    I have a bit of an issue with the closing statement...
    YES, it does take someone like Steve Rapp to get those lap times from the Ducati...
    But Mr. Bell is not "your average Joe" either!!
    Of course, the Ferrari has a bunch of stuff that "helps" any driver be 'better' than their natural skill level... but let's see "average Joe" do a full-power 4-wheel drift, and change gears in the middle...or even know that he should change gears at that moment...
    All told, with BOTH vehicles being piloted by top-level professionals... this WAS a "fair fight". The only thing not contested, where the car would have the advantage, was top speed on a long open road. There, the Ferrari would take the Ducati...eventually...if the road was long enough...
    And, of course, I would LOVE to have them BOTH sitting in my garage, waiting for me to "exercise them" on a regular and frequent schedule... (-:

      From experince as a avid fan of racing and having both fhe fortune of trackimg supercar and superbike the dfference between a skill is imense for a bike in terms of sheer pace a pro rider to a skiled enthusaist and a noob is night and day a pro can cut about 15seconds of from a skilled enthusaist and a enthusaiat can cut a full min off from the noob while cars are much closer the difference between say chris harris and vetell maybe 5s seconds the differene between a bike presenter/reviewer and rossi maybe 15 seconda a lap for car ita quite easy to get within 90 percent of the best driver but its far harder to get near the same pace as the best rider and bike are very scary and they can cost you dearly if you go beyond your skill limits while car are far more forgiving

    • @An0niem4
      @An0niem4 4 роки тому +1

      We have to repeat this test with both a rider and driver who've had their license for something like a year. I'm convinced that the rider would still stand a fair chance, simply due to the fact that most bikers are often more enthusiastic and skill-oriented

    No matter how many times a bike beats a car, car fan boys will always be mad. If a car beats a bike the bike guys will be mad. What you cant argue with is a bike takes way more skill to ride. Anyone who knows how to drive a can go buy a 100,000 dollar sports car if they have the money and drive it fast. If you can drive a car fast doesnt mean you have the skill to drive a bike fast.

    • @Gullett38

      nyuki187 yup. It does depend on what bike you have though for comfort. I rode my dads V-strom 1000 and its like a couch. My Cbr 600 isnt to bad but after 2 or 3 hours your ass hurts

    • @nyuki187
      @nyuki187 9 років тому +1

      bike comfort veries, true, like the shitty sit of a 883 sportster or a king chair of a CBX-750. but i'm talking about the comfort of a hot day and a rainy day (which account for most of year), when you just get into your car, turn the AC accordingly, turn up the music and pick up your girl while it rains heavily with your/her bags in the back seat, all while staying dry, smelling nice, making it possible to go on a date any time, anywhere. i rode bikes all year, nothing comes close to a comfort of a car,

    This argument will rage on for years. Some like bikes some like cars. There both great. Im a bike fan as I ride on the road and hate traffic, but my wife would rather be in a super car going slow so that people can look at her. Ive never been beaten by a car on a ride through london but I wouldnt like to ride in a stock car race either. The moral is you can never compare bikes and cars as they are just not the same. To sumerise girls like cars and men like bikes!

    • @pascalmpower7944
      @pascalmpower7944 10 років тому

      Cars will beat bikes so easier if they have similar power to weight ratio, caterham can defeat ducati by 13 seconds with 50bhp/tone less , the Ducati ran 10s 1/4mile the new Nismo GTR ran 9.3s stock gtr ran 10s. Has u ever herd Supra or Turbo Supra?

    • @pascalmpower7944
      @pascalmpower7944 10 років тому

      What can't I compare, supercars>superbikes. GTR have 600less hp in p/w ratio still the ducati lead only 3 seconds ahead, The caterman have a pretty close power to weight ratio as ducati, then the car lead the bike for 13 seconds. CARS 1 BIKES 0

    • @andrewmillwardwatford9410
      @andrewmillwardwatford9410 10 років тому

      Watford to croyden bike every time car never. Bike to any where any time bike every time. Get real no match if you select the criteria. Some times cars are better some times bikes. There not the same so dont compare.

      There is: Who work batter. In race, car get speed at straight lots of grip at corners not easy to die for a connection.
      Road going, car is safer, more efficient. There is many way to compare so just do it.

    Cars vs. bikes...they both have their place, we love 'em! Unfortunately most of us will never have the chance to experience a car like the Ferrari, but the Ducati is much more accessible!
    I would prefer the commentary without the tired, chauvinistic "Italian supermodel" analogy

    • @SpyderRios

      No car comes close to the sensation of riding a bike.

