Crazy how it's way cheaper in the states. My local retailer asks about 3.5k EU but with 2 years update I must admit but still a big difference
&
Glen - if i can order directly from you - can i used this unit both in Dubai (working now) and later to Philippines - is there any additional charges. - its is also free update?
@@nelsonparedes4847 the updates are all free as long as the tool has a subscription. The link I have listed is for a USA model, it does have a lot of European and Asian vehicles listed but I would suggest contacting Autel about that so your tool will have the correct wall charging plugs. If you can let me know how it worked out because the information may be helpful to other techs. Thanks
Hi, once you've registered the scanner by means of your Lap top will it work on its own built in Wi-Fi out side away from the house were your router is i.e. it doesn't have to rely on being connected that way it will plug and play where ever you are?
Glen, I just want to say thanks for a great explanation video, excellent job, clear and simple ...

I got out of the business 2 years ago and now for 2021 I'm starting all over again, so your video is self explanatory no I can catch up with the latest technology and specially from AUTEL ... which is the product line I'll be selling, installing and training...
Thanks much and Blessed New Years 2021
Best of luck with your refound venture. I personal feel Autel builds a great scan tool and stands behind the product and support. Happy New Year JR
I love this video soo l much. I had this machine for close to 2 yrs now but i am just learning something totally new from you. All this yrs i didn't know all this. Thanks sooo much brother.
👍 Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you
@@ozzstars_cars Yes i did and you welcome. Really thought me a whole lot about this machine. Very helpful.
@@abubakarisadiqueibrahim481 I plan in the future on making more detailed tech videos on the Maxisys. Stay tuned.
@@ozzstars_cars Alright thanks.
I just used my 906 today to help my brother trouble shoot a VVT issue on his Lexus. Love that tool. Having the capability to program is probably more than I'd ever use but I do love options. Nice review Glen.
Thanks Wyatt. Great tool to own.
this is really cool. I'm taking it all in and I'm not falling asleep - coz I love this stuff.
Haha Pat! Good news, thanks for hanging in there like a champ.
Again, great video! I order the MS906s and just got a refund nil stock. I order a M906 pro from another canadian store, nil stock got a refund...Now I just order the MaxiSys MS908S Pro II on the Canadian bestbuy store (open box "ouch") fingers crossed LOL!!!! Thanks again for this very useful channel! J.P.
The 908 is a nice tool! Good luck.
Helpful and clear info Tks from UK LONDON buddy 👍
👍 thanks mate
Superb video. Probably the ONLY video in the world that actually explains Autel's confusing product lineup. At 22:02 you mention that an ECU module from a junk yard has to be reprogrammed to match the car. So... say I use an MS906 pro with only coding capabilities. Can it do that or do I need a scanner with programming capabilities?
Needs programming capabilities. Om some never vehicles modules can not be programmed used, they must be new or erased before attempting to program. Thanks for your comment Mr. Lopez!
Great video…really helpful for me…thank you!
I loved that was a lot of great information thank you very much
You're welcome!
You also can do flashing, i am not sure if you mean this by programming since you seem to associate it with keys only
The
MS908SP vs 906BT... no contest. Buy the 906BT. It costs $1200 less to buy AND theMS908SP needs a Sub renewal every year to program. UH, that is $1200 the first year and $600 per year thereafter just for the privilege of programing. . Unless you have a lot of modules to program, even taking them to a DEALER will cost a LOT less if you only do a couple a year. An independent shop likely will cost a good deal less than the dealer to program. it depends on your workload but... weigh the cost difference!
Will this work on 2004 Chrysler/Jeep vehicles?
Sure will.
this be good for dodge ram diesel trucks ? thanks
Best to contact Autel if you have a specific vehicle.
Hey love your vids, I’m not sure if it’s possible but can I purchase a J2534 VCI box and code with my MS906bt? Thanks
The J box is not compatible with the MS906BT. The 906 can not be used for programming. Thanks for checking out the videos. -Glen
Man wish I knew earlier I would’ve bought the 908 instead🤦♂️ guess I’ll list it for sale😂

Hi I replaced a transmission and transfer case one a 2011 BMW 535i drive I cleared all the codes but when driving the car shakes a lot do I have to program the trans and transfer case to the car? If so would this tool do it? I just ordered the mk906bt but now I may need this tool. Thanks!
You will need to look up service info. The 908SP does have programming capability but not all scan tools do it all. Good luck.

