Yeah, I think it's because the fashion/beauty industry has been dominated by white people for so long that the companies that cater to that industry act like that's the only thing that exists. I'm so white that I can hardly ever find a shade either, but at the very least I can find something close-ish. It's disgusting that they release "deep" shades that still just look like beige. It's not hard, they just don't want to reach out to POC for help in getting it right.
@@talynhastime9343 makeup is a difficult thing to export. Nail varnish is the worst becase the contents are flammable and subject to harsh legislation by many countries.
I do agree though, these companies are big enough where they can and should diversify into multiple markets.

I don't even wear makeup, and it bugs me that ESPECIALLY luxury brands who HAVE THE MONEY to make it even if certain shades (on either end of the spectrum) don't sell as much doesn't mean they shouldn't be made.

I’m tired of Nikita saying her products are universal like no your bronzers are not bronzing anyone on the medium to chocolate to deep side of the spectrum.
That bronzer is my exact skin tone lmao, that would've never showed up on my face lol. I though they were different palettes for different skin tones and undertones, apparently not. Oops
lol that bronzer would look on me as if I would have cocoa powder on me or something, I think it's more catered to the lighter medium shades because I'm very light skinned and I wouldnt be able to wear that

Bronzers isn't for anyone on the extreme end of spectrum, either too far or too dark, it is for medium fair up to something the lighest of darks at best(and the later is not very often). personally I am very fair, so I would look like covered in dirt.
Maxi If a product works for me than its too light to be universal. (150 in fenty) I have no idea if it would work but it’d probably be to dark.

flor libanés I stopped purchasing makeup from these brands. I’m light/fair and I only purchase from BOMB and brands who cater to all skin tones ONLY. Miss me with that shit.

I also like that you said this! I try to only buy from companies that have inclusive lines as well. I also have a very hard time finding foundation in my shade because I’m hella pale. My concealer is literally white. I enjoy that makeup companies have been becoming more inclusive on both sides- because there’s only so many shades of tan white people we need lol.
Same. I have the exact opposite problem as she does, I’m SO WHITE than barely any brands have something white enough for me. Most of the lightest shades are still 2-3 shades darker than I can use
It is super important to put pressure into companies so that they stay out of their unfair/disrespectful/basic comfort zone! We should all have the right to play around with makeup.

Anyone remember when stila used a white model to swatch on...then made that same model a medium and deep skin tone with technology instead of hiring models with those skin tones. Idk why brands think that's ok!!!!

They actually used a darker model and photoshopped the other skintones. Not sure if they've done it more than once, but the collection I remember was the little white lies collection and that info came out.
They did it more than once too. Smh. Hence, why I won't purchase from Stila.

Since that James Charles video where he made his perfect foundation shade at morphe or wherever, I don't buy any brands bullshit stories anymore. In that video you can clearly see how easy it is to make a dark complection foundation/concealer shade. It's literally the same level of difficulty as lighter shades. Probably a lot easier actually. So why can't brands fucking be inclusive!!!??? It gets me HEATED!
it is literally different proportions of yellow, white, red and blue in each foundation. it's the easiest thing in the world to make a darker shade of foundation. I think that some brands simply don't want to associate themselves with darker skinned women, and it's sad because the market is huge.

Funny thing is that even a few of those wouldn’t work for everybody. One type of falsies doesn’t work for every eye shape for example

I know Fenty is a soft spot for many of us but we have to acknowledge how TERRIBLY their bronzer line failed us darker skinned persons.
Yes!! I have the darkest one and i use it just bc i have it but it make next to no difference and gets super red not in a flattering way either 😩
I’m underwhelmed by the eyeshadows. The pastels from her palettes are killing me. I swear they look darker online but in store they don’t look so flattering. I want to buy the deep jewel tones riri is famous for wearing! Those are amazing on deeper and lighter skin tones. Deep colors can be blended out for a light wash but pale shadows are pale shadows until the end of time.
Hoping the new clicking palettes get a reboot soon

I don't wear makeup so I haven't personally tested any Fenty stuff but I've watched a ton of videos reviewing the foundations and people seemed to rave about the color selection and how amazing it was. But then I watched a bronzer vide from someone else and she was testing the Fenty bronzers and none of them were deep enough but she was fairly light. It's funny how she excelled in foundations and utterly failed in bronzers
I agree fenty could do better. It makes me wonder why they havent taken that uoma beauty step . I hope they come hard in 2020 I wanna see more highlighters n blush n more powder products
i'd rather brands launched complexion palettes divided in like light, medium and dark instead of "universal". Not a single person that does make up for fun and not professionally is going to use the "universal" palette in it's entirety.
It just ends up being “universally” bad for all shades when they try to do this 😂

But that does show that there probably were no POC in the decision process. Companies need to understand how important it is not just to make products for POC but to hire POC.

