I've gotten several comments suggesting that the items go to family inventory instead of the Sim's personal inventory. They DO NOT go to the family/household inventory when you are not controlling the Sims. Some items go there after purchasing, but only for the active family. I have tested this dozens of times with numerous households. Playables you do not control don't actually buy anything.

When I saw this comment plus reached the part of the video where you discussed this. I WAS SHOCKED!
I had a clothing store, designed the clothes myself so townies can look nicer but now I'm wondering if I should really sell other items other than clothes.
Since items don't go to your inventory (whether personal or household) I guess I should stick to clothes.
Wait! What if its the same issue with clothes?!?

Id suggest speaking with the modders on the Mccc discord. There are so many wonderful and knowledgeable folk there. Also the modder basemental that makes the adult drugs mod has sims who purchase the drugs also use said substances as well in the world. So it may be a lead you could follow up in. best of luck! THIS is why we simmers complain. I'm an OG sims 1 player and I miss little stuff like this. The sims use to be so quirky and chaotic. The Sims 4 is graphicly beautiful, but it's missing a TON small characteristics original to the game and gets boring quick. I liked how I never knew how my sims were going to react to things. Sims 1 characters were funny and a hot mess. Now my Sims barely get mad if they are cheated on.

And I hate being told we need to stop complaining or being "ungrateful". If you've played Sims 1 and 2, you know this game has so much it CAN do (it's made HUGE strides) and seeing Sims 4 go back in such simple ways that impact gameplay a lot, it makes you angry; it's like EA is doing everything we DON'T want when it's so obvious what could fix this entire game (it doesn't take a genius to know). I know people say this is "just a game", but for a lot of people, this has been THEIR game since childhood or teenhood and it holds a place for us. It honestly kind of hurts to see such an amazing game be watered down so much. I've been playing this game since I was 10 when I got Sims 1 and was amazed at how much better this game got each time, but then Sims 4 is just... ugh. It's decent, but it's not what we KNOW it could be.

@depressed cockroach I have no idea if EA was given a smaller budget for TS4 compared to TS2 but I would guess that TS4 has had a larger audience and therefore a larger intake of profits. That being said it's hard to justify not increasing the budget after 6 yrs of steady profit and putting it back into the franchise. Unless, that money is being spent on other things such as maybe The Sims FreePlay, maybe even The Sims 5. That brings me to my next point which is, our money in not going into TS4 and the budget only leaves room to recycle objects with new skins and recycle animations with only adding new moodlets. Yet we will be charged to play TS5 even though we've essentially already paid for it.

I just hate that this game is over 6 years old and it still has no story progression. The lack of items in their inventory that we saw them buy is a product if that! How they ever thought to release a game that had monster progression is beyond me completely. I have played the sims since the original game and I have enjoyed every one. I even enjoyed the sims 4 at first, until I realised how unfinished and messy it is STILL. And as much as I love CC and mods I shouldnt have to use mods on order to play a game. I can play sims 2 and 3 happily without any mods and any I do have simply advance my gameplay or let me control minor things that are tailored to my play style. In sims 4 I cant even touch it without several script mods. Sadly, I dont believe it will ever be fixed.

The only issue i have is only two body types you are stuck with but yeah the game came out so long ago they probably couldn't figure out how to implement body diversity
Build & buy mode is less detailed from 3 & 4 but is still more then enough for regular builders and with some cheats and tricks and cc you can make great builts.
But the thing Sims 2 does best is the gameplay. Gameplay is so rich, personalities actually exist and are very much present in your sim's life. Neighborhoods are full of drama and stories, you can go for scripted events but you can also play as you wish. Not to mention you can make your own neighborhoods. The SIms 4 is purely made for builders and they half-assed every other aspect of the game. They know that objects are the easiest thing to make, so they can pump those out 3-4 times a year to keep the expansion pack income flowing. Its hard to believe that there are so many game-breaking bugs in the game still. And at least base game bugs have a chance of becoming fixed, but if your bug is in an expansion? Good luck. I started playing The Sims with Sims 3, so I can say this without any nostalgia goggles what so ever... the Sims 2 really kicks the Sims 4's ass. I only seriously picked up 2 a few years ago when EA was giving out the Ultimate Collection for free.
It really is the little things for me. Like, when sims cook in 2 they'll open drawers on counters and "pull out" different utensils to cook with rather than manifesting them from thin air. Or the romantic interactions? Compare the stargazing interaction in 2 to the one in 4. In 2 they'll snuggle up next to each other and rest their heads on each others chests and gaze lovingly into each others eyes and in 4 they just... lie flat on the grass near each other. I guess "underwhelming" would be the right term for 4. Sims 2 just has so much more life and personality.
The main reason to play 4 over 2 is the vastly improved CAS (seriously I love the ability to swap masculine/feminine clothing preferences and gender and the like on the fly), the abundance of CC, and the improved build/buy mode. That's literally it, though. If I could get a mod that put 4's CAS, CC, and Build/Buy mode into 2 I would never play 4 again.

