The quintessential 80s American car. I remember these so well. The 318 V8 is one of the all-time great Chrysler engines; it's bulletproof. This is a great car. Thanks for sharing!
Look at those seats! That's not a car you drive to a destination, that's a car you drive just to drive.
I would live in this car)
Not only is it a car you drive just to drive, but a car you can't help but fall asleep in as you drive
Aaamen😮😮
Gorgeous! I remember these back in the day. They always looked like money to me. A miniature Lincoln. A friend of mine had one just like this. I loved the deep red, plush interior and the ride was incrediblely soft and plush. I'd drive the wheels off that thing.
My dad had one a dying old lady gave it to him before she died with low miles on it real clean, when we ride around the neighborhood in it people always looking it looks like a limousine, I loved that car he sold it without telling me I was so mad at him.
Damm
Rip Chrysler
Trust the Americans to go to town on their luxury interiors like this.
This one takes the cake!!
I like the brushed aluminium retro gauges. A trend that was to follow decades later. Thanks for the tour.
It was a top of the line luxury car to compete with the Cadillac and Lincoln luxury vehicles.
Exactly!
@@roya.cathcartjr.5042 about under $ 20000 back then it was loaded full of lURUXY
This is the car my parents had when I was around 6 or 7, love the interior! Wish I had this car now as an adult!
I’m more of a Lincoln fan but that is a hot Chrysler man.
Me too, I have a 2906 Lincoln Town Car but I really like this car here as I did in the 80's
These cars were very popular in their time. I’ve never been a big Chrysler fan but I loved this car. I was 16 in 1986 and remember driving my aunt and uncles. Beautiful dark gray outside with a lighter gray leather interior.
Very nice 5th Avenue! I had an ‘87 with leather pillow top seats, most comfortable of any vehicle I’ve driven over 55 years. Sold it with 215,000 miles a number of years ago. It still looked good, ran well. I have questioned that decision ever since.
These were always comfortable & beautiful automobiles & no you dont just drive to any destination; you drive because these vehicles make it a wonderful ride to ANYWHERE.....
This was the top of the line model for Chrysler. 👍
Real lURUXY
Love it! My family had an '84 in silver gray with matching grey leather interior. It had the stereo system with a button below the head unit that said something like power amp or something like that and when you activated it, a little green light came on and the rear speakers really pumped out the sound. Would love to find one today.
Very nice car. I own the same year Fifth Avenue in silver with gray leather interior and has 29000 original miles and has always been garage kept. Beautiful cars, thanks for sharing.
Wow everything is so beautiful in these cars. The quality, the smooth rides on the road and the style and appearance of these cars. I wish I was born back then:/
I bought my Fifth Avenue from an old guy who couldn't work on it anymore. Car needs a bit of work, paint redone on the top, window fixed on driver's side, stuff like that
But I love it and wouldn't trade it for anything
Except maybe a dodge demon but hey
Even in 1986, the Fifth Avenue looked dated. But the design is rather iconic at this point. Unmistakably Chrysler.
It WAS dated, but still sold pretty damn well. It was still beautiful.
I have never seen that particular model car in that great of condition. Gorgeous car, and I love the wine red velvet interior. That's what I want to upholster my truck in.
I was in high school when these came out. My auto shop teacher had one (RIP Mr Smith). It was Pearl White with the matching Corinthian Leather interior. Those spoke hubcaps were a impossible to clean. Back then there was a cleaner which was a mild acid and you just sprayed it on and rinse them off. That was about all you could do to get them clean.
Such a beautiful car. I remember when these came out in 1982.
El lujo americano a su máxima expresión, me toco manejar uno a principios de los 90s, era un carro hermoso
Thanks the video. I used to see these 5th Avenue New Yorkers all over the place back in the 80s. They were a great alternative to the Lincoln and Cadillac at a much lower price.
1:18 yeah those 80s cars had a digit missing on the odometer that meant that once the car reached 100k miles it would go back to zero, this car must have at least 100k +miles on it ,still a great looking car
Cool car, the interior is really neat, love the gauge clusters and the overall interior!
Beautiful car. Id be happy cruisin around in that plush old style!
wow, they really threw everything they could at that interior bling wise...imagine climbing in there with a bad hangover!
I want a modern minivan with this interior and reclining captain's chairs.
Parents used to have this identical car lol. Velvet seats were so amazing.
I love these old Chrysler 5th avenues they are such nice comfortable riding cars love them cars
A Lazy Boy on wheels
Nice
It appears to be in good shape for the year. The inside looks really comfortable.
This interior & dashboard were fantastic..!!!
I just bought one of these these same year with blue interior
I had an '87, white exterior, beige interior. Changed the entire interior to a dark blue crushed velvet interior. Wish I still had it.
This car takes me back. Its a shame cars suck nowadays.
I'm having a lot of flashbacks from my childhood...
Had a chance to buy one a few years ago. Darn it!
My aunt and uncle had this car when my cousin and I were very little. It lasted a while until things started to give out on it
I had one of these and so did my brother, both with really low miles mine with 82 k and his with 32 k. the lean burn fuel management system made these things slower than slow, and sometimes hard to start for no reason.
