I have lost a total of 150lbs now ( only 50 lbs until I reach my goals.) what I inform people to do is eat real food, use plant based oils, eat a lot of vegetables , lean meats , and good cabonhydrates. It is really significant to write down the meals that have been eaten, and please invest in herbs !!!
omg, I turned 30 last year, and the changes my body has been through in the last year have been INSANE! It's like I hit puberty all over again! Hormones are a powerful drug! I went from straight boy body to curvy woman body in like 3 months! My birthday is May 25th I'll be 31, and I feel like even though I've changed a lot (mentally and physically) over the past year, being in my 30's is magical ✨ I literally give no f* about what anybody think about me anyone more. #blackgirlmagic

NimbleNetra I just turned 35 and although yes our bodies are surely aging but I've never felt better - I take so much better care of myself I workout regularly watch my portions and don't allow people to run me.. I was miserable in the majority of my 20s no energy, grad school stress, stupid marriage stress (divorced now yay!), didn't know what the inside of a gym looked like and was def a people pleaser. Sometimes getting older and wiser gives us a better perspective on what self care means

DreLux TV amen sista the struggle is unbelievably real in your 50's, I'm 52! But like you said it's good that she is doing this now so it becomes a lifestyle. I'm at my heaviest weight in my life, I'm used to the 140's and 150's but now I'm topping the 170's and I'm active but a lot has to do with what I eat which is why I was so happy to see this video and will try to incorporate some of these foods.
Eccentric Diva, you know it, the struggle is real girl. There will be ups and downs but as long as we learn from each other we can keep moving forward! Incorporate some of Maya's tips and you will be very successful. Also, as we age, we will most likely have to change our habits again, but that's part of the journey.
Nesia, girl, I used to eat Snickers and Coke for breakfast... I have done that in 25 years! My diet has changes as I've aged. Maintaining or losing weight is 90% intake, aka Food. The good thing, is recognizing that a change is needed and then changing. Good Luck girl, I'm here with ya
I'm 29 and started getting chubby aged 11. I've never been a twenty-something who could eat what I want. Two things have stuck with me since I started taking a healthy lifestyle seriously and that is that you can never out train a bad diet. Prioritise nutrition over everything. Also, strength training is the way forward for building muscle, improving your metabolism, increasing bone density and improving your joints. Someone once told me that once you reach menopause, you're gonna wish you started strength training years ago. That was enough to make me start aged 23! 💪🏼
Always a blessing to have an amazing UA-camr post! I recently start my own body journey. I've always been active, I do dance, volleyball, track, swimming, water polo, jiujitsu, and gymnastics. But, I started workout outside of sports. I have abs now and noticed a huge difference in my shoulders. Thx for motivating me some more! Luv U gurl😘
Once I moved away from home where my dad cooked really healthy at 24 and I became less active, my body changed completely! Not that I gained a WHOLE lot of weight but I went up 2 sizes in jeans since and I have a tummy pooch now. I have been preparing myself to work out and eat healthier. Next week I have decided to work out 5 days a week on my lunch break at work and eat lunch at my desk instead. For my schedule its literally the only time I have to work it in but I believe the sacrifice will be well worth it! Thanks for the advice Maya!

