So far, this is the best info on a scanner period. Why? You "DO" need to understand your car has systems not just switches. The use of live data and it's results are written into the diagnostic flow chart. Step 1, ck for codes XX, XX, etc. Can you communicate with the "BCM" body control. Press window down! Does scanner show down? Yes/No, Press special functions and command window down? Yes/No. Skip to step 11. Yes, a computer on four wheels, with room for the driver, 3 friends and some of your crap! This is the way they are built. People ask why. Easy!!! Parts go up, even under warranty. Labor goes up, even under warranty. How long does it take to correctly confirm the root cause? Way quicker than ever before. Remember, the cost of warranty repairs is figured into the cost of every vehicle. If you can reduce the time it takes for the new kid out of tech school to correctly fix the root cause, the manufacturer saves money, improves the customers satisfaction! Win/Win! I have been repairing vehicles since the late 60's/70's. I have been an ASE Master Tech since 78. 38+ years later, I start teaching & holding tech seminars on 30 subjects for over 100 techs in an evening for ACDelco. Now, advanced charging systems, serial data or alternative fuels. These are not your Grandfathers Chevy Pickup! These are the results of heavily regulated government restrictions placed on vehicles. What does "SAS" has to do with emissions? Nothing, except effect EPA Milage that is done by the manufacture! Yes, not the EPA($). What army of techs and equipment would that take? We are not talking "Emission's Testing" just those lucky states that require you to test for bad stuff out the tailpipe. Manufactures even wash vehicles, empty the fuel tank & washer bottles and seal them in a room for 3 days and cool / heat / then let resume air temp while monitoring vapors outside the tailpipe! This is serious because the government will not let them sell that model for that year if it fails and cannot be fixed! Besides, GM anyhow, sells the same model (Except RH drive) in 64 other countries. So, this brings us full circle back to a proper scanner. Live data as seen by the PowerTrain Module is right or 1-2 or more is wrong. Some set codes when started, tested, and fail! Other codes are stored in a snapshot (Fail-Records) on the second failure. It gets complicated quick. So, please pay attention to what he says in the video. As if you have equipment like this, you are able to figure it out once, how much did you save? They cost of the tool, perhaps! You-Bet-Cha!!! DK, ASE Master Tech since 78, retired. Building my own 56 year old pickup, but with 2003 Tahoe engine, PCM & BCM! I need a scanner also.
good for older cars, for new cars its useless , it cannot code modules to replace broken module on new electric cars like ioniq 5 or hyundai kona kia ev6 and simmilar .
You could use a different tittle to your video, Like..."If you don't know how to use a scanner, Don't buy one". I can honestly say that some domestic mechanics can afford buying a pricey scanner yet they don't know how to use it and even worse, they don't know the terminology of auto mechanics. I have worked on cars for a long time and am guilty as hell not knowing everything because I don't specialize on power train, electrical systems, suspension, etc. You have done an amazing video explaining how to operate a scanner. ME?, I just learned so much from it. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!
If he did that I wouldn’t click. I was hoping he was about to showcase the latest Launch, TopDon, ThinkTool, etc. scanner that does everything Autel does at a fraction of the price.
This is pure gold. You hit the nail on the head. If it isn't telling you what to physically do, people are lost and complain about a product being bad. Skilled labor is just that.. skilled, which in the right scenario could be priceless. Troubleshooting is a basic skill of life that I often find to be non-existent in individuals. Good troubleshooting skills will make you stand out. Just like the old parable, The Old Engineer with the Hammer, and knowing how to use the tool. Good stuff man!
I subscribed especially because of what you said at the end of the video. I am a single Mother and I've learned to fix a few of my cars on my own. Didn't have a choice. Not going to get into the whole story. I am not an expert, but I've shocked a few people in my life. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. It's people like me who need it. I say that with with the most very heartful respect. God Bless.
Excellent Video Lou. I was a mechanic\tech since for 45 years. Did many hours of diagnostic work the old fashioned way. I've been looking into a new scanner and considering this one. I still work with on antique vehicles as my specialty 1960's back. I laugh silently at some techs who should be listening to you, in their hands the scanner is a dangerous thing sir. Stay safe and I'll be watching to learn more and because I like the way you present the information and explanations. Thank you sir. P.S. We all still make mistakes. Lets pray they are the small non damaging variety. If I'm not SURE of what the outcome should be, I put down the wrench and go back to my manuals online. I'm past 70 and still doing repairs because I love the work and won't let technology make Me OBSOLETE.
Thank you, I truly aim to help and educate. It means a lot that you took the time to watch and then reach out. I appreciate you. I feel the same way. Go with the gut, if something doesnt seem to go your way walk away. Get clear. Come back and re assess. Thanks again! More to come in the near future.

@@MasterTechLou There's not a lot of Porsche's in my area. But I already own all the tools for German cars. Its all the Asian junk that is driving me nuts and the new trucks are a waste of steel as far I am concerned. There is nothing worse than a vehicle that decides to shut itself off in the middle of the mountains while you are surrounded by wolves big enough to shred a modern PU truck. Seems all this computerized junks causes more death and destruction than anything. And most mechanics now days can't diagnose anything without a computer to interface with the cars. But all commercial fleet vehicles must comply with federal and provincial laws so I can't simply convert everything to good old reliable analog technology. Looked up the model number and there seems to be listing all over for around 1200 to 1300. A necessary tool today.