This retail is so bad in the sims 4 for 2 reasons:
    1. This feature came off as an afterthought for get to work. The focus was on active careers and not enough work was put into the retail system.
    2. The sims team don’t bother fixing the game! Almost all content they release, they don’t maintain the bugs from it. That simulation lag you mention, it’s been in the game for years! Retail, restaurant, so much more stuff are barely playable because they don’t bother fixing stuff. Just releasing new meaningless content and once it’s not working too bad you’re stuck with it.

The other thing I liked about Sims 2 clothing is the fact that if you don't own the outfit, you can't wear it. Sims 4 you can change your outfit anytime anywhere with few restrictions. Whats the point of a clothing store then? When they released that in Sims 4 it was so redundant.

yes! In the Sims 2 they would only ever wear clothes they own and if you wanted more outfits you had to buy them! Its super annoying in the Sims 4 that any sim can wear anything. Like I'll have a sim that I want to be super girly and always wear pink but you see them walking around town in anything but. You want a sim to be goth? nah you load into their lot and their wearing a red top, yellow skirt and purple socks . They have no style!

That didn't bother me at first but after I made a homeless sim who only had the clothes she was wearing and nothing else. Now I'm at loss what to do when she gets more money to afford to have better clothes. I'll probably just delete some money when I give her new clothes so I can simulate her struggles more. It would have been fun to go to the store to buy new clothes like in TS2... Even if you are lazy and don't want to go to store to buy new clothes we could have online stores where sims could just order them at home. And of course you could use cheats to go to CAS and edit your sims there when your children grow up so it won't be such a hassle everytime. So it's not like it would be impossible to have both in the game!

The buying simulation (or lack thereof) wouldn't bother me. I specifically installed a mod in the sims 2 to stop purchases appearing in Sim inventories, because I would just be able to sell them, essentially giving the household free money. Of course there are many ways to fix that.
But the Sims just bunching up in one place and not acting like real customers sure would steal any enjoyment for me. Do they even test their own packs?! @@PleasantSims they definetely couldn't use the same ofb system as sims 2 because sims 4 has different lot system. Sims 2 base game has two types of lot residential and community. So you don't own store or a restaraunt, you own a community lot. Roles of the stuff and the customers are tied to the objects on the lot. Sims 3 and sims 4 shifted from this by making specialised community lots like "gym", "lybrary", "park", "night club", "cemetery" etc. And I think this is why sims 3 didn't tried to do a business expansion pack. Because since sims 3 every community lot has a type so every business lot has to be a type of business. They can't give us a customisable sims 2 style business anymore. They can only introduce new types of businesses, like hotels in sims 3 and restaraunts in sims 4. Which would be totally fine if they would have done better jobs with the retail stores. Restaraunts and vets are nice. You have customer ratings, reviews, you have to train your employes, perks are specific to that type of business, further customisation. So when I want to play business in sims 4 I open a restataunt, they are clother to ofb.

L LOVED that because it's something you see in real life; family-owned businesses that are apart of their home. The businesses you could have could range SO much. People actually had the stuff in their inventory. You could hire your family to work in your store. And set jobs for each person to do. Like, it ran like an actual store. Some people didn't like when sims would get angry and leave, but it's realistic; if you're at a store and you've waited 20+ minutes to check out, you'd probably leave, too, lol. Not to mention the levels to your store, which gave you like a mini-game within the game. It was just such good gameplay. The Sims 2 OFB is what I expected The Sims 4 Get to Work to be, partially. I knew the active jobs were going to be a part of it, but when I saw retail was a thing, I figured "oh so it's gonna be OFB again, sweet" and then that went to "um... what is this?" Sure, the tablet is more modern, so I could see that (though that's not a thing irl so it really makes no sense), but other than that, running a store in Sims 4 is boring and I hate having no control over my employees. Being able to give them specific tasks makes perfect sense. I guess you could argue that the fixed roles are a thing, but so often they just do what they want. I don't know, it just doesn't feel the same. It's always the same with the new stuff in Sims 4: "Oh, this is cool... let's try it" *plays for a few hours* "...bored now."