eating what I want and not exercising took a toll on me about 3 years ago...And I'm just 25 now! so you're lucky you got to go through your 20s without any real effect. unfortunately I let myself go and gained 50 pounds. Now I'm ready to make a permanant lifestyle change. thank you Maya for helping young women like me!
Maya, you should totally read the book 'How Not To Die by Dr Michael Greger.' He talks about the latest in evidence based nutrition and in particular his 'daily dozen.' Literally changed the way I look at food, PLUS it healed my body (healed my acne & digestive issues, lost weight, develop a healthier relationship with food, brighten my eye colour, increase energy levels and helped me to love who I am . Have a playlist for it over on my channel. xx
Melanie Kate Love The audiobook was sooo long but so worth it lol basically lots of veggies & anti-inflammatory spices/herbs. And no sugar & dairy.... that's what I remember from it.
I love that app. The fact that you can scan the barcode of any product and it logs the nutrient info...amazing! It makes keeping track of what you eat so easy.
I love your videos. They are always on target.... no rambling... just straight to the point. Informative + entertaining. One thing that I've learned about working out is... walking! Like Nike... just do it. If you don't feel like doing anything hard in the gym... if you're lacking motivation... just walk for an hour. While you are walking... Call a homie, FaceTime your mom... whatever.... just move and then you'll be surprised at how your body will change. I used to just give up on exercise when I was injured or just didn't feel like doing anything... those injuries and uninspired moods can last for months... but if I just walk... I won't gain any weight.
Everybody is not extremely eating healthy to the t it's called not dieting eat what you want in a small portions and moderately who want to eat sticks and berries for the rest of their life I would gorge though because that's bad but eating good for your body needs to be key

I eat all things natural and organic. Mostly vegetarian. I like to eat vegetables and worry about measuring and portions. I do morning shakes similar if not identical to yours... with the exception of protein powder. I am so behind on the protein powder thing, although everyone else does it. What does it do and how does it promote weight loss? I imagine it just helps calories to burn faster? Thanks for these videos! Love your healthy videos, so inspiring!

Turning 30 was a breeze for me, still had abs and my waist was snatched even after 2 kids... but turning 41???!! Things done changed!! I actually have to pay attention now :( I still make it pop, but it's effort now! Dang!
I was told by a trainer not to eat carbs/limit them in the morning as your body is breaking a fast. Instead she said to eat them after my work out when my body is going to burn them off quicker.

Hey girl great video! I lost 30 lbs about 4 years ago after trying SO many types of diets!! I had a HUGE sweet tooth so that was the hardest part about losing weight. When I started to add healthy fats to my diet ie avocados, nuts, seeds and more fiber rich foods it help to reduce my cravings significantly. I've also been able to main my weight loss which has been great! It's important to lose weight in a practical way so that you can sustain it after you lose it. This is why I'm so passionate about spreading the word. Thanks for your awesome videos + great tips!!
I really enjoyed this video. I hear you when you say that you just can't eat the way you used to in your twenties. I also learned that the hard way. I started changing the way I eat and what I eat and it truly does make a difference especially in my energy levels! Now about dem Abs girl, you are killing it!!!! :) you look fabulous! keep it up.

Awesome video. For years I've pretty much been eating whatever I want, but since for a year now since I've been at a private university I started eating more vegetables and fruits. I've been the same weight since high school so I've been able to maintain it. Snacks in between helped me a lot. Drinking more water and less juice I've seen a huge difference. My waist has pretty much stayed slim for the past 3 years.

Girl! You are so amazing and I need to say that I love you and your work so much! I'm 18 years old and I'm finally starting to love who I am even if I don't exactly love the way I look. When I was back in high school, my cross training group started this 21 grams of sugar a day diet, and I know now looking back on it, it was maybe not the best thing for them to be getting us to do. You are so right about the way you eat being a lifestyle and starting things slowly, because I remember how we just cut all unnatural, fiberless, refined sugar out of our diets at the snap of our coaches fingers, and I see now how unhealthy it was for us, especially as these vulnerable, highly athletic teenagers. I think if you don't start slow and steady, rather than taking control of your eating habits and treating them as a lifestyle, your food can take control of you and it becomes more of an obsession. Anyway, just thought I'd share that. love you so much! xx

dip in eggs (or vegan egg substitute), dip in flour mixed with bbq seasoning, fry, if desired repeat steps and fry again, then slather on bbq sauce and enjoy. i've done it before and let my family try some and they all really liked it
i think i used a seasoning mix made for grilling but it's really whatever you want to use. look for steak seasoning mixes at foodmaxx or target. tofu is basically a sponge, it will soak up the flavor of whatever you cook it with i recommend buying 'firm' tofu (soft is more for soup) and drain/squeeze any excess liquid out to soak up as much flavor as possible