HI, Im aDIYer and a am a former auto mechanic and Engineer, what do you recommend to someone like me and I have a 2014 GL350 with airmatic suspension.
The 906BT is fantastic but if you plan on doing any programming then the 908SP is the way to go. It has BMW and MBenz programming built into the tool without using the J box. The MS906BT has worked very well for me when doing diagnostics, especially using the bi-directional control technology.
@@ozzstars_cars is there something cheaper then that for a mb gl350.
From what I am picking up from the video, except for MB and BMW, the J-Box can be used with a laptop to program and the 908 is not required. Is this correct?
You are correct.
@@ozzstars_cars Thanks. Your videos on the 906/908 were so helpful to me. To up my game from PIDs to a bi-directional scanner opens up a world of new terminology. Autel's (any higher level scanner) advertisements are overwhelming for the uninitiated. Your vids are down to earth.
BTW, the NASTF site is not dot com, it's dot org as they are non profit. I registered without issue.
Are you able to use the MaxiScope with the 908?

Sir, in short words, does 908S worth it money? Or better way to buy 906bt. What is your personal choise? Thank you.
Hello I wanna buy a Maxisys ms908
Can I still diagnose and program with it after the subscription end, it was end in 2021 can I still use it. Or I shouldn’t buy it.
The scanner will not be able to program Mercedes and BMW once the subscription runs out, the J2534 also can't be used to program without an updated subscription to Autel and the manufacturer. It can however still be used to diagnose vehicles up to the point in time it was last updated but will not be fully updated with the latest features.
Can I reprogram the pcm for the Japanese cars with the ms908?
With the J2534 box, laptop and a subscription to the manufacturer software you sure can.
Thanks for you explanation how much cost for year upgrading
That depends on which model scan tool. Anywhere from $350-1100
Autel definitely makes good scan tools. Nice walk through Glen!
Thanks
I don't comment a lot but this video was incredible. It was definitely a long video but a very informative video. You're a great instructor. I wish I had instructors like you when I was learning.
I appreciate that! Thanks for the comment.
Programming needs to be qualified. BMW and mercedes only via the tool. Better j2534 tools for programming like CARDAQ.
Hello guys, I want to buy an altar to reprogram the ecu, there are so many model numbers, your help would be appreciated, I buy a Model at 2000.00 plus tax, I saw the model ms906 pro and there to other models with a J2534 box, I want to make a good choice, if there is another model which would be even better for programming new ecu tcm bcm ect. THANKS. I am from Canada Quebec.
When graphing PIDS can you overlay multiple PIDS onto one graph? A lot of dealer scan tools do this and I'm curious if Autel, ThinkCar, and Snap-On are every going to get with the program, because it's a wonderful feature.
The higher end Autel like the Ultra I believe has that capability. Up in the $4k range.
Just bought an MS908SP. This easily is the most informative, thorough and well thought out review that is available on UA-cam. Thank you so much @

