@SpecOps1987 They where equally skilled. Also, the ducati was running factory suspension settings. Set up for a 160 lbs 5,8ft tall person. Had the bike been adjusted to the riders weight and height, the race would not have been so close.
thanks ambertch i'm looking to get a nice road bike soon, not too sure which would be the most suitable tho, i've always loved the ducs but am really clueless about bikes. i should maybe look at 400's or 600's then?
Tiff is probably by far the best driver i have ever seen. He can be going into a corner at 90Mph and carry on talking really calmly, he can be driving at 180mph and still keeps his calm. He is one cool driver. :D
@flashkillerffff you're partially correct. a skilled driver doesn't change the cars' result as much as a skilled rider does a bike. the bike is like 40% machine and 60% rider, the car is like 60% machine and 40% driver... having that said the 999 really is not that fast... put a 4cyl 1000cc bike and the result would be much different... (of course the car is better at turns and breaks, however the bike makes up for its turning latency in straights from turn to turn. Depends on the track as well)
Lamborghini, Ferrari, Ducati, Aprilia, Benelli...must be proud to be an Italian. Especially right now Ferrari and Ducati got the Championsip on Formula and MotoGP.
tight, id have thought it would have been a bit easier for the bike but obviously the manouverability of an AWD car makes up for the slight acceleration dissadvantage.
True to that, just look at the steering wheel and the dash in the Gallardo, looks almost the same as a standard Audi/VW interior, only with some nicer looking materials, the used molds and all that are completely the same..
That was very cool... it would be good to see the two superimposed images for the entire lap. Or even better, put them out on the track at the same time to fight it out.
Tom Green is kinda right, motorbikes are so small and light that they accelerate like crazy so putting a car, even a very good one against a bike is just not fair because the bike has such a weight advantage over any car.
If all things are equal for wt/hp then a car will always beat a bike if there are long tight turns, but if the track does not have decreasing radius turns then a bike will win. Bikes have better acceleration, but cars have better braking and being able to hold higher G's in corner. Great video!! They should try these competitions at different tracks.
Actually weah11, every Lambo is named after a specific bull. Murcielago put on such a good show, that the bullfighter spared his life. This very rarely happens.
That's why I said "almost" always and not always. The GTR is a very unique exception to the rule. It's brutally powerful and corners better than almost anything else on the road. So if you were to put a Superbike up against the GTR, it would be close, but I'd probably put my money on the GTR.
@EMT22637 made me laugh. But remember, your 1998 Ford Ranger is faster and more mobile than anything anyone had 100 years ago. No Roman emperor could dream of such a toy
Well, who wins is a matter of the track setup, right? If it's heavy on straightaways, the bike will probably win by its sheer greater acceleration power. But if it is a turn-heavy track, the Lambo will gain a distinct advantage in the corners.
Man, I just love the compressed, sleek look of the Gallardo! Imo, the design is absolutely exquisite. Call me crazy, but I actually prefer it to its larger cousin. This car is my wet dream! :D Gayardo, my ass. This car is a masterpiece of engineering and aesthetics!
I think the logic is simple. Bikes are almost always faster than cars. Even high performance ones (Gallardo) are not able to keep up with a high powered sport bike.
And the acceleration isn't that simple either. Yes, the motorcycle has a much better power to weight ratio so it's much faster at low speeds, but in the high end powerful cars accelerate faster than bikes because they have so much more horsepower. It depends which track you put them on as to which will be quicker.
