I do enjoy these "whats faster car vs bike" videos. truth is the answer is as diverse as the tracks are. If you have a power circuit like the top gear test track then a motorbike will clean up. If you have a circular test track the car's going to clean up. Owning a car or a bike of this caliber realistically When reality comes'a'knockin we are not all millionaires, If you are great, buy both and ride your bike once a month in the summer when the weather is perfect. but we all have commitments and obligations so we have to put thought into our purchases. price vs performance (yes car guys roll your eyes) For the price of the entry level "sports car" MX-5 your looking at about £18,000 for something that really is a sports car in name only (I personally believe an MX-5 would be great fun to drive) but is not going to set your pants on fire with 0-60 in 12 seconds. maybe you could spec up and pay £25,000 and get one that does 0-60 in 10 seconds im not sure (im speculating at this point) got to any of the big 4 and you can ride away from a dealership for about £8000 on a 600 that is seriously in super car territory. it will do the speed limit in about 3.6 seconds and 100 not much later. What most people who don't ride motorbikes generally don't understand is that even modern "street bikes" are insanely fast by car standards and offer more comfort and (for me) more enjoyment for road riding For me a motorcycle makes sense. They offer good value for money, insane performance, easy to store and great fun. A motorcycle is great vehicle for anyone who owns an ordinary car.
This video is awesome, it doesn't have the B.S. of Top Gear, who would have the Ferrari doing power slides around the track. This was an actual track test and I loved it.
With less rotational inertia and unsprung weight, the ceramic discs give more benefits than the obvious better braking and better high temp performance to cut lap time. It's good to see the bike do a 1:47, even though the slicks seemed unfair. If someone said "Here, ride my Desmo with slicks around this here racetrack against my F430". It's not like you'd say "I insist you take the slicks off first, it's not fair".
why do people always compare the wrong cars, this ferrari and ducati are both top of their class, they are the best vehicles to test the car and bike, yea get a pro car racer and car will go quicker, but get a pro bike rider. and you cant compare a gumpert or a track car, because its designed for racing! these bikes can also be used every day for popping to the shops! this is a great video and a proper car vs bike test. maybe a different track with more corners would make the car win
@ispeed2010 are you suggesting that the Ferrari FXX or even a Zonda or LP670 would do a 13 sec QUICKER lap than the trackday 430 suda? i mean that is a lot of time to make up. A LOT of time...
@54thAggressors I go with you in that, everyone can drive a Ferrari with its 5 settings traction control, but in the bike you got the body, knees and hands to do the difference.
They probably ran separately so they could push the vehicles more to their limits without worrying about another vehicle on the track, and then later filmed each other going round together. In the video they even talk about their best lap times, so it certainly (and smartly) wasn't a "race" per say. It was still awesome to watch, though!
Michael Neeves is a very decent club racer and front runner with the British Motorcyle Racing Club (Bemsee). There are far too many variables for these comparisons to work. Almeria is a very technical circuit. It flows if you get it right!
When did the race begin? All I saw was a guy with a passenger who I assume was Miss Daisy. However it is afterall a motorbike program, would be embrassing if the Scuderia won wouldn't it :)
I understand what you mean, as a real world rider my 848 is more than enough for me. But if someone can afford it, why not. I've seen a Desmoscedici once in the wild and it was an amazing piece of machinery. Very intense sound and it's one of the most special bikes you can buy. If I could afford one I would buy one (there is one for sale @Goedhart Motoren), but in the real world it would be of no use whatsoever =P Just an amazing piece of exotica to own. Just like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani.
@ispeed2010 this was one of the best comparisons, a fast track car against a fast track bike. the 860 FXX is not a good comparison because its only a track car. the power to weight ratio will always be in the bikes favour, a 600cc bike will still produce about 800bhp per tonne. people who dont ride bikes and dont like bikes always say bikes are crap and slower, when the fact is, there usually not unless you put them against a fast car, or put them on a very tight twisty track!
