SPOOKY DAY COMPARED! Sims 3 vs. Sims 4 Halloween Traditions!

  • In this video, I'm comparing Spooky Day in The Sims 3 vs. The Sims 4! Halloween traditions such as pumpkin carving, trick-or-treating, costume parties, festivals and more! There was so much to cover - especially in The Sims 3! Which one is your favorite?
    I love the fall festivals included in The Sims 3: Seasons expansion. There are so many fun, fall- and spooky-themed activities for your Sims to do. Plus, sending your Sim children trick-or-treating is so much fun! There's admittedly less to do in The Sims 4, and it's kind of sad that you have to pay for cool decorations that you get for free in The Sims 3. But, I do really like the pumpkin carving and spooky parties in TS4.
    Spooky Day is my favorite holiday in real life and in The Sims! And since Spooky Month is finally here, I've got lots more spooky content lined up for you throughout October. Thanks so much for watching!

    If we ignore the fact that to play with the “COMPLETE” spooky stuff in SIms 4 you need to buy 2 Packs, the Spooky celebration has i’ts own charming. But then you look back to all the gameplay in Sims 3, the festivals and ALL the Stuff in one Pack, it’s absolutely Perfect ✨👻

      Also. be VERY Careful about Sims Stomping on LIT Pumpkin Lanterns, as they MAY be lit on Fire for it. and this Fire Behaves as Normal, you have 1 Hour (3 If Daredevil) to Extinguish them before they burn to Death. Mostly because I was partially Expecting Cindy's Sim to Ignite. and her to go "WHA?". it happens lol

    i love the forethought and consideration of their traits making them hesitant to do things!
    like for example, cindy mentioned hydrophobic sims will NEVER autonomously go applebobbing because they don't like water (4:17). childish and coward sims will get spooked out before entering the haunted house (5:57).

      So much better than the Sims 4! I have a lazy mermaid who hates fitness right now, and she will. Not. Stop. Swimming! Her fun is low, so she autonomously goes swimming (she lives in Sulani) but she hates it, so it makes her fun drop lower, and she just won't stop! Sims 3 seems so much better!

    The Sims 4 should've at least let your playable kids go trick-or-treating via rabbit hole, and have them come back with candy in their inventory. Also I used to like apple bobbing as a kid before I realized how gross it is.

  • @lys6295
    @lys6295 2 роки тому +155

    Funnily enough, I live in Germany and it is quite common to let kids go trick or treating on their own, when they are like 8/9. Kids usually do it with their siblings/friends and they know the neighborhood anyway so it is not a big deal.

    • @PleasantSims
      @PleasantSims  2 роки тому +52

      I love that! We never were allowed to go on our own, but we would be dropped at the top of a street and our parents would pick us up at the end, so kind of semi-alone. Today, I don't know anyone who lets their kids go alone in America. It's too bad because it's such a magical time to be a kid!

    • @claraf.6833

      I was gonna say that too! We had an adult accompany us until we were around 9 years old. We went there as a group and had one parent or another adult go with us. The adult usually stayed at the end of the driveway while we rang the doorbell.
      In a safe and close-knit neigborhood it's totally safe for kids to go alone.

    • @kittypink
      @kittypink 2 роки тому +3

      I started just going with my teenage brother when he was sixteen. He doesn't trick or treat anymore, and I'm not doing it alone, so I no longer trick or treat. But I always went with my mom before that, and with my dad when he was available. (I can't believe he would skip out on trick or treating to support the family)

    • @kaiwannagoback5712
      @kaiwannagoback5712 2 роки тому +6

      We went Trick-or-Treating of course without adults, starting when I was 4 and my sister was 6. It was simply not done, to have parents accompanying their kids: they were supposed to stay home to give out treats, and children who were toddlers were considered too young to go and were kept home. I believe it was the whole "poisoned candy" urban legend that almost killed Halloween as we knew it, coupled with a societal paranoia about US kids going anywhere or doing anything, without an adult escort, til at least their teens, that took over starting in the 90s. It was commonly believed here that "things are different now" but violent crimes were higher in the 1970s than they are now, but the sensationalist news cycle had parents convinced that it was unsafe to let kids have the same freedom they themselves had enjoyed, to the detriment of all. Hoping the pendulum of public sentiment has shifted toward common sense more now, but parents here still live in fear of some busybody calling the authorities if they let their kids walk to the park or playground unescorted, in some parts of the US, for the fear of whatever worst-case (but nevertheless unlikely) scenario anyone can dream up.