Thank you very much for this video... I am a qualified mechanic and have been looking for reasons to justify a purchase like this for years, i am a qualified low level mechanic but the thing is when i got my qualifications cars back then where very simple and we had similar scan tools in our learning environment and we did touch on those subjects the thing is cars then didnt have as many control modules as they do now back then it was more of a premium feature in cars wich left me very confused and having used autodata and similar softwares when i was learning, it left me confused when it came to looking at these scan tool to buy for my own personal use Long story short i havnt bought one of these due to confusion and i only stumbled upon this video after looking at an autel product and you just removed all the doubt ive had over the years about buying a product like this Thank you so much
Glad I could help! I appreciate you reaching out and watching! I love this scanner so far, there are also some others that are starting to do similar functions without the hefty price tag but if you have a shop or do a lot of diagnosis, you will not be disappointed. Happy New Year as well and thanks again! Lou
I bought the MS906BT last year and it’s been great. The bi-directional functionality is main reason I bought it. Meaning it can initiate tests and calibrations to clear codes.
@@ericksoler1221 I have two different ones and borrow third on occasions. Not all cars work on any single unit. Your correct though it takes years of learning. I’m 60 and still learning
That's so true. A good scanner is great to point you in the right direction. But sometimes people think that they can just swap parts based on codes and that's bad.
Pretty decent tool, when we first got ours I was feeling pretty disappointed and was going to return it for a refund... I gave it a second chance and I have fixed so many cars with this now. My biggest complaint is all the features are not on one menu, you really need to go down multiple menu rabbit holes to find what you want to do. 2nd complaint is the battery seems to go down quickly 3rd complaint the screen feels like cheap plastic and scratches very easily. 4th complaint cpu processing tasks takes a while.
@@MasterTechLou Hey I'm DIY mechanic looking to get scan tool on the budget. I will be buying Coparts flood, mechanical, theft loss type of cars. What scan tool would you recommend this or CG Sulit 680 pro?
Thanks. Appreciate that you explained why you need a bi-directional scanner. I am taking an online class for auto electrical diagnostics and most of the videos that I see from pros on You-Tube have a bi-directional scanner and Pico scope so I am doing my research to make sure I buy something that will advance my learning.
Thanks I appreciate that. I will tell you that I have been working on cars for 25 years, and we used scopes more in class than anyone in the real world. They are handy and I recommend using them just to stay fresh with how to use them, but I cannot say that many techs ever need to bust out a scope. Normally its the ones that want to show off how smart they are HA., but the graphing on the scanners is usually just as good as a scope it al depends on the scanner and the refresh rate of the data. but I hope you find what you are looking for, if theres anyway I can help please dont hesitate to reach out. Best of luck, Lou
@@eyesalooking so far I love this thing! I did already find an issue where it cant read nissan air suspension! But my launch did. Which was kind of like wth, but it does so much. Truly worth the cost.
You so hit the nail on the head with this video. I was looking thru the GM service manuals and saw, as you said, very few if any switches or other user electrical controls communicated directly with an end item. So, it seems that the scanner helps to see that the "code" running inside a control unit is reacting to user inputs...or not in order to command the end item. Thanks again awesome job.
2:26 exactly! That is why I coined the phrase "parts replacers" because they replace parts hoping the problem goes away. The trouble is, few are good at diagnosing problems.
Good content and the notion of why to buy a scan tool. You're quite correct, we need to know basics plus before plugging in a scan tool. I'm not an auto mechanic by trade but was blessed/cursed with the ability to diagnose and repair the junk in the yard. The 2023 maxi check 808s I ordered is on its way and I followed along to get a sense of what's inside. I spent a lot of time in a Curtis remote tool for all electric vehicles in the airline industry we built. These Autel scanners are similar in function once inside and perhaps more intuitive than a Curtis. The scanner will hopefully help here in the yard and also my son's wife has a fleet of Chrysler vans that may need the bi-directional ability to help trace troubles when they arise. Thanks Lou!
Sweet! I purchased the MK808Z-BT. I was about to replace the entire ABS unit, but the scanner removed all the air that was in the unit. All good, that's really some basic stuff. Your video shows some really good stuff. Thanks!
Lou, I really appreciate your videos sir. I'm 71 and worked for most of my life as a Mechanic/Tech, either on automobiles and trucks, and finally on heavy equipment. I mostly enjoy your way of disseminating the information. Most often in simple terminology that none tech types can understand. I'm not as young as you, though we have the same hair style. I wonder if you have ever considered presenting a video explaining to the non technical types the danger of Scanners. I bought a Maxisys MK906BT for my birthday last year. I'm not dead so I still like repairing my own vehicles and the scanner has been a real joy. My point is this, I would never let my granddaughters by friend use it on his car without me right there. He's a computer wizard, but nowhere close to a auto technician. I have seen people (some who are supposed to know what they are doing) literally create more problems with a scanner than they fixed. However I have never seen any kind of cautionary guidance video anywhere. Perhaps I am mistaken, but it does concern me considering that all kinds of online shops are selling these to the general public. Have a great day and please continue to educate the folks out here. That way we won't see so many burning Audi's on the side of the highways. God Bless, and stay safe dang it.