The 200+hp is claimed to be stock. I don't know how much they really did to it (aside from the exhaust) to mod it from the "stock" version. CF panels come with those as well. BCM Ducati had two at their shop in NH, USA and I've gotten a chance to look them over pretty closely. Seems like they just might have had wheels and an exhaust as upgrades. Lastly, footage-wise, they didn't seem to really be pushing the vehicles that hard. Video seemed deceptive at best (aside from maybe the start).
A road going superbike will always beat a road going supercar. Because there are fewer emissions and safety requirements, bikes have always been closer to their racing cousins than cars.
Not because of emissions. It is because building high hp/kg engines becomes exponentially more difficult with higher hp. Because of the already low kg of the bike it always has a higher kg/hp
@TopBike2009 The ducati is road legal standard and he was saying the only thing thats really changed is the tyres so what makes you think the bike isnt road legal, just because they have prepped it for a trackday ( removed plate, indicated ect ect). And the car is a 430 for starters so is like the bike on the faster side of things but the one in this video is a trackday prepped car with upgraded breaks ect
@d3vi0uz This video wasn't about a broad comparison between bikes and cars, especially F1. F1 cars will beat any vehicle around a track, especially any hypercars such as the Pagani Zonda. This was simply a track comparison between two road going Italian icons, Ferrari and Ducati. In this case the bike was quicker in acceleration and quicker in lap times as well as faster in top speed on the straight. The Ferrari probably was braking deeper into corners and was quicker entry to exit.
My point exactly, they were not on a slow twisty track for the car to take advantage hence a faster straight line car would help, plus second best track car or not they are still not as quick as you'd think and i'm talking from experience! People think if it has a ferrari badge it's unbeatable, bollocks there are far better track cars than a ferrari, i've seen them beat so many times and have ran with one no probs in a 530bhp subaru, they are not the be all and end all of cars!
@gordyvfr1200 I think you might have been out the same day as myself i think there was about 5 desmosdicrappies and another 6 other ducatis, all of them were riding like fannys and that was a dry day ; i also seen a big guy on a tiger pass some of them and they couldnt look at him in the corners he was hard on it , i think he comes from around Armadale area and they call him the captain . Does anyone know him ?
Have you ever ridden a superbike my friend. NO car can compare to the sheer speed, thrill and involvment of a superbike. In a car you are isolated and caged in with little or no inolvment with the world outside. Do yourself a favour and book yourself on a trackday riding a bike- you'll never forget it.
It was a given the ducatti would beat the ferrari motorcycles have always been in form to beat cars anyday in a race with turns. In a drag race maybe a car but in turns the motorcycles have the biggest advantage!!!
You can't say which is better. Cars have an immense contact patch advantage and bikes have a power-to-weight advantage. In a traffic light grand prix, bike all the way. On a twisty track, I'd go for the car. For fun, bike. For srs bsns, car.
@MrJakeluna That's unfair as well, F1 cars are incredible feats of machinery, nothing can beat an F1 car. The reason of the test was to try out road-legal vehicles against each other. Of course, there are some tracks where a car would thrash a bike, but in this instance the bike had the advantage on the course they were doing, because of the immense power to weight ratio.
No matter what you're racing, it almost always comes down to the power to weight ratio. This bike has 200HP and the car has 500HP the bike has a far better power to weight ratio. I'd be happy with either one.
the bit where the car wasnt going quick was because thay were trying to get shots for the videothe laps they did quick arent on the video for some reason
@biglarfspeed6 I'm a biker at heart...but I see your point. Then again, there are plenty of videos with specially modified 800hp cars going up against basically stock bikes in rolling starts so I guess it balances out in the end.Fact is...NO ONE is going to have the fastest vehicle...there will always be someone building something faster. So just enjoy the one u luv. I do.My CBR11 was no longer the fastest once the 'Busa dropped but I'am not about to trade for anything.
@dude157 That's a tough call. Bikes are aerodynamic bricks as you go faster. At some point a car will have better aerodynamic profile to win out on a straight sprint.
