You say this doesnt have gearbox match, is this the same programe as what is called transmission re learning or is re match something different ? So if different does this tool have re learn sequencing for at least Multi mode type transmissions on Toyota Yaris? and other models in europe thanks
Was told I needed a $500 Kia intake plus labor. Tool showed flaps stuck. Intake valve cleaner in an upstream vacuum hose fixed it. Tool paid for itself on ONE job.
I know this is a little late, but maybe it can help someone. If the car supports it (older cars, like my 22 year old Jeep doesn't), you can use just about any cheap scanner to "Check Readiness". That option tells you if the codes have been cleared by showing if the readiness monitors have been set. If they aren't, then either the battery was changed, dead, or the terminals were taken off for some reason (can reset the codes), or that the codes have been cleared. If it shows all of the monitors as set, check to make sure the EVAP is set, too. The EVAP takes the longest to set in a drive cycle. If that isn't set, then the codes were cleared recently.
@@WastedTalent- Yeah, but that’s not really a catchall gotcha. I’m doing repairs/maintenance on a car to sell and usually dc the battery while working.
Thank you. Since I bought a 2007 Sienna I've watched a lot of videos. You are one of the few who actually do things right, explain everything and produce the most professional videos. I looked up the Xtool D7 scanner and book marked it. On a side note. Just bought a 2011 Challenger with the V6. I few things I need to take care of on that. I was sitting at the dealer and they gave me the speech and prices on extended warranty. $2000 for 30,000 miles. My answer was. For that kind of money I can buy a really good scanner and do the work myself. Looks like this will do the trick. The world needs more guys like you.
DIYer here. I bought a lexus with a known bad transmission P0761. The deeper I get the more I need a proper scan tool. Now I see that I have to be able to activate individual valve body solenoids. Way cheaper than taking apart the valve body again. Just bought one. Subscribed. Thanks.
My wife is going to hate this. I have absolutely Zero need for this tool. I stopped working on engines years ago. But I NEED to buy this. What a great review. Thanks.
feels the same but after working on a Renault master van III for days and no solution, i need this for the abs. Hopefully my wife will not ask about the price....😄
Actually bought this and had it shipped same day because of this review, it works perfect so far. I'll be taking it to the car auction to really test it out later today!
I bought the Xtool D7 after watching your video. I have found that this scan tool seems to charge while it is connected to my 2019 Highlander. Thank you for your evaluation of this product. I love it. God bless!
My lucky day. First time I’ve seen your channel. 7 minutes in I’ve subscribed. I have two $100 and one $180 dollar scanners. A month ago Scotty was raving about a $5400 scanner and I was seriously considering purchase. Thankfully I didn’t. Your communication, demeanor, production quality, vocational experience and status drew me in and the scanner review hooked me. I’m sold. I’m gonna buy. Thanks so mush. ( I’m a do it yourself- er.
Thank you for watching and subscribing! Before you buy contact them and ask all questions you need about it to make sure this is the last scan tool you buy
I am a DIY . If you are using it mainly on a few vehicles , make sure those are covered . Depending how deep you want to go , ask which tests are covered on each vehicle . I have read comments that people complain that a $ 100 to $ 200 scan tool can't do EVERY test on EVERY vehicle - including some obscure models . What do they expect for that money ?
@@billsmith2212 Hi, is it possible to check if this tool will relearn multimode type auto transmissions on many cars here in the UK like mine a 2013 Toyota Aygo as when you look at buying these tools its hard to know what they briefly mean? thanks
Bidirectional control is very important and helpful if you are doing in depth DIY. It eliminates a ton of diagnostics so you can focus on inputs. Also being able to see streaming data. It is helpful to look at what is happening while the car is fine, say, how the O2 sensors are running. Then you have a baseline and can tell if something is wrong when the day comes.
As for your complaint about having to disconnect the dongle in order to store in the case, I always modify every tool I acquire, especially storage boxes, so I’ll probably be modifying the case to quickly store the entire cable assembly. I’ll also store the cable outside the box in the beginning by hanging it up to hopefully remove all the bends so it coils nicer. Either that or very gentle hot air gun to coax it out straight.
