I'd never heard of this guy - now I'll never forget him. You do so much for us Rick - bless you man.
Word!
Down here in the disaster that is Florida.. taking a break from the cleanup .. bless you Rick and thank you Mike Dawes for allowing me to close my eyes and go to a place of beauty for a moment.. ok, back to work
Michael Hedges is smiling down from heaven. Mr. Dawes plays beautifully.
Mike, you are actually the first guitarist in 35 years who makes me cry whenever i listen to you. I don't know how your brain works man, but every note feels just right. It just flows...amazing talent.
And that is exactly how I felt the first time I heard Pat Metheny back in 1982.
@@davidgagnon2849 I was born in 1983 so i guess this is "my Metheny Moment" ;-)
I was just going to say Pat Metheny or maybe Paco De Lucia or John Mclaughlin. Sorry to say I'm not moved by this. Sounds like a nice soundscape, that's it.
But I love Max Ostro, omg what a talent
@@oscarleijontoft Sure Max Ostro will always be one of my fav guitarists. At his age he's almost like Guthrie. Amazing guy really
He's definitely built different. Takes a special mind to come up with the gorgeous stuff he does, and then the talent to play it so beautifully.
Exactly!!!
People often misuse the word "genius" but in Mike's case I think it's completely justified.
Whenever I hear Mike play, it makes me reminisce about seeing Michael Hedges multiple times before he passed. I like the feeling that his style has lived on and the torch is in capable hands. That’s the highest compliment I can give.
You hit the nail on the head. I have never heard Mike play before, but the first thing I thought of was Michael Hedges. I was fortunate enough to see him in concert as well before his unfortunate passing. I look forward to exploring Mike's music now. I'm so glad I saw this video.
Me 2
Truth. The Leo Kottke/Michael Hedges concert was a personal highlight in '88. Wonderful to hear Mike carrying the torch.
That’s who I was immediately reminded of, too. Wonder if he plays the harp guitar, also?
Spot on man, spot on
When Mike plays I always think of the nature. Its like walking in a beautiful forrest and listening to the animals while a river float by and the wind makes sounds in the leaves. He is the only artist that makes me feel like this. His taste is so fluid, organic and relaxing.
Mike is the epitome of a true artist and genuinely kind and humble human being. In the musical desert in which we find ourselves these days, his brilliance is enough to quench the thirst of all lovers of music and originality.
He's the Keanu Reeves of music
Mike still got his soul intact, that´s why he is the amazing, heartdriven artist he is.! RESPECT!!!
Mike is simply astonishing. Seeing him play live is a must for any musician!
I get a kick just seeing the joy radiating from his face as he plays. Phenomenal talent!
OMG!!! WTF! Absolutely breathtaking! Thank you Rick for exposing me to a “new artist”. I will be searching all his music out.
Mike Dawes is such a humble guy. He is amazing, and his work just takes me away!
I am speechless, I had never heard of Mike Dawes and now I will never forget....amazing
Mike is such an amazing player. Soulful, technical, melodic, the list goes on. His music has it all!
Why does Mike Dawes playing always make me tear up 😢 So beautiful.
Never heard a more beautiful guitar or playing in my life.
Mike is not only one of the top acoustic players of all time - he's just an awesome dude you'd like to drink a beer with. Or 2. And then cry because you gave him your acoustic guitar to play and he plays stuff you wouldn't even imagine.
Mike shouting out Tommy Emanuel is amazing. They are both wonderful crafts men.. I've seen TE live twice but not MD (yet)..... To see them both together, would be totally mind blowing.
That's Rick for a brilliant interview.❤
It was!!!🤯🤯🤯
Lovely!! Makes me think back on Michael Hedges. Miss him but, it's awesome to see the legacy he's left us...
Mike Dawes and others.
I thought the same thing first time I heard him. Both amazing artists.
Felt the same!
Now that’s a man who LOVES to play guitar! What a fantastic performance, absolutely lovely melodies, and his technique is immaculate!
Great video, Rick, thank you so much for sharing it with us!
Speechless....
His music says it all ....
Michael Hedges would have loved this video! Beautiful playing.
My admiration for Beato and Dawes both just grew a little more. Absolutely marvellous.
This dude is incredibly talented.
He has been working his ass off.
No air plane pilot is talented. They practice a lot:)
His music feels like a warm hug.