@qiovanni Pronunciation of vowels or letters doesn't change from Spain to the Americas, regional accents do just like inside Spain but nothing else, grammar is the same too. When I visit Spain they always figure that I'm from the Canary Islands. I don't understand the Gagliardo spelling to pronounce the word as in spanish because I think that spelling wont give you the spanish pronunciation, that's what I meant. You might have the name in italian too but that wasn't my point.
everyone keeps saying cars handle better than bikes, but I'm not so sure. Sportbikes can do a lot of lateral Gs, I don't know how much off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure they can do over 1G, which is about the same if not a little better than sportscars. Bikes can't transition like cars can though, so that hurts them.
my friend does it on perielli angels, which are hard and don't grab very well. I have BT-016's which are sticky. I thought thats why i couldn't do it. It just takes alot of skill and practice. (i've only been riding since october)
last models of lamborghini have spanish name but the engine only cames from audi but adapted by lamborghini for a supercar and so really different. Audi used this lamborghini V10 for its S8 model
@206lovesme I drive a 99 Honda CRV. It gets me from where i was to where i am going to be. Its warm in the winter, cool in the summer, dry in the rain, and i can fit about 6 chicks and a bong in it. I think the Ducati can hold a notebook. Oh, i can also go in reverse and stand still without having to hold anything up.
I've had fast cars and bikes, I've also driven a Gallardo, My Friend has one, I'd much rather own a Gallardo than a bike, I've not had a bike for almost 5 years because of what they have done to so many of my friends in the past. I've only lost one friend in a car crash.
Not true.. physics clearly limit a motorcycle in the turns - a bike can only lean down so far to combat lateral g-forces, and at the same time.. this limits the bike's contact patch with the road (and if pushed too far, this contact becomes too small to hold the line and the bike will slide out). A car has infinite lateral stability if it's center of gravity is low enough; only limited by the tire's grip. The bike's power to weight ratio allows it to catch up easily in braking/accel however.
@Testacojones you are wrong, your pronunciation is maybe American, Central and South-American. I think it's Argentinian to pronounce Gallardo as "jar" in English. In Spanish, and that's the name of the car, the correct pronunciation is Gallardo as Gagliardo , same as Calle, Botella, Gagliardo is in the Italian dictionary too, but we don't use it a lot.
OK, for a moped it's 14 years old, a car and a bike it's 16 years old (with the parent's signature). Drink a beer in a bar it's 18 years old. For voting it's 18 too!
No in Italian (Just like in Spanish, both ow which derived from Latin) the two "LL"'s put together are a considered a different letter on it's own and when applied have a distinct sound. It sounds much like Y to the untrained ear.
Forget everything else, I hate the way Tiff drives. If he had enough frickin' skill to control the thing out of the hairpin it probably would've edged ahead.
It's not at all as simple as that. Bikes accelerate faster at the low end. High performance cars are faster at the high end due to better aerodynamics. Cars brake better, and have more traction in the corners. When you put all these together on a road course/circuit, it results in a very exciting match. I love bikes, but it's completely incorrect to say "you cannot beat a motorbike in a car". It totally depends on the contest.
You don't do a power lap while constantly drifting the bloody car on every bend! That's why I like the Top Gear... A proper car show with proper power laps, for proper petrolheads...
Whats your point ? the Nismo R34 has a turbo or super charged im sure imagen what would happen if you did this to the lambo remember its a naturaly asperated engine!
@SpecOps1987 They where equally skilled. Also, the ducati was running factory suspension settings. Set up for a 160 lbs 5,8ft tall person. Had the bike been adjusted to the riders weight and height, the race would not have been so close.
Ducati 999R has 150hp, not 180hp as stated in the vid
Man i love how you overlay the segments. Wonderful video. DO more soon plz!
thanks ambertch i'm looking to get a nice road bike soon, not too sure which would be the most suitable tho, i've always loved the ducs but am really clueless about bikes. i should maybe look at 400's or 600's then?
I never get tired of this vid... I love it.
Tiff is probably by far the best driver i have ever seen. He can be going into a corner at 90Mph and carry on talking really calmly, he can be driving at 180mph and still keeps his calm. He is one cool driver. :D

is this the same as the ducati 999r or is it a slower model
yess, but it says in the beginning of the clip the 999 has 180bhp, just pointing out a mistake
2:25
Awesome rear skid. That guy has really great control on that bike!