This is great information because in January I gave up sugar for 100 days and I lost no weight but if I look at it again from what I want for my body I will look at a challenge that has more of an impact. I like to tone my body more and reduce thighs and hips. This has been really inspirational.
Lots of new and helpful info here! Interesting observation about the way your body used to lose fat when in "starvation" mode. Also the tip in halving the banana is great. Sometimes in the morning I'm so hungry that I forget fruit is not filling, but full of sugar. I add flaxseed or pumpkin seeds to my smoothies now to feel full. I also find my stomach flattens out with grassfed foods (beef, dairy) vs. regular corn/soy fed beef/dairy. My tip would be to definitely focus on food/portions more than exercise since some ppl can't workout daily. Find other ways to be active that you enjoy in addition to the gym like dance classes or a stand-up desk. When I do that, then killing it in the gym becomes less important and I have more fun working out.
Half a banana?!! Fruit sugar and plant based carbs are simple sugars and carbs and are broken down more easily than processed sugars and complex carbs. Don't be afraid to eat more of them! Check out freeleethebanana girl or Fullyrawkristina, she just hit thirty too. they eat TONS of fruit and have rockin bods. Just my two cents lol. Looking good Maya!

OH. GOD. NO. Lol. That lifestyle really doesn't work for most people. Not every diet (way of eating, not a "diet") works for others. There's been so many people who have GAINED weight following her. She has a very active lifestyle, but not everyone is like that. Sugar makes you fat. Sugar isn't BAD, but all those unnecessary sugars aren't gonna help tbh. Freelee is just really problematic for MANY reasons, but as a claimed "Dietitian" you'd think she'd know that different body types intake their calories different, digest food different, burn fat differently, etc. I'm just saying. It could be dangerous.
I'm trying to change my current diet (which I've had for most of my life) of junk, unhealthy, garbage food to a healthy, controllable and easy diet that I can maintain. Your plan sounds easy enough And I'm definitely going to be subscribing to you!

I do a lot of different combos with egg whites for breakfast, usually egg whites,avocado, pepper jack cheese on whole wheat bread, another one of my favorite is egg whites with some cubed chicken and veggies. I love doing the stir fry style veggies for lunch or dinner usually with summer sausage .

Oh boy!! The big 3-0 for me wasn't too bad since I've been working out A LONG TIME but, there are definitely some unexpected changes that come. I just made 31 a few days ago and I am determined to hang on to my youth lol. Keep it up! Maintenance is the key.

So glad I found this video. I am in the same position. I used to be able to eat anything I wanted and not gain weight. When you get in your thirties it is no joke. I have a belly that has appeared out of nowhere. Luckily I realized it soon enough and we are currently in negotiations.

I used to just give up on exercise when I was injured or just didn't feel like doing anything... those injuries and uninspired moods can last for months... but if I just walk... I won't gain any weight.

I eat all things natural and organic. Mostly vegetarian. I like to eat vegetables and worry about measuring and portions. I do morning shakes similar if not identical to yours... with the exception of protein powder. I am so behind on the protein powder thing, although everyone else does it. What does it do and how does it promote weight loss? I imagine it just helps calories to burn faster? Thanks for these videos! Love your healthy videos, so inspiring!

I was told by a trainer not to eat carbs/limit them in the morning as your body is breaking a fast. Instead she said to eat them after my work out when my body is going to burn them off quicker.

Hey girl great video! I lost 30 lbs about 4 years ago after trying SO many types of diets!! I had a HUGE sweet tooth so that was the hardest part about losing weight. When I started to add healthy fats to my diet ie avocados, nuts, seeds and more fiber rich foods it help to reduce my cravings significantly. I've also been able to main my weight loss which has been great! It's important to lose weight in a practical way so that you can sustain it after you lose it. This is why I'm so passionate about spreading the word. Thanks for your awesome videos + great tips!!

I really enjoyed this video. I hear you when you say that you just can't eat the way you used to in your twenties. I also learned that the hard way. Awesome video. For years I've pretty much been eating whatever I want, but since for a year now since I've been at a private university I started eating more vegetables and fruits. I've been the same weight since high school so I've been able to maintain it. Snacks in between helped me a lot. Drinking more water and less juice I've seen a huge difference. My waist has pretty much stayed slim for the past 3 years.