@goonballer actually this desmo got more power than bmw. Its got over 200 hp at the rear wheel on this desmosecidi. If you notice with mcn, they rarely ever put a ducati in a test with full exhaust systems, but I think this one has been slightly tuned. Power is nothing unless someone can use it. I think Ducati need to sort out their gp bike for poor Rossi.
The Desmosedici costs about $60,000...kinda pricey but hell of a great bike. You can buy a kawasaki zx10r or bmw s1000rr, turbocharge or supercharge it for a fraction of the price, and you'd smoke a desmosedici. A 2011 zx10r (us version is restricted) puts about ~163hp at the rear wheel, BMW S1000rr puts about 170-173 hp at the rear wheel. When it comes to city driving, a scooter can beat a ferrari because you can lane split cars! Its all relative my friends!
@gongzee There's still a huge difference between between a race prepped bike lacking headlights/turn signals sporting race tires, and a street legal track day car meant for the road with road tires and full trim. The racing tires with pre-warming give the bike an enormous advantage, and make this a biased race.
Its certainly not worth 2.5 million by a long shot. But you clearly weren't listening, this Desmo was not one of the standard production models selling for that price, and is worth a fair chunk more.
are you sure about the wheels? listen again - what he says is "16.5 inch Marchesini wheels means we can run proper racing tyres which a standard Des can't."
Good test but ,i think, that it is doing bike a favour. The car you have to put against the bike is the supercharged ariel atom or ,even better, the new V8 ariel atom.
@loboxido I have to disagree. I'm not saying the bike isn't cool, but I would feel way cooler and happier in the Scuderia. I guess it's just personal preference.
@llucaskelly I agree completely. He made no attempt at coming anywhere close to the limits of the car. At no point was he near redlining the engine or the edge of tire adhesion. This was a waste of time and a smack in the face of motorsports enthusiasts.
@54thAggressors that means nothing.racing is a team sport, building the machine is part of the sport. if everybody raced the same cars and the same bikes it wouldnt matter how much its up to the machine or driver, youd still have to be a better driver than others to win.
I was sorta surprised, I do both motorcycles and rally car, and I thought the grip from the car might keep it in front of the bike, its cool the bike won
@TopBike2009 Thats a fair point but what im trying to say is that in this vid, both the car and bike are very very high spec and in the highest group of their respected groups which would make it a fair race. I know what your trying to say, it would be fair if the bike was racing a formula 2 car or something along those lines (dont know a huge amount about car racing, so dont know what would be fair in your mind) but then that would be road legal so it would be a fair race if you understand me.
1) The bike is running on slick tyres... the ferrari wasnt. 2) Like jxi100 said... theyve just added 80-100kg to ferraris weight. 3) The Scuderia shoudnt have been choosed to made this race. But... in the end, it will always depend on what kind of circuit you're racing.
@pinespeakz I didnt actually want to put 2 people on the bike mate, i was just stating how unfair the test was. Like i said enzo vs ducati, that way its best ferrari road car vs best ducati road bike. Oh and a decent driver for the car too.
When it comes to car v bike, it usually comes down to the track. On straights and accelerating out of the exit of a bend, a bike will blitz a car, however in the braking zones and through most corners a car will be quicker. By the way the car was being driven here, i don't think it was a fair match. However i reckon both flat out here, the bike would still comfortably beat the ferrari. But at some other tracks the ferrari may have the edge. Important to point out the bike was on full slicks
I got a better race for them, how about Micheal Neeves on the desmo vs Valentino Rossi in lap times on the desmo. Then the ferrari driver vs a proffesional car racer, then compaire the time differences on both car and bike with good riders. My money would be on the bike even if I were racing it with its insane power and handling. I rekon they should do a few more races but on different tracks to get a better comparison. Well done Mike for showing the truth.
The problem with this video is the sound track. Who wants to hear music when you have a Ducati and Ferrari wailing around a track? Seriously!
I do enjoy these "whats faster car vs bike" videos. truth is the answer is as diverse as the tracks are. If you have a power circuit like the top gear test track then a motorbike will clean up. If you have a circular test track the car's going to clean up. Owning a car or a bike of this caliber