Good video! I have spent a lot of money on scanners and the worst experience I have had was unfortunately with an Autel scanner. It just stopped whilst underwarranty and the supplier and Autel made every attempt to avoid attending to it under warranty. I still have this new scanner which is useless. So I won't buy one of their products ever again. I have found many better companies to deal with that offer much better products. I only hope no one else has a similar experience with Autel as I did, because it was really bad.
What year did you buy the tool and which model scanner was it?
@@ozzstars_cars I purchased a Autolink AL539B in June 2020 on line from a company in Australia called scanner zone. I had used it very little as I had other tools but one day after about 5 months I went to use it and it would not turn on. I contacted the seller who was very difficult and would not give me an address to return to their warehouse in Australia. I contacted Autel and scanner zone to many times aver the next 6months and finally they gave me an address in China to send it under warranty to have it repaired. I believe that they just stalled me all along until the warranty was up. I continued after this time and got no sympathy or service from them. It cost only $129 AU but as a business man for 50 years in electronics I have never seen, heard or experienced anything like this type of service. I was never going to sent it to China from Australia as the freight cost would not be worth the effort and I did not trust them any way to attend to it.
WARNING FOR NEW BUYERS OF THIS SCANNER.....this company's customer service is the worst!!!! I paid for a year subscription (which was not cheap) this company decided to just cancel my subscription without any noticed. there was supposed to be a "glitch" in their system two IP address was registered in their system and then they decided to just cancel mine without noticing me, then refunded the wrong account. I have been trying to resolve this issue with their customer service since APRIL 2022, currently nobody in the company answers my email or calls. so this is a warning for anyone thinking of buying this product that their after sales service really really sucks. I hope this helps.
What scan stool do u suggere me to buy to reprogram the pcm for Japanese cars?
You will need a J2534 box, powerful laptop and a subscription to the manufacturers software website.
@@ozzstars_cars , i don’t know it.
please if u have it i want to see its picture or video
@@ozzstars_cars i see the autel ms908s with j2534 can reprogram the ecu for bmw and bentz only
Do you need to be online to used these kinda OBD Reader ? Do you need to have a wifi to used this ? Can you used this new from the box . ? What happens if you don't updates does this still work ? Is this capable of scanning Fuel Pressure test ? Is this capable of scanning compression test ?
So I was told today by someone who uses Autel Maxisys MS-906BT in a shop where they do a lot of work on Toyotas that the ECU coding capabilities touted by Autel do not apply to Toyota. He said that ECU configuration for Toyotas needs to be done using Techstream and a supported J2534 interface, just like ECU programming. It's the first I heard of it, so I went to the Autel site and checked coverage for several fairly late model Toyotas against the Maxisys MS-906BT and the Elite. Interestingly, none of them included any ECU configuration in the list of functionality supported.
Just wondering Glen, have you (or anyone else reading this) heard of this?
0:44 what is the difference between coding and programming? I thought they were the same. I saw your video about battery replacement in an Audi/Volkswagen using the Autel. I previously had the Ross-Tech VCDS when I had my VW, an incredible tool and it was a steal dollarwise. I could calibrate the speedometer, the number of turn signal flashes on a swipe, etc. Now is that coding or programming?
That is coding. Programming is a complete software flash or re-flash of a new or used module where applicable. Great question!
I am a programmer. Coding means in laymans term your resetting features that already exist, think like you go to livingroom and increase the speed ofthe fan from 1 to 3. 1,2 and 3 speed exist you are just reconfiguring it. Programming means you take old fan out and put a new fan now it has 5 speed. coding is to enable or disable existing feature, programming is to add or delete existing feature.
THANK YOU! I finally understand the difference between all the Autel scanners in regards to ECU coding and programming (i didnt know there was a difference). Im a novice just trying to get my dodge car working which needs an ECU reflash/reprogramming. I was so confused as to what scanner i needed. there was so much misinformation out there. this video is clear and concise. Now i know which scanner i need, which would be the MS908SP Pro!
On a Chrysler the J2534 box is the key to success along with a subscription to the Mopar oem software.

Hey Glen , your video is so well laid out and thorough that I have decided to step up and get either the 906 or 909 , my question is if I were to get the 909 , where would be some good resources to learn programming of the different modules ?
MS909 is a good choice. I would check out Keith Perkins. He is really great at his craft and he is also a great guy.. He has a YTube channel, tell him I sent you. 👍Enjoy your new scan tool. -Glen
Can you program modules without the J box like the new battery make model and SN for example? I have the MS906Pro-TS and it has programming capabilities but not to write to the ECM/PCM/BCM that is where I believe you need the J box correct? I thought the J box was for the main body and engine CPUs
J box is for programming and is necessary for modules, like starting from scratch or updating. Battery Management is coding and no J box is needed.
I made the mistake of purchasing an autel scanner. Not at all impressed. Bad data, false trouble codes, and ridiculous amounts of problems connecting to wifi. The fact that it runs on Android 4.4.4 is a complete joke. It's supposed to be a "modern diagnostic tool" but it operates on an android system that's 8 years old. That's actually rather pathetic. Didn't erase all my personal data after a factory reset, which is beyond ridiculous. I can't ever trade that piece of garbage in or sell it because I can't wipe my personal data from it. Can't use it on modern day Chrysler products without a special adapter because of the gateway module, which adds unnecessary time. Never had any of these issues with a snap on scanner. I was hoping to avoid paying snap on prices because I'm looking to upgrade from the junk autel I'm using, but at least with snap on I'd be getting a known good product. I honestly don't know what people see in these autel scanners, other than maybe price point. Overpriced, unreliable junk in my experience.
Bad data and false trouble codes? I'm interested in hearing about the specifics. You are comparing a $1200 scan tool to a $10,000 scan tool.
Can I reprogram the pcm for the Japanese cars with the autel ms908 pro?
For a 2003 Jeep Liberty 3.7L Power Tech with a 42 RLE transmission would the J2534 and a laptop flash a used TCM?
Along with a subscription to the software from the manufacturer FCA.
Can you test/diagnose heated and cooled seat with autel MaxiSys MS906 Pro TS?
Depends on the vehicle make and model.
I've been happy with the 906BT, but the annual price for software updates is astronomical, even though the BT can't do programming. Hard to justify for the amateur. I see there is now a growing market for individuals like Keith Defazio (New LevelAuto here on UA-cam), who specialize in reflashing computers, basically an IT/programming expert for cars. Shops call him for consultative advice, and they don't have to keep an expert on hand at their own shop. The overhead cost for staying up to date with every manufacturer has to be really high, so even pro shops are subcontracting some of that. Looking at how fast this field is moving, I'm amazed guys like Eric O are able to keep up.
Yes Keith did the mobile diagnostic thing for a long time. He now works for Opus vehicle tech support in NC. Basically it comes down to subscription expense vs. money to be made. The 908SP is a good investment on return if doing programming at least a few times a year. The 906BT is a powerful tool for the money and I really like it. The cost for a subscription renewal can be steep. What kind of pricing have you got?
@@ozzstars_cars The tool cost about 1200 Canadian dollars, and subscription cost was ~800 Canadian dollars/year. I decided not to go for updates, when the tool stops working I'll get another, ha ha. Too bad they don't offer a diy option, like alldata and mitchell.
@@spelunkerd dang! At that price buying a new toy seems worth it. 👍