Mike is such a unique and gifted artist with the longest fingers I think I've ever seen on a human being. He is world class, especially when he teams up with the brilliant Tommy E. Love u Mike xo
Thank God for Mike Dawes! He plays some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard.
Rick, the work you are doing is some of the most important contributions to music ever. Keeping making these videos.
Uff...the sound & the technic melt my heart. Thank you for sharing Rick....
I never realized how much of a modern incarnation of what propelled Michael Hedges exists in Mike Dawes. Incredible, original, and very very next level.
Rick, this is one of your best interviews yet. Letting Mike freely play and explore his intermittent explanations about what he was doing was a real treat. It gave the conversation a natural flow that made it even more engaging. This was a real treat🙏
Michael Hedges, Leo Kottke, Alex de Grassi, André Geraissati, among others, must be remembered!
They had their walk in the sun and now it's time for Mike Dawes...I'm sure all those you mentioned would agree. There's room enough for all who play.
@@markadams2907 I agree, but these two things are not mutually exclusive! Cheers and let's listen to Mike Dawes!
Wow!….guitar playing is in very safe hands with this guy and Guthrie and Matteo too 🔥🔥👌🏻👌🏻
Brilliant on so many levels! Dawes obviously but a host letting him play and talk is equally brilliant. Well done.
These last interviews are great. There’s so much love for music. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much Rick. Keep going on! ❤
Holy smokes, every time I see Mike he is pushing the boundaries of what's possible on the guitar. Amazing artist.
You know it's good when Rick goes "whoo" twice in less than a minute 😂
Mike has a organic sound, authentic songs, monster chops and an inspirational personality. The future of fingerstyle guitar is literally in great hands.
Mike has such great energy. The flow he describes within the musician, out to the audience, and back again, is the most magical part of being a musician in my experience.
Absolutely gorgeous playing, what a gift
This is art..., This is a genuine artist..., This is what a great human being looks like! Simple, humble, genius...!
As a long time fan of Mike, his use of those natural harmonics and the melancholic but soothing melodies still get me every time.
Mike: *displays virtuosity*
Mike: "You wanna go?"
Rick: "No ... "
we feel you rick, we feel you 😂
I think Mike is one of, if not the, best acoustic guitar player in the world. Nice to see him again on the channel!
I'm still playing CDG chords. Amazing
Mike, your song "The Impossible" is so unique and inspired, it continues to blow me away, even after my forty of fiftieth listen.
It has been WTF since first time I heard him many years ago. What a brilliant musician he is and so humble.
2 minutes into the video, and my jaws dropped to the floor. Beautiful🥰
Wow, this guy is phenomenal.
Some 30 years ago I went to see Phil Keaggy play and was seated in the front row directly in front of him. So close that when he dropped a hand towel and I picked it up and handed it back to him…requesting if he could play a Song of his I loved. He had a set up that would record parts he’d eloquently play and the parts would repeat on a loop as he would add more and more until he completed all the parts he wanted. Mark Daws brought this memory back to me. He’s a Wonderful Guitar Player making magical sounds. The technology has increased immensely in the past 30 years, and fits the Talent of Mark Daws imagination.
I was wondering if you have ever heard of Phil Keaggy Rick. I began buying his albums in 1973. Oh…he did play the Song I requested. ❤️ Gee I enjoyed this video!!! Thank you so much Rick…and Mark!!! 👏👏👏
nice that you mention keaggy as that's very much what dawes sounds like.
99 of Vinyl left. I’ve orderd my copy. Cant wait to see Mike in Germany. A new fan!
Absolutely Beautiful! WOW! What a Player!
Amazing, Thankyou 🎸🎶🎸
Amazing interview Rick .. Dawes certainly flashes Michael Hedges.. brilliant
Goosebumps from everything he plays! Wow!
Mesmerizingly beautiful😊
Wow. Thank you, Rick, for having this gentleman on your channel. Mike is one of those people that you can see is doing what he was meant to be doing. Amazing player, and the sounds he creates are so easy to listen to for as long as he plays them. I just checked out his website and will be ordering soon.
I’ve seen all kinds of guitar players in my 48 years of life. Many of them here in this channel. I’ve never seen anything like this. This guy is just out of this world. Thank you SO much for everything u do, mr. Beato
Unbelievable how good he plays. How can you get better than that? Thank you Mike and Rick!!!