Sh*t that is serious skill on that bike. I could never dream of pushing my bike that hard and make it look so natural!
which pixel is the bike?
Which pixel is the Ducati?
how much it cost this car?
Where are these guys from???
Lamborghini, Ferrari, Ducati, Aprilia, Benelli...must be proud to be an Italian.
Especially right now Ferrari and Ducati got the Championsip on Formula and MotoGP.
tight, id have thought it would have been a bit easier for the bike but obviously the manouverability of an AWD car makes up for the slight acceleration dissadvantage.
what did you do whit that Ducati? 180bhp has ducati f04 in sbk challenge
@TychoCelchu my guess is because its a car show so they want to exaggerate the opposition in order to make the cage look better for keeping up?
Something I've read about busas:
"Handling is only important in that it gets you out of the corner and onto the next straight."
True to that, just look at the steering wheel and the dash in the Gallardo, looks almost the same as a standard Audi/VW interior, only with some nicer looking materials, the used molds and all that are completely the same..
@Ishtelte what and gallardo's don't "sometimes cost your life"...??? are you saying that no one dies in cars?
That was very cool... it would be good to see the two superimposed images for the entire lap. Or even better, put them out on the track at the same time to fight it out.
shame about the quality but great comparison, Tiff drifting a Gallardo is a match made in heaven.
I agree. Unless the car is prepared for racing with weight reduction any comparison with a motorbike is pretty pointless, actually.
Damn, that dude really rode the hell out of that bike to post that time! Cool vid.
@zurbon it's pronounced that way. double L becomes J in italian and spannish. obviously few people know.
Tom Green is kinda right, motorbikes are so small and light that they accelerate like crazy so putting a car, even a very good one against a bike is just not fair because the bike has such a weight advantage over any car.
@OneWheelLunatic Yes I know that. She made it seem like just because it has 4 tires, that its automatically better.
this is anglesey rite?
@Aziikus Ludshe chem ty!!! He's no Schumacher, but he was a professional F1 driver.
Agree with both points. And to think that Fifth Gear burnt the cool wall down...
Man that was a nice 4 wheel drift Tiff pulled warming up the tires.
lol i love how he says gallardo "gayardoe" hahahahhahhahah
Sounds like Bear Grylls if he were a motor sports enthusiast.
y does the steering wheel turn so horrible? is it n overdrive or sumthin?? FIX IT!!!
These tests don`t really matter because the real difference is that outside of a racetrack riding a bike is just so much more fun.
Try taking a turn at 75-120 mph, you'll be drifting too. If you haven't noticed, it's a race course with a bunch of sharp turns.
Dude That was awesome!! .44 sec defeat!
I don't have much time, well, any time for Fifth Gear, but don't be silly. Tiff is a very impressive driver.
Awesome moves and race.
The closer the weight distribution is to 50/50 front/rear the better the handling will be.
If all things are equal for wt/hp then a car will always beat a bike if there are long tight turns, but if the track does not have decreasing radius turns then a bike will win. Bikes have better acceleration, but cars have better braking and being able to hold higher G's in corner. Great video!! They should try these competitions at different tracks.
excuse me ... try veyron
have you watched veyron vs R1 ? ty
Actually weah11, every Lambo is named after a specific bull. Murcielago put on such a good show, that the bullfighter spared his life. This very rarely happens.
That's why I said "almost" always and not always.

thanks for the advice i like the look of the sv650 in yellow, looks mean! what about a 2nd hand duc tho they look sick, like the ferrari of bikes.
@EMT22637 made me laugh. But remember, your 1998 Ford Ranger is faster and more mobile than anything anyone had 100 years ago. No Roman emperor could dream of such a toy
Wow look at the power and how much skill it takes to ride that bike.
So much more fun than 4 wheels.
Yup! That's right! Technically speaking, it's amazing! I agreed that! N 999R is the one of my favourite bike that i love most!