    • @MrPainfulTruth
      @MrPainfulTruth 8 років тому +6

      +SpyderRios Thats the simple truth. I've done both and while the supercar makes heads turn (not everyone likes that), it isnt close of a sensation to put the pedal to the metal than it is to open the throttle so wide that you feel its going to throw you right off the ride. The brutal acceleration of a liter bike (or above) is something noone can understand from watching videos.

      for and suv or a luxury saloon yes but the whole point of getting a supercar is to feel the rush and excitement and no supercar will ever feel as exciting as bike even if a car is faster 300 kph on a car feels nothing like 300 on a bike

    Lots of comments on here make it obvious to see that a lot of people don't understand the dynamics of 4 and 2 wheel vehicles around a race track. Production performance bikes (like an R1 or Ducati 1198) will always match and usually beat production supercars round a track with a large number of corners. On a fast oval track (like a NASCAR oval), the cars will probably edge it because the car carries a faster corner speed and has better aerodynamics, and a bike can't use it's superior acceleration as much
    Race super bikes will likewise beat race prepped super cars.
    HOWEVER, when you add wings to cars to generate large down-force, they will blow any bike into the weeds.
    An F1 car is some 20 seconds (yes, 20 SECONDS!!) faster a lap than a Moto-GP bike.
    Using wings, you could probably build a car that was much faster round a track than the ferrari in this video (and the bike), for less than half the cost.
    As for which is more fun... definitely bikes! I used to race them ...

      Depends on the track/car - on longer/faster tracks (e.g.: Spa, Nurburgring) an average production 1000cc bike will be faster than most supercars. Either way bikes provide a much bigger bang for the buck, but require much more specialist skill to go at comparable speeds.

      SCARFACE if your taking the laferrari against a Ducati then you also have to take the top of the range bike. The 1299 and 1299s are both more street oriented. The 1299r or superleggera are the top of the range 'street legal' track focused bikes. I think it depends on the circuit to be honest. In braking zones the car can make up a lot of time as well as mid corner when the bike is less stable. The bikes speed is in its acceleration and direction changes

    • @patthonsirilim5739
      @patthonsirilim5739 6 років тому +1

      1299s panigale is at least 3 second a lap quicker then the 1198s im not sure laferrari is 7 second faster then 458 on willow springs that how much it has to be faster to beat a new panigale and anyway the 1299s is not even the fastest one there the 1299 superleggera or a h2r /hp4 race if your gonna bring the most expensive hypercar you better compare it to a hyper bike a 1299 is more or less a 458/488 in the ferrari tree of hierarchy and ducati aren't even the fastest superbike maker to be honest

  • @SDkawi6
    @SDkawi6 11 років тому

    @Paul G the busa is faster is because it has more cylinders than the Ducati. Ducati is a v twin. So needs more cc to have the power of the other 1000cc bikes.. Another example is the 3 Cylinder Triumph 675cc competes with 600cc inline 4s. Hope that answers your question.

    I love cars, I did a Tial Sport Stage 3 Twin-Turbo kit in my 2001 S4. Which is my weekend car since I drive a nice 2500 Dodge 4 door as my daily now.
    Last summer I picked up the regular 1198 (not the S). It almost makes me not care about cars anymore. My brother sold his Lamborghini, since after I got my bike he got one too, and also picked up a 1198S version. We use to ride motocross etc.
    Riding isn't safe like a car but you can't beat the Performance:Price ratio.

    I have read some of the most inane comments ever for this video. Calling the Ferrari a POS, then comparing the Ferrari 458 with a Hayabusa, and finally how a Ferrari will get you chicks for example. The truth? Ferrari owners don't buy Ferrari's to get girls, Ferrari's are not a POS, and I have never me anyone who seriously said they would rather have a Hayabusa over Ferrari. Despite what many think, you don't have to be rich to afford a Ferrari (although it helps) some very nice models are affordable by normal people.

      warner735 so true, I was completely into cars before I ever got on a bike. Had a really nice 300zx that I spent a shit ton of money restoring and modding until it was just how I wanted it. Then got introduced to riding, sold the car, got a bike, and never looked back. Anyone who prefers a car has prolly never felt that feeling of leaning over close to the pavement and catapulting out of a corner

    You are right, so in that sense I stand corrected. I just sold my Ducati Monster recently, and although they don't make them like they used to, it was still a nice-ish bike. A friend of mine who works at Ducati in their development team said that modern dukes are basically "sushi wrapped in pizza" these days. I thought it quite funny.