Find a container you can use just for the cable and silicone seal it to the original case - then you will never need to disconnect the 2 pieces. This could be a tupperware or whatever....
Thank you! Your video was not a waste of time. It was nice to listen to someone that had experience and didn't pretend or comment on things they clearly didn't understand. Very comprehensive review. Great channel!
Thanks for taking the time to out this video together I missed the holiday sales but have decided to buy this unit based in your recommendation. I don't own a Toyota but your content is still great to watch. Stay well and God Bless.
SUCCESS! - I connected the D7 to the 2014 RAV4 ( ~ 160K miles) OBD port and cleared the TCM transmission compensation memory. Very easy, very fast. I executed the procedure 3 times, just to be safe and be sure the memory is empty. Then went for a drive. The transmission now shifts very smoothly --- no more stutter/jolt during the 2nd -> 3rd shift. Money well spent --- highly recommend the XTOOL D7. NOTE: the stutter/jolt issue started shortly after I changed the transmission fluid --- full drain, drop oil pan, change filter, then refill. A week or so and few hundred miles after, the stutter/jolt began. The stutter/jolt happens when the engine revs under 2.5K RPM during the 2/3 shift. If engine revs higher, closer to 3K RPM or above, it was OK. But now, everything is OK --- no stutter/jolt during2/3 shift at any RPM.
I purchased a $200 scan tool about 3 months ago, and I finally had a need to use it. Unfortunately, it sits between the tool reviewed here and the basic cheap hand-held tools. The biggest drawback to mine is that it doesn't check some of the emissions equipment like the purge valve. This one definitely has my attention. Thank you for posting the review.
I really appreciate how you went through the significant details, the ones I was most interested in learning more about. I got the information I was looking for. It sounds like we think a lot alike when it comes to value/skill level. Thank you for the time and effort you put into these, all have been nicely done!
Interesting and timely review. IMO the average DIY person who really wants to fix the vehicle needs the bi-directional control capability to do an adequate diagnosis of even basic systems. You've got more and more complexity in vehicle systems - yeah you can look at codes and live data but that's still half the tool needed. As you look at individual modules you need a way to verify operation or as example the famous evap leak detected codes a way to isolate the purge and pressure sides of the system. Its about time that big cost step for a bi-directional tool was reduced and I hope market competition will continue to drive it down.
The D7 is now retailing at a price on Amazon that's impossible to ignore. The claims being made for this System are basically, "No bluff we can't call" plus Customer Service which is recieving rave reviews.
@Tom Smith I need a scanner that can do the adaptive shift reset on the tcm on a gm I always need something more then love data or code reading. It’s always something I have to bring the vehicle somewhere before I can continue doing whatever I’m doing
One of the better reviews of higher end scanners. I love the narration while the scan tool screen in showing. Great job and I don't even need one . . . yet
If you look to scotty kilmer for information and reviews than your looking in the wrong place there bud. That guy is only for views typical youtube dude.. like wranglestar. They spend more effort in trying to bait people into their videos than teach any valuable info in their content.. and most of the time its only their opinion and not fact.. look at scannerdanner or ford tech makuloco or south main auto.. theres a lot more worthy channels that will teach you things rather than bitch about nonsense or tell you they dont like a certain oil because its got more cleaning agents in it.. watch wes work is a goodn for diesels or bigger equipt thats got the basics included in his repairs. But with those channels you can look at their suggested channels and pretty much get all useful shit.. cris fix and scotty.. yea if you wanna change a tire or clean headlights.. lol.. gimme a break.. lol
You got subscription with this video! I saw that even you were blown away with this scan tool! Well so am I! And yes, I ordered one. Mainly because I'm tired up the constant update chip costs from you know who .. this is even better than theirs! I had that We That's Fun .. moment! Thank you for saving me so much time and money!
Brother, I saw your video this morning. I actually thought that I was subscribed, but when I went to give the thumbs up. I saw that I wasn't, so now I am also I ordered a d7. Very concise, very informative. Thank you. I'm a diy Shade tree mechanic. With thirty plus years, of car tinkering experience. I have had a lot of cars in my youth with no money to pay mechanics, so there you go. So much so that my son has become a mechanic. Again, thank you for the video.
