Creating a network bridge (using Windows 7). 1: Connect Jetpack to your laptop via WIFI. 2: Go to Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center, Click on Change Adapter Settings. 3: Hold Ctrl key and left click on your Wireless connection and Ethernet connection so
both are highlighted. 4 :Then right click once; and left click on
Bridge Connection. 5: Plug Ethernet cable from laptop into router. 6: Reboot / Power Cycle your Router. 7: After your router reboots, all of your computers on the network should have internet access!
Dude that was the fix I have been endlessly looking for for 12 years. Thank you so much for this video.
After hours on searching how to wireless repeat using my router, I thought maybe I'd try just searching wirelessly bridging hotspot and this came right up. I solved this issue within 10 min. Thank you so much!
Jerochy did u hook up eithernet
Yoir voice is such a trip......it's like two people live inside your body and are fughting for the spotlight 😂. It's deep af one minute, then super high pitched the other! Very interesting and unique
Thank you so much for speaking in simple terms and showing step by step for this "dummie." You are awesome.
Your welcome... I'm glad this video is still helping people almost 2 years later.
Thankyou Very Much.... Your the only person I found on here who knows how to do this and make it seem so easy. I was on the phone with Verizon for hours and they didn't know what they were doing.
Your very welcome! Glad it helped!
Very handy tip mate, thanks a million !
Thank you for the easy to follow video! Will this bridge slow the connection in any way?
Thanks a lot for the demo. My o ly question is if I have several wifi devices running on my wifi, when I create the bridge does the jetpack still function as a hotspot or the wifi devices need to be reconfigured to access the internet through the router?
Thank you I needed something like this. Greatly appreciated
Your welcome!
Thank you for this awesome video, cant wait to try it.
Will a USB to Ethernet Adapter let you connect the hotspot directly to the router?
Dude, this is what I was looking for. Thanks
I wonder if it works for processor like big desktop..
I just wanted to thank you for this video. We had a lightning strike in my neighborhood and it knocked out our cable internet access. Thanks to you (and a space pc), I was able to us my phone hotspot to run our small business network and keep the company open. Thanks, bro. - JD
Jd Johnson awesome! Glad it kept ya up and running!!! Always good to have a backup plan ;-)
I was so impressed with myself that I went out and purchased a Jetpack to I didn't have to use my phone a hotspot. HOWEVER, the Jetpack won't connect to my bridge. I contacted Verizon and they say the Jetpack won't work....which I find odd, because it works for you. Any suggestions?
Is it a newer model made by Netgear? Does it look different than the one in my video?
The reason why I ask is my work just upgraded to some netgear model jetpack... and I haven't tested that one out using this method, but you may be able to "tether" the jetpack and create a bridge that way... I will try to test it this weekend
I do not believe the new Jetpack (7730L) is manufactured by Netgear. And I could not find a way to tether the device, as the usb port is for charging only. I think I will turn this one in and pick up a used one off Ebay. Thanks...let me know if you figure out any work around. - JD
What if you don’t have a home network? Any advice for traveling and hotel use?
Thank you for your service..... And the video also..
I could be wrong but you shouldn't have 2 plug it into the WAN port on router. Wouldn't it work if in a regular port so all the computers can talk 2 each other still?
This works and thank you for the post! After watching this video It came to my mind to use a WiFi range extender instead. I bought a TP Link N-300 WiFi Extender ($17) and easily connected (wireless) it to the jetpack. I connected (wired) a Cisco switch to the extender using the Ethernet port The extender did a great job of strengthening the WiFi coverage on top of providing a port which I used to connect my heavy duty switch. The jetpack is now my main source of internet since I don't have fast internet providers in my area. It is a good solution with no compromise of speed and performance.
Bisrat I'm thinking of using the unlimited verizon plan jet pack for my at home internet.. my current internet is slow with century link b/c I'm in a rural area. Do you think this is be enough to watch internet tv, run doorbell camera, and security cameras? was also thinking of doing a wifi extender.. any advice is very appreciated .
@@k.waters6156 That is the same exact service/plan I am using. I am assuming the speed depends on how far you live from the nearest tower and other environmental factors. It varies from 4-25 Mbps in my case.
