Micky was a guitarist who learned to play the drums at a professional level. As someone who attempted to do the same and failed miserably, I applaud him!
Dolenz, Jones, Boyce and Hart sing the songs that make your heart smile. It just doesn't get any better than this. Bet you find yourself singing right along with them.
That was fabulous! The four of them were fantastic together. Boyce and Hart....they had it going on. What talent it is, to write songs like that. Davy and Mickey were pure magic.
Wow this is awesome! Micky's natural talents are really on display here. It's great hearing them just sitting on chairs with a guitar and busting out all these songs!
Even though this record was really big bummer except for the single. Seeing these guys together really make you realize that there was something really intriguable to the singers and the song writers. Thank you.
Too bad we didn't have television shows like this today. I miss the fun and innocence of yesteryear. I remember coming home from school, Grandma would have Dinah Shore on while she was cooking us dinner; what a great show! I love this, I'm favoring Micky, he's so cute, fun and animated. Some of these songs are giving me chills!
I remember holding a microphone up to the tv and making an audio cassette recording of this, and snapping pictures from the screen with a Polaroid camera...sigh...I listened to that recording many times and this was great to see again! These guys were TALENTED.
I did the same thing with all sorts of TV shows. I also found these old cassettes of mine and had them transferred over to digital by one of the companies you can find through GroupOn. what was really fun as I could hear my voice and my sisters voice when we were about 10 and seven years old.
LOL! I used to do the exact same thing! Record music off the tv with my cassette recorder and take pictures (usually of Charlie's Angels😁) with my Polaroid! I did discover that you had to cover the flash with your hand otherwise the light reflected off the TV screen and you ended up with a giant white blob in the middle of your picture!
Love the 70's music , when music was sooooo dreamy and from the heart ❤️. I was 14 years old at the end of the 70's and I can remember crying watching the new years eve rock and roll show on tv , even at that age , I realized how special the music was from the decade and I felt so sad inside when the 70's came to an end .
I do recall watching this I was 19 or 20 when this aired on tv !! I loved it still do love my Davy always will Micky is so funny Davy was so cute handsome and I go bongo over Davy Ill Love Davy Forever
Thank you to those who posted this wonderful, priceless, episode! It shows the absolute best of these fabulous musicians - all their creativity, talent, humor, and resilience; each of them contributed uniquely and significantly to American music history. Davy Jones had an incredible, delightful personality and an alluring voice; he knew how to bring his audience to life just by singing and smiling.
Son lo máximo.los amo❤❤❤❤❤ no tienen comparacion. Mis Monkees por siempre, siempre lo llevare en mi corazon. Como me gustaría ver la serie de the Monkees.😢😢😂😂😂❤
I still pull out my DJB&H LP every couple of years or so. Great music. And the tour was very successful as well. Had a great time drinking with Mickey after he and David played Colonial Downs.
I have met Micky 2 timesAs recently as a year ago in 2019 in a bar in the villages Florida I couldn’t believe it I’m sitting right next to him I was like you have got to be kidding me I’ve got a picture somewhere but I can’t seem to add them to the
Seeing Chet Atkins on the couch with DJBH is so cool. I remember watching this when it first aired and forgot the guitar great was also on the show. Fantastic stuff.
Dirk Diggler Yeah, unfortunately he thought that’s what people wanted to see because of the show. I definitely preferred it when he took the music seriously and toned down the comedy.
I have memories of watching the Monkeys on Saturday mornings. Back then every Saturday morning, I was glued to the TV on that day. I never missed The Monkeys. The show was kinda silly but I was really young and didn't see it that way then. I just now googled to find out when it aired. 1966. I was born in 1959 which would make me 7 years old. If anyone reads this and understands they must be my age. At that age, I didn't have money and I didn't care. I had good parents and I had what I wanted. I know these are just memories but I sure do miss being that young and having no worries. Life was so simple and fun.
These guys were good. Back in the 70's when I first heard about them I did not give them much thought. I thought it was just more Monkee Hokum, but I was wrong.
Too bad people just didn't care about these guys making music in the USA. Those harmonies were amazing....and Mr. Jones voice is like butter. Amazing how a reputation 10 years later can still haunt them, after all the crap they went through, and what amazing music they were part of. Funny how most of their music now is considered incredibly produced pop and rock, with some serious psychedelia (Head and parts of Pieces, Aquarius ) though then it was kiddie pop to much of the critics.
The guys who wrote the hit songs and the guys who sang the hit songs. An unbeatable combination performing the compositions that literally re-wrote Rock and Roll History. It just doesn't get any better than this.
Too bad music today isn’t as good as the music back then!!! Such good music in the 70’s, I miss it so, ahhh but wait I’m still listening to it!!! Love the memories it brings back, such good times; wish I had known then just how good they really were. Young, feeling good, having fun, falling in love........but then we all get older and so many changes....... in the music, not feeling so good, not looking so good, so many friends, family & musicians from then gone, wrinkles, gray hair, achy creeky bones..........& music that sucks!
I remember seeing this originally. It seemed that the Monkees became defunct in the 10 years since their show first aired (1966) and this was an attempt by the only 2 original Monkees who were willing to work with each other to come back to the public memory again. Decades later Davy himself said that he should have gone back to being a jockey than trying to revive the Monkee's name and heyday
@LMartinez The Monkees have had many tours but rarely as the original 4. The last tour with all of them together was 1997. But there have been quite a few tours with 2/4 or 3/4 of them performing. Mike was the one who didn't do Monkees tours as much until after Davy died when he toured with Peter and Micky. Quite a bit of footage here on UA-cam
Oh Lovely Jane Fonda, who looks like she stepped off the set of 'Fun with Dick and Jane', but the Monkees (Davey, Mickey, Boyce & Hart) appeared at DisneyLand on July 4th of 1976, it was a very hot summer day, as i recall. Coicidentally, People Magazine has a article about the "Beatles potentially reuniting for $1 million to each member", along with a nice article about a Bearded Hippy looking "Monkee, Peter Tork" working as a music teacher at a private school.
WHATTTTT!! Davy did a Disney movie? What movie was that? And I really did the acoustic Last Train and Pleasant Vally!!! Too bad they didn't sing something with Dinah, maybe one of her old hits would have been groovy.
Wild ! Live yet they can still sing perfectly, not like nowadays with computers hiding the flaws. These guys, all four and maybe a side note of Carol King, Hart, Boyce, Neil Diamond should be in the Hall of Fame !! I do like the photo of the Monkees smoking weed with the Beatles lol
Yeah, that's Mike's way of playing it, this is Micky's. Each player will do it whichever way that's comfortable for their playing with the song. I'm sure somebody else hits it on another key as well for their own ease at playing.
Watching them again now on Antenna TV, I like the music bits much better than the nonmusical comedy bits, for the most part. I wish that Rhino would have done a DVD compilation of just the musical bits from all the episodes.
Heartwarming to see Davy and Micky's brotherly friendship on full display. Miss Davy, Peter and Mike. Hang on Micky!
Micky was a guitarist who learned to play the drums at a professional level. As someone who attempted to do the same and failed miserably, I applaud him!
Velvety harmonies, powerful songs, wonderful memories. Oh, those beautiful guys.
Hearing the Acoustic version of those songs. It is so good! Love these 4
Wish a guy could see what chords he’s playing for pleasant valley Sunday.
I watched it but i was 20 yrs old at the time im 61 now and loved Davy jones since I was 11 yrs old
Always love ❤️ Davy Jones forever more
❤️😘🥰😀😇😍🙏