I'm 18 years old and I'm finally starting to love who I am even if I don't exactly love the way I look. When I was back in high school, my cross training group started this 21 grams of sugar a day diet, and I know now looking back on it, it was maybe not the best thing for them to be getting us to do. You are so right about the way you eat being a lifestyle and starting things slowly, because I remember how we just cut all unnatural, fiberless, refined sugar out of our diets at the snap of our coaches fingers, and I see now how unhealthy it was for us, especially as these vulnerable, highly athletic teenagers. I think if you don't start slow and steady, rather than taking control of your eating habits and treating them as a lifestyle, your food can take control of you and it becomes more of an obsession.

dip in eggs (or vegan egg substitute), dip in flour mixed with bbq seasoning, fry, if desired repeat steps and fry again, then slather on bbq sauce and enjoy. i've done it before and let my family try some and they all really liked it

i think i used a seasoning mix made for grilling but it's really whatever you want to use. look for steak seasoning mixes at foodmaxx or target. tofu is basically a sponge, it will soak up the flavor of whatever you cook it with i recommend buying 'firm' tofu (soft is more for soup) and drain/squeeze any excess liquid out to soak up as much flavor as possible

This is great information because in January I gave up sugar for 100 days and I lost no weight but if I look at it again from what I want for my body I will look at a challenge that has more of an impact. I like to tone my body more and reduce thighs and hips. This has been really inspirational.

Lots of new and helpful info here! Interesting observation about the way your body used to lose fat when in "starvation" mode. Also the tip in halving the banana is great. Sometimes in the morning I'm so hungry that I forget fruit is not filling, but full of sugar. I add flaxseed or pumpkin seeds to my smoothies now to feel full. I also find my stomach flattens out with grassfed foods (beef, dairy) vs. regular corn/soy fed beef/dairy. My tip would be to definitely focus on food/portions more than exercise since some ppl can't workout daily. Find other ways to be active that you enjoy in addition to the gym like dance classes or a stand-up desk. When I do that, then killing it in the gym becomes less important and I have more fun working out.
Half a banana?!! Fruit sugar and plant based carbs are simple sugars and carbs and are broken down more easily than processed sugars and complex carbs. Don't be afraid to eat more of them! Check out freeleethebanana girl or Fullyrawkristina, she just hit thirty too. they eat TONS of fruit and have rockin bods. Just my two cents lol. Looking good Maya!

OH. GOD. NO. Lol. That lifestyle really doesn't work for most people. Not every diet (way of eating, not a "diet") works for others. There's been so many people who have GAINED weight following her. She has a very active lifestyle, but not everyone is like that. Sugar makes you fat. Sugar isn't BAD, but all those unnecessary sugars aren't gonna help tbh. Freelee is just really problematic for MANY reasons, but as a claimed "Dietitian" you'd think she'd know that different body types intake their calories different, digest food different, burn fat differently, etc. I'm just saying. It could be dangerous.
I'm trying to change my current diet (which I've had for most of my life) of junk, unhealthy, garbage food to a healthy, controllable and easy diet that I can maintain. Your plan sounds easy enough

I do a lot of different combos with egg whites for breakfast, usually egg whites,avocado, pepper jack cheese on whole wheat bread, another one of my favorite is egg whites with some cubed chicken and veggies. I love doing the stir fry style veggies for lunch or dinner usually with summer sausage .

Oh boy!! The big 3-0 for me wasn't too bad since I've been working out A LONG TIME but, there are definitely some unexpected changes that come. I just made 31 a few days ago and I am determined to hang on to my youth lol. Keep it up! Maintenance is the key.

So glad I found this video. I am in the same position. I used to be able to eat anything I wanted and not gain weight. When you get in your thirties it is no joke. I have a belly that has appeared out of nowhere. Luckily I realized it soon enough and we are currently in negotiations.