Hey got some questions ? Im behind apparent i know but im still in need of some answers .... 1st does my laptop need to be on all the time in order for this to work? 2nd my desktop PC doesn't or won't or hasn't had installed on it the Bluetooth drivers or what ever.... Will i have to run my laptop into my netgear router and wired from router to PC and constantly run both ?
Thank you. This worked! 👍
Great Demo!
Will it work with a network switch or does it have to be a router
You sir are awesome! Thanks so much!
Does the router have to have active internet service?
Thanks a bunch. I do appreciate it.
Does this work connecting the ethernet to a ps4
I have also done this using my hotspot. I only get 8gigs of that but I have a paid version of foxfi and save some of that hotspot data. Some router will let you use it as a AP.
I have tried this. and it will not connect to router. Please help
Wow, nice job, go blue
Thanks bro!
Roll Call
At 2:30 I could not read the screen. Could you send me a screen shot.
Thank You. Chris Lincoln
After your all hooked up to eithernet. Do you have to keep the first computer on for the others to work?
yes, because you need that bridge from wifi to ethernet
Can the router be any brand ?
Great video! Can you possibly use your main laptop to configure your router to wirelessly connect to the Jetpack, so you would not need to create a network bridge on the main laptop. That way the two other computers can automatically either via ethernet or wirelessly connect to the router? Thank you!
Thank you! Short answer would be no. There is alot of variables that could make it possible, but you would need a 2nd wireless card, and would be difficult to explain router configurations in one video. By making the bridge, and plugging your laptop into the yellow port on your router, your essentially telling your router to hand out IP addresses (DHCP) to all the computers on the network. I go the quick and easy route whenever possible lol... Thanks for the question!
Is there some specific router or software IN the router, that must be present in order for this to work? I have followed your instructions numerous times, but still have issues with wired devices being able to access the internet......also, adding a switch, the wired devices have same problem.
I’ve used this same tactic on different brand routers...My router is set to default settings... there are so many router makes and models out there, but most of them have a reset button on the back of them.
Thanks good info
anyone know how to set up your jetpack to have a static IP address instead of dynamic?
I believe the jetpacks only use dynamic ip address, I haven't figured out a way to modify firmware on my personal jetpack.
Will this not isolate the computer that you are using the bridges connection from the actually network. Will you still be able to access the laptop that the wifi is connected to?
It will be isolated unless you create a DMZ in the router for it.
Does the laptop have to be on all the time? Can you use the desk top instead?
Joe Black good idea laptop are not made run 24/7 if you have in interruptible power battery backup power supply you can have internet during power outage and also make sure your desktop have good cooling fans
laptops are no different than desktops as far as 24/7 goes. You can get both laptops or desktops that are super energy efficient and oppositely you can own a laptop or desktop that is power hungry and generates a lot of heat and is noisy. You can get low cost ones that die after 12 months. FYI, my current work laptop is a Toshiba L555 and has been powered on since July of 2009. It's been on full time except for a dozen airplane trips. The ideal laptop for this task would be a netbook sized computer for under $200. The other big benefits of using a laptop is that it has a battery so power outages do not affect it. You can also configure it so you can close the lid and not have it power off so it won't take up any room.
Thank you.
Could I do the same thing with a switch?
Yes
Thank you!!! You are a genius. Let me tell you. I tried with my hotspot in my cell phone and also with Verizon Jetpack MHS900L and Links WiFi extender model AC750 Boost.
You just saved me $82.00 every month. Spectrum was charging me 102.00 dollars every month the interest and local TV channels
So, I got the Jetpack MHS900L for a $1.00 with a two years contract and $20.00 a month for unlimited data with Verizon.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you,
I love it when people save money! lol... glad this info helped you out!
Brendan Davis Mine didn’t throttle down. I’m at a new Dept and don’t have a jet pack anymore, and I use my personal cell phones hotspot now, it works with no throttling on my account.
@Brendan Davis Yes, Sir for only $20.00 per month, but i have mi cellphone with verizon too
FYI - if you set this up but the wireless goes out when you plug in a LAN cable, you have to go into your BIOS and disable "LAN/WAN Switching".