Well, I will say that some stores, very few, have tablets. The main ones I can think of are the Apple Store and the Comcast store in my area... one of the Walmarts used to have someone who would walk through the long lines and ring people up with a tablet, but it stopped earlier this year, because of covid.. Other than that, I've never seen them in any store because, even if it's modern, it would take way too long for a few people to come up to everyone with their tablet. They'd have to hire a BUNCH of people for it to work well. And as I mentioned before, with covid, that close interaction to so many people would probably be discouraged.

    • @LadyTsuki
      @LadyTsuki 3 роки тому

@@BooDotBoo Oh ok, so it does exist. And yeah, it's obvious they'd put such close interaction on hold. But yeah, it'd be unrealistic and far more difficult for any store bigger than having 3-4 customers at once, which is truly a case in Sims 4. It's probably why you're more likely to make the waiting customers angry. So I think I'll stick with my "unnecessary corner cutting" thought on how the process works. Though I'd think programming the tablet would have been harder than just having the cash register do everything. Then again, I'm no programmer.

I had accidentally spent their entire money on toys and they didnt even have kids sometimes 😅 but after you explained how you play i definitely can see the apeal. Id love the option to turn purchases on and off in the settings.
Watching your videos made me realize how much i miss TS2. I got TS3 bc after 16 years i felt i deserved an upgrade and i really like build and buy mode, cas and the traits system but some things were just better in TS2. I still dont understand why im paying my fridge to cook food. Or why my dresser has all outfits in the world. Its a game, yes, but its still a life simulation and i miss sending my newly aged up teen to a community lot to get a new outfit.

To me Sims 2 just felt like one of the most engaging Sims game of them all. The constant random events and severe consequences make sure I'm never bored with it. Though there are ways to break the game like having the elixer of life can easily allow you to have immortal sims.

I hate that there's so much stuff to do in the game, but no motivation for the sims to do any of it. They don't have wishes to level up skills or perform skill actions. They don't have wishes towards specific sims. They don't have whims related to specific careers even! It feels like everyone has depression because they are so lacking in motivation. The only way to simulate internal motivation is to change aspirations. However there's only about four of those and hardly any of them correlate to careers or to skills. So I'm working on custom aspirations based on the TS3 base game aspirations, just going through each job and combination of skills trying to figure out how to structure it... TS4 feels like playing with dolls. TS2 and 3 feel like you're guiding a family or a world. I told my husband the other day that I know that TS4 is a sandbox game, but I didn't know I'd have to make my own shovel.

But they totally do have skill related and specific sim related whims, what are you talking about? The writer sim I played today constantly had whims to level up writing skill, start a new book, finish a book, publish a book. He also managed to chose a girlfriend all by himself, he had all the whims to flirt with that girl, talk to her, kiss her, go steady with her. I kinda tried to pair him with someone else, but nope, he rolled his whims for that particular girl, so ok, I let my sims get what their want. He also whanted to have a job and earn the promotions. If your sims never roll whims like that, it's a bug.

I always preferred TS3 rather than TS2 or TS4 because the neighborhood felt more alive, but lately I've been realizing TS2 is just as lively if not more, just without the open world and simultaneous aging which also have been less of a deal breaker for me. OFB is my favorite of all the expansion packs and I used to not even play it because I thought I didn't care about businesses. My favorite way to use the ticket machine is to plop it on a home business lot with a couple of hot tubs (the free aspiration reward ones even), a small restroom, and a grill, and lock the doors to the house for privacy. People will stay on the lot for days. Especially great for popularity sims because new friends just come to them.

What i loved the most in sims OFB, is that you could make different approaches to sale something, like risky sales where you could make a sim buy something instantly but risked being considered too intrusive and rejected. I remember having one guy in my legacy family, Christian, one of my favorites, he was very ugly but incredibly talented as a salesman, he never failed risky sales even when he should. I enjoyed having a family business in sims 2 and had it for generations. Running a buisiness in sims 4 is just so simplified, so dull. I tried it only once, i ran a retail store for an hour, and then i sold it, and never ever did it again.

As someone from a bakery family, I remember I got so excited that it looked like you could make a cafe or bakery in Get To Work trailer where the customers buys pastry and sit down to eat. It had many cafe and bakery-related objects so I spent hours to build a large bakery at home. But then when I was done, I couldn't have a business at home like in Sims 2 so I saved by bakery and replace it on another lot and spend more hours to build a separate building around my bakery and fill the large empty space at my home. Then when I open the bakery, I got even more confused and frustratedly disappointed when the customers just buys one pastry and leaves.
I REALY wish there was a bakery mod for this.