Great Video! I am a DIYer and have been in the market for a bidirectional scan tool. I've looked at most of the top brands, but haven't decided on one yet. I like what this can do and the price is in my range.
I wi say its refreshing to listen to someone get to the point and not ramble on forever. I swear some of these UA-cam must get paid by the minute. I'm impressed by how much this Scan to will do and how he went thru everything showing us. Can't think of anyone else n UA-cam that has been this thorough.
Just bought this one. Haven't used it yet but I saw it on another shop that reviewed it and knew it was what I wanted. Plus, I hit it right on Amazon and caught a sale, got it for 387.00. Thanks for the great review.
That’s for the vid! Sold me on the Xtool D7 just purchased one using your link on amazon plus the 10%code and an amazon clip coupon for an additional 20% off total savings was $137.70 USD!
I’m mid way DIYer. Studied mechanics, but not a professional one. Worked on my cars all the time, unless stuck on something beyond my ability to diagnose, or repair it. Currently my Toyota SUV refused to start. Took me a week to check every possible thing without success. I called a so call mechanic, he came and did a Mickey Mouse scan and told me to tow the car to his shop and crank shaft/camshaft are not working. After I towed, then he said they’re working but ECU is not working. As I speak the vehicle is been in his shop for 5 days without being repaired. Moral of story, if I had this scan tool, I would’ve diagnosed it properly at home without towing expenses & god knows how much he asking for . Buying tools will save you a lot down the road. You can also help your friends, neighbors in that sense. Great Video ❤
I have spent almost $200 on three useless scan tools, and another 80 on one that worked finally, but only on the current car I own. 5 or 6 hundred (Au) for This sort of a tool is simply amazing, and if you bought it without the wastage and frustration of previous tools it works out very reasonably. If I was young and starting out this would be almost as important as getting your first tools, like a socket set!
Why do you expect cheap "scan tools" to do much. Most of them are just code readers. Almost all of the ones used in YT videos are linked to databases for information on cars and need a subscription fee to get the most out of them, then you need to pay more for the ones that have bi-directional controls. Stop being such a cheapskate.
@@Cheepchipsable What are you talking about? All the OP and I am saying is that, if we were young, we would have bought this scan tool. That doesn't mean this one existed then and scan tools similar to this one were much more expensive than they are now. Plus when I am in college or school preparing to go to college, I don't have an extra $500 to just dump into a scan tool that I will likely use it once or twice in 5 years. In fact, I only used a scan tool once in my 2012 since I bought it to program an extra set of keys and customize some settings like changing the volume of the lock and unlock beeps.
@@Cheepchipsables I would suggest assuming people are cheapskates for attempting to buy as frugally as possible, especially when you have no idea of their circumstances, is... unwise.
Thxs for keeping us up on these diag scanners. Here's what I came across my Cando C-Pro when it comes to updating. After hours of trying to update, turns out that most of these scan tools will only do the updates when down-loading at 2.5GHz speed. Currently many of us can only get 5GHz speed and it's too fast to download updates, I was able to do my updates through my phone HOT SPOT / TEATHERING and hook up my USB to scan tool to phone. Just like magic it was all updated, just FYI in the event some of you guys come across an updating issue. I went months trying to figure this out and even mailed in to get it updated.
Thank you so much for your recommendation! I now have an Xtool D8 and OMG it is just unbelievable! I also am a car nut in some respect for I have five cars to care for in the family group. Love the Xtool and your video😇.
Hi AMD, thanks for the info and opinions. The price of $479.00 could be the cost of one repair and considering all the other abilities, especially re-programming I think the price is reasonable.
Wow impressive AMD, thanks for sharing your reviews on this scan tool especially on pointing out the positive and negative side effects on using this tool. As a DIY viewer, I think it’s nice to have this kind of scan tool in hand. More power. God bless.
Hello AMD, thank you for this review of the scan tool. Your reviews are very well presented. I appreciate the time you take to explain how things work and why to do certain things. Your videos are very high quality as well as your explanations. All the best to you!
