The pull-the-key-out-of-the-ignition feature is so you can open your garage door without stopping the car, then restarting the car after the door is open.
That is, if you don't have a remote door opener, and have your garage door key on on the same ring as your car key.
My 85 Oldsmobile 88 had the same feature.

1993 was the last year for the "square body" Chrysler New Yorker 5th Ave/Imperial. Which was a stretched version of the Chrysler New Yorker Salon/Dodge Dynasty. Those cars appealed to the AARP crowd. That was the year Chrysler introduced the aero body LH cars like the Concorde and Dodge Intrepid. Sometime in 1993, Chrysler introduced the stretched LHS/New Yorker as 1994 models. I heard the transmissions in those cars were trouble-prone.

Which was the highest end model for the 93? The 5th Ave? I remember the 80s non 5th ave had digital dash. The 5ths didn’t. Was the Salon the highest? Obviously the Imperial was the highest from what I remember but of the velour interior Yorker/5ths, I mean.

The velour interiors were the best. Everyone’s afraid of grandpa cars now. It’s so frustrating when you have chronic pain. Sure, it could do with a 200+ hp engine, but I love that it’s a “boat.” Nobody cares about comfort anymore.

My mom used to have a 1990 New Yorker Fifth Ave after trading up from a big boat mid 80's model. First of its kind with a driver's side Air bag, LED lights on the corner telling you which doors are ajar, the motorized pinch proof trunk feature, premium Infinity audio system minus a CD deck, but still sounded top notch, electronic push button climate and HVAC controls (only my current 2012 Ford Focus has similar push button controls that rival what the New Yorker has), spirited V6 engine that had decent horsepower and acceleration, plush and supple seats and high end interior this side of an Oldsmobile Cutlass..this car had it all.

Only the FWD New Yorker brand 83-87 talked, the NY 5TH Ave was RWD 83-89, & didn't have the Audible Warning System (talking computer) installed. I had an 85, white w/red int. and I loved it. Others like LeBaron, & GTS, Dodge Lancer ES & 600 ES had limited English warnings & Thank You after. Coupes like Laser XE/XT , Daytona Z had more warnings & pinged format after. If it had Turbo, it spoke. The Spanish & French units made it till 89. I loved mine. Each had a off switch n Glove Box roof hole.

I had one of these as my daily driver in 2013, and about five years before that, a 1993 Dodge Dynasty, which is essentially the same thing. Anyway, I loved both cars, and the Chrysler had crazy acceleration; but the main problem that I've encountered with these is that their rear spring pegs rot out, and then, when that happens, you're left with a major (and, I'd assume quite expensive to repair) suspension problem....one that essentially trashes the car! :( I had to get rid of mine when both suffered the same fate! :( I'd love to have another, as my brother derisively calls them, "hat-car," but I'd have to beef up and reinforce the suspension a great deal first. It sucks, though...because I'd love to have another one, and these cars are luxurious, stylish, opulent, comfortable, practical, easily parkable, get 18-25 mpg or more (which isn't half-bad), presentable, rare yet affordable...they have everything I want and need in car, save length, width, weight, V8 engines, RWD, and carburetion. (My last few cars have all been relatively short, narrow, light,. V6-engined, front-wheel-driven, and fuel-injected...hence, just for the difference alone, I'd like to get something big, long, wide, heavy, V8-engined, rear-wheel-driven, and carbureted....albeit, I sure have a special place in my heart for these 1988-1993 Dodge Dynasties and Chrysler New Yorker Fifth Avenues, even if they all gave me numerous headaches and heartaches and carlessness in the end! Still, I love these Mopar hat-cars, even if they are the only Chrysler products I've ever owned....and, did Plymouth ever make an equivalent to the Dynasties and the New Yorker Fifth Avenues? I know there's the Sundance, but that's more similar to a Dodge Shadow than to a Dynasty or New Yorker! I guess I am really asking because, beyond pure and simple curiosity, I want to get the Plymouth version, if there is one, as I've already had the Dodge and Chrysler renditions!)

None of mine had the leather interior, though. And, my 1993 Dodge Dynasty (which, along with the 1993 Chrysler New Yorker Fifth Avenue I had, were and still are the newest CARS I've ever had; Albeit, I have had a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado K-2500 before), although white on the outside, had a very similar interior and upholstery to this Chrysler New Yorker...same blue with the "wood" paneling and everything! :)

This is a 1993 Chrysler New Yorker with OVERDRIVE! Overdrive is a nice feature that slows your engine speed down to save you gas on the freeway, since that is fourth gear, not that I would use the overdrive feature on those little roads that the guy in this video was driving. He was driving too slow for fourth gear and I would have moved the shifter to third gear to stop the gear hunting between the top two gears.

Just like 98% of all Chryslers in the 90's, this is an overgrown K car. Now, I happen to have liked my K cars back in the day (great $100 winter bets in NY) and they had pretty tough drivetrains. Everything else fell apart. LOL. Same interior as the Dynasty!