Hey thanks! You are so right, there are things people can do with scanners to cause more issues. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. I do truly hope to educate with my channel. I will take your suggestion and see what I can come up with!
@@MasterTechLou Im barely a home mechanic lol. looking for a a good scan tool to reset lights and figure out why they are lit I. Was a beautiful video bro. Recently graduated tech school, grabbed a job at a school bus DOT shop. Prep buses to pass inspection is my daily duties. Buses come in with check engine light, are then scanned by supervisor of shop, then the problem can be tackled BUT ONLY after supervisor scans the bus. I said how come only you can scan the buses? No other tech here scans whether new or seasoned, no one scans but you? He said “THEY ALL REFUSE TO BUY THEMSELVES A SCANNER. Even the guy wit 17 years here!” So i told myself i will make it my business to own my own scanner and scan my own buses when the time calls for it. My supervisor uses either the 906bt or 906 pro, i have to check again. But i see him do EVERYTHING with it and i would love to learn to do the same when i get my own. So this video was GOLD sir. Appreciate your time and “agressive teaching”🤣💪🏽
Man I appreciate that feedback. My videos get better I promise 😂 this was one of my early ones. I have a lot of passion for doing things the right way. I was often hard to work with (back in the day) because I felt no one cared as much as I did. Manager is also not doing you a solid by not teaching you. So make it known to him you wish to learn. He probably, hopefully, will jump head first into teaching you. Best of luck to you!
Also, if your shops main business is prepping busses for dot, why is there no “shop scanner” that doesnt make sense so inquire about that as well. Why is it on you to buy a scanner? Tools? Sure, special tools? No, scanners? No, the shop should supply that, if not they are setting themselves and YOU up for failure from the git. “Here diagnose this bus but we’re not gonna give you the proper tools to do so” is what im hearing. So inquire. Worse they can say is no. But a scanner should be supplied by the business.
Thanks Lou, this video gave me direction as to how to use the 906bt. I just bought this mainly to maintain my own vehicles but can help others as well. I solved my first problem by watching this video 3 times to ensure I was doing it correctly. A memory seat module on an 04 caddy cts. Thanks for the help I hope many more videos with this scanner are coming 😊
I have an MK808 and it is very useful but you have to know how to get into various systems and functions. Thanks for tjis video, the title probably click baited all us owners of these great machines lol Cheers from Australia
This is a great scanner it reduces my time by 50% in the worst scenario. in the best scenario it in the 85 precentile in recognizing a fault. Car parts are too expensive to be guessing on a BMW . or any very expensive car. There are systems on cars that you cannot diagnose or reset with out an OBD tool so by the tool and make three times as much money. There are millions of cars on the road so trust me you or this guy are not the only Mechanic with knowledge .
Got a 2019 civic battery died while at gas pump put in new battery drove home put my multimeter and altenator was putting out 10v went and got a new altenator, every waring light came on put my elchepo scanner on and it had 2 lin codes and a abs code. It was at this moment I went online and purchased the autel mp808bt yes it was 840bucks. And the 506 battery altenator tester within 10 min I new the new altenator was faulty swapped it out all codes went away and all systems started working again (Lane keep assist , adaptive cruise, lane depart, ect) The reason I share this is I took the care to autozone advanced O'Reilly and all three said everthing was good. If you own. New vehicle you must own a good scanner know days even the altenator communicates threw ecm or pcm and can cause major issues just from bad new part. Thanks and again use your tool and educate yourself. Also note had I taken it to a dealer they would have said ecm or pcm was bad and charges me 1299 dollars spend 850 on a scanner and can do the work myself
Good video! I have spent a lot of money on scanners and the worst experience I have had was unfortunately with an Autel scanner. It just stopped whilst underwarranty and the supplier and Autel made every attempt to avoid attending to it under warranty. I still have this new scanner which is useless. So I won't buy one of their products ever again. I have found many better companies to deal with that offer much better products. I only hope no one else has a similar experience with Autel as I did, because it was really bad.
actually on my chevy if I get out of the car and close the drivers door when it's running with the fob in my pocket it beeps the horn 4 times way faster then I ever could. Once again very nicely done and I could actually see what you were doing IM a retired master EVT tech. But the new technology is amazing
Awesome video! I’ve been thinking about buying one of these but couldn’t justify it since I don’t know how to use it. Looking forward to more of these videos!
Great Video, Liked the comedy garnish at the start, but then serious stuff after that. These tools are essential for modern vehicles but they are just a tool. Spent a couple of hours trying to code an Audi A1 for a replaced Electric power steering pump. Then the stripping down revealed a battered pump bracket "Yes the vehicle was involved in a front end impact" torn anti-vibration mounts, obviously not new pump "Well... it's been like this for six months" and finally a broken high current +B -B cable which has no key. Stripping down the pump itself reveals that the "Fitter" who did the pump job plugged this cable in backwards causing the short circuit when plastic separating terminals melted. Don't know if the pump is going to work, visible damage repaired, no blown capacitors, waiting on new housing for terminals and anti-vibration mounts from dealer. The scan tool will then be able to see if the pump module is good or goosed. The owners son bought an Audi A4 cabrio 8HE with a broken roof, again an electric motor powering a hydraulic pump working the roof through three valves. Whole assembly $1500, Fixing it for no money by clearance the new brushes and brush housing so the spring could keep the brush in contact with the terminal ring - Priceless!