These are great if you need to read codes, only get freeze frame data if you have a code. The live data a few things, N/A. EGR ERR, fuel bank 2, fuel pressure, etc. Great if you want fault codes, freeze frame data! Have MotorPower, ancel. Thank you another great video!!!! Would love to see scanners that have more info in live stream data. These helped me out a lot with a misfire. Fuel Trims, oxygen sensors, MAF, MAP, etc! You are awesome! Love your videos
I don’t really know anything about automotive repair but your enthusiasm has me wanting this. Hahaha at 72 I doubt that I really need it but I’m tempted!
Great evaluation of this tool. Went to their web site. They've got specs on every on of their tools posted. Once I figure out which model is best for me, this will be my next scanner choice.
As an owner of an independent auto repair shop, I can say I am always looking for low cost solutions for diagnostics. This XTool device looks pretty impressive. However for the last 2 years I have been doing the majority of my diagnostics with the Harbor Freight Zurich Pro scan tool. Harbor Freight? Yes! This is made by Autel and I there is very little I cannot do with this tool. The battery life is fantastic - I can literally use the device for 4-5 hours with no issues. Plus the OBD adapter is Bluetooth wireless. This is awesome as I can monitor data from the other side of the shop while I am doing something else - like billing out an invoice! I have access to OEM diagnostics for Ford, GM, Chrysler, Toyota and Honda but I still use my Zurich as my go to device. I would love to see a head to head comparison between the Xtool and the Zurich Pro. One thing you don't mention is reflashing. There is no possibility to reflash with these tools. The OEM tools will always be the best for this, whether it's Ford IDS, GM TechConnect, Chrysler WiTech, Toyota Techstream, etc. If someone replaces let's say a BCM, then it's off to the dealer to get programmed. I would suggest perhaps doing a video on J2534 tools and the various passthrough programming. You can buy 2 day TIS subscriptions to handle this if you have a compatible pass through tool. Believe it or not I have used my factory GM MDI2 as a J2534 device to program a Honda! I think covering programming and reflashing is a must for the serious DIYer. Thanks for the great videos! Love learning from other techs. :)
Yes I also use the Zurich Pro. It is an amazing scanner for the price. It can hang with scanners way above it's price range (800-1000) dollars. My only real gripe is the 1 year software update price is a bit steep at 500 dollars, but worth it in my opinion if you need the newest model year data. And compared to the update prices for some of your other tools, 500 dollars is not that much money really.
@@jtjones4727 I agree. The price for the update is rather steep. But you can still keep using the tool without updating. I won't update until I absolutely have to. At that point it might be cheaper or just slightly more to just buy the next generation of tool. My investment in the Z-Pro tool has paid for itself many times over.
I bought one of these about 6 months ago based on this video and your reco. Very happy so far. helped me get through ABS Brake system on my 2010 prius and multiple other problems n kids and friends cars. I have not done one of the three free upgrades yet as I haven't found anything that it couldn't handle with current software. There are some minor things I have found it missing but not much. I have 3 or 4 other scan tools in the $150 to $250 price range but they really don't do much more than the $35 dollar ones. I consider this my 1st Pro series scan tool (maybe semi pro but since I have never used a "Pro" one I guess I wouldn't know.
So after watching this video and some independent research myself afterwards I have purchased the scan tool . As a mechanic myself but working for a workshop , my at home diagnostics is very limited and have been thinking for a while to do something about that , not really knowing which way to go with a strict budget but thanks to this video I’ve made my decision.
I am curious as well. Considering opening a mobile diagnostic business, to scan, diagnostic services, relearn procedures for tcm, ecu, and contract out to local shops who do repairs and aren't equipped to reprogram, or are happy with their established services and do not need to take on that task. In last 2 years I used a mobile company twice for 20 minutes of relearn tcm at 150$-200$ each time
I have a couple of friends that are techs like you and I follow a couple on YT, like SouthMainAuto, and through that and my experience, all these features do not apply to all vehicles ... especially older ones. The other thing is that when getting down to the repair, it is almost imperative that you have a subscription that includes wiring tracing and the like. This does sound like it may be a really worthwhile investment. Real good explanation and video. Thanks
Thanks for the intro of the scan tool. I expect that 1 year later the price has gone thru the roof already - or else it's not available anymore - I'll go check after watching. EDIT: UNFORTUNATELY the 7% negative comments on amxn puts me off. Sounds like real people with real experience giving a really bad review. Not accurate, no support, doesn't work on their car, doesn't have a PIN, doesn't even provide basic functions, can't return it because of amxn policies, etc. etc. etc. 7% negative comments is high if you want to buy a product from overseas. That's rolling the dice with such a lot of money. Too bad.