Awesome! Good to know. Thanks for sharing!
so if you unplug the master computer from the router do the other computers lose their connectivity to the internet?
yes ma'am
Pointless then, unless you leave that mother laptop open and running 24/7, if you want constant ethernet on other devices. smh
Do you have to disable the DHCP on the router?
No. DHCP Server (LAN side) is kept as-is (typically on for home networks and off for business where DHCP is on a windows server). DHCP Client (WAN side) is on to get it's network configuration from the laptop.
will this work through a wifi router to send a signal throughout the whole house, or are the ethernet cables required? i live in the country and and have a great verizon wireless signal, but all the only internet is satellite and is super expensive and super slow. want to connect one of these to my wireless network.
I'm pretty sure it would work, you would just need to have 1 Ethernet cable to connect to the router (Creating the Bridge).
One Ethernet cable and follow the same steps in your vid?
The correct answer is 1 cable is required. But it sounds like you are confused, and rightfully so. What is going on here is that there are three LAN (local) networks and one WAN (ISP) network. Your home network (LAN) includes any combination of cabled computers and wifi connected computers and devices). Then 2nd is the Laptop's network on the WAN side of the home router. The 3rd network is the JetPack's wifi connection to the laptop. When the bridge is created it "merges" the 2nd and 3rd networks together. So now you effectively have two LAN networks instead of three (the one home network and the laptop/Jetpack network). Confusing your scenario is (i'm guessing here) that your satellite equipment probably has the wifi built into the receiver. So if you eliminate the whole satellite system you will effectively be eliminating your wifi whole-house connectivity. You would need to purchase a separate wifi access point and possibly a switch (or a router with built-in wif). This whole scenario is for someone who happens to own a Jetpack for traveling and would like to occasionally use it for a whole-house setup. If you need full-time 4G internet, which it sounds like you're ready to ditch the satellite, then you really need a piece of equipment that's designed for reliable full time use. See below:

I am getting some wifi in my trailer about 50 feet from my friends Jetpack in her house. But it's weak. She & I both have Imacs. I have to reset connection frequently. I have connected a USB RTL8191S WLAN Adapter, to suck in the signal. Although I have used this unit before with success with routers, I get a good signal after entering password key, but it disconnects after a minute or so. I get a message saying "..Adapter is not plugged in or the device at the other end is not responding" I am wondering if there is something my friend or I am not doing, or Verizon has something built in so as I cannot get a free boost.
The jetpacks really don't have alot of range to them... if your friend is able to put the jetpack in a high location
or in a window that is closer to your home, that might help a little bit. But if your wlan adapter has an antenna on it, I'd look on amazon for a high gain omni-directional wifi antenna($15-20), or for a lil bit more, get an outdoor directional antenna and point it at your friends home. OR depending on the landscaping, buy a 100 foot cat 5e cable for $15 and run a cable from her router to your house (pretty much the setup in my video).
At what point do your issues go away? If she moves the jetpack from the trailer to the patio outside does your connection work perfectly for hours? I'm thinking 50ft plus two aluminum trailer walls is your obstacle. Possibly you can cure this issue with attempting to get the least amount of mass using a direct line-of-sight concept. Having to go thru bookshelves or cabinetry filled with ceramic plates or water heaters kills everything. Without having to go external, window to window might be your best bet. Place the jetpack in her window and your antenna in your window. If that experiment solves the problem then you can figure out how to run cables to the window. If all that is impractical and you just want to punch thru the trailer walls, then you'll need a booster which I think should be attempted in her trailer first.

If the booster above does not help enough, then temporarily hang out the window to prove that it would solve the problem. Then you will have pursue something a bit more complicated such as the below. Of course going outdoor makes getting power to it a bit more difficult.
www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=B076M3V7RF
Just to clarify something, your idea of "to suck in the signal" is a bit backwards. You will go nuts trying to "grab" the signal from your end. What you really want to do is first boost the signal on her end. Secondarily you would increase the sensitivity on your end. This would be the preferred order of things. Not sure of your situation, like maybe she's letting you share the internet as a favor and then putting upon her invasion of her trailer so you can tinker with add-on equipment needing power and extra cables might be overstepping her grace. If it's all on you, then the ultimate solution would be an external directional antenna to focus the power which of course would require holes thru the wall.

Hope all this helps.
Cool vid
Thanks for the help and more importantly…….. Thank you for your service!