@@MasterTechLou Just got home from DPF regeneration run on '13 Mercedes E220 Cabrio, monitored by Autel MK808. Wasn't able to force regen on this vehicle using this scanner but I was able to monitor live data on a single page with all relevent PIDs for DPF displayed. Previously was 400% particulate level with 50 failed regen attempts. First I informed the vehicle of the good news of it's "New" DPF.... Which suddenly allowed the system to regen itself! You deserve the nice comments, It's the least I can do compared to your efforts to educate and inform (and remind) us that WE are the masters of the robots... Understanding what the car wants to see to be able to perform it's Californicated duties has been crucial to getting this vehicle happy where many others have tried and failed. Nice anecdote for you to pass on maybe? Even at 400% full, with a bottle of in tank DPF burn promoter and the correctly applied driving style, this DPF will continue it's service life. Thank you for your dedication to our art.
Thinking of buying one of these £800 down from £1600 Mainly I like the idea of being able to do my own servicing, battery changes and brake changes and resetting the service lights/bms etc without needing to go to the shop. The live data/data logging function is something I’m also very interested in given I’ve spent 3 years doing a motorsport engineering degree with data acquisition and analysis being a major part
The thing about that is, you need to have the knowledge gained with experience and education to be able to interpret much of what the Autel has to offer. It's geared more towards the automotive technician, not the average vehicle owner who wants to do the services you listed. This won't help you change a battery and service your lights. It will help a trained technician identify a fault in the vehicle. I've been using one for a while at my shop and, even with my experience, I sometimes struggle to understand the output. Hope that helps!
This is educational thanks , am watching these reviews am about to purchase a scan tool for mainly Toyota Hilux diesel & Petrol , Nissan Atlas small trucks 24volts and regular SUVS. this was a great review.
I agree most scanners are junk..you need coding, adas, bi direction controls etc now a days. Most of the lower end Autel’s are code readers. The 906 and up is way to go...But yes the person needs to have a diagnostic path and follow it using reasonable deduction. Also need wire diagrams as well.
Very good point in applying basic diagnosis. Looking for a scan tool that can read modules and clear error codes on 2012-15 Chevrolet Volts. Would be nice to find one that does not use pirated software or requires subscription. Maybe I'm dreaming? I'm not a certified tech and don't do it for a living, respect those who do it everyday.
Subscription is only for updates. Most dont need a subscription in order to keep working unless you buy a snap on or matco. Then the software gets locked out which is stupid. And they are all pirated software but I cannot confirm that. I am told companies reverse engineer factory tools and combine the software into their own tools. But I don’t have those facts. There is no 1 size fits all scanner. But for a car that old, if youre just looking to read and erase codes, theres plenty of options for you.
Thanks for the video. I've been using one for a while but never thought to use it for windows! I just had a vehicle with a failed window switch. My first step was to pull the door panel and manually check the switch. This would have saved me a ton of time in the diag! I had the tool there and didn't even think to use it! HA! I just happened to watch the video because I was curious why someone would say the autel was useless, but learned something!
I appreciate that, you can agree the tool is useless in the wrong hands. People assume scanners say “hey fix that” and we both know thats not what they do. They are just another tool we use to diagnose the issues.
@Master Tech Lou For sure! I mean, we all know that a misfire code means replace the engine, right? 😆 🤣 Reading the codes just gives us a clue of where to start. Then the work begins. It's all about testing and troubleshooting. That takes study, skill, and being too stupid to quit. 😉
Thank you I appreciate the nice comments! the challenges will never stop! I promise you that. Again I appreciate the nice comments, it means a lot. I wish you the best. Lou Palomino
Verbiage with tools is imperative these days. The 906 is a diagnostic tool, a scanner just scans and reads codes. Too many people think a $99 scanner does enough, when actually it does nothing to diagnose vehicles.
I screwed up. I bought my MK906bt BEFORE watching your video 😡🤓. Mine came w/a borescope. It’s going to take a while to learn all the things it’s capable of (if that’s even possible).
Oh no! I’m sure the MK906 will provide you years of use. And yeah you would have to use every vehicle every option to understand its capabilities. Well I like to do is I like to plug it into a car that I’m working on and just get lost in it because that’s the only way you’re going to learn is by making mistakes. And there’s nothing you can really do with the scanner to ruin the car.
I don't rely on live data after my Dodge Nitro front windows didn't work but rear did, they would work from the scanner but the switch didn't so i replaced the switch but no fix due to front windows being run on Lin Bus and rear the normal wired way. anyway the Lin bus power supply wire was broken in door pillar so no power supply to switch for front windows but the scanner could operate them from the TIPM. The Lin bus also operated the mirrors and door locks as it turned out
Lou: Great video knowledge is power. I could not agree more with your assessment of the skill sets of employees. Being a part changer is not the way a proper mechanic should work. This diagnostic tool is great when compared to a 50 dollar fault code reader. Good job Thanks and keep the videos coming I will use this as an instructional video for my staff. Joe
Hey Joe thanks man! I truly do aim to help those that watch the videos. I have a lot of pride in what I do not only in my videos but especially in person with the people and cars I’m working on. As you know it takes years to understand the process and approach to diagnosis. Im hoping to speed that up for those that watch my videos. Thanks again man!