This helps me - I'm old and on SS and can't afford to pi$$ money away. You did my homework for me and I appreciate your perspective. I'm surprised more people haven't responded to your comment. (BUT I DID!)
That other plug with the round pins on it is the European standard one, the CEE 7/16 or "type C" plug. Used all over Europe, former Soviet Union and west Africa (though only for electric shavers in the UK and Ireland; for everything in continental Europe)
Hey, I would recommend testing an OBDstar as well, as that is their main competitor. There are also a lot of specific scan tools that are for J2534 passthrough only, meant for use with factory diagnostic. You can rent TIS and use a Chipsoft MID/PRO, or a CanTieCar. These are all Russian/Chinese made and very cheap, and give you the full functionality of the factory tool once you rent it for a few days! All of these tools have bidirectional control!
I also found this xtool d7 to be worth a try. I was very impressed with its capabilities and performance until I tried to contact customer service after it was unable communicate with any modules on a MBZ E320 2003. I got no response . Their customer service is non existent.
Don't look a gift horse in the face type saying lol. Don't know why they wouldn't stand proudly behind what appears to be a great product. I'm interested in it for sure, the relearn capability, and bidirectional actuation are elite functions that can help with shaving so much time off task completion. Sounds like they could revamp their power supply to maximize performance, use time, and dominate their industry. Design an attachment to test commonly used 4,5, and other prong relays would offer usability testing for each individual component too. Assuming it couldn't connect with a certain vehicle. Thanks for this post, first of your videos I seen, definitely following!!👍👍 great work 👏
Dude they constantly update and are typically very responsive. A Benz is a POS that’s hard to get most scanners to work with. Like most German hunk of junk “luxury cars”….
ordered the d8 yesterday and got it today just did the charging and updates cant wait to use it bought it after watching this video friday night

I found your channel because I'm a Toyota guy and find your videos extremely useful. Going to buy the xtool based on your recommendation. Thanks for all the great videos you provide.
Hi I'm a pensioner (61) with a small budget. I qualified as a diesel mechanic in the eighties and worked mostly on mobile mining equipment like loaders and hydraulic drill rigs. I supplement my income by doing car repairs at home but I really need a good inexpensive scanner for the nightmares I'm sometimes confronted with. I'm seriously thinking about getting this one. In our currency it's 13 000 Rand (ZAR) , a bit steep for me but about 30 to 60 percent cheaper than the well known brands. Thanks for the informative review , God bless and good luck.
The all keys lost function is probably the function that the criminals use when stealing a car. They can simply plug a scantool in the OBD port, create a new key and presto your car is gone. The factory alarm is disabled in seconds as well for most brands. An OBD lock is a good investment for any car these days.
My Bro gave a Ford edge to his ex but lost the key so he call a guy that drove 30min to the house to program a key and the cost was $800. Yeah I did get a Lil hostile however my friends were happy ... man I can knock couple C notes off and make an honest side job installing sensors and reprogram it will pay for itself, then some on 2 jobs. Won't havta shop at these cheap clothing stores anymore 😆
Great video. I was looking to purchase a new scan tool and am glad I happened along your video. This is much more affordable than the others I was looking at. I will give this one a try based on your recommendation.
AMD, Thank you for the info on this. The cost of the tool can easily be saved with the capability it offers. Just what I have been looking for. Have a great day!
Thanks for this great informative video. I don't do much diagnostic anymore but there are many things here that could be beneficial to me. I checked n amazon and they have the xtool 8 for around $700. And there's a pro model for around $1500.
This is awesome. My Nephew lost one of my fey fobs and I went through the entire scenario you described, trying to prevent theft from the lost fob, having to reprogram the remaining fob and lock out the other, etc. Locksmith bill wasnt cheap.