I agree that in the Sims 2, it feels complete with so many possibilities. It could be much better in the Sims 4, it's not as immersive and enjoyable and is quite limited. It feels as if only the minimum was done as a part of the Get to Work EP.

You can use the community lot time mod to fix this. Works great as long as you don't send your pregnant Sims out while they're pregnant. I've had issues with that.
The mod enables the passing of time on community lots to be spent on the home lot. When a Sim leaves a community lot at 5:00 PM, it will be 5:00 PM when they get back home, but you’ll still be able to play the family left behind in the meantime. SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS MY PAIN! I find that many sims players don't seem to care that much about retail or lack there of BUT I DO, I DO SO MUCH. I'm glad to finally see someone talking about this, the fact that the shopping in Sims 4 is entirely fake and for show, and that nothing a sim buys actually ends up in their inventory completely ruins the immersion! As you said, 'it's a simulation of a simulation.'
Also, does a sim actually wear an outfit they buy from a store in Sims 4? I know you see them try it on, but does it actually change their displayed outfit? That was something I adored in sims 2, the clothing was an actual inventory item, you kept an inventory of clothing in your sim's dresser, and could actually put together outfits from it.

Sims 2's business system was honestly so good, it functioned flawlessly! Was one of the most addicted things about Sims 2. I loved Open For Business was probably my favorite EP, but honestly I didn't purchase a single pack for Sims 2 that I didn't love, I loved them all and every single one was worth the money, and was money well spent. I honestly feel like future games after Sims 2 were downgrading, because so much functionality and features missing. Pretty sad that a 2004-2009 game still has more features then a 2014-2022 game. So sad....
Sims 4 I do love the Create a sim though and it's build mode, I think the build and cas are the best of all the sims games.
Sims 2 was the most realistic, had so many interactions and emotions. Gameplay was crazy, chaotic, wild and fun! AI was better, autonomy was great, you didn't have to make them do everything they freaken were alive! In future Sims games the AI become dumber and less advanced...yet it's advertised as better. In SIms 2 when needs are low they will take care of their selves, when a baby cries they automatically take care of it, feed it a bottle, change diaper, bathe it.
I know people like Sims 3 so much because of the open world, which was cool. It's gameplay was good, but the Sims were so ugly in my opinion....
But so many Sims 2 features were gone in Sims 3, and same with Sims 4... some new additions like the CAS and Build are great with Sims 4... but each game after 2 felt like we were losing more features than gaining them. Sims don't have animations anymore when cooking, they used to open cabinets, so many small details.
My dream Sims game would be a new Sims 2 basically with 4's CAS and Build and some of 1 and 3's gameplay features. Sims 2 animations, gameplay mechanics... more realistic like Sims 2, but with CC Cartoony could be an option, so much! Sims 2 was also the last game made by the original Sims creator before EA took over Maxis fully. It's why future games don't have as much depth or feel as wholesome.

I stopped playing the Sims 4 about a month ago because of the Sims just standing around for so long! It takes so long to get them to do anything. Also, whenever I would cancel an interaction my Sim would still continue to do said action. For example, if I told my sim to go to the third floor of a building, but then changed my mind and wanted them to go to the bathroom on the first floor that they're already on, my Sim would still walk all the way up to the third floor and then the interaction would cancel and they would then walk all the way back to the first floor. It's so frustrating. And the time they take between finishing an interaction is ridiculous. It shouldn't take a Sim an hour to put a load of laundry in the washer. Thanks for these videos Cindy, they're really good!

    • @BooDotBoo
      @BooDotBoo 3 роки тому

Right? I've seen quite a few people complaining about this same thing (can EA not fix this???). I'll have a sim literally standing around for sim HOURS before they do anything. I once had a sim fix their bed and they just stood there, they didn't go to work, didn't go to the bathroom, they just stood there; I had to close that save to get the sim to move again. Like, what are they doing? Or when they do the autonomous getting water, and I can't ever seem to cancel that action, so I have to just wait until it's done and it takes forever.. AND they leave cups everywhere. Eating also takes far too long in Sims 4. When I went back to Sims 3, I was shocked at how fast the sims ate, even if they were eating with other people. Showers take forever. I have to have a sim get up almost 4+ sim hours to actually be ready for work. All of that waiting and wasted time bothered me SO much.

@@BooDotBoo I know, I've had all those things happen to me too. I went back to the Sims 3 also and it's crazy, the Sims do exactly what you tell them to do. They don't stand around for hours doing nothing and if you want to cancel something they immediately stop. Unless they do some major fixes, which I doubt, then I'm not going back any time soon. It's just too frustrating sitting there waiting for them to stop/start/finish doing something.