Loving your videos. What is your view between this Autel and the Xtool D7 you reviewed earlier in this year? I'd also be interested to hear your view on the robustness of the casings between the two.
@@grumpygreyhound1549 thank you. I really am loving the xtool brand! At the moment, I think autel has the reputation, but cant back it up with the hardware as the battery becomes junk within almost 2 years. But xtool has done extremely well for me and the hardware is cool, it just had a more solid feel to it.
There are people out there that may not know much about these scanners, but watch yours and other videos like this since they want one. They may want to go a cheaper route with a tablet base scanner thinking it would do what you just did like actuate the windows, not knowing they need a bi-directional scanner in order to have those functions. Not all are bi-directional. I myself have an Xtool D8 scanner, but I love these types of scanners
I just purchased that Autel unit, haven't received it yet, saw your video, and was like..."AWWW F@#$ !!!". Thanks for the info, and actual good things to say about the unit.
IT was clickbait but we'll worth it That is a very nice scanner.Mechanics do tend to curse a lot.And we"re not all stupid we"re mentally challenged Thanks for the demo
Working on my cursing. Especially for my stand up comedy. Ill edit the curses, and it takes clickbait to be able to get my point across. To much clickbait out there with no message. I aim to teach and educate. Glad you enjoyed!
This stuff is good! Thanks for bringing this topic and showing actual the value of a high quality scanner. A bit dissapointed to see you in a Dodge with this scanner :)
One thing I hate about Autel. Go into engine ECU and live data. you wont get the same options on all engines. I wish you got the same list and if say a sensor was not available it just say n/a. So I can find crankshaft sensor without having to search loads of different pages.
@@MasterTechLou i charge by the hour but still. I changed crankshaft position sensor on mercedes a180 and still to this day cant verify if it works using autel ultra. Live data it just does not appear there. How crap is that to omit that sensor.
@@MasterTechLou compared my ultra against im608 pro and ms906. Truth. Same data on all. Ms906 is small and great. Prefer using that mostly. Oh and intelligent diagnostics in ultra. Never once worked. Topology junk too. 😁
Is Autel the top of the line brand when it comes to multi manufacturer auto diagnostics and programming? What is the best out there if money isn't an factor.
There is no top of the line brand as everyone has their setbacks. Autologic and some others are very competitive. Shops always ending up needing 2-3 different scanners as no one scanner can do everything you need.
I bought the same tool in aus and it was a great tool to look at but it was terrible for my old vehicles which could not even auto vin 1800 brick but a brick would be more functional than the MS 906BT 0 after sale or a response contact manufacturer via tool Free I'd say keep it with the Holden vy and falcon incurring more faults and dtc engine abs and srs on cleared 0 dtc These folk given the tool to promote. Toolpro 30 tool more functional Topdon phoenix elite my hope
I bypassed your video as I thought you were just bashing the scanner. A couple of years ago, I bought an Autel 529AL. There are no videos on it and the instructions are poor. I just bought a 2011 Ram 2500 with a 5.7 V8. There are two engine codes. The first one is P0301 (Cylinder 1 misfire). I replaced the coil, but when I tried to clear the code, the engine light went off and it said "Sending" on the scanner, but it never cleared the code. Within a minute of driving, the engine light was back on. The other issue was a light on the dash that said "Loose Gas Cap". I also saw a code P0456 on the scanner which said Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (Very small leak). I bought a new gas cap and changed the Evaporation Module. when I went to clear the code, it said " Sending but the code did not clear. Only the Loose Gas Cap message on the dash disappeared. I am not sure what to do next. The truck runs smoothly and the previous owner changed the plugs two years ago. The truck has only 138,000 kms/86,000 miles.
I dont bash anything :) at least not publicly haha. check my videos for my misfire diagnosis one. that should help. as for the evap leak, small leak means it can pull a vacuum but it loses vacuum over time. those can be tricky, fuel pump seals, evap lines, gas cap, purge valve, canister valve. can be tricky to diagnose without a smoke tester.
Hey Lou awesome video have you used the scanner for lane control or back up sensor issues? Love to see some diag on some harder issues to see how the scanner can help out
although an older video, its a darn good one.. im actually looking into an autel scanner and this model one too. what you explained here Lou is dead on.. if you know how to use your equipment, life is easier haha

I had a problem with my Aircon there were codes. But both launch pointed the problem to the control panel of the Aircon. But it wasn't. It was the actuators problems
I scanned the car the scanner TOLD ME TO REPLACE THIS. no., no it did not. That is why I try and make these videos, to educate. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment! Thanks! Lou
From the other side, I hate the mechanics that think scanning for codes is a diagnostic. I've had so many mechanics throw a snap on scanner on my truck and just read the coded and say replace X. Meanwhile, my $500 scanner that isn't bidirectional but gives live data, I can almost always use that to diagnose the actual issue.
Really like your video on this Alltel scanner. Does this model do climate control system testing on the blend door and temperature door actuators, also does it do engine cam actuator tests for timing chain timing? These are just two systems that I run into all of the time
Thanks 😊, basically if the factory scan tool can do it, this one can do almost 90% of what the factory scan tool can. It can control blend doors and do a relearn if the module has that option. And yes also cam actuators/solenoids.
The waveform scope on the autel is way better than a Pico scope and laptop software. The autel is so intuitive and easy to use. Pico feels like windows XP.