Thank you!
I have a jetpack as my home network, would this still work?
yes
So it looks like you have to please Department issue laptops to your house and the public is paying for your WiFi is that legal?
Actually, The two toughbooks in the demonstration are MINE... The jetpack was used as a demonstration and I have permission by my Police Department to use it... Feel free to contact a lawyer on if it is legal or not, thanks!
Lol , I'm an as s. Wrote that drunk. I'm Sorry man. I back the blue. Keep up the good work.
lol, drink one for me bud! I thought I had another troll on my hands!
Can that be done with cellphone hotspot?
Yes, it will work the same way... I’ve tried it on my cell phone and it does work
Do u get unlimited data with the jet pack?
yes, but i use it for work... so i dont know what the regular plans are.
Unlimited data on the Jetpack gives you 15gb of 4G then drops to 3G until your next pay period starts. It’s under $100 a month after your first month’s payment
you can lease other people's "TRULY UNLIMITED" plans with all the carriers on ebay. I have been doing this for an AT&T plan for several months with no problems and I am using 100's of Gigs of data per month. Search "Completely Unlimited" AT&T , Verizon, etc. My lease is $70 per month for AT&T and I bought the Netgear Device from the person on ebay. No Contract.
I use straight talk with that same hotspot. Straight talk uses the same towers but is half the price of Verizon. They also now have an ultimate unlimited plan that is $55.
It worked for a while and now I can't get internet to the router? I have deleted the bridge and remade but to no avail. Can you help me. Thank you
How much data did you use? I believe verizon throttles you down after a XX GB's of data used and maybe it slowed down to 3G (which could be unbearable). But I would restart the jetpack, restart the laptop that connects to the jetpack, then reconnect the bridge, then restart the router and give it a shot... I haven't tested it for an extended period of time because I need the jetpack for work, but we do have unlimited/un-metered data since its a government account..
Thank you for the input. I deleted the bridge and made another one and check the cable and my router shows no internet? I powered my jetpack and laptop and the router to no avail. And help would be greatly appreciated.
Do you have internet access on the laptop that is hooked up to the bridge?
What model jetpack you got... we just upgraded and I've never tried the new one for this yet
And the last question is... do you have the jetpack in charge or tether mode... because if it is tethered... WIFI is turned off i believe
This doesn't work. There seems to be a missing step. I made all the connections but my PCs on the network cannot access the internet. I'm not sure if he has TWO ethernet ports on that first computer or what but it's not working the way he says it will.
Yes I do
I'm confused, why not use the wireless connections?
The purpose of the vid was to use a verizon jetpack with a wired network...
Typically a wired internet connection is more stable compared to WiFi. This use to be the case, but if you’re in a good signal area, your connection should be fine.
You could but there are many reasons you might not want to. You might be be using firewall rules. You might have a large house with lots of dead spots. He could've optionally tethered the Jetpack and turned off wifi completely to help with radio interference to help other devices. I think he was specifically showing wired to exemplify a a typical home router setup.
Safety's off on the shotgun 😂😂😂
The term for that is called "Patrol Ready". Full loaded in the tube, empty chamber. Still hasn't gone off yet, but thanks for your concern.
Are you using your mic?
not in the car
Roll Call Tech I meant in the house. Bc it got super clear, sounded good
No I did not have the mic in the car, but I did have it on in the house.... COFFEE!!!!!

+Roll Call you need to upgrade to the new Jetpack 8800L
Does the 8800L work well? I've seen lots of talk of it rebooting often.
1:11 love this momment
Cant wate to try this when i get home thinks for sharing. This may be what i need to stop paying $70a mouth for crampy internet.
Wow
Don't want a ticket then don't break the law, we love you to man.
For some reason, I had to reset my router back to factory.
Interesting... now when all of this went down, did you change any settings in your router?
OK to Begin with, it did work after I send your video. Than it stopped. I took another laptop to see if I was getting out of the other laptop. I was so I knew it was in the router. I reset router and did not change anything. And it worked. I use this for my security cameras in my motorhome.
Awesome troubleshooting Sir!
Just to let you know, I fix the problem.
Awesome, what was the issue...
You should be working as an network engineer
Dude. Dude.
