  • My line of work sometimes I need a hardwire internet connection in the field where there is sometimes no internet. So I created a Hardwire internet connection with my mobile phone that I can use in the field to view and adjust cameras, unlock and upgrade equipment in the field.

    Got it to work (iphone 12 / tplink AC1900) like he states took a few times but it finally got online and working. Never could get the AC1900 to see my hotspot but was able to enter the info in manually. My cell picks up the 5G signal not 2.4 so I had to set the connection for it which seem to work fine. I'm going to set both up 2.4 and 5g so hopefully it will just know what to use when I'm on the road. Update: Used a Android Galaxy A11 and the tplink and this time it saw the hotspot for that phone... again worked well... Note: get 5G hotspot device (data only) or make sure phone gets 5G .. I was getting 5x the speed ! I realize not all locations will give you 5G. (Testing for RV life)

    Can you do this using a wired connection from the iPhone to the range extender or other device?

    • @RagerJackOfAll

      I have not tried that. I know you can get lightning to Lan or Ethernet adapters. I would "assume" you could create a local network but I'm not sure the iphone would push internet out of it over 4g 5g or LTE. You could probably connect to a local router to transfer data but not sure. Thanks for watching, if you try let me know if it works.

      Not sure, mine is my setup is more for temporary setup on a job site or multiple remote locations. The data thru your phone would maybe work 1 or 2 computers, could watch a movie on Netflix or something but if permanent you need to try to find a different solution.
      IF you have cell service where your at look at Verizon LTE for Home system, if not you can get internet on some satellite companies, but the Upload speeds are dinosaurs, since you are sending your signal to outer space, you may bet 1mbps upload. Downloads are much faster now on satellite. Hope that helps, my solution works good but make sure your data plan is unlimited, home devices use more data than mobile. Thanks for watching.

    What model iPhone are you using in this video? I ordered exact same repeater and the repeater would connect to my hotspot, but only to later drop the signal seconds after. I reset everything multiple times and still the repeater would disconnect from the hotspot. I was using my iPhone 6s+, but now I’ve upgraded to an IPhone XS and I want to see if it would work as opposed to my old phone. Sadly the carpet guys stole my lynksys repeater so now I have to get a new one and try my new phone.

      I'm using an iPhone 10. Possibly you have a data cap on your service, even if "unlimited" they will sometimes slow your speed down after so much data. This is really just a temporary fix or use, not a permanent solution for wireless for your home. I use just to get equipment set up in homes where they do not have internet yet. Most camera recorders, audio systems, even tv's now you need internet just to unlock them and get them started. The other thing make sure the phone itself does not have a data restrictions like in the settings such as "low data mode". Hope that helps a little, thanks for watching.

    Hello,
    I have an ethernet cord running from the router box to my computer which is in another room. I want to get rid of the long 75 foot cord so I will not trip. Would the Linksys repeater get rid of ethernet cord problem? When the internet is restored through my Internet service provider, can I still use the repeater? At the time of this writing, I am using an iPhone to create a hotspot on my laptop because I have no internet service.

    • @RagerJackOfAll
      @RagerJackOfAll  Рік тому +1

      I would use a Netgear to do that, if its just one room needing a powered ethernet or switch to a Mesh system like the Eero. Just need to make sure it has an ethernet port on the extender some do not.
      Netgear
      amzn.to/3zSafON
      Eero Depends on the size of your home if you want to boost the signal all over, when you scroll down it shows you different models for your needs

    I bought the exact item you linked, and it will not connect. I even called Linksys for help and they say this item will not create a stable connection to a hot spot, it requires a router which of course is not possible since there is no hard internet service at my location, just a hot spot. I insisted they talk to the experts there, after a 5 minute wait she said she was told by them there is no way to create a stable connection. In my case this is not a temporary hook up but a permanent hook up. Maybe the equipment has changed??? iPhone se I am using. This devise does not work for my application.

    • @RagerJackOfAll
      @RagerJackOfAll  Рік тому +1

      Possibly an equipment change on the newer units. I have used this for several years now in the field. Sometimes you just get the "wrong" person on the phone who has just learned how to do it the right way or just no field experience. The Extender regardless of brand should not know the difference between a hotspot and a router. The Hotspot is essentially putting out a wifi signal, the repeater/extender is just picking that up no different than a laptop. Try to factory default the extender, when you go to set it up, plug the extender in first, then turn off your hotspot, then turn it back on and give it a few seconds to see if it picks it up. This is not a permanent and stable solution, again I use this for field work to set up customers equipment when there is no internet, and depending on your location if you haven't got a good LTE/4g/5g connection it may not work. Try to reset, turn the hotspot off and back on and see if you get it. Sorry for the book above, good luck.

    I'm working from a hotel and I need Ethernet/stable connection. Do you have a vid for this?

    • @RagerJackOfAll
      @RagerJackOfAll  Рік тому

      No, that setup is for a temporary solution to convert your phone to a hardline, but you will be limited to bandwidth and capability. If you are looking for more of a stable connection you probably need a 4g or 5g hotspot device. Can get for various carriers either directly from them or Amazon... www.amazon.com/s?k=4g+hotspot&crid=38WZS6T8VTOW8&sprefix=4g+hotspot%2Caps%2C68&ref=nb_sb_noss_1
      Hope that helps answer your question. You will have to pay for the "hotspot" from a carrier but basically like a mobile internet connection.

    I have a laptop with no wifi functionality. I need internet when I go camping as I have no internet service but I have great cell service. Could I use an ethernet cable to go direct from the repeater to the laptop once I have the hot spot set up on the repeater?

    • @RagerJackOfAll
      @RagerJackOfAll  2 роки тому

      You could but you will be limited by your Phone provider on how much data you get thru your laptop. Pc uses much more data than a phone or tablet. For instance you could probably check your bank account but your probably not going to watch a movie on Netflix unless you have a 5G service, and then you need to check to see if you have truly unlimited data or sometimes they will restrict your speed after you use so much data. Again good temporary setup but not really made for long term. Thanks for watching.

    I tried this today with iPhone 12 pro max. The LinkSys device sees other wifis, even my neighbors' wifis, but does not see the iPhone 12 pro max hot spot. I contacted Linksys, who had me try moving the two devices from one foot away from each other to five feet. Still did not work. Finally LinkSys stated 'afraid that the extender can only detect the networks of a gateway, router, access point, and another extender since it's been designed and has only been tested to work with the said devices. '

    • @RagerJackOfAll
      @RagerJackOfAll  2 роки тому

      May be an iPhone 12 issue. It is defiantly a "workaround" to get a wifi hotspot. You may try to call back to Linksys again, sometimes you get the "step 1", "step 2", tech support and sometimes you get the tech that will go off the book and help. Your hotspot on the phone should work just like with any other laptop, or anything else looking for a wifi connection including the router. Maybe master reset the Linksys and try again, but again maybe a software update with iPhone that will not allow it to do that any longer. Thanks for watching, good luck, please let us know if you get it working.