I think as far as this style of playing goes this is as good as it gets IMO. His playing/performances are absolutely flawless.
It's always stunning to see Mr Dawes play. Unbelievably beautiful.
What an amazing person and musician. Respect!!
Absolutely mesmerizing! Tastefully beautiful! It just draws you in. Never would have thought about putting all of those pickups in there and running them each through their own effects and channels to create such magic.
I met Mike Dawes after a show he did with Justin Hayward. Justin was too tired to do the meet and greet, so Mike did double duty. I told him I loved how he made one guitar sound like two. I’ve known some other guitarist who could their one sound like two, but Dawes is the master wizard!
Beautiful!!! just beautiful!!
Superb Rick and Mike. This is where its at folks, real people with enormous passion for keeping real music alive. Thank you so very much!
Here’s the thing about Mike Dawes … he’s only going to get better and better and better as time goes on. Astonishing player ❤
Nothing like hearing a true master showcase his low-key virtuosity. Wow. When he broke into Euclid, I was doing dishes and dropped one, and just stood there mouth open. Dang, Mike takes a beautiful song and makes it even prettier. You should get Vessel on the channel to sing with him Rick...
There's a video of Mike doing VH's Jump that is just mind-blowing
Beautiful. Thank you.
I have never teared up listening to a dude play a guitar, That happened today. I will forever be a fan of this man now.
That Sleep Token song was beautiful.
i simply cannot change channel when this dude starts playing. so dreamy and beautiful
We've seen Mike play with Justin Hayward at least four times and he is incredible. His talent is amazing, but it's his lovely demeanor, sense of humor and genuine kindness that also won us over. No wonder he is so good with Justin. We're seeing Justin again in November and hope Mike plays with him again!
what an unbelievable tone sounds ..🔥🔥
he is really an amazing guitar player and impressive artist!
Bravo Rick! You always deliver!!
Mike, you're such a great player, very musical with plenty of melody, love your playing style. Just beautiful to hear.
This style is enchanting. It's the best word I can come up with. The music puts you in a trance...everything else is gone. All your left with is the music.
Mike is a magician. Never been as mesmerised watching anyone with a musical instrument as I am with him.
Wow....just Wow! 🎸👈❤️
What a great human being who happens to be an outstanding musician. We are blessed to have Mike and Tommy in the world - two humble greats.
Man, Mike just seems like such a top guy and the music is just amazing. Best of luck, brother!
A one man orchestra. Wonderful.
I've seen him live with Justin Hayward... amazing! Rick, can you please interview Justin as well? Huge Moodys fan here...
That would be awesome. Maybe Justin could finally have a real conversation about music instead of answering the same questions about Nights in White Satin for the bazillionth time.
Would love to hear some old Moody Blues songs re-recorded in the studio, featuring Mike's fabulous guitaring, with these techniques, a proper mellotron sound, and Justin's still amazing voice. Give Mike a great song to play, and a great voice to play against, then sit back and listen.......
Mike is an absolute master of his craft and a gem of a human.
So much feeling in his playing. And so rich with ideas. Sometimes the wizardry of players like Mike upstage the music. In this case it was more about discovering the guitar than showing off. All heart and mind.
Beautiful. Standing on the shoulders of Michael Hedges.
Incredible. A whole new way of playing the guitar
Michael Hedges 40 years ago
@@autk Mike even covered a Hedges song! Though i find Mike's guitar playing even more incredible. Not to take away from Hedges who paved the way.,
The haunting reverb.. breathtaking 🌬
Wow ❣️ This is over my head technically, but it sounds smooth 🩵🎵🎶🩵
Michael Hedges is back.
Reminds me of Aerial Boundaries by Michael Hedges, like a LOT.
Very nice time spent sitting watching this video. Inspirational guys, God bless...
I've seen Mike Dawes a couple times now with Justin Hayward. I'm not crazy about instrumental guitars, but this guy is an orchestra with just his Guitar.
Wow. Just wow. Wonderful...
A tribute to Micheal Hedges If i ever heard one- really good!!
He is definitely one of one. Great player and true artist.
Another excellent episode. More proof that the player is key to great sounds.
Astonishing guitar playing! Just beautiful!
Mike's a true artist! Absolutely breathtaking.
Just beautifull, i will check him out for sure. This is heavenly music!