Why can’t they sell the minis in every complexion. If it’s a mini to something and they have in the full size in that color it should also be available in mini sizes. Am I missing something?
NARS carries "minis" in every shade, and has always had an inclusive range. Unfortunately, they are on the "pricier" end of the cost spectrum, and have been pushed out of the running by cheaper brands, so noone really talks about the brand anymore...

Minis tend to be “best sellers” they’re not suitable for a lot of people in the grand scheme of things
It’s my understanding that mini products actually cost more to produce. Companies are all about squeezing every last cent they can out of people, so they’ll never make a more expensive (on their end) item with tons of options. It’s why most companies will only offer their best selling shades that way. The better way to go would be to offer a proper range online. Put the best sellers in stores, but also pepper in less commonly sold colors so people can get a sense of them. That way if you wanted to buy online you’re not doing so totally blind. That or they could do things like ABC colors are exclusive in store with Nordstrom, XYZ is exclusive to Sephora.

in my opinion, the only products that can legitimately be made with the "universal" tag is lipstick colours. other items i.e. brow pencils, powders, face palettes, etc... I roll my eyes everytime I see them 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️

I remember hearing SO much about Dragun beauty, and wanting to by it so bad. I hadn't seen the Promo video, I just thought some crazy "Dragun-like" bright popping colours would come out. But nah, it was chalky-and the same colours every other girl has. I was REALLY let down.

Regarding Jaclyn's highlighters I felt the exact same way, I'm like how do you not send them to darker skin people. I'm not going in blind and buying her products without seeing a review from someone who is at least a similar shade to me, so her getting my money was a hard NO. This was a great video and I hope these brands are put on notice.

I have the “privilege” that I can find my shade very easily but I still am mad at brands that have 50 shades of white and 3 shades for darker skin like excuse me umm are you trying to include everyone ? I think most brands carter to the medium of fair to medium/light dark skin, in which end up being 50 shades of beige and orange browns. it is very hard to find shades in dark of spectrum and the light aswell, if you are not a standard porcelain, but even fairer than that. Have she tried Maybeline's fit me line? If they still carry the dark shades, they had at the launch.

Revolution is quite inclusive but shades do tend to be sometimes off even on the lighter skinned side of the spectrum which is more formula/pigment side but they include a load of shades but most has to be bought off their site as the drugstores don't stock all shades as the stores only order what they think or claim will sell

Hourglass continually launches horrible shade ranges in there blushes, face palettes, and concealers. Also, any brands that launch blushes with one (1) kinda dark merlot shade and 15 pale pinks.

I really question brands that make “universal” skin products. How in the world is a bronzer going to work the same way on the palest skin and the darkest skin. ITS NOT GONNA.

Damn, Nyma literally spits facts. I’m a brown girl and I realised how I’m able to find my shades and it’s not as hard as for my sisters with deeper complexions. This is annoying, brands are literally dropping things in the name of beating each other while ignoring the consumers and their needs. FFS.

I've never worn makeup (still don't) so it's only in recent years, thanks to beauty youtubers like you, that I started noticing how much darker skin tones are overlooked and disrespected in the makeup industry. It's insane and unacceptable how this is still happening to this day, I truly don't get it. It would be SO SIMPLE for companies to have a larger shade range, what's the deal with them?

The thing that also angers me is when eyebrow products don’t come in shades for red heads. Sometimes brands like ABH and benefit have value deals for the brows. They purposely exclude the redheads. Like jeez
Cookie Crumbler ABH has an Auburn shade for brows. I have several of them. I use Caramel and Auburn and they work well for me. Obviously I’m not Nyma’s skin shade, but she has really good info and I trust her judgment. I have many friends who are WOC of her shade or a bit darker and I want to be respectful when gifting makeup by knowing a bit about how they will look and act on their skin tone.

I feel like video name should be changed to "products that failed dark skinned people", sometimes I feel like we over use the term poc, not all poc are dark skinned and it's not okay to use them interchangeably especially since they are not the same. To top it all off, the products you mostly mentioned failed to cater people of deep and darker complexions, for instance, us Southern Sudanese. Not towards people who are medium toned and are still poc.

Yup, I'm Asian I have a massive and popular K beauty market to get anything I want catered to my looks. Still a POC, but by no means am I faced with discrimination all the way into my cosmetics.
