- In this video I give a short tour and test drive of the 1993 Ford Explorer Limited. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this suv while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I show the suv idling as well as take it on a thorough test drive through the city and highway on various surfaces. A thorough drive of this suv designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

Even though it's over 20 years old still looks like a great comfortable truck. I like the seats especially. I own a 2000 XLT and a 2001 SPORT(2 door)
John H I miss the old Explorers, the new ones don’t have much personality to them whatsoever
Typical Auto Guy
They should’ve left the column shifter in them. But at least the police interceptor models have them.
I love that clicking noise when you turn the steering wheel, only on the 1st gen explorers/ navajos
And the turn signal sounds pretty cool too.
@@MasterJim2020 and the doors open and closings espcially
Especially the transmission howl
That's in great shape for a 93!
I had an 88' Bronco II XLT, same steering wheel in it. Driving one of these Explorers takes you back to an easier time, when all you worried about was what flavour Kool-Aid you were drinking, and not over-microwaving your KD.
I still have my 88 BII (see picture) and currently am looking at a 92 explorer sport. I love these old body on frame suvs
I lived in the Cayman Islands and got an old 1993 explorer 2 door Eddie Bauer automatic in the American format. survived hurricanes and would never give in, cosmetically a wreck but mechanically best car I have ever driven. In 2020 it’s still going. Was quite enjoyable as I’m used to driving manual cars half the size! Would love to get an old model into the U.K.
Cool to look back and see how Kyle started his channel with very humble beginnings reviewing older cars on his parents lot. Now over a million subscribers 8 years after this video. And I bet he would still review an older SUV like this Explorer just the way he started, even with all of the much nicer and more expensive vehicles he's able to get his hands on now. We had a blue 93 XLT, loved it and will always have soft spots for these old SUVs.
This Suv is almost 30 years old and i would still buy one of these and use it as my daily driver!
it's great as a daily but the mpg is AWFUL
These were wonderful trucks. I love my 94 to death! This was the first Limited I saw in depth when the vid was posted a few years ago.
It is just so amazing that 93 Ford Explorer is just in perfect condition.
Try finding one in MN or WI that was used as a daily, ALL have reverted back to their "natural state".......iron ore (RUST)
@@TheOzthewiz I'm originally from Michigan I know the feeling live in Nevada now clean vehicles
Yep. Same here in PA. I have a 94 and it needs a little care tendered to the rust lmao
Im thinking about one of these 1st generation explorers and this video will help me make a decision in the near future. Thanks for posting this video
This was the same Ford Explorer Model that was featured in Jurassic Park Tours.
Jurassic Park used the 91 Explorer XLT not the 93 Limited but they are basically the same except they are different trim levels and also the only difference besides the trim levels is that they changed the steering wheel that was in the 91 Explorer.
This truck last my dad gots one 500k original miles and it runs great its a 1992 ford explorer 4x4 yea the 1991-1994 explorers have been the most reliable man this is gonna be my first car and honestly we taken a lot of super 24 hour trips or more on it and it doesn't complain at all it refuses to die (: ilove this fords
What can Ford say. It's Built Ford Tough.
GirlyGirlLovesPink_cx
Haha my 93 2wd ranger 4.0 has 500k plus and starts in -30 better than my 60k Honda does
funny how it has 440K miles less and can't start up as good as something that has practically been thru it all. Lol
Im never driving another Honda.
Lol.
Just bought the exact one hahah it makes me so happy lol
I picked up a 1993 sport for $1000 and it is hands down the best vehicle I have owned. 200,000+ miles a little rust, and a valve cover leak only add to the character. This thing is at home on nasty, washed out logging trails in the upper penninsula of Michigan. Unstoppable beast!
Very clean, like new interior.
Love it ✌️😎
great job man!
Man that brings back some memories
My girlfriend's brother has an older Explorer. While you didn't know that before, thanks for this awesome video!
i still have a deep blue 94 explorer. run great. been doing my own custom work on it, i love my truck!!!
i love these. i have an 02 sport. fun daily driver.
I like it. the ford explorer is my favorite SUV
It does 110-120mph, the national speed limit was 55mph on the highways in america at that time and to prevent people from speeding, almost EVERY car sold in america from the 1980s to the early 1990s had 85mph top speed gauges. That didn't prevent the cars and trucks from exceeding that speed obviously.
I want one of these with a Jurassic Park theme paint.
nice video.
I love the song abracadabra 6:00
wow!! that is one nice lookin ford explorer' for a 1993 model that look's dynomite!! that was an awesome driving video man loved it! awesome exeleration!!!
Great video!!! I like the 1994 one!
I like these a lot better than the 1995-2001's.
I do too
I DONT!!