You did an excellent job of conveying the info needed. I'm trying to figure out what version of Autel tool I need to re-learn a CVT on a 2014 Subaru Outback. Changed out the valve body and I believe re-learning the trans will correct an issue I'm having. I know the Ultra will do it but that's more tool than I can justify for this not being my job.
Any thoughts?
Why buy a fancy scan tool if you won't be using it. Subcontract that part out. The 906 codes the 908SP codes and also program with purchasing the correct software from an OE.
This is the most thorough video on these tools I've seen so far.
Glenn, I have a 2015 Ford F150 2.7L. I need a scan tool for my Ford that can do everything, especially prime my auxiliary transmission fluid pump. I need to replace that part and I don't want to take it to the dealership. Do you have any suggestions?
No scan tool does it all but if you want Ford specific then go with the IDS.
Aproving from Brazil, Good vídeo mr ozzstar`s cars!!
Could you do promissed continuation of module programing on PC Microsoft based that you Said was easy and Just know The right paths?! It would be awesome
I was super dis-appointed in the tools ability to graph data. The data pids refresh rate is very slow but i like to be able to graph muliple pids or record a road test. I use my Zeus for that since it graphs data and road tests better than any tool ive ever used.
Don't waste your money on the scope option as its the worst scope i think ive ever seen.
For a cheap Chinese scan tool it has good coverage for the money. I hate buying Chinese anything though whether its a scan tool or going to walmart. Plus with their history of pirating software from American companies and being sued muliple times its hard for me to excited about them.
I always have two scanners one being my Snap On I was thinking about checking out the Gscan for my second tool and shit can the Chinese tool.
No scan tool does it all, that's for sure. I have had no issues using the graphing feature with the Maxisys but then again I don't own a SnapOn scanner. I'd prefer to have an Autel Ultra which would be top dog. Like you I have purposely bought Made in the USA products (not just tools). I have been disappointed more than once for the extra money I spent hoping for a superior product. Thanks for your point of view and checking out the video.
Does Autel have an hour/daily subscription rate like the OE BMW AOS or Ford IDS?
The subscription is yearly. Outside programming except Mercedes and BMW is additional.

Now if you don't pay every yearly or monthly can you still used it to scan for everything ?
I really like your videos and I would like to purchase one of theses Autel scanners but not until I find out why mechanics and DIY'ers are not up in arms and allowing theses companies to scam them with updates? You are being scammed like never before. I bet they are nothing but bug fixes. They want the public to find all the bugs and then soak you $600 each year. I would bet that if you missed two or more years of subscriptions that your machine would say this isn't supported and that isn't supported etc. How much longer will mechanics allow them self's to be scammed like this?
can i code and program using the ms906bt??
The 906BT has no programming capabilities. Check out my video on the 906BT vs. 908SP.
Great video, I keep learning a lot. Quick question, so if I understood correctly you could buy just the Jbox Vci without having to buy 908sp and still be able to do some programming using a laptop beside Mercedes and BMW. Is that even an option? I hope it makes sense
I believe the Autel Jbox needs to be updated and have a current subscription activated with the 908SP in order to work correctly regardless what vehicle is being worked on.
Can MK908P program S class 2007 windows.
Not sure, I don't own an MK model.
Hi Glen, Will this tool clear crash data and change vin numbers on used modules ?
I'm not sure about clearing crash data black boxes. Some modules can be programmed using the J2534 and factory accessed software with a subscription. The scan tool by itself can only program BMW and MBenz. Hope that info helps Bruce Wayne. 😉
What scanner can you recommend in adjusting odometer of any unit?
None that I know of.
