But you must realize that there are many of us who only survived our abusive childhoods because David was there every Monday night at 7:30. That sort of connection will remain till my dying day. Had it not been for him I doubt I'd see today. 1 year later, RIP our sweet David. You'll be remembered forever.
❤i was born in 68 ,my parents were hippies big time but they were also worshipping the ground these guys walked ,I was raised into it I could say😅 Never missed a show
Came across this because I am a True Monkees Fan!!! Davy is gorgeous and I was 13 years old when they came on TV. I will be 68 in 19 days and still love them. I am a big kid at heart and my kids get the biggest kick out of me dancing to their tunes. RIP Davy and Peter and thank you for my childhood memories!!!
As long as we can go back and observe any great artist who has passed on, they'll never be truly dead. Whether there's an afterlife or not, at least with being creative gives you that opportunity to be apart of eternity in the sense that you've left behind something truly great.
Congratulations on still being here ☺️. Not everyone makes it 🙏🏿 I wanted to marry Davy so much as a kid. Unfortunately, I wasn't born till 1980. One of the saddest things ever x
Beautiful tribute for a beautiful man. It doesn't seem possible he has been gone 2 years now. He is not forgotten ever and he will live on forever. I grew up with him at age 13 years old and watched every show when they came on in 1966. I was in so much love with him. I am 61 now and still love him and the other boys, Mike, Micky and Peter. I am so proud of the rest of the guys for keeping Davy's spirit alive, his songs and their dedication for their brother, friend and band mate. They miss him just as much as the rest of us. Thank you for posting this and seeing Davy performing makes me sad and teary eye that is for sure because this is my childhood memories and I will always cherish them.
Mike said at one time " We shouldn't have been called the Monkees" but Davy Jones and his bad he was loved so much. He said this as a compliment to his Buddy. God bless them, they are both gone.
Not when you know them personally, You know you will never see or talk with them on this earth again. All you have is the memories of happier times spent with that person, this you will cherish forever but it's not the same. It hurts to look at these videos of David moving around singing knowing he gone. I miss my friend David Jones dearly and yes it's very painful to see this. I spoked with David 2 days before he died. I told him I was looking forward to seeing him again he died 2 days later.
Somehow I don’t think he would want you to be sad seeing this. He brought a lot of joy to a lot of people and not just through his music. He was meant to be an entertainer but more than that I think he was a genuinely good person. Look at how his 4 children turned out and how they adored him. So many of us would have liked to have a friendship with him. Be grateful that you did.
This was taped at Magic Mountain in Los Angeles. It was part of a syndicated TV special called "Scapbook of the 60's. I was at the concert. Davy did the three Monkees songs twice, then did songs with his back up band, "Toast".
Davy wasn't even my favorite Monkee(Micky was), but I couldn't help but get a little choked up watching this. R.I.P. Davy. We will always miss you and remember you. Thanks for bringing so much joy into our lives.
After the Monkees ended he was thrown to the wolves. He had such a hard time. It makes me cry how he was treated. Rip my gorgeous little Monkee 😞😢 love you so much. Thank you for making my teens so amazing🥰
Only decades later after the 1960s and 1970s, and well after a horrible music form called Rap has taken over the music scene do you look back at videos like this and realize how magical it all was
Rap started in the 70s and evolved as people looked for ways to express themselves. It's not my thing, but I don't begrudge it. Worse now are the horrible tuneless songs where people can't seem to find the note they want, and fix it all anyway with auto tune because they can't sing. But yes, Davy captured some classics.
I seen the monkee's in concert in 1987. 9 years later. davy waved to me from the tour bus. he was sitting in the driver's seat. he should have came out. I would have loved a hug from him then. I did not get my hug until 25 years later. jan28th 2012.
Era un ser maravilloso , cercano y humilde. Lo ame desde que lo vi en televisión siendo una niña. Su recuerdo perdurará por siempre con su hermosa sonrisa.
Just another fact. The announcer & producer of this special was Stu Rosen. He was the star of a popular 70's children's show called "Dusty's treehouse". I remember people yelling out to him at the taping. If you know the show, Stu is the man announcing Davy.
love the monkees then now and forever.they were broth together to make the world shine with peace and love and still are .RIP davy and peter.in are heart forever. still watch them every sat on fetv 9-11 cherish every momnet together. peace and love shine on can you dig it.
+Atsuko Katsuodori Yes!! He was very emotional here!! And I think I know why. It was Tommy Boyce's birthday the day before this was filmed (Sept. 29), and he and Tommy were very good friends!! Tommy Boyce, along with Bobby Hart, wrote "I Wanna Be Free"!! I guarantee you, he was thinking about Tommy, who is no longer with us now, while he was singing this...! And probably Linda too!
He had a brain anurism, which made him rather dependent on others - and he was probably also suffering depression because of it. He didn't want to be a burden to anyone. So he took his own life with a gun.
Maybe Tommy Boyce in Sept 1979 was experiencing a lot of difficulty. According to Wikipedia, in 1979 Boyce was touring in his own band named The Tommy Band, and it was a flop. In fact, the band even went to the UK, but no one came to the concerts, except in Middlesbrough where only one person showed up. Pretty sad.
OMG this video was great. Classic 70's right on down to the chick smoking and "Queen" like audience members. LMAO. Loved the "I wanna be free" performance.
Of course. But at the same time, those who have never known the man personally, but have in some deep way been moved by the music of somebody passed on, this is the best we're ever gonna get. I meant no disrespect for grieving friends. I was speaking from the point of view of a casual fan and somebody who has only recently discovered their music due to being born in the wrong decade.
DAVY JONES * 1945 + 2012 INFELIZMENTE EM 2012 DAVY SOFREU UM ATAQUE CARDÍACO FULMINANTE QUE VEIO CEIFAR SUA VIDA.DESCANSE EM PAZ DAVY..THANK YOU.SÃO PAULO. 7/9/2020
Cool! Davy Jones changed the lyrics (0:34) by singing this: ". . . O I could hide 'neath the wings of the bluebird as IT sings . . ." In the other songs, the bluebird is referred to as a "she." In the world of biology, the male birds are the ones doing the singing in order to attract the female birds' attention. The female bird chooses its mate by judging how well the male bird sings. Kinda sad for those other birds who aren't good singers. :/
But you must realize that there are many of us who only survived our abusive childhoods because David was there every Monday night at 7:30. That sort of connection will remain till my dying day. Had it not been for him I doubt I'd see today. 1 year later, RIP our sweet David. You'll be remembered forever.
I have heard that
@Donna Green Davy sang some of the songs that Mickey sang. And he did a good job singing those songs too.
Thank you Davy for helping me through a chaotic childhood.
So true!! For me too
❤i was born in 68 ,my parents were hippies big time but they were also worshipping the ground these guys walked ,I was raised into it I could say😅 Never missed a show
Some people just spread sunshine and Davy was one of them.
I agree 100% He will always be the sunshine in my life....