He said 4,000 miles on the odo, more like 104,000. It was cool that in short order most car makers switched to six digit odometers.
Fuuny Ive seen an exact FIfth Avenue to this here in Montreal 2 or three yrs ago. Even had that same red pintstripping but no hubcaps. Just as clean though.
Had one of these. 1987. Amazing clean comfortable car but mechanically it was terrible and always had a problem to fix. Engine failed at 63k. Super sad day
Thomas Cowell. I used to Sell these. The Engine was Designed to MisFire the #1 Cylinder when COLD, in order to WARM the engine up FASTER. Over Time, the Spark Plug would Deteriorate, and Drop into the Cylinder, Ruining the Motor.
@@howsyourpeterbilt6368...
So changing the spark plugs would have prevented the engine destruction?
This is all bullshit
nice vid
Love these old tech Detroit iron
thinking about changing the grill on my 12 chrysler 300 with a vertical billet grille and putting that chrysler hood ornament on it. I'll change all the chrysler logos off with pentastar logos
for the valve tick on a cold motor or starting after sitting after a while i use rislone ring seal it quiets it but it is still there the best i have used but my grandfather wants to keep the last original can is stp oil treatment it works wonders on these motors and the throttle thing i am not sure about if i ever come across a solution i will let you know
I owned one that was white with the red interior as in your video. The car was used and just about everything fell apart. The hood release switch came off in my hand, the power driver seat died the day I bought it. The car was riddled with so many issues and was beyond repair I had to donate it to one of those charities that took any car running or dead.
I love the interior.
ello,I want a steering column for a full newyorker chrsler 1986 turbo.
Y has t he near you? Thank you
what can i do to stop this? btw another issue i have is when the throttle is on 50% throttle, it sounds like pre-ignition spark plug knock i use 93 octane (i have to do this behind the timing it is set on), funny part is i upgraded to electronic spark igniton control in the distributor since those points kept burning up and making the car run like shit...if re-install those burnt points, it will have no knock regardless of the throttle load. i was told it was a lifter
Us older guys know that 104,000 was beginning it's journey 😂😂
VERY NICE
I want to buy such a car
Very nice. I have its twin, only mine is an 84 with leather and a sunroof. I have a short video of it here.
Nice :)
Wow! A bordello on wheels... :-)
:)
Beautiful car! Love the seats, I don’t have cassettes anymore.....
Have had Town Cars, Fleetwoods, and other luxury vehicles. Also had an 83 and 85 Fifth Avenue. They definitely held their own especially with plush velvet interiors. BIG mistake on Chryslers part to drop them! Lee Iacoca was NOT always right!!!! Creating these elegant sedans was pure genius 👌 😍!
I want this car imported to the Uk can we sort this?
Thank God for that!
Mikes car from breaking bad xD
And Sweets car from GTA San Andreas
loved this car. I met him in the House series and I'm coming in with the importation of one of these to Brazil. I just do not know if it's V6 or V8. We had Chrysler V8 in Brazil in the 80's. Is it a good car? comfortable? I liked it because it has automatic change, something rare in Brazil and due to the physical deficiency of an automatic. Sorry for translation errors.
I think all of these had the 5.2L, 318CI V8. They may have made a 6 in the Plymouth or Dodge version, but I am not sure. If they did, it would be a bare bones base car with dog dish hubcaps, vinyl seats, and roll up windows. The last year they made these was 89 and they really were not good cars then. I can't imagine that having one of these now in Brazil would be a good idea, as getting parts for something like this over there would be easy.
good car good MPG too
Did you say this only had 4,000 miles on it???? I thought that is what i heard but is that possible? The car sure looks like it is in perfect condition. beautiful!
It's probably rolled
Mike's car from Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad
And Sweets car from GTA San Andreas
nice car man
Talk about a throwback, same basic body and drivetrain as the late 70s Aspen/Volare if I'm not mistaken.....but certainly a much nicer and better looking vehicle. My Grandad nearly bought one of these in '86 but went with the front wheel drive, four cylinder K Car derived New Yorker instead. Not as smooth and quiet as the Fifth Avenue, but just as luxurious and a lot more economical at the gas pump.
This Chrysler Fifth Avenue the Dodge Diplomat and the Plymouth Caravelle were the successor (Replacement) for the Dodge Aspen and Plymouth Volare and also shared the platform of the Chrysler LeBaron Imperial and were the last rear wheel drive production line of Chrysler Corporation products until the 2005 Chrysler 300 series.
The Chrysler New Yorker and the Chrysler LeBaron were moved to the front wheel drive platform of the Dodge Aries and Plymouth Reliant.
@@roya.cathcartjr.5042 Plymouth Grand Fury here in the states.
@@aaronwilliams6989 Plymouth Grand Fury and the Dodge Saint Regis which are both counterparts to one another.
Here in Pennsylvania the state police throughout the production of the Plymouth Grand Fury and Dodge Saint Regis used both models in their fleet.
