    Great idea. My need is to control my house smart switches without my lame (always going out) cable router. I think the only issue is that the phones AP service times out eventually, and then I’d have to climb in the attic and restart it. One of the joys of country life is I only get a cell signal in the ATTIC ! Maybe I can try to root my phone...

    My phone company is "Visible". Send in an old smart phone and get a new one free - works great (it's a subsidiary of Verizon and works on Verizon towers) - get three other people on the party pay plan with you (separate bills), and you pay $25.00 a month for unlimited everything, and no data lag. This is my internet now. The only hitch is that the phone will only connect to one device at a time, so I'm here to learn how to connect my hotspot to a router. Thanks for this info! forgot to mention: the charger for the visible phone is a smart charger, so even if you leave it on charge all the time, it does no damage to the battery.

    I have my iPhone hotspot connected to my router using the exact same bridge (Linksys WET54G) and followed your instructions. It does indeed add an internet connection to my TP-Link 1750 router, however, it seems extremely slow to make a connection to an internet resource. Once it does, the speed seems to be OK. In fact, I will get time out errors before a web page will load. If I connect to my iPhone hotspot via my wireless on my PC, I do not see these same delays. Is there something I'm missing that might be causing the lag in the response time?

Not how it works you actually need too configure a front end device to merge both signals. Hi, Kenneth. Quick question. Currently with home broadband and standard router from EE(I’m in the Uk). Line is old my best are 9Mbps Down and 1.something UP. I also have an unlimited 5G contract with an iPhone 12 Pro Max and allowed to use it as a hotspot for a maximum of 600GB of shared data. Due to a fall on stairs at work as a male nurse and trimaleolar fracture followed by surgery, I am still home recovering and my ICU is very busy so would like to earn partially from home as an interpreter. They’re not happy with my upload speed and I can’t get better as a home broadband. They do accept only home broadband. But I’m desperate since I’m very low financially and I got 2 dependants on me so want to try to use my 5G as hotspot with another phone ideally ( the whole things is through an app the company provides, the role being work from home phone interpreter).My signal is good where I am, ping and jitter higher than home broadband but speeds are very good. Should I just use the other phone straight connected to the iPhones 5G hotspot or try running it like the gentleman in the video ( I do have another router, Billion 8800NL R2)? I am not planning to use more devices with the hotspot and it’s solely for work. Thank you. P.S it did turned out into a very long comment/question:)) Sorry.

      @@japanluv sorry to hear about your injury. As I understand it, you want to use your 5G phone to connect to your Internet instead of your broadband. If the hotspot is sufficient and have the WiFi coverage you need, then it is find with just Hotspot. Use the method in the video if you have devices that are only using cable or the WiFi coverage is insufficient from your phones hotspot. About the bandwidth limit...I can only say, try it out. For reference, my familiy of five uses around 600-800GB streaming music, TV, Chromecast and gaming. Good luck with it and take care ;-)

    I was expecting to see some network fu to achieve this on a near impossible setup but this shows a dedicated hardware for the sole purpose. Leave a dedicated hardware, most of the modern routers come with repeater mode and all you have to do is select to operate in repeater mode and choose your mobile hotspot (or any wifi hotspot) to repeat. Then the selected hotspot will act as the WAN gateway and you can use the router normally.

      @tuck1726 2 роки тому +2

      For me it was clear what was going on, but I can definitely see where you could be confused. I am glad he kept it abbreviated. I will spell it out here.
      1. Get wireless bridge. (think of this as adding an ethernet port to wifi enabled device like phone)
      2. Connect phone to bridge.
      3. Connect bridge to router as if it were a network device(not internet port for isp/modem device)(this allows you to access admin page)
      4.Then go to admin page and change settings he listed.
      5. Then plug in bridge to internet port(where modem plugs in)
      6. Restart router.
      A computer is not needed in any step. All of those pages are accessed through phone. It connects like this phoneBrowser -> wirless bridge -> LAN ethernet port -> wifi settings page
      Note 1: I don't understand the need for changing the wifi security settings. I guess it is just to make connecting easier because it is same as hotspot(maybe devices will automatically connect if previously connected to hotspot)
      Note 1.5: You could turn wifi completely off and use router as ethernet switch. In that case the settings won't even be used, but you should still have internet. So, I see no reason for needing to change wifi security settings, but I haven't test.
      Note 2: Likely the DHCP setting needs to be enabled(like he showed). I don't know enough about the protocol hotspot devices with routers use to assign ip addresses. I will study this protocol in next few days and report back. The gateway ip address on hotspot will change all the time, so static setup will likely not work or be major hassle.

      because some devices use ethernet only? In my example I have a cloud based house alarm system which requires a direct ethernet connection from the block to the internet, if you have to buy a load of wifi dongles for everything it defeats to purpose of "saving money", you may as well just get an ISP, get a router and use that.

    No routers will allow USB tethering to a 5G Android phone. First problem is USB2 on most routers so not good enough to connect a 5G phone, you would need a router with USB3 to keep the phone fully charged.

    • @voidvev

      its because it doesn't work he never bridged the 2 devices, all he did was give the same SSID name to both wireless signals and give them the same password, this doesn't connect them kinda annoyed that so many people think it does and amazing no network admins speaking up.

    • @PrayerefireDS
      @PrayerefireDS  3 роки тому

      It should work equally well on Iphone. Once the bridge is connected to your hotspot you should be able to see bit as a connected device on your Iphone

    • @PrayerefireDS
      @PrayerefireDS  3 роки тому

      @@voidvev We did not give the same ssid and password to two networks. A bridge bridges between to networks, it does not make a network of its own. The bridge connects wirelessly to the cell phone hotspot and connects with a wired connection to the wan port on the router which then gives internet access to the entire home network. Hope this helps.

    ..... and this is why your not a technologist all you did was create another hotspot with the same ssid and password believe it or not there is something called a MAC address too distinguish multiple devices with the same name. This will not tether your phone to your router and your router to your phone "Connect Your Home Network To Your Cell Hotspot" if you had been tested you would've failed with no marks.