What a cutie!Davy was a pure joy to watch and listen to.😊Count me among the "girls" who crushed on him;I'm 53 now,but I still think he was adorable.

In 1979 I was a senior in HS and I thought that Davy Jones was an old man. The truth is he was only 34 years old here and I am now 55.
Yup ..you are pretty old now....
I thought the same and I am 60.
@@bobgil3464 You replied to a comment I made 2 years ago. Unfortunately I am no longer 55 but 57 and will be 58 in June. Ugh.
Congratulations on still being here ☺️. Not everyone makes it 🙏🏿
I wanted to marry Davy so much as a kid. Unfortunately, I wasn't born till 1980. One of the saddest things ever x
Just seeing this for the first time and I love it! What an adorable smile when he finishes singing, "I want to be free"!
Sherri Barbee He was tearing up 💕
My first crush. Such a beautiful face and man🥰

9 years now.
I saw him about 12 times in the last 10 years, and every time he sang I Wanna Be Free, I cried. :-) Loved this man so much.
You. are so lucky.
Mike said at one time " We shouldn't have been called the Monkees" but Davy Jones and his bad he was loved so much. He said this as a compliment to his Buddy. God bless them, they are both gone.
Davy looks great here! There's also something so mature about him, even when he was young.
He was a capricorn. That's the reason why he might've looked so mature.
Self assured. Some adults never are x
Love this!!! I remember this time period so well!! This was recorded at Magic Mountain in Calif. on Sept. 30, 1979!! Davy and his band "Toast"!
Dennis Larden and Jay De Witt White from the Stone Canyon Band.
He's so sexy!
He was absolutely adorable
Now THIS is something rare!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING!!! Who'd have thought we'd have live footage of Davy & Toast?!?
Love Davy He Was My First Crush RIP He Was Beautiful
How could 30 people not like this?
He was so young here! Thanks so much for sharing. What a performer-he will be forever missed. :(
He was 33 here!
OMGOODNESS the first boy band but how talented they are !
Davy was the Paul McCartney of the group. He represented The British Invasion for the group.
Sam Bradley I’d argue that he sounds more like Lennon though on tracks like 99 pounds or Love to Love
he's soooo cute , that I dont even mind that hes wearing a pink shirt!
Yesssss!!!
Real man wear pink
RIP Davy Jones. I loved the Monkees as a child. Now I’m a grandma! LOL!
Beautiful voice .... thanks for showing .... Thank You Davy for your wonderful talent...
I miss you Jones😢😢😢
Me too!...

Amen 😃😘😍
Couldn't have said it better myself!

Yes, I remember this too, and you are absolutely correct! It was on Sept. 30.1979.
Era un ser maravilloso , cercano y humilde. Lo ame desde que lo vi en televisión siendo una niña. Su recuerdo perdurará por siempre con su hermosa sonrisa.

He said " I want to be free", not " I wanna be...". Most emotional, touched video of this song.
I never knew that Tommy Boyce committed suicide. What happened?
Why?
He had a brain anurism, which made him rather dependent on others - and he was probably also suffering depression because of it. He didn't want to be a burden to anyone. So he took his own life with a gun.
That's correct!

Still has his accent here 💕
In fact, never think I've heard it so strong! X
Davy was a very kind loving fun funny kind of guy wish I had been his wife !!

OMG this video was great. Classic 70's right on down to the chick smoking and "Queen" like audience members. LMAO. Loved the "I wanna be free" performance.

is it possible to make a clock of their songs........classic as you know
Like when George Harrison passed & it was the final nail in the Beatle coffin, Peter Tork's passing is the final nail in the Monkee coffin.
He's only 34 years old right here
33. His birthday was December 30th.

This is not the original Monkees...It is Davy Jones though...
He was so great that David Bowie had to change his name.
A mullet years before they were n style!
was actually 79 in fact
Can see here who the key member of Monkees was.
Thanks so much for cutting ✂️ the video off!! Title should say 3 1/2 songs. Really?...
How come none of his other performances are like the music vid ?
i wish i knew who you were you knew him personally.
Last Song Gets cut