Wow Micky's acoustic rendition of P V Sunday is awesome.. almost appears that Dinah want sing along with Micky!
I remember holding a microphone up to the tv and making an audio cassette recording of this, and snapping pictures from the screen with a Polaroid camera...sigh...I listened to that recording many times and this was great to see again! These guys were TALENTED.
Yep! I recorded it also! Still have it on cassette, but it doesn’t play so well now!!! Lol
I did the same thing with all sorts of TV shows. I also found these old cassettes of mine and had them transferred over to digital by one of the companies you can find through GroupOn. what was really fun as I could hear my voice and my sisters voice when we were about 10 and seven years old.

Micky is so multi-talented and seems like a great person
What a great memory and show. The Monkees are awesome. Back then and eternally!
I was a Monkey addict. My life just flashed before my eyes. An amazing find.
Monkey help with beatle decline late 1960s outsold the beatles one year
I remember this on tv back then being 6 yrs old at the time , if it wasn't for UA-cam I definitely wouldn't have remembered 😎
Love the 70's music , when music was sooooo dreamy and from the heart ❤️.

❤️ 1970s music ;;greatest music ever made
Haha, I love Hart's sweater :) Rest in peace Tommy Boyce, Dinah Shore, and Davy Jones
I do recall watching this I was 19 or 20 when this aired on tv !! I loved it still do love my Davy always will Micky is so funny Davy was so cute handsome and I go bongo over Davy Ill Love Davy Forever
I was 10 then and totally agree!!
I love you David Jones ! 😍❤️😘❤️😘

i worked with Bobby in the 80s engineering a record. He is such a great guy! It was a lot of fun!
Micky antics just leave me in tears!!LOL!!!!
So cool to see this!!! Thank You Suzanne!!
Real singers ..not like the auto tuned ones of today
Tiene toda la razón, eso cantante de ahora la mayoría no sirve ..
LOVE this video, ahh it makes me happy! I really enjoy your channel and seeing all this awesome rare stuff. (especially when Davy is in it) Thanks!
I have met Micky 2 timesAs recently as a year ago in 2019 in a bar in the villages Florida I couldn’t believe it I’m sitting right next to him I was like you have got to be kidding me I’ve got a picture somewhere but I can’t seem to add them to the
Priceless !!!!!!
I knew Boyce & hart were talented but wow! Combined with Micky and Davy super duper
Colleen Robinson Davy WAS cool. The way he dressed--classy. He was a gentleman too. Everything you could want in a man, and born for the stage too!
Thank you, never saw this before!
mickey could have been a stand comic, just a natural ..
Pat Brennan He is funny in real life too...I got to hang with him and Davy several years ago...what a blast!
The natural way to spell his name is Micky.
Bob Davis I like it better his way!!! And as with lots of names the spelling had serveral different ways to do.
Seeing Chet Atkins on the couch with DJBH is so cool. I remember watching this when it first aired and forgot the guitar great was also on the show. Fantastic stuff.
davey and Mickey both had unique voices
thanks for this! i remember wanting to stay home from school to watch it. (i was 10.)
Awesome, just incredibly AWESOME! Love it!
Mickey unplugged on guitar Pleasant VAlley Sunday is amazing
Dirk Diggler Yessss! So true! Real Musicians & Singers & so good!!!!!
Dirk Diggler Yeah, unfortunately he thought that’s what people wanted to see because of the show. I definitely preferred it when he took the music seriously and toned down the comedy.