price vs performance (yes car guys roll your eyes)
For the price of the entry level "sports car" MX-5 your looking at about £18,000 for something that really is a sports car in name only (I personally believe an MX-5 would be great fun to drive) but is not going to set your pants on fire with 0-60 in 12 seconds. maybe you could spec up and pay £25,000 and get one that does 0-60 in 10 seconds im not sure (im speculating at this point)

Absolutely loved it. It's probably one of the best things you guys have put out thus far.
This video is awesome, it doesn't have the B.S. of Top Gear, who would have the Ferrari doing power slides around the track. This was an actual track test and I loved it.
That was great fun to watch. Thanks guys!
gotta love Italians passion for cars and bikes.

It's not like you'd say "I insist you take the slicks off first, it's not fair".
cars are always faster then motorcycles, but motorcycles are pure awesomness and fun
just outta curiosity, was the scud slick shod as well? I still think the bike would be faster, but it wouldn't be that big a gap.
@Fonno88 what in "Capirossis machine REPLICA" didnt you understand? BTW the Scuderia is a race car, so what is your point?
@biglarfspeed6 its a track day version of the normal ferrari 430, so it is race ready
Amazing video, thanks for this!
why do people always compare the wrong cars, this ferrari and ducati are both top of their class, they are the best vehicles to test the car and bike, yea get a pro car racer and car will go quicker, but get a pro bike rider. and you cant compare a gumpert or a track car, because its designed for racing! these bikes can also be used every day for popping to the shops! this is a great video and a proper car vs bike test. maybe a different track with more corners would make the car win
Great business, many thanks for this footage

@54thAggressors I go with you in that, everyone can drive a Ferrari with its 5 settings traction control, but in the bike you got the body, knees and hands to do the difference.
can you guys make it happen ... rossi vs schumacher - 599 gto and desmo
They probably ran separately so they could push the vehicles more to their limits without worrying about another vehicle on the track, and then later filmed each other going round together. In the video they even talk about their best lap times, so it certainly (and smartly) wasn't a "race" per say.

Why can't MCN invest in some good mics and drivers/presentators? really sub par as always
post a link of your sources, i wanna see that.
What about F1 car v F1 bike? or would that not be bias to the bike, being mcn
They were on the track at the same time - the full article is in this weeks MCN.
Were they racing or cruising?
Michael Neeves is a very decent club racer and front runner with the British Motorcyle Racing Club (Bemsee). There are far too many variables for these comparisons to work. Almeria is a very technical circuit. It flows if you get it right!
Totally pointless vid. The guy seems like he's going to get groceries in that Ferrari.
When did the race begin? All I saw was a guy with a passenger who I assume was Miss Daisy. However it is afterall a motorbike program, would be embrassing if the Scuderia won wouldn't it :)
How about shumi on a Ferrari FXX against Rossi on the desmosedici..
I understand what you mean, as a real world rider my 848 is more than enough for me. But if someone can afford it, why not. Did the driver switched sport mode on???
common sense will tell that there is no way for a car to beat a bike in the race track. great video.
@Linxer22 depends on the track, long swooping turns the bike would kill.
@aluisious Are you from Alaska ? if you need help just just ask
why would anyone put music under this clip...
Shoulda let the Stig drive the Rarri. Amazing bike, but damn they didn't look like either one pushed very hard.
Both beautiful... and I'd love to have 1 of each in the garage!!

is that 2012 desmosedici ?
@goonballer
Wrong, the S1000RR beat the Aprilia on the track and on the road, tested in several magazines here in Europe.
@TopBike2009 The ducati is road legal standard and he was saying the only thing thats really changed is the tyres so what makes you think the bike isnt road legal, just because they have prepped it for a trackday ( removed plate, indicated ect ect). which is fastest in the rain with shopping and from cold?
@kablah8900 rossi on ducati?...
@d3vi0uz This video wasn't about a broad comparison between bikes and cars, especially F1.

Both are excellent machines - the bike does have more race inspired goodies under that fairing than the car I think?