Reduced from 6 to 4 our Lexuses and Toyotas.Never visited stealership or repair shop.I change and balance my tires, cut rotors, do diagnostic and repairs myself. My DIY scan tool is one old laptop w/ Window7 in my garage and $50 hacked but powerfull Techstream mini-VCI combination.
Thanks for making this brilliant review! I spent months researching scan tools. All of them have evasive descriptions with claims of being able to read and erase codes, but none of them tell us the full list of codes they can deal with. They all say "read and erase codes". They list a few things they can do and finish with terms like "and more". I've checked dozens upon dozens of scan tools. Whether they cost $50 or $2000, all of them make the same claims. That's one reason why I've never bought one.
Well done!! Great video. I’m from Germany 🇩🇪 naturally I stick with a German car, ARL Bora 4motion Variant, 420k km. I want to see how long I can keep it running. Just bought my dad an old Rav4 with 300k had to replace the valve gasket. I’m absolutely amazed about the camshafts, they look like brand new. Runs like a clock and shifts like a dream. Just wanted to say. Them Toyotas are generally overlooked. I’ll get one nex time. Hopefully in the far future.
I really like this unit...One area the D7 is lacking; it needs to be able to do more with the TPMS for Toyota/Lexus. If I need to replace a tpms sensor in my ES300h, I still have to bring it the dealer since it doesn't have the ability to register the new sensor ID code. There are less expensive devices that can do this task.
Yeah I read another review talking about the D7 is lacking in the TPMS identifying which sensor is bad. Basically XTOOL told the guy to take it to the dealer so they can pin point which sensor is bad. Not much help.
I bought the eggs to a D7 a year ago because of this video I understand so much more about OBD Diagnostics because of this tool that wire is the only drawback the d8 Bluetooth without the wire that's my next move is to get rid of that wire thanks bro for the good information
If key programming works, then Autel money it’s worth around $3000 USD. If it doesn’t work, then it’s still amazing the amount you can do. ESPECIALLY output controls for body functions! Would be kinda funny to see that thing hooked up to my 02 Tacoma 😂
Really not a bad price! Most of my vehicles were always maintained, 2014 sentra cvts are garbage, and I don't own destroying that transmission, Armada I got at 1/2 Bluebook value and 5 codes 😆, did several relearn procedures after repairs, and this tool would've been a dream!!
Thank you for making this video, just what i have been looking for to add to my tool box for a fair price with this capability with bi directional controls. will also be using it at the shop. Been looking for a while. A lot of scan tools are over priced.
i bought the harbor freight item 60794. it was $79,99 and has been able to do everything i need. My stepson worked at Orielly and he said my scan tool was better than the one at work. It has done everything i needed, it acc0uratly told me i need an ignition module on my highlander, a speed sensor on my qx60, and bad spark plug on my Silverado. I wish the software updates were available but they were never created, otherwise i have no complaints.
Thank you so much for this video. I'm Diy'er, been looking at Autel scan tools, BUT IM SOLD ON THIS SCAN TOOL NOW!!! $470.00 IS IN EXPENSIVE, compared to$ 1,000 to $5,000 Autel. And I'm subbed to your channel. We have a 2000 Toyota Sienna. Again, thank you , and God bless you too, 🙏✝️👍🇺🇸😇
Sometimes this truly is a myth. There are people with more problems for instance with a J car than a 4 car in some instances or vice versa. What get when purchasing a Toyota vs some other brands is the fact u know, even if the workers are sub par on a certain line, they've done a better job than the competitors with qc. Thats time an money, seemingly wasted, esp when stuff is going good.
Impressive. I paid more than the price you mentioned for a scan tool years ago that just outputs PID codes, which the user had to look up. Not much better than reading the check-engine light flashes - in the late 1980 vehicles. 😀 Thanks for showing this tool. I mostly use the smart phone scanner app. now. (Continuous convenient “compact” device monitoring). (Need to watch the coolant temp. - The cooling fan control is flaking out (a 2008 vehicle)… (Thank goodness the fan comes on high with the air-conditioning compressor activation).