Yes if you dont know what you are doing and you try coding be carefull you could mess up badly i dont know if that scanner dose but create a backup of the coding before you mess with it also those scanners are not cheap they better have a backup option hate me now thank me later
Great video! it made me realise that I'm not really using my autel mk808 to its full potential. just out of curiosity, can you use this method to pinpoint a camshaft position sensor fault? I have a car with this fault but as far as I'm aware you need to test the sensor with a scope. After watching this video I am thinking the autel may have a test for the sensor or wiring.
@@stevendyson6712 graphing might help. But to truly diagnose a cam sensor issue it depends on a few things. What the actual code is. If it says circuit fault, then its wiring or sensor. If it says short to power, or ground, or signal then you need to focus on that specific wire. If you have more than 1 sensor on the engine the swap it see if the code moves. The graphing would just help catch when it drops out. But when you get into catching crank and cam sensor issues, its usually a bad sensor, but try to find the consistency in failure so you can reproduce it. Wiggling wiring, check for oil ingress. Hard to say what I would do first if I never had a cam sensor issue. Hope this kind of helps
@@MasterTechLou Thanks for the reply, some good suggestions there thanks. The code is P0340-28 Camshaft position sensor circuit range/performance. I am thinking it is more sensor related but i am going to check the engine timing first as i have a feeling the timing belt maybe a tooth out?
At first I was like "what's this dude thinking? Mine is superb!". But yeah, these are great my maxitpms ts608 is amazing! lol. What I hate, nowadays, is a customer insisting it's bla bla bla because "autozones scanner said so",
I was an mechanic for 15 years before getting into trucking back in 2004. I still from time to time work on my own vehicle and help others with theirs. Due to technology getting to where it's at even in used vehicles, I have been now looking to getting a scan tool. I really like what I've seen with the Autel scanners and would like to get one with bidirectional capability but being I no longer work in automotive on a dally basis see it feasible to purchase something like you have which now is over $1200. Was wondering if you could recommend something or if that's the minimum for bidirectional
Hello, so the mk808 is a lot more reasonable and is still bidirectional, also I hear the new icarsoft 3.0 Are bidirectional. I am about to get a few to review. But also the launch brand will work too.
I like your video's. We have a small shop and would like a better bi-communicating device to better solve issues. Is this the device to purchase or the X-Tool A30M. Watched both video's and not sure which way one to purchase and from where. Thanks for your comments and keep up these awesome and informative videos
Thanks I apprecaite that! well it depends on what you mean by small shop and how in depth you go with diagnosis. I also just acquired a topdon pheonix and will be reviewing that soon.
@@MasterTechLou we have auto sales and a part time mechanic and a 3rd party mechanic's shop. There are times we are frustrated in not being able to diagnosis symptoms that end up to be a simplier problem. Maybe I will wait til' you post the Topdon Phoenix review for us to make the decsion on the purchase.
@@johngullo2524 yeah so the autel AND a30 have been good to me with very few issues. Im actually shocked with the a30 as for the price and what it can do, has been impressive. and we are talking a huge price difference.
Lou - thanks for the excellent orientation on the Autel mid/high end tools. I see you are a BenzTech. I need an Autel or Carsoft for SBC deactivation, ABS bleeding, battery replacememt and other MBZ service functions on vehciles up to 2016. Is the Mx808 sufficient or do I need a higher end/newer model (especially considering bi-directional)? Thank you for reading and a good video. Much appreciated.
You want MS models. Also I just disconnect sbc for deactivation. We dont have abs bleed except for sbc and you only have a few models that actually require battery coding in the sam. So the MS models Will do fine
Hey man I just went out on my own in November and was borrowing a buddy's snap-on solus watched a few reviews and they where good but like you said you can't know everything but you have to know where to get the information got my follow
Thank you I appreciate that!
But thats not how Clickbait works! ;)
Good Video anyway! Thanks for uploading!

@@MasterTechLou Same here, getting tired of doing things the hard way. What model of Autel scanner is this and is the price fair?

Can you please help me with scanner
Thank you very much for this video... I am a qualified mechanic and have been looking for reasons to justify a purchase like this for years, i am a qualified low level mechanic but the thing is when i got my qualifications cars back then where very simple and we had similar scan tools in our learning environment and we did touch on those subjects the thing is cars then didnt have as many control modules as they do now back then it was more of a premium feature in cars wich left me very confused and having used autodata and similar softwares when i was learning, it left me confused when it came to looking at these scan tool to buy for my own personal use
Long story short i havnt bought one of these due to confusion and i only stumbled upon this video after looking at an autel product and you just removed all the doubt ive had over the years about buying a product like this
Thank you so much
Glad I could help!
I appreciate you reaching out and watching!
I love this scanner so far, there are also some others that are starting to do similar functions without the hefty price tag but if you have a shop or do a lot of diagnosis, you will not be disappointed. Happy New Year as well and thanks again!
Lou
I'm in exactly the same situation as your self , I also felt confused and very worried of being left behind
I bought the MS906BT last year and it’s been great. The bi-directional functionality is main reason I bought it. Meaning it can initiate tests and calibrations to clear codes.
So since you have it could you tell me if you know how effective it is for TPMS and Key fob related jobs?
It's an awesome tool to have Bruce!
Did you buy the MS906BT on Amazon and are they software upgradable?