@pinespeakz its actually about £40000 and it can be used daily. and also dont forget, this is a £170,000 car
Screw the adverts
What a great bike. That car is still awesome for a car though. Both sound very good!
we want to hear that high revving v4 desmocedici engine :D
It was a given the ducatti would beat the ferrari motorcycles have always been in form to beat cars anyday in a race with turns. In a drag race maybe a car but in turns the motorcycles have the biggest advantage!!!
You can't say which is better. Cars have an immense contact patch advantage and bikes have a power-to-weight advantage. In a traffic light grand prix, bike all the way. On a twisty track, I'd go for the car. For fun, bike. For srs bsns, car.
Was it the fastest Sunday driver around the track?
@MrJakeluna That's unfair as well, F1 cars are incredible feats of machinery, nothing can beat an F1 car. The reason of the test was to try out road-legal vehicles against each other. Sprichst du dann auch Deutsch?
No matter what you're racing, it almost always comes down to the power to weight ratio. This bike has 200HP and the car has 500HP the bike has a far better power to weight ratio. I'd be happy with either one.

@dude157 That's a tough call. Bikes are aerodynamic bricks as you go faster. At some point a car will have better aerodynamic profile to win out on a straight sprint.
Ducati Desmosedici vs F1 car Much more interesting as they both are the ultimate versions of each vehicle
@ozekiozeki1 if both of them are crushed who do you think would cry more?
@gongzee It's basically like racing a scuderia against a 599xx.
Cars can never create the man-machine interface as well as a bike can.
@ajpein Agreed. The Stig vs. Valentino Rossi. There is a match up.
Hell Id kill to have either one!!
203bhp at the rear wheel?
The dude owns both of them lool the ferrari in the motorcycle world and the ferrari itself! Nice one mate! lool
Is that not the camera man, buddy?
i don't care who's driving or who's riding ... the stig, rossi, schumacher, you name it ... THE DESMO RULES
The Desmosedici costs about $60,000...kinda pricey but hell of a great bike. @2wheelfamily I'm pretty sure it's roughly $100000 Australian. Check Bikepoint for prices, I've seen a few on there
@gongzee There's still a huge difference between between a race prepped bike lacking headlights/turn signals sporting race tires, and a street legal track day car meant for the road with road tires and full trim. @loboxido I have to disagree. I'm not saying the bike isn't cool, but I would feel way cooler and happier in the Scuderia. I guess it's just personal preference.
the last minute of that video is the best LOL
@MrWillydoit I concur, this guy looked like he was on a Sunday drive. I think the bike will still win, but it should be closer.
No comparison...Both are great and manly in their own ways...
Geez that old man has all my dream machine
@llucaskelly I agree completely. He made no attempt at coming anywhere close to the limits of the car. At no point was he near redlining the engine or the edge of tire adhesion. This was a waste of time and a smack in the face of motorsports enthusiasts.
@54thAggressors

@ScbrN5454 Well I guess they make a couple of laps for pictures and videos and don't really show an entire lap of them pushing it to the limit.
@vsuripa It took you 6 minutes to realise this? What are you going to do with the six minutes if you get it back?
1) The bike is running on slick tyres... the ferrari wasnt.
2) Like jxi100 said... theyve just added 80-100kg to ferraris weight.
3) The Scuderia shoudnt have been choosed to made this race.
But... in the end, it will always depend on what kind of circuit you're racing.

By the way the car was being driven here, i don't think it was a fair match. However i reckon both flat out here, the bike would still comfortably beat the ferrari. But at some other tracks the ferrari may have the edge. Important to point out the bike was on full slicks
@supercop46 next year it could be possible to see him on ducati
what needs?
All right then ...
One way or another , Italia magistra vitae !!!
when you hear a ferrari v8 you will never forget that sound :D
WHERE IS THE STIG?
I got a better race for them, how about Micheal Neeves on the desmo vs Valentino Rossi in lap times on the desmo. Then the ferrari driver vs a proffesional car racer, then compaire the time differences on both car and bike with good riders. My money would be on the bike even if I were racing it with its insane power and handling. I rekon they should do a few more races but on different tracks to get a better comparison. Well done Mike for showing the truth.