I bought this scan tool through your link. Thanks very much it has been very useful. There are still some reset functions that i can't access on some cars so still need an official dealer for that. But overall its great
I have a Matco code reader, an Actron code reader and a little more, and a Matco MaxMe diagnostic tool. This XTool looks GREAT! It obviously looks like it will do much more than the MaxMe. The two code readers I have were used for monitor checks and any pending, current or history codes back when I was smog testing our fleet vehicles. That worked out great back then. This machine shows how far these Android Diagnostic Tools have come. Also it's much less expensive than Snap On, Matco, Mac, Autel, Bosch and others. What kind of customer service do they have if there's a problem with the tester? What kind of warranty do they have for the tester? With yearly updates at $99.00 after the three year free updates, THAT'S CHEAP! Hopefully that covers Domestic, Asian and European. TPMS has reset only, and you need a tester like Bartec to test the sensors.
Hey I read your comment and was thinking maybe you could help me out…. I bought the xtool D7 and it won’t read my 2001 Dodge Durango…do you know why that could be?
Thanks for the video Andy. Been looking for a good scan tool and this one really impressed me so I ordered one. It will actually come in really handy as I’m looking at a second vehicle and will help out tremendously deciding on a used car!
Hey Car Care, I am retired, my money went for this company but the Anyscan A30M which has a 2 year warranty and lifetime updates. I believe it can do most of what the D7 can but affordable just over 200 dollars. No it cant do Keys but not interested in that. Mine was the BiDirectional and the TPMS I was able to see the manufacture and the ID and tire pressure too it even tells you what wheel the id number is at. It does have a learn function which I did not use. All in all a fantastic tool, I did not want to spend 4-500 dollars due to my age and use it will give me. Just noticed you already have the links.
Thanks for the honest review Andy! I appreciate the pros and cons you give the conversation. What I would like to do is to one day be able to afford a couple of different bidirectional scantools because I hate to put all my eggs in one basket.

I've been thinking about buying a diagnostic tool and programmer, this has given me more knowledge. Thanks
You say this doesnt have gearbox match, is this the same programe as what is called transmission re learning or is re match something different ? So if different does this tool have re learn sequencing for at least Multi mode type transmissions on Toyota Yaris? and other models in europe thanks
Does it do reprogramming?
@@calholli that’s not a big directional scanner tho … just a code reader
Was told I needed a $500 Kia intake plus labor. Tool showed flaps stuck. Intake valve cleaner in an upstream vacuum hose fixed it. Tool paid for itself on ONE job.
Can you do a video on how you would use this scan tool on a used car before purchase? Upvote this if you want this video made.
He said you could check cylinder compression which is really cool
@@WastedTalent- Yeah, but that’s not really a catchall gotcha. I’m doing repairs/maintenance on a car to sell and usually dc the battery while working.
Yeah. Scan it.
Kind of worthless, unless your a knowledgeable technician, the scan tool information will be mostly meaningless to you.
This has to be the best channel on UA-cam for anyone that wants to know about their car. This is especially true for Toyota guys like myself
ANCEL 4700 tools are pretty good
And now dodge locked pulling codes from obd2 on their newer vehicles unless you're a certified mechanic...
DIYer here. I bought a lexus with a known bad transmission P0761. The deeper I get the more I need a proper scan tool. Now I see that I have to be able to activate individual valve body solenoids. Way cheaper than taking apart the valve body again.
Just bought one.

This is my first time seeing AMD smiling from ear to ear like a kid in a candy store and super happy.
Actually bought this and had it shipped same day because of this review, it works perfect so far. I'll be taking it to the car auction to really test it out later today!
As an advanced DIY for 52 years, this will be my first bi-directional scan tool. Thanks AMD for this review.
I bought the Xtool D7 after watching your video. I have found that this scan tool seems to charge while it is connected to my 2019 Highlander. Thank you for your evaluation of this product. I love it. God bless!
How much?

Just what I have been looking for.... This is the answer to most or ALL of my DIY projects and there have been MANY. Thanks a LOT.
I JUST ordered it... now I'll watch the rest of this great video. FYI--- you had me @A/F ratio and TRUE milage.
Thanks for taking the time to out this video together
I missed the holiday sales but have decided to buy this unit based in your recommendation.