@@roya.cathcartjr.5042 You are right.
@jcb74 This particular interior was incredibly comfortable.
My neighbor had one of these in white!
I want one of these cars so bad!!!!!!!
im 17 with legitimately no experience driving and i’ve been handed down this car from my grandmother and i’m super nervous to even touch it cus its so pretty 😭
Is it black with the red interior?
No joke I'll buy it from you
mpg?? u mean like fpg?? Feet per gallon?
My buddy had one in Gold in and out. Man that was sweet! Edited to say, Is that A 318 Cubic Inch? I"m sorry I have no interest in alien Euro measurements.
Holy crap that looks like my grandmother's car back in the day
85 was all leather which I prefer ! Lovely car indeed
Leather was always an option. Cloth was always standard, 1982 - 1989.
i heard some ticking when you first started it, mine does the same., what could it be? besides, mine knocks on heavy throttle also
These cars naturally pinged at heavy throttle due to the fact it was a lean running engine. When it gets too lean, it affects the combustion chamber temperature by increasing the oxygen intake into engine. As such when you accelerate heavily, it ping because there is more oxygen getting ingested than fuel and that is one reason why it pings. It is also known as spark knock.
A couple of ways to help it somewhat is either retard the timing by a degree or two, or fill 94 octane premium in it.
As far as the noise is concerned on start up, usually, that is the hydraulic lifters. It is probably not getting oil quick enough.
@@sensiblebabyandreality6804 Yep. That's pretty much what I did. Couldnt afford to get rid of the lean burn system at the time, so I just ran it on 93 octane, and it ran pretty smooth, but still pinged going up a hill or so.. and I didnt want to lose power either by retarding the ignition timing. And that's not even the end of it. I still had to replace these "points" in the distributor twice in a year or it would still run like shit lol. And it also had this deal to where it would idle rough in gear, but it wasnt a misfire. It was that pos lean burn system causing those problems. I was going to go to a junkyard and pull a 5.2 magnum motor, harness and fuel pump and do a complete swap...but I dont have her anymore now. I now have a 07 grand marquis. I'll always have a rwd v8 vehicle.
Looks like the inside of match box
Sharp!
I had an ‘84. Good car and I put 134,000 before I traded it off
I'm more of a Lincoln Mercury person but those Chrysler aren't bad at all.
@Trance88 It is!
I bought this used in the early 90s.. mine might have been in 83/84 but basically the same & it had blue leather interior. I was single at the time and my friend was married with kids. We traded cars and I gave him this and he gave me a 1983 trans am.. with a whopping 170 horsepower..LOL
Did these have the slant 6?
Older models had the slant 6 but it was phased out after 1983.
@NadrianATRS Thanks. Russian accent.
Imagine that car brand new.
i love the dash styling. very cool but i don't recall the chryslers having a 5.2 v8 in them.
ha- i love the fake stitching!!
BEAUTIFUL!!!! CAN I HAVE IT?
THE BRUSHED ALUMINUM GUAGES ARE THE BEST......AT LEAST THEY WERE IN MY 85' ......
Lovely looking car. Although I've always loved American cars in general, my favourites have been Mopars.
I have too.
@@aaronwilliams6989 I prefer Mopars of the 1970s and 1980s.
@@jasoncarpp7742 Especially rear wheel drive V8s, right? You like the
1960s? Those decade can make you nostalgic. They do me.
@@aaronwilliams6989 Actually, I didn't grow up during the 60s. I was born in 1973. So nostalgia has little to do with it.
@@jasoncarpp7742 I understand
I wasn't born until 1966, but I like the way the cars look.
Clean car my naighbor had a red/red.
My grandma had a black one silver one and a champagne color i used to hid when shed take me to school now I want one 😂🗣
the chryslers or mopar i should say dont have adjustable rocker arms on the valves so chances are the tick is from the valves just craving oil until it works its way up to the valve train. my 83 fifth ave does the same thing
@Trance88 it is
You have a beautiful accent. Where are you from ?
I have a 1985 Chrysler fifth avenue bronze color
yo tuve un Chrysler LE BARON 1978 aqui en venezuela y casi igual. Por dentro si es lo mismo
i could sleep in this car its so comfortable

They had power seats and windows in the 80's?
+SmoothCriminalAaron
Ford Motor Company started installing power seats and windows since mid 50's. Both came up as concepts in late 40's
+AutomotiveReview Wow, during the 90's we just rolled up out windows with a crank. When I saw the power option in the 2000's I thought it was soooo cool.
Anyway, Can I ask what your car is worth? And if it is hard to find the V6 version, and any other tips if buying?
I had a '79 Plymouth Fury 318 EFI carburated power everything including glove box switch for trunk..
yeahhh soooo amazing eh?????? i thought they still had a crank handle to start cars in 1986!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+Terrence Gold I think you had to use a oil lamp as a headlight back int he 80's
there is one near me. red, with orange striped, for $700 i want it soo dang bad!!
the only interior change in 17 years was the steering wheel.
The interior is red velvet Kimberly velour.