    It's kinda bizarre you need to buy a separate pack to get the full Spooky Day experience in The Sims 4. But I guess that's what The Sims 4 does best. It splits content into a multitude of packs so you have to pay more to have the same features you'd have in one pack in previous games.

    • @gowonsupremacist
      @gowonsupremacist 2 роки тому +46

      it speaks volumes the way both were handled. The Sims 3 was lacking decor for Spooky day, and they released 4 different packs for free to use. On the other hand, Sims 4 sold the accessories even before Seasons was released, and made you make the holiday yourself in Seasons.

    • @adrianblake8876
      @adrianblake8876 2 роки тому +16

      Well, splitting content is not new. LN and Showtime are each one half of the Sims2 NL expansion. Sunlit Tides came before IP, which is the "island" destination of BV, the Sims2 equivalent of WA...
      And we also never got the expansion equivalent for OFB or AL in the Sims3, giving us subpar towns, because we're left with rabbitholes for what other games given us open lots...

I love the animation of sims rummaging through the box and the house gradually getting more festive as you select more decor options. Also now that I have experienced the emotions system, those moodlets don't seem so bad in comparison lol Probably much more valuable than the emotion moodlet I'd get if apple bobbing were in TS4. At least the moodlet hangs around and impacts your sim a bit and gives you satisfaction points, the emotion i'd get would get overwhelmed when they enter a dust free room and give me nothing.

      I have heard of this happening to a lot of people! There is a patch that can make a game work more smoothly (64 bit for PCs by a modder) and there is also a little hack about the save. If you notice your game starting to break or lag due to a large save, you should create a new save file of the same game. It won't be as laggy as it won't save memories!

    I love your sentiment about how safe the Sims world is. That's why I kind of scratch my head at some of the mods people want in their game because most of what I love in the sims is how safe it is. Your pets don't get run over or poisoned, your children don't get kidnapped or abused.

    • @thesimslover82884
      @thesimslover82884 2 роки тому

      The kidnapping/abuse thing is more about ratings and marketing. The Sims 1 had various pet deaths, but death by old age was impossible, as Sims didn't age. I'm okay with it being safe, so long as there is some chaos options as well. The Sims 3 has meteors that can crash down to the ground, and kill Sims. The Sims 2 has a satellite that can also kill Sims. Safe doesn't have to mean totally immune from any disaster. No one's asking for any of that to be in the game, in the first place.

      Glad to know I'm not the only one! Honestly, some of the more extreme "realism" mods out there (such as extreme violence) make me want to puke and/or cry.

    I love this video. You should do it for the other holidays! I've never really played around with the Sims 4 Spooky day, not sure why not. I do wish they could have made it so kids could go trick or treating. They could make it like how they go to school, they go "away" and come back a few hours later with treats or tricks and a moodlet...sorry emotion to match depending on what they got. Not as fun as the SIm 3 but at least something.

  • @DellVanity

    One thing I love about Sims 3's holidays was that you could meet other community members at the festivals! It really makes you feel like there's a community and is a good way to make friends for parties or to potentially find spouses for legacy challenges, playmates for your sims kids, etc. Yeah Sims 4 has people at the random festivals, but it didn't feel particularly like you're celebrating anything as a community.

    I only play Sims 2 and will never stop loving it, but do admit, when it comes to holidays, they really dropped the ball when it comes to providing activities, such as the festivals that I'm seeing here. They look so FUN! I've developed my own holiday fun for my Sims in 2, such as creating haunted houses for Halloween photos and stories. Sure would be nice if the game provided some interaction and had festivals. Thanks for sharing your comparisons - I never knew Sims 3 and 4 had these.

    I'm not super well informed on the whole apple bobbing thing, but to my knowledge it came about from Roman traditions being blended with the pre-Christian Irish holiday Samhain (Sow-ain). This holiday is what Halloween evolved from (Long story). Apples were a religious symbol used in divination by Irish druids. There were a lot of different divination rituals performed during Samhain, many of which were centered around match-making. I think "Bobbing for apples" was one of those types of activities, I think. I remember reading that the apples were strung on strings originally?
    If anyone wants to correct my dumb ass, go for it.

    As a kid in NZ, we would sometimes have a party game that was a take on bobbing for apples. They would be attached to a clothes line with a string though the center and the first person to finish eating their apple with their hands tied behind their backs won.

    The way how TS4 Team did that in game concert and the weekly competitions in Hanford-on-bagley, they could update seasons to include those seasonal festivals from TS3 in TS4, which can happen in Willow Creek. I’m really hoping that this gameplay happens in the refreshes.