But with those channels you can look at their suggested channels and pretty much get all useful shit.. cris fix and scotty.. yea if you wanna change a tire or clean headlights.. lol.. gimme a break.. lol

Great video and clarity is excellent. The price is good for DIY users. I love your analogy and insight. Many thanks for the wonderful video 👍
Very true. Especially since some new cars you need an advance level of scan tool to do something like brake bleeding and programming a new key fob.

I love your videos. So educational straight to the point, no anoying music and you really know what you are talking about. Thank you very much.
What's the cost of it?
@@J__7777 The Zurich Pro is $899, nearly twice the cost of this unit.
Just bought this tool! Thank you! Not too pricey. DIY. Don't have to pay $190 for diagnostic fee. Which is just ridiculous.
Are you happy with the item after using it for a few months please let us know

I am curious as well. Considering opening a mobile diagnostic business, to scan, diagnostic services, relearn procedures for tcm, ecu, and contract out to local shops who do repairs and aren't equipped to reprogram, or are happy with their established services and do not need to take on that task. In last 2 years I used a mobile company twice for 20 minutes of relearn tcm at 150$-200$ each time
Please update us with oros and cons... thx...
There are sure a lot of features on that scan tool! If I ever get a new one, that looks great for that price!
Thank you thank you, for a honest review... love the end where you said what you didn't like..
Rent? Ya lost me..
Me too... what is this rent you speak of?
I also found this xtool d7 to be worth a try. I was very impressed with its capabilities and performance until I tried to contact customer service after it was unable communicate with any modules on a MBZ E320 2003. I got no response .
Their customer service is non existent.
Same with everything Chinese. Once you bought it you got it 👍.
As I said They will not answer so you are on your own I think that sucks

Thanks for the informative review , God bless and good luck.

The all keys lost function is probably the function that the criminals use when stealing a car. They can simply plug a scantool in the OBD port, create a new key and presto your car is gone. The factory alarm is disabled in seconds as well for most brands.
An OBD lock is a good investment for any car these days.
to connect to OBD even without port is 3 seconds problem for professionals.

Let us into how much it cost to have the locksmith - sounds like the scan tool might be a deal....

If you stick with German cars you will get plenty of use out of your scan tool!
His other video shows a cheapo scan tool that does the TPMS programming for Toyotas ua-cam.com/video/Jl01WsqUFu4/v-deo.html
I bought the eggs to a D7 a year ago because of this video I understand so much more about OBD Diagnostics because of this tool that wire is the only drawback the d8 Bluetooth without the wire that's my next move is to get rid of that wire thanks bro for the good information
Very good video. Two years old and still relevant.
If key programming works, then Autel money it’s worth around $3000 USD. If it doesn’t work, then it’s still amazing the amount you can do. ESPECIALLY output controls for body functions! Would be kinda funny to see that thing hooked up to my 02 Tacoma 😂
Might be something to look at considering $500 is an easier price to pay vs $1,600 to $2,000 for an Autel I have been looking at.
Have to wait a month, there on back order.
i bought the harbor freight item 60794. it was $79,99 and has been able to do everything i need.
Again, thank you , and God bless you too, 🙏✝️👍🇺🇸😇
Please make the video where you talk about quality differences when Toyotas are made in different countries...thank you.
Ahmed I cannot believe we r lucky enuf to have so much knowledge and expertise at our fingertips. I love the abilities of this tool.❤❤❤❤
I bought this scan tool through your link. Thanks very much it has been very useful. There are still some reset functions that i can't access on some cars so still need an official dealer for that. But overall its great
We’ll done! I actually watched the entire video and now know a little more about my D8
@samanthaberry6449 did u figure this out? to help others in the future.
Thanks for any info
I was wondering if this scan tool could perform an injector buzz test for
ford f 250 7.3 diesel???
Thanks for the video Andy. Been looking for a good scan tool and this one really impressed me so I ordered one. It will actually come in really handy as I’m looking at a second vehicle and will help out tremendously deciding on a used car!
This scan tool looks a lot cooler than Scotty's $5000 "fancy scan tool" 😂👍
Excuse me, but are you referring to "Fire Marshall Scotty"?
@@5400bowen probably Scott Kilmer
the one thing they teach you when you do diagnostics ........ connect a intelligent battery charger, great video my friend, thank you.