Will this scanner release electric brake caliper pistons.
You a boss , i just bought one today and im hooked on this videos . Thank you for taking time to make videos for people that are new to this .
Thank you I appreciate that!
And I appreciate you for taking the time to watch!
Well I can concur with all of the above statements. Battery does seem to drain fairly quickly. So far tho its a great tool with tons of oem access.
@@MasterTechLou Hey I'm DIY mechanic looking to get scan tool on the budget. I will be buying Coparts flood, mechanical, theft loss type of cars. What scan tool would you recommend this or CG Sulit 680 pro?
@@thinkaboutit78 actually im about to review the xtool A30M which is almost identical but a 1/4 of the price.
You so hit the nail on the head with this video. I was looking thru the GM service manuals and saw, as you said, very few if any switches
or other user electrical controls communicated directly with an end item. So, it seems that the scanner helps to see that the "code" running inside a control unit is reacting to user inputs...or not in order to command the end item. Thanks again awesome job.
Nice to view a video which the guy actually knows details of what he is teaching ! Thnx.
Hey man I really appreciate that!

Thanks Lou!
Thank you!
And best of luck, I hear you on the blessing and cursed part haha
Sweet! I purchased the MK808Z-BT. I was about to replace the entire ABS unit, but the scanner removed all the air that was in the unit. All good, that's really some basic stuff. Your video shows some really good stuff. Thanks!
Thank you I appreciate that!

At first i was mad that this was clickbait. But then I was very happy it made me click because what you are saying is very valuable.
Sorry , I HAD to clickbait to teach

Awesome video. Don't be a parts changer. Learning the fundamentals is a must.
And the 506 battery altenator tester within 10 min I new the new altenator was faulty swapped it out all codes went away and all systems started working again (Lane keep assist , adaptive cruise, lane depart, ect)
The reason I share this is I took the care to autozone advanced O'Reilly and all three said everthing was good.

Whole assembly $1500,
Fixing it for no money by clearance the new brushes and brush housing so the spring could keep the brush in contact with the terminal ring - Priceless!
man that is awesome! I appreciate the nice comments as well.
Very helpful in becoming a tech and leaving the parts charger mentality.
Glad to hear! Yes there are right ways and wrong ways. I prefer taking the extra time and effort to do it once the right way. I appreciate you!
Thinking of buying one of these £800 down from £1600
Mainly I like the idea of being able to do my own servicing, battery changes and brake changes and resetting the service lights/bms etc without needing to go to the shop.
The live data/data logging function is something I’m also very interested in given I’ve spent 3 years doing a motorsport engineering degree with data acquisition and analysis being a major part
50% off?! Even if you dont like it you can probably sell it off ! Data logging is nice but is most handy with intermittent issues.
Take a look at the autel MP808. It does a lot and it has full bi directional control, at a reasonable price.
Reading the codes just gives us a clue of where to start. Then the work begins. It's all about testing and troubleshooting. That takes study, skill, and being too stupid to quit. 😉
Thank you! Excellent video. Amazing the way you teach. New to the car industry and have learn that every car and every day it's a new challenge.
Thank you I appreciate the nice comments!
the challenges will never stop! I promise you that. Again I appreciate the nice comments, it means a lot. I wish you the best. Lou Palomino
keep up the work brother....this is your brother from another mother down in Savannah Ga
10% isn't useless I mean a ratchet seems like less but if you only had the socket it's pretty important
Love to see more videos utilizing the MS906BT
Verbiage with tools is imperative these days. The 906 is a diagnostic tool, a scanner just scans and reads codes. Too many people think a $99 scanner does enough, when actually it does nothing to diagnose vehicles.
💯
The Lin bus also operated the mirrors and door locks as it turned out
By the way, thank you very much for one of the best help videos ive seen so far. Autel should make you a rep or at least send you some compensation!!!
Ha autel told me “we are not looking for content creators at this time” thank you for the nice comments
Lou:
Great video knowledge is power.
Parts changers (or big parts store employees) won't understand the humor behind this😂
Loving your videos.
Well deserved like! Thanks for bringing this lud into the 21st century.
I just found this exact one on Walmart (walmart sold, not 3rd party) for $1075. Can’t wait to use it.
Wow now that is a deal for sure!
It is sold on the shoulder as I have loved it very much for my works that brother
I just purchased that Autel unit, haven't received it yet, saw your video, and was like..."AWWW F@#$ !!!". Thanks for the info, and actual good things to say about the unit.
I dont have many issued to say except ive almost had it a year now and the battery seems to be weak already and I barely use the scanner.
Thanks bro, I only learned by mistakes to just ordered a similar device thanks for the advice in using it
IT was clickbait but we'll worth it That is a very nice scanner.Mechanics do tend to curse a lot.And we"re not all stupid we"re mentally challenged Thanks for the demo
Working on my cursing. Especially for my stand up comedy. Ill edit the curses, and it takes clickbait to be able to get my point across. To much clickbait out there with no message. I aim to teach and educate. Glad you enjoyed!
Autel its super nice scanner, Same Snap On , the main deal its you have to know to to used and read scanner, n Thank you
Thanks Lou!
UR Subscribed!
Yep. Can longer afford to be a parts changer (like Scanner Danner sez)!
You too are da' man!
Hey Lou, Thank you for a great video, now I understand more about scanners. I really appreciated.
