Gavin Harrison
      Larnell Lewis
      Sarah Thawer
      Steve Smith
      Nate Smith
      And those are just a few that come to mind. But I agree that Mullen is accomplished.
      Like I said, any list is subjective when it comes to music.

    • @vistalite-ph4zw
      @vistalite-ph4zw 5 місяців тому +2

      @@brokl26 I agree with you 100%!! I saw one list and they Tommy Lee at #7. Don't get me wrong Tommy Lee is a great drummer but top 7? Idk like you said all lists are subjective, some lists are compiled by music execs, fans, and their peers. I really don't know why he doesn't get the recognition just like Kenny Arnoff same thing the guy is very accomplished and is never in a top 10 list. The list you compiled is a tough one. I love Bissonnette but I think he would slide down for Mullen...😂😂😂

    For years & years I simply cannot listen to this amazing song without strumming my air bass and stomping to that kick. Larry’s “heavy foot,” as Bono calls it, is as perfect as it is booming.
    All time legendary rhythm section, imo. You’re the man Rick! Stay young.

    I've been fascinated by Daniel ever since hearing his interview with Maron on WTF. He's the silent partner that Eno had in his pocket, probable the best sound engineer in the world. You never know where you'll see his name when looking at music credits.
    Why is the music in the moonshine shack in Red Dead Redemption Online so good? Well, his name is in the credits there too.

    Between "War" and "Achtung", Mullen's drum sound filled the room. Key examples outside of the ones everyone knows is how he uses the floor toms on the intro to "Acrobat", U2's closest track to Smashing Pumpkins, "Exit", and the sadly overlooked "Wire".

      You had to be young during early U2 to really get why people are such big fans. I wish Rick would comment on how frequently the drums and bass lay back on the back side of the beat on some of this U2 stuff. It is almost like they are deliberately trying to pull the beat apart sometimes. It has to be intentional as Mullen always seemed to be playing with a click track during rattle and hum.

    He’s a great drummer and I’ve always loved his almost marching driving feel but I think this is really the only feel for the song! He just displaced the snare and added a little syncopation as opposed to just playing the snare on two and four and the bass drum on all of the quarter notes. It’s almost like if you were to listen to “slipping into darkness” by War and love that feel and song and then your suddenly in U2. Nothing against Larry because I absolutely love his Drumming but this is not the song I think of immediately for stand out originality like “Sunday bloody Sunday” and so many other songs.