I always loved the sound of the 4.0L OHV V6 over the 4.0L SOHC V6. My boss had a 2WD 96 Explorer Limited with the V6. I loved getting to drive it every chance I had.
the transmission on the 1991-1994 Ford Explorer
Transmission
5-speed M5OD-R1 manual
4-speed A4LD automatic
Reverse on the 5-speed was SYNCHRO, nice to be able to flick it into reverse without any clash or hang up!
My 1994 Explorer XLT has the same color combination Dark Cranberry Metallic with Mocha cloth interior complete with black leather wrapped steering wheel. Mine has 195,000 miles on it. I owned it for 7 years and this thing is beast on road.
Good video
I love Ford's steering ratio, for some reason it makes a car feel more expensive to have to turn the wheel so much. It makes a car with tight steering feel like a toy.
This makes me miss my mom's '99. I loved that car, and was sad when it we sold it. The transmission went at 60k, but that was still under warranty. We finally sold it when the car would start shutting off at low speeds. Before that, the cylinder for the rear hatch went, and the driver's side rear door then wouldn't open from the inside (We had this problem fixed several times, and the child safety lock was not on), but all problems aside, I LOVED that car, even if it was a lemon.
this was a real explorer that lasted and could take a beating we have one 500k miles still running strong no work has been done on it just starter and still running is still a everyday dtiver to work at the fields its been on long road trips hauling trailers man this truck is my favorite explorer the first gen explorer anyone who says explorers suck try out the first gen 1992-1994 u wont regret it all the new ones are trash
Jonnysrt8 Dodge Durango are much better then any Exploder. Durango have more power and reliable and super strong.
***** durango plagued with transmission issues
Jacob Evans not mine still run and drive like a champ :)
+Jonnysrt8 Durangos are riddled with wiring issues, I know several people who hate them. Best years of Explorers were 96-01 5.0s, more than enough power to do anything you need
Jonnysrt8 dad had had a 94 xlt transmission always went out miss the thing childhood truck
I had one and loved it in the winter. I NEVER, EVER got stuck and went up insane hills covered in ice and snow. I can't blame the car so much as the previous owners. It sat for almost 8 years. The lifters made a lot of noise and it was in the shop all the time. Terrible acceleration performance when trying to merge with traffic, and very sub par fuel mileage, but very well built and loads of room!
I owned that one for 7 years. It was the Eddie Bower Edition though. No Leather. lol
Can you test how much speed this car needs to roll over in a sharp turn? ^-^
really clean considering how old it is. I have a 92 explorer 4x4 I put a lift on, now I just offroad it :)
i love this car!
Does anybody know how to manually put it into 4 whee drive? The buttons not working.
The best ford for anything 👌👍
My Uncle had an 94 he bought it brand new in 95 when I 1st rode in it it was beautiful Good truck I remember when we will be on the highway and he had it in 4x4 mode if we hit an bump the truck will feel good rocking on those bumps very good truck it last him 12 years
this makes me miss my '97 explorer :(
Great test drive. This actually (in the video and its quality, at least) sounds a lot like my '90 Infiniti M30 and '87 300ZX, both with the Nissan VG30E.
No comment had a 92 m30
anyone know what that little cluster of buttons is right above the directional pad for the side mirrors is for? you can get a good look at it at 6:30. I have a '92 XLT and mine doesn't have that cluster, just wondering what it is.
my favorite explorer
Please make more of this videos. I`M YOUR FAN
OffRoadLover1998
I wonder what something like this would be like to drive with a well tuned 8 speed ZF automatic swapped in lol, or even a modern 6 speed manual
@sonyz310a I have had 2 and they both did that, when you turn the steering wheel it clicks, even without putting on the blinker
thats how they were back then, they had simple, squared off lines. they were very nice too look at, this and the old 90's tahoes and yukons. they also had simpler, more user friendy interiors, and no ugly aerodynamic bullshit or complicated interiors like new vehicles today
Wished they had BETTER rustproofing back then, on a quiet night you could HEAR them rusting!
I have A 99 explorer
runs great ive had it
for a few years now.
Oh, forgot to add. I laughed when you said it has a nice throaty sound to it. You should hear it when you hit a bump and the exhaust snaps right before the catalytic converter! I had heads turning. My ears were ringing but it sounded awesome! Sweatiest sounding V6 I've ever heard free flow to date.
Now it’s time to my frog for a test drive 😂
great truck, mine has about 570,000 miles on it, still running strong :)
High miles any tranny issues
It’s replacement bronco 2 is it what about a 1993 chevy blazer limited yellow
Love the blue/blueish seat piping! Didn't even know they did that in cars other than mainly English ones, let alone Ford...heheheh
Great truck, very straight body. As comfortable and disconnected as you can get from the outside world =P A side of me loves my Explorer, wish mine was the limited minus the running boards. I have an XLT 2WD with the towing package that includes tranny cooler, a high ratio posi rear end, sport seats and a nice sound system I put in. =)
Make that a jurassic park car:)
Yesss
Corbin I.N.C do you watch all of these Ford Explorer videos? Seems like,it
I wouldn't, only because it's a Limited, and I think it looks good the way it is.