This car is a masterpiece of engineering and aesthetics!
are ducati's difficult to ride?
I think the logic is simple. Bikes are almost always faster than cars. Even high performance ones (Gallardo) are not able to keep up with a high powered sport bike.
Dude on the bike is a beast when it was time to get serious. Wow is all I have to say.
Great video!!
Why did they lie about the 999 stats?
- 140bhp for the standard bike, 150bhp for the R model
- top speed is more like 170mph
And the acceleration isn't that simple either. Yes, the motorcycle has a much better power to weight ratio so it's much faster at low speeds, but in the high end powerful cars accelerate faster than bikes because they have so much more horsepower.
It depends which track you put them on as to which will be quicker.
apart from the obvious price difference, I think it would be funner to ride and own the duke.
@qiovanni Pronunciation of vowels or letters doesn't change from Spain to the Americas, regional accents do just like inside Spain but nothing else, grammar is the same too. That was a scary ride on the Ducati. I thought he was going to die when he was braking hard with the rear coming out.
everyone keeps saying cars handle better than bikes, but I'm not so sure. yea I agree some re gearing and a good rider and I think a decent bike could get pretty high in speed
pretty cool illustration.
I don't care about how they feel about each other, this is me saying "Something about Tiff pisses me off. I'd rather listen to Clarkson."
i was replying to the guy who said this is a rip off of top gear. i wasnt talking about the lambo and ducati.
the spell is right but it is actually an italian specie of bulls and the name gajardo also means "very cool" in italian
@Sauron767 Well the show is mostly about sports car, MOST sports car have 6 gears, i haven't seen any trucks or things like that here xD.
my friend does it on perielli angels, which are hard and don't grab very well. I have BT-016's which are sticky. I thought thats why i couldn't do it. It just takes alot of skill and practice. (i've only been riding since october)

I'm Italian..either Ducati or Lamborghini, I'm proud of both XD
Esta chido... aunque no sacan todo de los dos... tienen aun mas...
i just love how tiff highlights the "GAY" loll
its funny
Some say he blinks sideways, and that all his legs are hydraulic. All we know is, he's called THE STIG
holy crap that was and awesome vid. i want that ducati now
this video was awsome
I parked next to a Gallardo at the grocery store. It really is breathtaking, unlike my volkswagen golf hahaa
@Testacojones

That'sTiff Needel. He can drive AND speak at the same time. Legend :-)
No in Italian (Just like in Spanish, both ow which derived from Latin) the two "LL"'s put together are a considered a different letter on it's own and when applied have a distinct sound. It sounds much like Y to the untrained ear.
but my neighbor has a suzuki GSX/R which is devastatingly fast also vry nice love the sound from it
both are beautiful machines.
Forget everything else, I hate the way Tiff drives. If he had enough frickin' skill to control the thing out of the hairpin it probably would've edged ahead.
great stuff!
i love how they put the plus sign after the top speed when its only 2or3 mph higher
itly makes the best fast cars and the video was awsome
the bike and car may be close in racing ,but if you talk about fuel efficency , there's no doubt who wins.
whats mean Bhp?
I don't get it, why is 5fth gear called 5fth gear, it's like it's a show about old and slow cars. They should make it 6th gear.
It's not at all as simple as that. Bikes accelerate faster at the low end. High performance cars are faster at the high end due to better aerodynamics. IMPRESIONANTE...
@gameking210 Gallardo is a spanish name for a spanish bull. and no ll is not pronounced as a C in italian. I dont think they use ll in italian
How do the motorists manuvear those kinds of turns??!!! That's some ride.
You don't do a power lap while constantly drifting the bloody car on every bend!
That's why I like the Top Gear... A proper car show with proper power laps, for proper petrolheads...
yea ok.. .cz i really doubt it would touch the veyron or the CCX
Whats your point ? the Nismo R34 has a turbo or super charged im sure imagen what would happen if you did this to the lambo remember its a naturaly asperated engine!