This is a keeper, thank you so much for posting this :)
You can really see how Micky and Davy were like brothers 16:19
RIP Davy 💜💜💜💜💜
I love you guys with all my heart ❤️
So much fun to play guitar and sing.
I know where I'm going to visit when the time machine gets invented.
"Everyone skate backwards!" LOL!
Hey mom, no auto tune! These guys could sing and entertain.
"Everyone skate backwards" LMAO!!!!!!!!
Line of the century. MIckey is truly a gifted funnyman.
Is this because there were roller discos in those days and they would have played this song there?
These guys were good. Back in the 70's when I first heard about them I did not give them much thought. I thought it was just more Monkee Hokum, but I was wrong.
"Everyone skate backwards!" hahahaha
is a good song ppl still sing it today
"Everyone, skate backwards!" ;) Aw, I can see it.
That was entertaining 😊
Peter Tork was the most trained musician in the Mon kees
This is awesome!
Thank you.
Was good to see Davy!

Everyone skate backwards! Hahaha
davey wanted to get up and dance...what kept holding him back?
It seems like the goal was to put the focus on all four of them vs just him. I do think they all wanted to get up.
Dinah had such a light voice. Lovely anyway.
The guys who wrote the hit songs and the guys who sang the hit songs. An unbeatable combination performing the compositions that literally re-wrote Rock and Roll History. It just doesn't get any better than this.

THey were groovy
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.......great

I dunno, if memory serves me well, each comeback was successful, especially the one in the mid 80's.
He did go back to being a jockey. He won some, too. If I heard correctly, he exercised a horse the morning he died.
Davey always had a passion for the horses.! But the money to upkeep came from the monkeys, whether he liked it or not.
@LMartinez The Monkees have had many tours but rarely as the original 4. The last tour with all of them together was 1997. But there have been quite a few tours with 2/4 or 3/4 of them performing. Mickle always the clown funny as ever
Diana Shore so sweet
we sure dressed crazy back then.
larkatmic No you dressed awesome!!
Red Sonja I loved the clothes from the 70’s still love them!!!
Just imagine,if Micky and Robin Williams were to have their own production. High, zany energy.
Imagine a 90 minute daytime talkshow now where celebreties are participating in a spelling contest.
Love Davy Jones and Mickey Dolenz🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Not funny about the Monkees not all of them can properly did it anyway so there
Yeah, that's Mike's way of playing it, this is Micky's. Each player will do it whichever way that's comfortable for their playing with the song. I'm sure somebody else hits it on another key as well for their own ease at playing.
Wow, Micky Dolenz and Elizabeth Taylor.
way to go Mickey I always liked u,now I know why
I know that this might be konstrued as krazy, but sometimes I think that Eddie Van Halen looks like Micky.
i've noticed the same thing... it's the weird teeth line, the way they curve upwards in the middle...
Yeah I see it.
@@aubreykrendale4266 I would like people to congratulate me on how observant and insightful I am for this.
Well stranger than that, I think the boy from “Stranger Things” looks like Mickey, a lot like him!!!!
@@dianeoliver9041 Interesting! But doesn't "Stranger Things" have many boys in the cast?
this is good stuff
Even in 1976 Davy was still super cute. What the heck is Micky wearing?
Watching them again now on Antenna TV, I like the music bits much better than the nonmusical comedy bits, for the most part. I wish that Rhino would have done a DVD compilation of just the musical bits from all the episodes.

Where's Mr. Schneider?
That's really great footage. Umm Peter Jackson, can you clean tv's as well as bugs(Beatles)up? :D
What's the movie for Disney Davy's referring to?
The Bluegrass Special, 1977
Kayla D. Hey, I’d like to know that too, I never knew he did a Disney Movie either. If you find out let me know, please.
I always said in the Monkees Mickey should have been on guitar, because doggone it that is what he was, a guitarist.
Yeah he’s my brotherrrrrr....
What disney movie did davy jones do?
The last song they were singing the sound kept fading in and out other wise good video
Who was the brunette sitting next to Dinah?
Did the songwriters perform with the guys on stage? Like a group, in concert? X
Dolenz Jones Boyce and Hart did tour. Saw them in Chicago circa 1976
THAT MICKY thats all im gonna say
