I taped this show on my cassette recorder. Along with Dinah Shore, American Bandstand, and Rock Concert. Still have the cassettes, but they haven’t faired very well over the years.
Original air date February 27th, 1976. Season 14, episode #130 - Mike Douglas Show. Laverne & Shirley premiered just a month prior, on the ABC network January 26, 1976. It became an immediate hit and would air until 1983. Cindy Williams passed away on January 25, 2023, age 75. Tommy Boyce 11/23/94 aged 55, Davy Jones 2/29/2012 aged 66, Peter Tork 2/21/19 aged 66, and Michael Nesmith 12/10/21 aged 78.
~ February 27, 1976 ~ Come A Little Bit Closer (Jay & the Techniques) & Peaches & Cream (Ikettes) & (I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone (Monkees) & Keep On Singing (Helen Reddy)~ Great songs all among the hundred Boyce & Hart have written & sung. ~ R.I.P. half the people in this episode of this iconic show ~ Cheers, DAVEDJ ~
*Jay and the Americans ("Come a Little Bit Closer.") Jay and the Techniques was "Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie." I knew of both bands but I was in love with "Jay Black's" voice.
Ah, the 1970s, when everybody mugged for screen time. When was Mike Douglas from Hollywood? I thought it was always Philly? Anyhow, nice to know that (as of this writing) John Byner, Roy Clark, Micky Dolenz, Bobby Hart and Cindy Williams are all still with us.
The show started out in Cleveland and moved to Philadelphia after a couple of years. In the mid-70s, the format lost popularity, so the show was moved to LA in 1978 hoping to resuscitate it. It didn't. The show was cancelled in 1981. This episode was from Feb. '76, so, presumably from Philadelphia.
123ABC, obviously you don't know Micky Dolenz very well. He is an incredible singer not to mention producer and director. Go read up on his background THEN come back and say he is a talentless hack.
Dolenz is an incredible pop singer and John Byner is a master impressionist and funny man.I agree about the talents of Boyce ,Hart and Jones.Obviously, the celebrities there that are not musicians and singers(Cindy and John) are just guests on the show having fun.
Roy Clark might have been more talented than all of them (man in the black hat all the way to the left). He was a fantastic guitarist who could play anything, as well as being a wonderful singer, too. He also was a great comedian. I was surprised he stayed very low key in this clip, although he was obviously enjoying himself.
Davy had a lot of class 👍😍 love you 4ever David Jones ♥♥♥
There's not enough love in this ol' world, so spread your songs around...Thank you, Mike Douglas, for hosting these amazing musicians.
I would give anything to go back to the 60s and 70s

Look at Roy just standing there on the end acting like the adult in the room.
And yet willing to pull John Byner back in from the murky depths....
Mickey and Davy had very distinctive voices. You knew right away who was singing. Great talents.
Boyce/Hart.... So talented! Icons
They were on American Bandstand the next day and Micky wore that same outfit. I remember watching both shows.
Still feeling Davy's loss. And Tommy's. What a terrible loss of talent. Way too soon! So many great songs!
Me, too.
What a great clip with Roy Clark and Cindy Williams too. I Always use to watch the Mike Douglas show after school.
k moyer back when we had good programs on TV unlike the trash that proliferates today.
I was in the military and we got priority tickets for this taping. I'd almost forgotten.
GREAT PEPOLE, GREAT MUSICIAN, GREAT SONG....THEY WILL NEVER BACK TO FILL UP OUR HEART AGAIN . THANK YOU GUYS
Love this!! I think this was during the DJBH days, 1975-1976!
im guessing a little later 1980 maybe, the one guy with the fishing hat has gray hair
Yes, 1976. I taped all of their appearances that summer.
LMAO he fell over haha. I love it. Davys voice
Very fun to watch this and sing along with too!

Roy and Mike also died. John, Mickey and Bobby only are still living from this segment
AND I ALWAYS THOUGHT THERE WAS ONLY ONE DANNY HUTTON. L.O.L.
That was fun and whole lot of silly too.

Also as of May 2024, only Bobby Hart, Micky Dolenz and John Byner are still living. 😕
Wow. This is awesome 😎
I love all the harmonies!

Not sure when the show moved west, but I was at a taping in LA in the summer of '80. George Burns and David Brenner were on.
No big blessing.
Cindy Williams left us a few weeks ago. 😢 Mike Douglas moved his show to California during the last few years that it was on the air.
May, 2024; John Byner, Bobby Hart, Micky Dolenz.

So cool!
Ahhh when Facebook wasnt around.👍👍👍
I love it that's coollll...!!!!!!!
Davey said during one of his interviews that Mickey had a flying pan face. Yes he does.
Skillet Face is what he refers him as in his autobiography.
7:24 keep on singing the last song
Davey got a unibrow going here. Mickey needs an Ativan.
cindy looked so darn cute ..
Classic music and talent
Impressive. Helluva team!
Roy got left out on this arrangement. Great music, glad this is still available to watch. Only John, Bobby and Mickey left from this segment?
1:27: Mike Douglas looks like he really, REALLY needs to race to the bowl for an emergency.
Byner was out of control. Uncalled for jealousy.
5:38 hurt so bad
4:58 pretty angle eyes
0:15 last train to clarksville
0:52 i wanna be free
If like to see this hole clip from the start
2:13 the monkees theme

Oh yeah
4:01 come little bit closer
6:22 peaches and cream
hey is that where they got the beginning of Head from jumping in the water swimming..
6:46 something's wrong with me
Who is it that jumped up on the piano ?
umm..Tommy Boyce....you know ..the guy who was right there the whole time, strumming the guitar?
@@thefallguysrock sorry friend Einstein, I was looking at the 8:05
mark when Tommy Boyce jumps up on the piano.
@@thefallguysrock and so they united, and together they went off to fight crime!
Comedian/ actor John Buber. Sorry ,it’s pretty late for a reply.
@@quad5186 Byner
What year was this done?
1976
0:10 Davy looks so much like David Cassidy here.
I think that is Freddie Prinze
Jesus, could have done without Dolenz, what an insecure mess.
This band could have been successful but I think Dolenz clown act probably killed any respect for the music.
Tommy Boyce, Bobby Hart and Davy Jones are and were incredibly talented. Dolenz and Byner are talentless hacks.
123ABC, obviously you don't know Micky Dolenz very well. He is an incredible singer not to mention producer and director. Go read up on his background THEN come back and say he is a talentless hack.
Dolenz is one of the best pop vocalists of all times. Jones? Not so much.
Dolenz is an incredible pop singer and John Byner is a master impressionist and funny man.I agree about the talents of Boyce ,Hart and Jones.Obviously, the celebrities there that are not musicians and singers(Cindy and John) are just guests on the show having fun.
Micky sang most of the leads of their hits...talentless hack????

Mickey Dolenz is so unfunny and needy, you can’t watch this. Byner insufferable too. The others cool.
It's a shame Mickey ruined those nice moments acting like an idiot. 😢