My aunt had one of those.
Post Malone made a song called 92 Explorer and he sung that song about his 1992 Ford Explorer
i love the first gens im on my second first was a 94 limited like this only green now i have a 93 xlt favorite body style they made
Wow that's great i thought early 90's cars had barely any features... still not as much as today but pretty nice
the engine on the 1991-1994 Ford Explorer
Engine
4.0 L Cologne V6
Whopping 160HP for the automatic, 155HP for the 5-speed! The German built 5-speed was a GEM, even had synchro on REVERSE gear! That 5-speed on my '92 was BUTTERY smooth. I really enjoyed that vehicle for the 2 years I leased. Too bad they rusted SO BADLY in the long term when used as daily drivers in the upper mid-west!!
I hate how people are always hating on other vehicles. I mean, take the 90s compact 4v4 SUVs for instance. All of them are good, Explorer, 4Runner, S10 Blazer, Pathfinder... any of them. Anyways, looks like a very clean truck that Im sure pleased it's new owner.
Did this car come with leather interior ?
This SUV reminds us of Wishbone
I like the interior of the 97 - 02 models.
ExactlyPrecisely Never did like that one. But I hated the general "rounding" of cars that occured in the '90s. I liked the '80s squared-off exteriors and interiors better, and still do.
ExactlyPrecisely I have an 02 XLT and its interior is awesome, way more cooler than my 04 silverados interior for sure.
love explorer
what car lot is this im in sampson county nc and i am very interested in buying it if the price is right
@gm1990ss I remember it vaguely! used to watch that show in the 90's when it was on TGIF, along with Family Matters, Boy Meets World, etc......good old days!
Does the 1993 version have any airbags or not? Cause I really like this car but I can't get it if it doesn't have airbags :(
My dad had one only it was a 1994 xlt 2-door but it was the same purple color
@Motorfordtoyota That's because it's the same platform not body. And the Aerostar 4x4 version had a completely different transfer case and drive axles in the front. The Explorer and the Ranger shares the same drivetrain.
i also gotta a 94 xlt....before i bored and stroked the engine, i ran the living hell out of it, just tortured it, at the time it had 179,000 and still ran great....these explorers r damn near bullet proof
listening to yours make me wish that i got mine inn a automatic transmission, i start mine up & it's really loud.
@talldude123 im sure you can do a gauge cluster swap
this reminds me of jurassic park
why didnt you leave the song on at 5:57 that was a good song
@talldude123 I actually like the fact the the speedometer only goes up to 85, then you can easily max it out
@NewYorkCityBoy123 You working on getting up those videos of your BMW? Cause as far as I, and I guess a few other people here on YT are concerned you don't have one.
oh my god why cant i find one of these! i want another one. i had a 94 XLT (green) when i was living in grass valley california and i miss it soooo badly :( i look everywere mine was litterally show room quality but at 81,000 miles the trans died 4 years ago and sadly at the time had to move and sell it to pick n pull cause i didnt have the money to fix it :( any help ? any web sites or phone numbers ? please sir ?
Riley Pearson Check Craigslist in your area and nearby states. There will be a lot more in the areas that get snow sometimes. Check the Explorer forums and other for sale websites.
I drove a 91 XLT 4 Door with 5 speed manual until last year. Selling it was the worst decision I ever made. It was only 4X2 and a/c compressor died on me, but man I loved that car. 20 years old, with around 300,000 mi and no engine work. Let's see a Blazer do that...
@awslade87 its for the memory seats
I like these first gens because ford was trying to make a statement with these exlporer's they built them to last back then.
I prefer the 1995-2001 body style Ford Explorer.
How to get spare parts
nice... i still want it! (:-p)
@jkpol71 haha I know exactly what you mean, I had an explorer and the gas gauge never worked, a friend had one too and it worked "when it wanted to"
@XenomorphLV426 haha amen to that mate, amen... bravo.... I never like explorer, but after you say this i become obsessed....
If it’s for sale I will take it. Anytime.
@Motorfordtoyota the head problem was only in the 91-92 Explorers
I might get a 1991 Explorer, is it around the same as the 93?
NWI Equinox yeah basically
oh can you also do the pontiac montana
@ericgerth the 4.0 ohv on the explorer are good engine on the EXPLORER FROM 1991-2000
Looking at an early 90's Explorer versus the all new one, I'd take the one in the video, despite the risk of dying or getting paralyzed in an accident.
At 1:10... Good old R-12 Freon!
I found one cheap and thinking about buying it to drive to work lol sick of crappy 4 cylinder cars
My aunt gave me her 93 ford explorer with only 48000miles on it lol
Yea more like 248,000 miles
There's probably R-12 freon in that A/C system that's why it blows so cold.