Glad to help!
Thank you Lou!
Much appreciate it!
The only thing bad about the Autel is the yearly subscription.
This stuff is good! Thanks for bringing this topic and showing actual the value of a high quality scanner. A bit dissapointed to see you in a Dodge with this scanner :)
haha, The van does me well. function over form. for now. :)
Perfect explanation Thumbs up
Good info. I’m looking into buying an Autel. I’m going back and forth on the MS and the Mk 906
Did you get the mk906 thays supposed to be the updated version of Ms906 and ms906BT
@@mplscarsales6652 no not yet. Have to wait on it. I ended up buying the 608BT because I needed a battery tester for work. We do alot of 6volts
One thing I hate about Autel. Go into engine ECU and live data. you wont get the same options on all engines. I wish you got the same list and if say a sensor was not available it just say n/a. So I can find crankshaft sensor without having to search loads of different pages.
I agree. Sometimes it shows too many sensors or not enough based on the actual car.
@@jamesbarratt593 good question. Should be in ME module live data for crank sensor 🤷🏼♂️
@@jamesbarratt593 yeah topology is only good in oem info sadly
Is Autel the top of the line brand when it comes to multi manufacturer auto diagnostics and programming? What is the best out there if money isn't an factor.
There is no top of the line brand as everyone has their setbacks. Autologic and some others are very competitive. Shops always ending up needing 2-3 different scanners as no one scanner can do everything you need.
The scanner is great for getting some direction.
Thanks for the video, it help me out in purchasing the 906ts
I bought the same tool in aus and it was a great tool to look at but it was terrible for my old vehicles which could not even auto vin 1800 brick but a brick would be more functional than the MS 906BT 0 after sale or a response contact manufacturer via tool
Free I'd say keep it with the Holden vy and falcon incurring more faults and dtc engine abs and srs on cleared 0 dtc
These folk given the tool to promote.
Toolpro 30 tool more functional
Topdon phoenix elite my hope
@@MasterTechLou The title of your video threw me. I will check your videos.
@@Boyo1956 unfortunately had to use clickbait to sneak in my information and experience. No one comes to UA-cam to learn, they come to just do.
@@MasterTechLou I want to learn.
Hey Lou awesome video have you used the scanner for lane control or back up sensor issues? Love to see some diag on some harder issues to see how the scanner can help out
I thinks it is little expesive, the mk808bt pro is much better:
ua-cam.com/video/ja7VxHB4H8k/v-deo.html
although an older video, its a darn good one.. im actually looking into an autel scanner and this model one too. what you explained here Lou is dead on.. if you know how to use your equipment, life is easier haha
yeah these scanners get updated and outdated as fast as phones these days
@@MasterTechLou thats no joke!!
Good diagnostic tools...I buy a a30m p85 is it good for a beginner?
Great video and advice. You covered all important aspects of the tool. thanks
Thanks I appreciate that!
You are a gifted teacher, thanks!
Thank you I appreciate that!
its useless if you dont know how to use it,,but if you do,,they marvelous,,,
Please continue to show how to operate this scanner, I am learning how to use it
What car are you working on and issue?
That will help me understand what can help you.
@@MasterTechLou I have to change a electric rack and pinion on 2011 Ford Fusion will the 906ts help in the process
Thank you very much buddy great job you’re the man I’m looking to buy one of those scanners hotel but I don’t have too much money I want to stay under $1000 I don’t know how much is that one you’re showing how much do you pay for the one the one who shown on the video?God bless you thanks again
This one from authorized seller is about 1800$
You have to buy from authorized seller or else autel will not help with support.
I had a problem with my Aircon there were codes. But both launch pointed the problem to the control panel of the Aircon. But it wasn't. It was the actuators problems
Great video. I love customers who think scanning a fault code is a diagnosis.
@@kyesniper yup I use top brand everything i must know what I’m talking about lol
Keep on doing this your videos helps a lot 💯👍🏾
Thank you I appreciate that so
Much!
The waveform scope on the autel is way better than a Pico scope and laptop software. The autel is so intuitive and easy to use. Pico feels like windows XP.
I have yet to venture into scopeville but we do now have a pico in the shop ill be messing with
Yes if you dont know what you are doing and you try coding be carefull you could mess up badly i dont know if that scanner dose but create a backup of the coding before you mess with it also those scanners are not cheap they better have a backup option hate me now thank me later
You are correct! I usually screenshot the coding if im ever having to manually code something.
But yeah, these are great my maxitpms ts608 is amazing! lol. What I hate, nowadays, is a customer insisting it's bla bla bla because "autozones scanner said so",
Dude, story of my life!
And then, what the autozone employee “diagnosed”…… 🤭 ❤️
I was an mechanic for 15 years before getting into trucking back in 2004. I still from time to time work on my own vehicle and help others with theirs. Due to technology getting to where it's at even in used vehicles, I have been now looking to getting a scan tool. I really like what I've seen with the Autel scanners and would like to get one with bidirectional capability but being I no longer work in automotive on a dally basis see it feasible to purchase something like you have which now is over $1200. Was wondering if you could recommend something or if that's the minimum for bidirectional
Hello, so the mk808 is a lot more reasonable and is still bidirectional, also I hear the new icarsoft 3.0
Are bidirectional.

So the MS models
Will do fine