    These car vs bike things are all about the rider, Steve Rapp is a "retired" superbike racer and now Ducati development rider. Best of the best. Most anyone else would have lost to the Ferrari, cars usually win these things on the road course. But machine wise? The only things faster than bikes? F1 cars post faster lap times than MotoGP bikes, but even then GP bikes out accelerate the cars and hold the top speed records on the same tracks. F1 has 24in tires vs a credit card sized contact patch...

People do the best they can with what they have! Not everyone can afford a Veyron or anything down that alley. And people still do idolize race cars.

    Why not, just because its unfeasible it's not impossible. You win a competition, the prize is either the Ferrari or a Superbike for example. Maybe you could also tell that to the numerous racing drivers and riders that have had that exact thing happen to them also? You could have a very wealthy family, get you a ferrari for your birthday when you get your license. Whether you think it's obsolete (bad choice of descriptive), doesn't matter, that's clearly what the poster meant.

    hmm, no, it's factual, Ducati were the first to succesfully use the layout on a sports machine in the early 70's, they were also responsible for several other innovations in motorcyling history thanks largely to Fabio Taglioni, namely, the Desmodromic valves allowing higher rev limits, the bevel drive, using the motor as a stressed member years before the competition, mass centralisation before the term existed, strong and light trellis frame.

    The greatest thing about this is that the Ducati 1198S isn't even the fastest superbike. If they did this comparison test with an HP4 or a ZX-10r, they'd be so ashamed to have spent their whole lives thinking cars are such great performance machines.

Bikes are modified to though.. But nothing to crazy we cant do in our own garage.. I heard the record is 1:15.8 still looking for it though. And this track is the same technical version in this video.. They have a larger track they use these days.. weird if you ask me.. I like the smaller one..

  • @britishbikes12

    Bikes do not race @ the Ring. This track is not anomalous regarding the lap time disparity. MT chose this track to favor the car, since the tight layout would negate the 1198's accelerative advantage. A faster track like Big Willow would probably give another second to the bike, as it has in the past when it was included in similar tests.

    At launch, bikes are limited by their high centers of mass and short wheelbases which cause wheelies. Cars don't have that limitation, so their limitation is a notch higher: traction. Because of this, I also tend to think that a supercar should launch faster. However, every time I've seen a professional car vs bike drag race, the bike launched faster, much to my surprise. The 458 is on a good surface and uses launch control. That is indicative of an maximally effective launch here.

    In the performance world, yes it is. In the luxury world, it still is.
    The simple fact is the only reason you buy a Veyron is because you can. You buy it because it costs $2,400,000+.
    Here's why: a $400,000 Rolls Royce or Maybach makes the Veyron look like a trailer-park when it comes to luxury. They ride much quieter and softer, and have more luxuries in then than yours and my house combined.
    And performance?
    Venom GT, SSC, Koenigsegg, 9FF, UGR, AMS...all these make Veyron look like a Civic

  • @HtnLvrJr

    It's not like motorcycles are actually faster than cars. Top speed, most of the time the exotics having a great top speed but weight helps the bike out tremendously. Bikes are lightning fast on take off because they weigh also 2000 pounds lighter than a car. Put those two on the Florida turnpike and any straight road longer than a mile, the 458 will catch it. I'll give the 458 close to a mile and a half and he will walk the bike.
    Because when the Bike hits full speed, the 458 is still going.

  • @britishbikes12
    @britishbikes12 11 років тому

    The main test, which you seemed to have missed, took place on a 13 turn 1.8 mile road course. Also your theory of European super handling does not hold water, because several 600cc bikes went faster than the AMERICAN Zr1 and Z06 which went faster than the EUROPEAN 458... And the cars have very similar power to weight ratios and 1/4 mile times to the 600cc bikes. So I guess the bikes were getting there with handling, huh, smart guy?

    The bike still won by a landslide in the drag race....and it's not surprising that the bike really exploded after it got over 60 mph. The rider couldn't even crank the throttle w/o feathering the clutch until he could keep the front end down. The drag race was the only chance the Ferrari had....surprised it wasn't closer. On an actual road course race track, with a good rider, that car doesn't even come close to beating a 1000cc Sportbike

  • @britishbikes12
